July 1st, 1988:
Welcome back to KBLY, where we're about to start our very first
Super Sounds of the Seventies
weekend! This is a new venture for us, so we hope you'll join us for a good time all the way through to the end of our run.

We'll be back in just a few moments, after this word from our sponsors.
  • Winners, Free and Clear:

  • Thok
    is
    Mr. Green
    , the
    Security Expert
    ;
  • NanookTheWolf
    (understudy/replacement for
    mole
    )
    is
    Mr. White
    , a
    Common, No-Name Hood
    ;
  • JereIC
    is ... another
    Mr. Green
    , and the
    Acrobat
    ;
  • warpdragon
    is
    Mr. Grey
    , also known as
Quentin Tarantino in a Director's Cameo
    ;
  • Lucresia
    is
    Ms. Burgundy
    , otherwise known as
    Alabama
    .
  • Coron
    is
    Mr. Magenta
    , better known as
    Joe Cabot, the Crime Boss
    , left the warehouse while the getting was good Night Five;
  • and
    Dragon Phoenix
    , or
    Mr. Purple
    , the
    Getaway Driver
, also vanished Night Five, but never showed up at the main hideout.
  • Dead and Gone:
  • LoudmouthLee
    , one of the
    Mr. White
    s and a
    Safe Cracker
    , was tortured and burned to death Night One;
  • spork76, who was
    Mr. Cyan
    but also
    an undercover FBI agent
    , was taken down in a hail of bullets Day One;
  • milkman
    , another
    Mr. White
    but in reality
    an undercover LAPD officer
, was shot by the group on Day Two.
  • Winners, but Behind Bars So They'll Have To Wait To Enjoy It:

  • Seol, known as
    Mr. Pink
, was sent to jail Night One for being
    Vic Vega
    (but he didn't rat on anybody);
  • Mr Stoofer was a
    Mr. White
    , or
    Nice Guy Eddie Cabot
, went to the jailhouse for a little stay Night Two.
    ... and
    LoudMouthLee
will be remembered fondly, if nauseatingly, as having died for the cause.
Game Over! Crooks all win (see page 13 for details).

Rules (borrowed and modified from Werebear):
  1. The mod is still god. There are some unusual features in this game. Feel free to PM me, but don't just assume I've made a mistake. I'll answer in thread if I have, but may not if it is intended behavior.
  2. Voting occurs at the end of a gun barrel in this game. Specifically, your gun:
    Draw on [Name]
    to 'vote' for someone.
    Holster
to unvote. I won't be a Nazi about this, but it does add flavor.
    Finger of Suspicion (FOS)
    remains unchanged.
  3. Once enough barrels are aimed at a particular person, they will be swiss cheese and the day is over. You may speak in twilight until the night scene is posted.
  4. Dead men tell no tales, in case you were wondering. A single uninformative 'flavor' post is acceptable, of course.
  5. Nights will last around 2-3 days, perhaps somewhat shorter in the late game or if all choices are in. If you need an extension, let me know.
  6. Days will last as long as they need to, within reason. If discussion lags, I may impose a retractable deadline. If it lags again the same 'Day', the next deadline will be firm.
No one dies if a deadline arrives without the required number of drawn weapons.
Remember, you're crooks, not townies; act like it!
  7. Acting as a crook does not require personal attacks, flames, or spamming. Violators will be re-educated with extreme prejudice.
  8. Don't edit or delete existing posts. See Rule #7.
  9. Don't quote any PMs from the mod. See Rules #7 & #8.
  10. Don't discuss this game out of thread unless you have permission from the mod. See rules #7, #8, & #9 for clarification.
  11. If you're going to be gone for a significant length of time, let everyone know. Management not responsible for other players believing your claim of absence, however.
  12. Have fun with it; this is a bit different of a game.
  13. Don't make me make you shoot yourself in the head.

Alright ramblers, let's get rambling. The job is an easy one, but it's gonna require everybody working together. The warehouse needs to be *cleared out* by
Tuesday, July 5th 11:59pm
, so if you haven't sent your night choices in by then, bad things will happen. If the police show up while we've got all this stolen loot in our possession, it won't be pretty, I can guarantee you that.

