Rise of the Phoenix

would be my suggestion.

Phoenixes are a symbol of hope and rebirth, as each days sun rises so to does the phoenix bringing warmth of light.

They can also be incredibly destructive and merciless if angered and while LLD in my experience hasn't even come close to the reputation I picked up, it's no lie that she is firey and can certainly dominate a scene, just as a molten firey bird would.

The rising part referring to that generally anger and rage are considered to be low emotional states and as she's moved beyond that, could be said she has risen.

Imo, this seems like a pretty clear winner at least to me, personally, but just in case:

OK actually I guess I could explain this. So she tried making a thread for studying for medical school, but a GD mod locked it with the reasoning "No." Then SleepyKrew made the "as performance art we watch lalaladucks study" thread in the Speakeasy and for some reason that was allowed, and we've been watching her study for like five years because yikes lots of school. Also ducks is someone that a lot of people want to be buddies with and that's why she has a very long GTKAS thread and does well in SUPP and all that. And yes there are a lot of directions you can go in for a ducks title, but almost all of them are better than "Best Newcrummer"

Would love to have more thoughts on this one, too!

- intending to evoke the artistic sense of the word "study", i.e. like some piece/installation intended to provoke ideas about a certain performance medium. in particular "a study in thread" just sounds like something you would name one of those. there's of course the basic play on words which is that she Studied in a Thread (which was labeled as performance art, lol. and also it was performance art). but also just the way that lalaladucks threads (or rather threads marked by her participation bc i dont think she actually really makes threads) naturally become a fun and participatory thing which becomes elevated in an arty sort of way, e.g. the gtkas thread or supp threads (didn't she invent the avatar bet ???)

Okay I really like this. (I kinda sorta prefer it with the A, because "a study in x" is a phrase I know is a thing, a la the Sherlock Holmes story, but I'm fine with either version)

Okay so time for the big announcement:
I know it is perhaps naive of me, so I could be quickly proven wrong, but I believe this community has matured to a point where some policies put in place expecting immaturity have become largely obsolete. The site has become a much safer, better place to be. Most of the bad apples have been banned, and there's a lot less of the

really

bad stuff that an idea like this would likely have sparked in times past.

I have faith that this community, mostly being reasonable adults (or people with the maturity of one), are capable of handling things with civility, restraint, and respect, in ways they couldn't have five years ago. The site has changed, the people have changed, and things are a lot more chill/laid-back now and less serious.

Paired with the longterm inactivity in this thread, I'm going to try and put that trust into practice by implementing three changes, with the hope that these can reinvigorate the title fairy forum. (Please don't prove this to be a mistake. I

know

a move like this would've been a mistake circa five years ago. It would've gotten outright NASTY. I'm placing my belief in us having evolved as a community to where what would've been a mistake five years ago, isn't still a mistake now. For the love of god please don't demonstrate I was a fool for thinking we have improved.)

Let's start with the first:

I am officially softening my rule on scummers giving too much feedback/input on their own titles.

This was already unofficially in effect, as seen in spots like here, as well as here, and going even further back.

I believe the rule still has

purpose

:

scummers are still not allowed to micromanage the discussion of their title nomination(s)

. They do not get to dictate every aspect of the discussion. They don't get to post five times per page trying to influence the title.

Titles are still

(mostly)

decided by the community,

not

the scummer the title is for

; scummers shouldn't be actively designing their title. (At least...not in here. Getting to that.)

The rule thus will remain in place, because it's not fully obsolete. However, I am making my "enforce only when absolutely needed" aspect of it more clear, in that scummers are free to give feedback akin to the type in the linked posts (and the surrounding material). Scummers have the right to say a title nomination makes them uncomfortable, that they hate it, that they won't accept anything along the lines of it, etc. If there is enough discussion for a title to be at or near the mark needed for approval, a scummer is allowed to weigh in on a nomination for them and say they like it, even give feedback for formatting or maybe improving it. However, this is a gray zone so let me basically sum it up:
Don't be overbearing.

