I used to mod a number of games on the grey labyrinth, mainly because I sucked at playing. My games were known for being whimsical and creative. (eg Far Side Mafia, where everyone was a Gary Larson cartoon).
One variant I never did, but always wanted to do was a vigilante game where everyone was a day vig. For an old timers (Mostly Retired mafia players only) game, I'm going to resurrect the dream of doing this
At the moment the rules are:
1. Every one is a one shot day vig, both town and mafia
2. If you vig someone, the day doesnt end, but carries on. If the killing reduces the number required to lynch, the number will be reduced 96 hours later, so that a vig doesnt result in an instant lynch. (Giving people time to unvote; start a new bandwagon etc)
3. If you vig a townie, you die too. (Including mafia)
4. Max number of Vig kills in a day will be ~2.
5. No other power roles, or limited to one investigative or protective role. (Undecided on this front)
Rule 3 is to stop the game being a fast bloodbath. The one vigilante game I know of ended fast, as every kill resulted in someone else killing the vigilante.
Lynching, Mafia Kills at night all occur as per normal otherwise.
I'm looking for ideas to avoid the scenarios where Vig Killing is so risky that it never happens. AND also avoiding Vig Killing being so attractive that the game finishes 40 posts in. And ideas people think will make the game both balanced and fun for the players.

A couple of other concepts then
Concept 1
Everyone has unlimited vig kills, but with the following caveats:
-Max of Successful 2 vig kills in any one day OR max of 2 attempts in any one day (in order recieved).
-Vig kills have a 50% chance of failing
-Successful Vig Kills announced at lynch.
-Players will not know if their choice failed because of the 50% rule or because two other players got in first
Concept 2
The penalty for vigging town is currently that you both die. That might reduce numbers too quickly. Instead if you kill town, 50% chance you die, 50% chance they die. If hit scum, 100% they die. Vigging is done via PM only, during the day, but announced at night/Twilight.
-Add a Jester. The Jester must be vigged. If the jester survives to the end, they win. Lynches AND Mafia kills on the player will fail. A vig attempt on the Jester has a 100% success rate.-