And here on KBLY's
Super Sounds of the Seventies
, we're going to kick things off with a little ditty from 1978 by the Bee Gees, called "Stayin' Alive":
  • Well, you can tell by the way I use my walk,
I’m a woman’s man: no time to talk.
Music loud and women warm, I’ve been kicked around
    Since I was born.
And now it’s all right. it’s ok.
And you may look the other way.
    We can try to understand
The new york times’ effect on man.

    Whether you’re a brother or whether you’re a mother,
    You’re stayin’ alive, stayin’ alive.
Feel the city breakin’ and everybody shakin’,
And we’re stayin’ alive, stayin’ alive.
Ah, ha, ha, ha, stayin’ alive, stayin’ alive.
Ah, ha, ha, ha, stayin’ alive.

Well now, I get low and I get high,
And if I can’t get either, I really try.
Got the wings of heaven on my shoes.
    I’m a dancin’ man and I just can’t lose.
You know it’s all right. it’s ok.
I’ll live to see another day.

Life goin’ nowhere. somebody help me.
    Somebody help me, yeah.
Life goin’ nowhere. somebody help me.
Somebody help me, yeah. stayin’ alive.

Well, you can tell by the way I use my walk,
I’m a woman’s man: no time to talk.
    Music loud and women warm,
I’ve been kicked around since I was born.
And now it’s all right. it’s ok.

Ah, ha, ha, ha, stayin’ alive, stayin’ alive.
Ah, ha, ha, ha, stayin’ alive.

It'd be nice if the job went well, but that wouldn't make for much of a story, would it? No, it seems someone tipped off the LAPD, and your warehouse full of hot merchandise is surrounded! Worse, in the confusion,
Seol
has gone missing. Was he the rat? Did he sense something was wrong and scram before things got really bad?

Then things go from bad to ugly...back in the back of the warehouse, you discover
LoudmouthLee
's mutilated body. Somebody apparently found time to tie him to a chair, carve him up a bit, and set him on fire. Must be the smoke bombs from the cops that made you all miss the smell of burning flesh, and the sirens masked his cries...no escaping this time for LML. His lockpicking tools are scattered and stomped into the floor, as if the sick bastard who did this danced while he burned.

LoudmouthLee, who was
Mr. White
and a Safe Cracker to boot, has been horribly murdered Night One.
Seol is nowhere to be found on the premises.

With 10 of you remaining, it will take 6 gun barrels to kill.

The *second* row is the target. 6 barrels drawn on one person will kill.

And now a special request here on
Super Sounds of the Seventies
... it's Don McLean's "American Pie", uninterrupted:
  • A long, long time ago...
    I can still remember
How that music used to make me smile.
And I knew if I had my chance
That I could make those people dance
And, maybe, they’d be happy for a while.

    But february made me shiver
    With every paper I’d deliver.
    Bad news on the doorstep;
I couldn’t take one more step.

    I can’t remember if I cried
When I read about his widowed bride,
But something touched me deep inside
    The day the music died.

    So bye-bye, miss american pie.
Drove my chevy to the levee,
    But the levee was dry.
And them good old boys were drinkin’ whiskey and rye
Singin’, "this’ll be the day that I die.
"this’ll be the day that I die."

Did you write the book of love,
And do you have faith in God above,
If the Bible tells you so?
Do you believe in rock ’n roll,
Can music save your mortal soul,
And can you teach me how to dance real slow?

Well, I know that you’re in love with him
`cause I saw you dancin’ in the gym.
You both kicked off your shoes.
Man, I dig those rhythm and blues.

I was a lonely teenage broncin’ buck
With a pink carnation and a pickup truck,
But I knew I was out of luck
    The day the music died.

    I started singin’,
    "bye-bye, miss american pie."
Drove my chevy to the levee,
    But the levee was dry.
Them good old boys were drinkin’ whiskey and rye
And singin’, "this’ll be the day that I die.
"this’ll be the day that I die."

