Mini 738: The Town of Merrin - Game Over

Hi everyone! I'll be reading up and will post my thoughts sometime later today.

Sorry, I wasn't completely ready for the pace of this game. I have a lot more time to post on Fridays and weekends than during the week. I'll have something by Friday.

This is a very good game so far. There are a solid core of aggressive players driving detailed discussion. This has meant that the game has taken me longer than anticipated to read up on.

Here are my thoughts so far:
Mykonia and panzer come off as the scummiest players right now, and they could certainly be part of a team. Panzer attacked Mykonia early on and then tried to dismiss it as a joke, despite claiming that his vote "moved us out of the random voting phase." Here's the key points about them that I find scummy:

Panzer
*Seriously votes Mykonia and then tries to back off of it
*Started an unproductive discussion about whether to go after the sk or the mafia
*Attacked GIEFF for tunnel vision rather than dealing with the attack
*Most seriously, asked why Mykonia was scum in post 350

Mykonia (aka: the unhelpful, it burns)
I'll flesh this out soon, but mostly I was bothered by him describing what had happened rather than providing analysis. I also see signs of unhelpful opportunism

On the most likely town side:
Zilla
Asking for a summary is suspicious, but it suggests a lazy player rather than a scummy one. Since then, her posts have been aggressive and fairly detailed.

GIEFF
I'm a sucker for detailed, well-formatted posts. Solid, aggressive pro-town play on day 1.

I've read through the game, but only really analyzed the first 1/3 or so. The arguments are fairly complex and it's hard for me to deal with this game in the blocks of free time I have during the week. Once I get fully caught up, expect me to be more active.

Defending scummy play by calling yourself lazy/stupid is unhelpful. This wasn't the first time BB did so. It looks to me like scum trying to pre-empt discussion of their scummy behavior.

*Shrugs* I lied about both. I don't really care if you view it either way, you'll just have to assume that there is a chance I am either side (which is possible even if I was scum) and find that I am town or not. It's still your decision, but we'll see what happens.

Another instance of admitting to anti-town behavior instead of explaining it. You can't just ask us to write off your scummy behavior.

I read the attack on zilla to be more based on her abrasiveness than her actual play. Being aggressive is pro-town (especially on day 1.) I need to re-read more closely to see if there is a scummy motive behind the misrepresentation, but right now I remain convinced that BB is scum given his "you're right, my play was scummy" statements.

I understand that zilla isn't being attacked for being abrasive, I just think she's being attacked because she is abrasive. I read it as a scum-led drive against an unpopular player.

Not a contradiction.

The subject of the attack is not abrasiveness.
The motivation for attacking is that she is abrasive.

Simply put, she was recognized as an easy target which led to people looking for things to attack.

I don't have time to thoroughly evaluate the case against zilla but it just doesn't feel right to me. Beyond birthday was much scummier.

Beyond Birthday's refusing to defend his early scummy behavior was scummy. That's the difference.

Beyond Birthday launched the attack on Zilla. BB = scum.

I think that you and goat revolt found what you were looking for when you followed the scum driven wagon.

He clearly means that the claims is such that she can't be lynched on day 1.

I'm not a big fan of the "Oh, I played incorrectly, now let's move on" style of defense. BB did it and now Zilla has participated in it. Zilla seems to be saying she was tunneling on Goat instead of trying to find scum.

Zilla, I don't like the fact that you've ignored the request for a claim. Count me as demanding a claim as well.

I find scumlinking to be a fairly useful technique early on. It certainly isn't a perfect tool, but it often comes up with solid tells.

The amount of reading in this game is just ridiculous. I don't like panzer and dourgrim's implicit claim, however, that those with a lot of content are anti-town.

I don't find panzer's explanation of his contradictions adequate. He has consistently been fairly scummy.

1) The panzer switch was due to an increasing frustration with Panzer combined with the awareness of an potential problem at deadline.

2) I agreed with Panzer and BB's wagons but not with Zillas.

3) Saying that L-4 votes are scummy because they are less scummy than L-1 or hammer votes is an argument full of WIFOM.

In your first content post you list Panzer and Mykonian as your top two suspects and do not mention BB. In your very next post you vote for Birthday and do not mention Panzer or Mykonian at all. Why is this?

Because I found BB's admission of anti-town behavior to be extremely scummy

What was Gieff and I looking for?

If you Didn't agree with Zilla's wagon, then why did you FoS her and ask her to claim?

Finally, you voted Panzer for being consistently scummy, but didn't explain how he had been consistently scummy. What are your reasons for thinking Panzer is scum?

I'm still not over his lying about the "joke" vote.

I'm playing without a great deal of consideration as to what has happened - hence the appearance of opportunism. All I can say is that I've reacted to what I've seen.
