*BE-EEP* *BE-EEP*

"My God, not another one!"

"AHHHH-"

BOOM

The thunderous blast rippled through the massive lobby structure. People lay strewn about as though they were rag dolls in some morbid toy chest. Ironically this callous image wasn't far from wholly metaphorical. As though they were just some part of a madman's game, the people -- the players -- had no idea what would be next. All lines of communication were down, both within the building itself and on everyone's person. There were no cell phone signals, dial tones, internet connections, or working fire alarms. People knew where they were of course, there were too many VIPs here not to know. Hell, the building itself had security inside, outside, and all around, but that hadn't really done much good. There was no enemy, yet the enemy was all around.

*BE-EEP* *BE-EEP*...

Setup Information

Bomb Mafia will use a closed setup with semi-normal roles.

During the game, there will often times be a "bomb" on the playing field. Using Random.org, the first bomb will be given to a random player as soon as the game starts. I'll set up specific times before the game starts which will be explosion times. Any player who has a bomb in their possession when the explosion time hits will be killed. The times will be preset within the context of a game playing until the maximum allotted time (it's important to me that the players don't think this is just the Mod influencing the game, I plan to literally draw up all the explosion times before the game even begins). The players will not be told how often the bombs will go off.

All players are allowed to publicly
pass
the bomb, if it's in their possession, to any other player. Every player is given three passes each day/bomb (whichever ends first) that do not rollover to the next day/bomb. Bombs are active at night. Barring any night actions, the player who is stuck with the bomb after a day phase ends will have to hold onto it the entire night. After a lynch hits, the bomb is stuck with whoever has it. If a bomb explodes at night, it will resolve like a traditional night kill.

This is the only theme mechanic present in the game, so please ask me if you have any questions.

Game Rules

Voting
-
Votes must be in bold, clear context (
Vote: RedCoyote
/
Vote: No Lynch
). This is your power, we both want it to be counted fairly, so try to make it so there's no question who you are voting and unvoting. Unvotes are not necessary. There will be no tolerance for vote tricks, please do not try to play with any technical aspect of this rule. If challenged, I will likely rule against the player responsible for any voting confusion during the game.

Lynching
-
Once a player is lynched, the game will go into "twilight", and the fate of the town has effectively been sealed for that day phase. The town, as well as the player who has been lynched, is welcome to continue to talk until I officially bring the game into the night phase. The town
must
reach a simple majority before the deadline in order for a lynch to go through. Ties will not be broken by me, no matter which wagon formed first. If the town cannot reach a majority or break a tie before the deadline, the day phase will end without a lynch. This town has the option not to lynch, provided it meets the required simple majority of votes.

Deadlines
-
All deadlines are subject to extension should the need arise. This game is using bankable deadlines. All unused days (rounding off to the nearest day) will be "banked" for the following day phase. The Day 1 deadline is set for 21 days, Day 2 is set for 14 days, Day 3 is set for 12 days, and all following days will be set at 9 days (before adding any banked time). Every day phase may be extended once either by means of a simple majority of players or by my discretion. By contrast, every night phase has a firm 72 hour, or three day, deadline.

Absence, Prods, and Replacements
-
If you are unable to post for a period of longer than 72 hours, please inform me by PM or make it clear in the game thread. All players have a right to know whether or not a player is absent, and any player who informs me of a future absence will be noted as such. Prods will take place at the request of the players in the game as well as at my discretion. If a player receives a prod, they have exactly 24 hours from the time of that prod to show activity before a request for a replacement will be made. At that point, whomever claims the player slot will become the person playing the game.

Night Actions
-
I will accept any and all actions submitted to me pre-night phase, but be forewarned, once a decision is made it cannot be undone except under specific circumstances (e.g. replacements or Moderator kills). If no night action is submitted to me before the end of the night phase, the player is assumed to have slept through the night, and no action will take place. Standard night action orders are as follows: Roleblocks > Protections > Conversions > Manipulations > Shots > Investigations

Prohibitions
-
To help ensure a fair, balanced, and fun game, it is prohibited to talk to other players outside of this thread unless you are given specific instructions on how to do so. All players who have been lynched, killed, or otherwise removed from the game are prohibited from making any new posts or talking with any of the living players about the game until the game has been declared over. Respecting tradition, "Bah!" posts are expected, but you must respect the boundaries of the game. No player is allowed to post anything game related in their post-death post, so please use common sense when and if you decide to make one. It is prohibited to quote any Mod PMs for any purpose other than to claim or explain one's powers. It is prohibited to use invisible text, small text, or to otherwise edit your post in anyway. It is prohibited to use the color
red
in order to make sure there are no quarrels over what is and isn't an edit that I have made. I will only be using the color
red
in edits. Any form of trolling, misbehavior, or poor sportsmanship will not be tolerated and is hereby prohibited.

Questions and Concerns
-
Do not hesitate in asking me for assistance in understanding any aspect of this game. If anyone spots any mistakes I may have made, please send me a PM. You may expect a response within a maximum of 48 hours. If there is anything else you feel I have not covered, or have not covered adequately, please point it out to me.