Now for ten years we’ve been on our own
And moss grows fat on a rollin’ stone,
But that’s not how it used to be.
When the jester sang for the king and queen,
In a coat he borrowed from james dean
And a voice that came from you and me,

Oh, and while the king was looking down,
The jester stole his thorny crown.
    The courtroom was adjourned;
    No verdict was returned.
And while lennon read a book of marx,
The quartet practiced in the park,
And we sang dirges in the dark
    The day the music died.

    We were singing,
    "bye-bye, miss american pie."
Drove my chevy to the levee,
    But the levee was dry.
Them good old boys were drinkin’ whiskey and rye
And singin’, "this’ll be the day that I die.
"this’ll be the day that I die."

Helter skelter in a summer swelter.
The birds flew off with a fallout shelter,
Eight miles high and falling fast.
It landed foul on the grass.
The players tried for a forward pass,
With the jester on the sidelines in a cast.

Now the half-time air was sweet perfume
While the sergeants played a marching tune.
We all got up to dance,
Oh, but we never got the chance!
    `cause the players tried to take the field;
The marching band refused to yield.
Do you recall what was revealed
    The day the music died?

    We started singing,
    "bye-bye, miss american pie."
Drove my chevy to the levee,
    But the levee was dry.
Them good old boys were drinkin’ whiskey and rye
And singin’, "this’ll be the day that I die.
"this’ll be the day that I die."

Oh, and there we were all in one place,
    A generation lost in space
With no time left to start again.
So come on: jack be nimble, jack be quick!
Jack flash sat on a candlestick
Cause fire is the devil’s only friend.

Oh, and as I watched him on the stage
My hands were clenched in fists of rage.
    No angel born in hell
    Could break that satan’s spell.
And as the flames climbed high into the night
    To light the sacrificial rite,
I saw satan laughing with delight
    The day the music died

    He was singing,
    "bye-bye, miss american pie."
Drove my chevy to the levee,
    But the levee was dry.
Them good old boys were drinkin’ whiskey and rye
And singin’, "this’ll be the day that I die.
"this’ll be the day that I die."

I met a girl who sang the blues
And I asked her for some happy news,
But she just smiled and turned away.
I went down to the sacred store
Where I’d heard the music years before,
But the man there said the music wouldn’t play.

And in the streets: the children screamed,
The lovers cried, and the poets dreamed.
    But not a word was spoken;
The church bells all were broken.
And the three men I admire most:
The father, son, and the holy ghost,
They caught the last train for the coast
    The day the music died.

    And they were singing,
    "bye-bye, miss american pie."
Drove my chevy to the levee,
    But the levee was dry.
And them good old boys were drinkin’ whiskey and rye
Singin’, "this’ll be the day that I die.
"this’ll be the day that I die."

    They were singing,
    "bye-bye, miss american pie."
Drove my chevy to the levee,
    But the levee was dry.
Them good old boys were drinkin’ whiskey and rye
Singin’, "this’ll be the day that I die."
We'll be back with more KBLY later in the day.

And just that fast, it starts. A hail of bullets take
spork76
down faster than anyone expects (even the Moderator). As he lies broken and bleeding on the floor, you see him try to reach for something... and then he dies with a thud that echoes across the warehouse.

Deafened by the sudden gunfire and the racket of police megaphones wanting to know
"what's going on inside"
, you go through his pockets and discover a pair of handcuffs and a concealed badge. It appears that he was actually an
undercover FBI Agent
; there's no indication who, if anyone, he was working with, however. You're not safe yet...

It is now Night Two. Choices due by Friday,
August
July 22nd, at 11:59pm.
(fixed typo)

And now on KBLY's
Super Sounds of the Seventies
, we're going to take you back to Paul McCartney's days with Wings. Here is "Band on the Run":
  • Stuck inside these four walls,
    Sent inside forever,
    Never seeing no one
    Nice again like you,
    Mama you, mama you.