If you're being obnoxious, if you're borderline harassing those involved in the process, if you're actively beating down every idea actively, you're probably overstepping the boundaries and entering into "giving too much feedback/input".

But one-time casual feedback of "oh hey I like this!" is fine.


The second/third:

I am starting two threads as an experiment.

Unlike events of the past, these threads have no set expiration date. They are not a temporary thing--well, if nothing goes wrong and the community doesn't object strongly, at least.

They will remain open for as long as I see fit to keep them open.

And I will see it fit to keep them open indefinitely, unless I am given reason to shut them down.

I can and will shut them down if they end up not panning out. If drama is kicked up, if the threads get too out of control, if the community strongly hates the idea, if the community strongly objects, if people can't have the maturity that I am trusting them to have, the thread(s) get locked. You only get nice things if you show you are capable of handling them respectfully and thoughtfully. Prove me wrong and I WILL shut them down, likely permanently.

The two threads:

I am making a thread to allow for scummers to self-advocate for a title.

The purpose of that thread is, specifically, for a scummer to make a solid argument for a title for themselves. It is for self-nominations

only

. And scummers only get one. It is not meant to replace this title fairy thread. It is simply to allow for scummers to make a compelling case for titling themselves, if they truly feel a specific title would be a good fit for them.

I am making a thread to allow for scummers to ask other scummers to brainstorm title ideas for that scummer.

The purpose of that thread is, specifically,

Nominate DeasVail for Exuberant Exile

In Survivor South Bend (most recent survivor meet), one of the twists was having two rounds where a player is exiled and thus temporarily not part of a tribe. DV managed to get himself exiled both times and embraced it with funny photos. The first time was due to him winning the first challenge, so it was something he earned. It's a unique achievement to get exiled multiple times in a game. It's not even that common in general to have 1 exile opportunity on a game. Going 2 for 2 on getting exiled in a 17 player game was funny and unexpected.

Exuberant is not just there for the alliteration. DV is someone who spreads positivity to those around him and has demonstrated this as GTKAS mod and by having a thread where he complimented community members. He is gracious to the mods of games and events he participates in.

Nominate DeasVail for Silver Medalist

DV holds the most runner-up titles for Survivor games on our site (4). It's an achievement to outlast most of your competitors and represents that DV has made it far and overcame a lot through these games. Losing at the finals can be taxing and discouraging because it involves you needing to defend and make a case for your gameplay being most deserving. My intention with the wording of the title was to frame it as more of a body of work achievement rather than something more like "always a bridesmaid." IMO that is more respectful. Having been runner up multiple times does also influence his strategy in more recent games on the forum or online.

So according to OP, five users supporting a title is the "usual requirement", and Normal Scientist has four supporters by my count, so is it just not going to happen until an additional person supports it or how does it work?

Loosely speaking, the requirement is actually just a, "okay does this seem like it has enough support?", but since that's largely subjective, a more objective number is five.

I can require less or more situationally. In this case, I felt there wasn’t a strong enough consensus for it, so I need more talk there.

Yes, it’s a username thing.
Drew has derailed quite a few games I’ve been in with discussions of various whiskeys with absolutely no help or prompting from me, regardless of what anyone might tell you. He frequently brings up the whiskey pocket and leans into it as a gameplay tool and a reaction test launchpad. Also, trusting him to solve your medical problems is dangerous.

The idea has merit, but I'm not fond of the doctor part just for the doctor part. Yes, I know Doctor Drew is actually a doctor of some kind, but I don't like it as a title.

Explanation: In my experience with Enchant there is one thing that is consistent with him. You cannot manipulate him to do what you want. If he is scum/town doesn't matter. You cannot convince him to do something he doesn't already want to do. This feeling i first really described in demon slayer mafia where i continually told my team that Enchant was the wild card because no matter how much we pushed in anyway, we weren't going to get enchant to vote anyone without him already wanting to vote. He would not move until he wanted to. There is no convincing him, pleading with, bargaining with, etc. He is a wild untameable animal. Which best describes a zebra.

This description might be accurate for Enchant, but I don't really see the connection to a wild Zebra for him.