Thank you
-
Thanks to bouncy.bouncy and bv310 for helping review this game. If anything happens to me, bouncy.bouncy has all of the role PMs and who they belong to, and he is the game's official back-up Moderator. Thanks to Cruciare, Vi, Hoopla, and zoraster, as I've stolen general moderation ideas from them to (hopefully) make my games more enjoyable and efficient. Thanks to everyone for signing up, and I hope everyone has a good time.

Townie PM
-
This is an example role PM that may or may not be in this game. There is at least one Townie in this game.

Role PM wrote:Welcome to Bomb Mafia.

You are Madison Crawley, City Councilwoman.

A mother of two and a dedicated public servant, prior to your marriage you were a CPA for a well-known accounting firm in the Northwestern United States. Although you've always been a stickler for order, your children have completely changed your outlook on life. Prior to having them, you considered yourself a workaholic with little time devoted to an advanced social network. You met with your co-workers and some college friends on occasion, but advancing your career through careful planning and a huge workload would pay dividends further down the line.

You met your husband by chance at a convention 3 years ago. The whirlwind romance swept you off your feet into a completely different world, and you find yourself telling everyone who will listen about the wonders of child rearing and community service.

You are a
Townie
. You are sided with the town.

As a Townie, you have no specific abilities during the night. During the day, you are given one vote that you may use toward lynching a specific player, or choosing not to lynch.

You win if the town eliminates all opposing factions.

Please post a confirmation in the game thread indicating that you have received your role, understand it, and are ready to play!

Pre-Game Status
Role PMs being created, randomized, and assigned.

Role PMs going out. All players must confirm and may ask questions about their role or the game. Players with access to QTs may talk during this period. All players may discuss the game in the thread. The game will begin when I receive at least 12 out of 14 confirmations.

All confirmations are in, explosion times are set, and the game will begin.

I want it day one because I want to play outguess the mod regarding the first deadline and pass it to someone right before it goes off.

After that we force it on a suspect.

Glad to see Hoopla stayed on after all!

From my tentative musings, it seems to me like the bomb is best used as a policy lynch that we get in addition to our normal lynch. While I have no intrinsic problem with Jack's plan, I think the town as a whole should have a hand in picking the "someone" Jack will pass the bomb to.

It's not good to let people use any kind of town consensus as a crutch. I want to see each person who has the bomb making their own decision on what to do with it.

Then I would prefer to see you pass the bomb immediately, instead of cooking it before passing. We don't know if scum have any privileged information regarding the bomb times or not. The best way to diminish scum influence on the bomb is to have as many hands on it as possible. I don't particularly care if this is in the form of a vote or simply rapid passing, but I don't want one player monopolizing control of the bomb.

I agree with Hito - bomb passing could be another valuable cog in terms of analysis. Maybe not on par with vote analysis, but I wouldn't mind seeing the bomb do a couple of laps to chew up peoples' passes. I expect players running low on passes might feel pressure akin to being close to L-1.

As for the bomb cycling, may I suggest that we go in player list order, at least on Day 1?

What? No, you should pass the bomb to someone you suspect. Otherwise what is the point?

Well, if we're going to pass the bomb immediately when we get it at first and we have no information to go on, what's wrong with an order we can remember? Once we get information, then yeah, the most scummy player is the obvious answer, but if the plan is to blow our first two passes, then until someone does something scummy I don't see why we can't go in player list order.

I think a general plan of multiple laps with many hands sounds good (Jack's game of chicken with RC notwithstanding - by the way, what benefits do you see in this? Is it purely a balls of steel exercise?) Also if we keep track of who passes to who, we can potentially draw connections in who keeps bombs away from who. Not as easy but very useful in terms of drawing more complicated connections and patterns.

---

Coug: who said we're wasting the first two* passes? Whoever has the bomb should either pass it to Jack if they support his game, or hold onto it until they see something scummy.

*by first two, do you mean literally the first two passes, or the first 2/3 chances to pass that we get?

A quick sequence of bomb hot-potato is a fine substitute for the RVS - I think this will produce genuine suspects a lot quicker than normal. Btw, StrangerCoug is getting the bomb from me if it comes my way.

I have played with a similar deadline mechanic, and considered setups involving them at one point. I have an educated guess as to when the first bomb will go off, so you should give it to me and let me take a shot at vigging with it. It's worth a shot.

Other than that, having a clear standard for how to use the bomb is just handing the mafia a big note saying HERE'S WHAT TO DO TO BE INDISTINGUISHABLE FROM TOWN. People should do what their townie instincts tell them to do, and mafia can scramble to try and keep up.

It's not worth a shot. I think it's a ridiculously dumb idea as town, because you're going to have to guess the bomb explosion to (likely) within 6 hours - maybe less if you pick someone active who is just going to shovel it elsewhere. I have serious doubts to can predict to such a fine degree, and based off irrelevent mod meta, the first explosion.

I think we'll probably have one on Day 1 to generate discussion and make the game exciting - if you're town, letting it sit on you for a long time is anti-town. Trying to get people to give you the bomb is even worse, because it chews up an extra pass and increases your risk of being trapped with it.

Hoopla's right on the money here. Both that it's not worth a shot trying to being a hero and game the deadline, and that lots of early bomb movement will give us some strong information to go on.