If I ever get out of here,
Thought of giving it all away
    To a registered charity.
All I need is a pint a day
If I ever get out of here.

Well, the rain exploded with a mighty crash
As we fell into the sun,
And the first one said to the second one there
    I hope you're having fun.
Band on the run, band on the run.
And the jailer man and sailor sam
    Were searching every one
For the band on the run, band on the run
Band on the run, band on the run.
Well, the undertaker drew a heavy sigh
Seeing no one else had come,
And a bell was ringing in the village square
For the rabbits on the run.
Band on the run, band on the run.
And the jailer man and sailor sam
    Were searching every one
For the band on the run, band on the run
Band on the run, band on the run.

Well, the night was falling as the desert world
    Began to settle down.
In the town they're searching for us every where
But we never will be found.

Band on the run, band on the run.
And the county judge who held a grudge
    Will search for evermore
For the band on the run, band on the run
Band on the run band on the run,

    Band on the run
    Band on the run...

Dawn comes, and with it a dimming of the police flashers outside the warehouse. They're still there, though, and you're still stuck in here, and somewhere there's a problem...

Mr Stoofer
, however, would seem to have escaped the situation. At least, no one knows where he's at, and that leaves just eight of you to figure out how to escape, and to find the infiltrators lurking amongst your crew.

Mr Stoofer, one of the
Mr. White
s, is missing from the warehouse.

It is now Day Two; with 8 people present, that means 5 will cause an execution.

And now KBLY returns with another special request for our listeners out there; it's Aerosmith singing "Remember (Walking in the Sand)" from 1979, covering the breakout hit tune by the same name, originally written by The Shangri-Las in 1964.
  • Seems like the other day
    My baby went away
She went away, 'cross the sea

It's been two years or so
Since I saw my baby go
And then this letter came for me

It said that we was through
    She found somebody new
    Oh, lemme think, lemme think
    What shall I do

    Oh, no
    Oh, no
Oh, no no no no no
    Remember, walking in the sand
    Remember, walking hand in hand
Remember, the night was so exciting
Remember, her smile was so inviting
Remember, then she touched my cheek
    Remember, with her fingertips
    Remember, softly
Softly we met with a kiss

    Whatever happened to
The girl that I once knew
The girl that said, she'd been true
    Oh, whatever happened to
That night I gave it to you
What will I do with it now
    Oh...

Let's keep up the dramatic tension here, people.
Tentative deadline of Friday, August 5th at midnight
, subject to change/removal if you start posting more or the site goes into Moving Day mode.

My deadline rules are adapted from DS/Polotet's "modified plurality of votes" rule: Minimum of 50% of the *cast 'votes'*, minimum 3 to deadline lynch. If 7 barrels are out, then 50% of that would be 4, for example. Right now, 3 would do it.

Once the bullet leaves the barrel, there's no calling it back. And Lucresia's bullet starts a shootout that leaves milkman's ruined corpse on the warehouse floor. A quick search of his blood-spattered clothing leaves you relieved to find out that the silent partner was indeed an undercover cop.

milkman, known as
Mr. White
but really
an undercover LAPD officer
, was shot by the group Day Two.

It is now Night Two; get your choices in by Wednesday, August 10th at midnight.

KBLY now has another selection for you from the archives; "Mama Told Me Not To Come" by Three Dog Night. Have a listen:
  • Want some whiskey in your water?
    Sugar in your tea?
What's all these crazy questions they askin' me
This is the craziest party there could ever be
Don't turn on the lights, 'cause I don't want to see.

Mama told me not to come
Mama told me not to come
That ain't the way to have fun, no.

    Open up the window
Let some air into this room.
    I think I'm almost chokin'
From the smell of stale perfume.

    And that cigarette you're smoking
'Bout scared me half to death.
    Open up the window, sucker
    Let me catch my breath.

Mama told me not to come
Mama told me not to come
She said, that ain't the way to have fun, son.
That ain't the way to have fun, son.

    The radio is blastin'
    Someone's knocking at the door.
    I'm lookin' at my girlfriend
She's passed out on the floor.

