Challenge 2: Your Wheel of Fortune

{ROUND 02 TEAM CHALLENGE}

Your World of Text

You know what we all need? A good dose of nostalgia. Let's revisit early Mish Mash LSGs back when the idea of an anonymous game was a new and novel idea. Challenges were rather different then. Ready, Aim, Fire wasn't looked at in horror and disgust. Challenges were much less intricate. And that's where things like YourWorldOfText thrived. You could do all sorts of things with a YWOT challenge: scavenger hunts, ACSII art creation, cooperative challenges in realtime, and all sorts of things. We've decided to revisit for good nostalgia for some people, and a completely new experience for others. Let's dive in to see what we have in store for you!

RulesFor today's challenge, you'll be splitting up into 2 groups of 6: a group of writers and a group of finders. Since 3 of the teams only have 11 members, one player on those teams will have to be part of both groups.

When they're ready, your group of writers will be given a different YourWorldOfText URL to work with. A letter will be placed in the center of the page. Your group will have
15 minutes
to work together and place additional letters/numbers/symbols building off of that letter in any direction. All characters MUST connect (diagonal counts) in order to be part of your grid. You'll want to build as big of a letter fort as you can, because you also need to hide
6 words
within that grid. One 5-letter word, one 6-letter word, all the way up to one 10-letter word. At the bottom of this post, you'll find lists of possible words that are allowed. The words can be hidden forward or backward vertically, horizontally, or diagonally, as long as each word forms a straight line and each letter is adjacent to the previous letter. The word can consist of capital letters, lowercase letters, or a mixture. If after 15 minutes, you do not have a validly hidden word of each required length, your team will be disqualified.

Once all writer teams are finished, each group of finders can begin. When you're ready, the group will receive a random YourWorldOfText URL from one of the other teams; each YWOT will only go out to one team. The finders will need to find all 6 words as quickly as possible and send them to a moderator. You may alter the YWOT page, but be warned that if you do, you may make it impossible to find a word by overwriting part of it. It is possible that you'll find a word that wasn't intentionally placed on the page by the team of writers, but we'll have screenshots of the page when it was completed to verify if that word was there before you started - meaning you can't win by secretly adding your own words to the page. You only get one guess at each of the six words. An incorrect guess adds on 30 minutes to your time. Once the finders make a guess at all six words (they don't need to be circled or screenshotted unless you find a word that doesn't match our list), their time will be stopped.

After all the finders have gone, the times will be scored. Your team's score is equal to [the time of the team who solved your team's grid MINUS the time it took for your finders to find all 6 words]. Obviously this will result in a negative score for at least one team. The objective is to have as high of a score as possible. The team who has the highest score will be crowned the winners of this challenge, and are the only team safe from elimination.

You have
72 hours
to determine your groups and for the writers to take their turn. After that, the finders will be given
48 hours
to complete their portion. Good luck.

To make things easier, the writers and finders groups will only consist of 4 players each per team.

Alright guys... they can’t all be winners.

After some reflection, us mods have realized this is a bad challenge. Let’s count the reasons why.

1) 15 minutes to hide words is way too much time given the amount of keyboard spamming you can do in that time.
2) Multiple teams are having trouble scheduling 4 players to be on at once, which we should have helped schedule at the start!
3) There’s no way to lock down the YourWorldofText page after the 15 minutes are up so teams can continue editing secretly.
4) Word searches aren’t very fun when you don’t know what words you’re looking for.

I wrote this challenge and accept full responsibility for its failures, and I want to apologize to all the time and effort wasted. We’re going to try to move on from this and forget it ever happened by throwing in a new challenge in its place.

{ROUND 02 TEAM CHALLENGE v2.0}

Wheel of Fortune

This challenge will be played as individuals. When you’re ready to begin, fill out the below form and you’ll receive 4 categories, each with 5 words or phrases that fit in that category. However, the vowels will be removed and replaced with blanks. As fast as you can, fill in the blanks and complete the words/phrases. Once you submit the form again with your answers, your time will stop. The team with the fastest average time wins and is safe from elimination. You have
48 hours
to begin.

To begin, fill out
THIS FORM
. You can pass on ones you can't figure out, but a wrong/no answer on any clue adds 5 minutes to your time.

Outside sources are NOT allowed, as well as discussion about the challenge with other players.
