Roles
This game does not have an Open Setup; however, for balance reasons, here are two sample Role PMs:[/anchor]
You're
Marion Trozollo
, organizer and visionary behind the River Quay Merchants Association that is revitalizing the riverfront district. After decades of neglect, your ideas and investments have brought in craftspeople, restauranteurs, and artists in numbers that surprise even you! However it has also led to the involvement of some unscrupulous characters; mobsters and petty thugs, go-go dancers and drug users. The disorder and implicit violence of these people threatens to bring your fragile recovery crashing down around your ears. Best to use your influence and intelligence to try to make sure they go somewhere else.
Win Condition:
You win when the gangsters and major criminals are dead, convicted, or neutralized.
Powers:
Visit
(active, night): You may choose to 'visit' any named/numbered location on the map at Night if you wish, but you have no action or influence there. You may not converse with anyone at Night unless told otherwise.
You start and end most evenings at the River Quay Merchant's Association, #22 on the map.
You're
Nicholas Civillia
, Don of the Kansas City underworld. Having held control of the town's organized crime factions with a velvet-covered iron fist for more than two decades, you fear nothing and no one. While you must ultimately answer to the Chicago Outfit, they are far away and do not care to get involved in how you run your 'business' from day to day. This uppity ""River Quay Merchant Association"", however, has been stirring up trouble in the very part of Kansas City where you grew up. It may be time to knock a few heads...
Win Condition:
You win when the Town has been eliminated, or nothing can prevent that from happening.
; as such, each Night you may order the murder of one Townsperson. Select a member of your criminal organization to perform the kill, and they will do their best to see that it is done. If you die, this ability will pass to one of your lieutenants.
Investigation Immunity
(passive, night)
:
Due to your connections and influence, you will come up as Innocent to any Kansas City Police Department investigations, unless you are caught red-handed committing the Night Kill.
Tour the Neighborhood:
(active, night)
:
You may choose to have your driver transport you around the area at Night if you like; this will increase your visibility, but may not improve your efficiency at directing actions. The location you visit will know you were there, but unless you choose to use one of your other abilities, you will have no effect by showing up.
Kill Immunity
(passive, night, single-use)
:
You also have a one-shot Night Kill Immunity through the efforts of your driver/bodyguard.
Faction Allies
(special, night)
:
Individual members of your organization may also have additional skills to offer you; discuss them at Night in this QuickTopic.
Home Base:
You start and end most evenings at the Godfather Lounge, #14 on the map.
during signups to winnow the playerlist. What this means is that if you have a problem with someone who has signed up, tell me
by PM
. If four people or more people would rather not play with the same person (each marked by a ‡), that person will be removed from the playerlist, for the good of the game overall. I will wait 24 hours after the final slot fills just in case one of the last signups turns out to be a problem. Anybody who canvasses the thread for 'allies' to blacklist somebody runs the risk of getting ejected themselves. Don't do it, and don't abuse this; this is an experiment that will hopefully work better than the traditional blacklist. I will also attempt to vett the replacement list the same way, if it is needed.
In addition, you must have completed at least one large game and one theme game prior to this (they can be the same game, obviously). This game contains SEVERAL game mechanics that will not be kind to the raw newbie... no offense.

Do you have a completed (your role, not necessarily the game itself) large game and a theme game (can be the same game, of course) somewhere else? I noticed you just signed up for the site in April...

COMPLETELY away, or just limited access? It shouldn't be a big problem either way...
ReaperCharlie wrote:A couple things:
1. How can the game be on a real-life timer—as in, a day in the real world is equivalent to a day in the game—but still have 72-hour nights? If this is going to be like the first game where you'll have that "real-time" (but actually relative time) clock floated in the vote counts, then the rules are a bit misleading.
2. The link to the map is busted-ish because the thumbnail creator on the wiki isn't in working order. I dug around a bit, and here's the absolute link to the full-resolution version of the map: http://mafiascum.net/wiki/images/e/ec/Riverquaymap.png
1 - not the same timer. Basically what I mean is that 21 days will pass in the 'game world', and it'll be mid-June when the next 'night' of violence happens. The effect of this is
mostly
cosmetic.
2 - Yeah, I noticed that too. I'm going to try to get the thumbnail viewer fixed by the time roles go out, and if it doesn't, I'll link to the game-thread version of the map.

While I appreciate your enthusiasm, WOTC will continue for 24-48 hours (depending on the weekend) after signups fill. That way late entrants aren't automatically allowed in, or forbidden from 'voting'.
If, you know, that's what you're worried about.

As long as you're not completely unavailable, that should be fine. Game won't 'start' for another several days after signups technically fill.
popsofctown wrote:Do you get a pm every time someone tries to WOTCan you?
Most likely he's just reading the first post. The double-dagger symbol shows WOTC votes.

Andrius wrote:If I /in now, and play until my V/LA, can Toast sub in for me for two weeks and then I sub back in when I get back? Just going to see if you'd allow it first off.
Yes, with the understanding that springlullaby actually takes slot 27. If someone else should get removed via WOTC (unlikely) or drops the game, you will be in like Flynn.
WOTC-voting will continue until the end of Saturday: (expired on 2011-05-21 23:59:49)

I haven't read Succession Mafia. Is there anything we should know about it that carries over to this game?
Yes - I'm pretty sure I learned how to balance better on this one, Yos will be glad to hear. Other than that, it really only keeps the double-cult feature. You don't need to read the first to understand the second.
From this poll - are you using pre-stumped recruiters?
Yep. All
three
four parts ended up in the game; Tree Stumped Recruiters, White Flag Win Conditions for scum, Map-based Roles, and Smalltown profession/role split.

You mean beyond the map? That should give you some idea, but here's some of what you'll see later this weekend: Banker, Bartender, Business Owner, City Councilperson, Cook, Corrupt Cop, Exotic Dancer, Factory Worker, Dock Worker, Warehouse Supervisor, Junkie, Pharmacist, Priest, Photographer, and Teamster.

Our City Council just isn't that interesting, guys (even in the 70s)...
WOTC is complete for the 27 regular slots; I will keep players aware of who is on the replacement list, though we have a great 'stable' right now, thanks!
Roles and thread going up later today, after I finish recovering from yesterday's party...

Due to the complexity of the theme, nobody will get to replace back in unless it is for their 'original' role slot. The chances of that happening are fairly minimal...

Tanarin (Tanarin Oswald, profession: Dock Worker) has asked for replacement. I have asked those in the first post if they want to replace in, but will accept other volunteers as well. Day Three is less than half done, but the game has 87 pages so far... anyone? Wisdom of the Crowds still applies, of course.

Fritlzer is headed overseas unexpectedly and needs replacement within the next week. It just flipped Night Three - anybody up for a replacement in the next 72 hours or slightly longer?