    I seen so many things
    I ain't never seen before,
    Don't know what it is
I don't wanna see no more.

Mama told me, mama told me, mama told me
    Told me, told me
That ain't no way to have fun, whoah, yeah yeah
Mama told me not to come
    Mama, mama, mama told me
That ain't no way to have fun.

That ain't the way to have fun, no

You wake up sore and creaky from another night on the floor of the warehouse. The police are still staked out outside, preventing you from escaping, and the atmosphere in here is still tense, despite recent successes in outing undercover officers in your midst.

A quick check reveals all seven of you still around, however... no one has gone missing, and no one else has ended up tortured and burned like LoudmouthLee the first night. What can it all mean?

It is now Day Three; with seven of you in the building, four gun barrels will trigger a killin'.

4 to shoot somebody, or the same number of strong commitments to "no lynch".

KBLY is back with another special request for our listeners out there. This song is a *little* older than most of our selections, but it was first given a rock cover tune by Thin Lizzy in 1973. We hear that it's been covered again since then, but really, they said it all when they sang about the "Whiskey in the Jar":
  • As I was goin’ over the Cork and Kerry mountains
I saw Captain Farrell, and his money he was countin’
I first produced my pistol, and then produced my rapier
I said "stand and deliver, or the devil he may take ya"

Musha ring dum a doo dum a da
    Whack for my daddy-o
    Whack for my daddy-o
    There’s whiskey in the jar-o

I took all of his money, and it was a pretty penny
I took all of his money, and I brought it home to Molly
She swore that she’d love me, never would she leave me
But the devil take that woman, for you know she tricked me easy

Musha ring dum a doo dum a da
    Whack for my daddy-o
    Whack for my daddy-o
    There’s whiskey in the jar-o

Being drunk and weary, I went to Molly’s chamber
Takin’ my money with me, and I never knew the danger
For about six or maybe seven, in walked Captain Farrell
I jumped up, fired off my pistols, and I shot him with both barrels

Musha ring dum a doo dum a da
    Whack for my daddy-o
    Whack for my daddy-o
    There’s whiskey in the jar-o

Now some men like the fishin’, and some men like the fowlin’
And some men like ta hear a cannon ball a roarin’
Me I like sleepin’, specially in my Molly’s chamber
But here I am in prison, here I am with a ball and chain yeah

Musha ring dum a doo dum a da
    Whack for my daddy-o
    Whack for my daddy-o
    There’s whiskey in the jar-o

Musha ring dum a doo dum a da
    Whack for my daddy-o
    Whack for my daddy-o
    There’s whiskey in the jar-o

Pulling together to figure out all of the new information, the suspicious gang of thieves come to the conclusion that maybe, just this once, they can all trust each other not to shoot each other. Several people unload the clips from their guns, and the group warily heads back to bed just as a thunderstorm breaks outside. With the droplets of rain pinging off the corrugated roof of the warehouse, you're not even sure the police are still outside. Are those flashes of lightning, or police cruisers?

No one has been shot. It is now Night Four; choices are due by Friday, August 19th at midnight.

--------------------------------------------------

Here on KBLY studio, we can hear the rain coming down tonight. Join us now, won't you, in listening to the Eagles rendition of "Take It To The Limit":
  • All alone at the end of your evening
And the bright lights have faded to gloom
I was thinking about a woman who might love me
    I never knew

You know I've always been a dreamer
    Spent my life running 'round
And it's so hard to change
    Can't seem to settle down
But the dreams I've seen lately
Keep on turning out, and burning out, and turning out the same

So put me on a highway
    And show me a sign
And take it to the limit
    One more time.

You can spend all your time making money
You can spend all your love making time
If it all fell to pieces tomorrow
    Would you still be mine?

And when you're looking for your freedom
    Nobody seems to care
And you can't find the door
    Can't find it anywhere
When there's nothing to believe in
Still you're coming back, your running back, you're coming back for more

So put me on a highway
    And show me a sign
And take it to the limit
    One more time.

Take it to the limit, take it to the limit, take it to the limit
    One more time
Take it to the limit, take it to the limit, take it to the limit
    One more time
Take it to the limit, take it to the limit, take it to the limit
    One more time
Take it to the limit, take it to the limit, take it to the limit
    One more time
Take it to the limit, take it to the limit, take it to the limit
    One more time.

The storm tapers off towards morning, but it's quiet outside, at least at first. Perhaps they're waiting to see what happens, too? For you, you all wake to see that nothing much has changed.

Day Four dawns with seven still in the warehouse; that means four barrels will cause a kill.

--------------------------------------------------

KBLY would like to take time out this morning to honor a songwriter who passed away not too long ago.
Howl along with the "Werewolves of London", by Warren Zevon:
  • I saw a werewolf with a Chinese menu in his hand
Walking through the streets of Soho in the rain
He was looking for a place called Lee Ho Fook's
Going to get himself a big dish of beef chow mein
    Werewolves of London

If you hear him howling around your kitchen door
    Better not let him in
Little old lady got mutilated late last night
    Werewolves of London again
    Werewolves of London

He's the hairy-handed gent who ran amuck in Kent
Lately he's been overheard in Mayfair
    Better stay away from him
He'll rip your lungs out, Jim
I'd like to meet his tailor
    Werewolves of London

Well, I saw Lon Chaney walking with the Queen

Welcome back to KBLY, faithful listeners. It's time for another called-in request, this time it's that most famous of Blue Öyster Cult songs, although a fan might say not their best. Yes, we're talking about "(Don't Fear) The Reaper":
  • All our times -- have come,
Here but now -- they're gone.

    Seasons don't fear the reaper,
    Nor do the wind,
the sun or the rain So come on baby, (don't fear the reaper)
Take my hand (don't fear the reaper)
We'll be able to fly, (don't fear the reaper)
    Cause baby, I'm your man...
    Baby, I'm your man...
    Valentine -- is done,
Here but now -- they're gone.

    Romeo and Juliet,
Are together in eternity (Romeo and Juliet)
men and women everyday (like Romeo and Juliet)
Another everyday (we can be like they are)
So come on baby (don't fear the reaper)
Take my hand (don't fear the reaper)
We'll be able to fly (don't fear the reaper)
    Cause baby, I'm your man...
    Baby, I'm your man...

    Romeo and Juliet,
Are together in eternity (Romeo and Juliet)
So come on baby (don't fear the reaper)
Take my hand (don't fear the reaper)
We'll be able to fly (don't fear the reaper)

Once again, the group decides not to kill any member of the gang. In the stillness of nightfall, you realize that you haven't heard anything from outside on quite a while. Are the cops still there? Is it finally time to try to escape? Only one way to find out...

Each player must send in a choice to *Flee* or *Stay*, before dawn; no in-thread discussion will be allowed.
Night will last a little longer than usual to allow you time to decide. What will happen at dawn? A couple of options exist:
  • If the entire gang chooses Stay, the game will continue as before.
  • If a majority of the gang chooses Stay, those who Flee may or may not be caught by the police who may or may not be staked out outside.
  • If a majority of the gang chooses to Flee, then you'll find out whether or not said police are still maintaining said stakeout. However sticking together will allow those who leave a better chance to escape, and doom those who Stay (if there are still cops, of course).
  • If the entire gang chooses to Flee, then the game will end. Win conditions apply as stated in your PM.
Feel free to send me a PM asking for clarification before you choose what to do. Again, the thread is closed and there is to be NO private message discussion amongst those remaining, unless you already had that privilege.

If you have normal night choices as well, please send those in addition to your choice to Stay or Flee.
Choices are due by Monday, Sept. 12th, at midnight.

KBLY has an oldie but a goodie for you tonight; a song by Cher called, "Gypsies, Tramps, and Thieves". Take a listen while you work:
  • I was born in the wagon of a travellin' show
My mama used to dance for the money they'd throw
Papa would do whatever he could
Preach a little gospel, sell a couple bottles of Doctor Good

    Gypsies, tramps, and thieves
We'd hear it from the people of the town
They'd call us Gypsies, tramps, and thieves
But every night all the men would come around
    And lay their money down

Picked up a boy just south of Mobile
Gave him a ride, filled him with a hot meal
I was sixteen, he was twenty-one
    Rode with us to Memphis
And papa woulda shot him if he knew what he'd done

    Gypsies, tramps, and thieves
We'd hear it from the people of the town
They'd call us Gypsies, tramps, and thieves
But every night all the men would come around
    And lay their money down

I never had schoolin' but he taught me well
    With his smooth southern style
Three months later I'm a gal in trouble
    And I haven't seen him for a while, uh-huh
    I haven't seen him for a while, uh-huh

She was born in the wagon of a travellin' show
Her mama had to dance for the money they'd throw
    Grandpa'd do whatever he could
Preach a little gospel, sell a couple bottles of Doctor Good

    Gypsies, tramps, and thieves
We'd hear it from the people of the town
They'd call us Gypsies, tramps, and thieves
But every night all the men would come around
    And lay their money down

Stumbling awake, you listen for the sound of your partners in crime. Those of you still in the warehouse hear less than before; it appears that
Coron
and
Dragon Phoenix
both disappeared overnight. Did they escape? No sounds from outside to indicate that you're going to be stormed, but... there are so many unanswered questions left for the five of you remaining.

Coron,
Mr. Magenta
, seems to have disappeared Night Five.
Dragon Phoenix, or
Mr. Purple
, also vanished Night Five.

It is now Day Five; with five of you remaining in the warehouse, three can make a decision for the dwindling group.

KBLY wants you to rise and shine with a cheerful little piece by Edwin Starr, titled "War":
  • War, huh, yeah
    What is it good for
    Absolutely nothing
    Uh-huh
    War, huh, yeah
    What is it good for
    Absolutely nothing
    Say it again, y'all

    War, huh, good God
    What is it good for
    Absolutely nothing
    Listen to me

    Ohhh, war, I despise
    Because it means destruction
    Of innocent lives

    War means tears
    To thousands of mothers eyes
When their sons go to fight
    And lose their lives

    I said, war, huh
    Good God, y'all
    What is it good for
    Absolutely nothing
    Say it again

    War, whoa, Lord
    What is it good for
    Absolutely nothing
    Listen to me

    War, it ain't nothing
    But a heartbreaker
War, friend only to the undertaker
    Ooooh, war
It's an enemy to all mankind
The point of war blows my mind
    War has caused unrest
    Within the younger generation
    Induction then destruction
    Who wants to die
    Aaaaah, war-huh
    Good God y'all
    What is it good for
    Absolutely nothing
Say it, say it, say it
    War, huh
    What is it good for
    Absolutely nothing
    Listen to me

    War, huh, yeah
    What is it good for
    Absolutely nothing
    Uh-huh
    War, huh, yeah
    What is it good for
    Absolutely nothing
    Say it again y'all
    War, huh, good God
    What is it good for
    Absolutely nothing
    Listen to me

War, it ain't nothing but a heartbreaker
    War, it's got one friend
    That's the undertaker
    Ooooh, war, has shattered
    Many a young mans dreams
Made him disabled, bitter and mean
Life is much to short and precious
To spend fighting wars these days
    War can't give life
It can only take it away

    Ooooh, war, huh
    Good God y'all
    What is it good for
    Absolutely nothing
    Say it again

    War, whoa, Lord
    What is it good for
    Absolutely nothing
    Listen to me

War, it ain't nothing but a heartbreaker
War, friend only to the undertaker
    Peace, love and understanding
Tell me, is there no place for them today
They say we must fight to keep our freedom
But Lord knows there's got to be a better way

    Ooooooh, war, huh
    Good God y'all
    What is it good for
    You tell me
Say it, say it, say it, say it

    War, huh
    Good God y'all
    What is it good for
    Stand up and shout it
    Nothing

Situation Count:

Quiet.

With five present, three will decide.
--------------------------------------

KBLY has a special request for our listeners this morning; Mr. Croce has passed on, but his music lives in with the classic bad-boy piece, "Bad, Bad, Leroy Brown":
  • Well 'ole south side of Chicago
Is the baddest part of town
And if you go down there
    You better just beware
Of a man name of Leroy Brown

    Now Leroy more than trouble
You see he stand about six foot four
All those downtown ladies call him "Treetop Lover"
All the mens just call him "Sir"

And he's bad, bad Leroy Brown
The baddest man in the whole damned town
    Badder than a-old King Kong
And meaner than a junkyard dog

    Now Leroy he a gambler
And he like his fancy clothes
And he like to wear his diamond rings
    In front of everybody's nose

    He got a custom Continental
    He got a Eldorado too
He got a .32 gun in his pocket for fun
He got a razor in his shoe

And he's bad (bad) bad (bad) Leroy Brown
The baddest man in the whole damned town
    Badder than a-old King Kong
And meaner than a junkyard dog

Well Friday 'bout a week ago
    Leroy shootin' dice
And at the edge of the bar
    Sat a girl named Doris
And oo that girl looked nice

Well he cast his eyes upon her
    And the trouble soon began
And Leroy Brown had learned a lesson 'bout a-messin'
With the wife of a jealous man

And he's bad (bad) bad (bad) Leroy Brown
The baddest man in the whole damned town
    Badder than a-old King Kong
And meaner than a junkyard dog

Well the two men took to fighting
And when they pulled them from the floor
Leroy looked like a jigsaw puzzle
With a couple of pieces gone

And it's bad, bad Leroy Brown
The baddest man in the whole damned town
    Badder than a-old King Kong
And meaner than a junkyard dog

And he's bad (bad) bad (bad) Leroy Brown
The baddest man in the whole damned town
    Badder than a-old King Kong
And meaner than a junkyard dog

Yeah he was badder than a-old King Kong
And meaner than a junkyard dog.

Whatever you're going to do, consider doing it quickly. The longer you sit around here, the more chance there is of something going wrong.

Final Day Five Situation Count:

[mrow]Player[col]Target[col]Count
Thok, warpdragon, Lucresia
[col]
Unloaded clip
[col]
3

Holstered: NanookTheWolf, JereIC.

Dawning realization comes into several of your eyes as you realize you might be able to get away after all. Is tonight the night to make a break for it? Nobody dies face-to-face, but what does the night hold?

Each player should again send in a choice to *Flee* or *Stay*, before dawn.
Night will end when all choices are in.
NO private message discussion amongst those remaining, unless you already had that privilege.

If you have normal night choices as well, please send those in addition to your choice to Stay or Flee.
Choices are due by Tuesday, Sept. 20th, at midnight.

KBLY has a little traveling music for our ramblers tonight, courtesy of the Allman Brothers, or those who are left alive, anyway:
  • Lord, I was born a ramblin' man
Tryin' to make a livin' and doin' the best I can
And when it's time for leavin'
    I hope you'll understand
That I was born a ramblin' man

My father was a gambler down in Georgia
He wound up on the wrong end of a gun
And I was born in the back seat of a Greyhound bus
    Rollin' down highway forty-one

Lord, I was born a ramblin' man
Tryin' to make a livin' and doin' the best I can
And when it's time for leavin'
    I hope you'll understand
That I was born a ramblin' man

I'm on my way to New Orleans this mornin'
I'm leavin' out of Nashville, Tennessee
They're always having a good time down on the bayou
Lord, them Delta women think the world of me

Lord, I was born a ramblin' man
Tryin' to make a livin' and doin' the best I can
And when it's time for leavin'
    I hope you'll understand
That I was born a ramblin' man

Lord, I was born a ramblin' man
Lord, I was born a ramblin' man
Lord, I was born a ramblin' man

One by one, the criminals
warpdragon
,
JereIC
,
Thok
, and
NanookTheWolf
slip out into the night from the warehouse where so much of our drama took place. Someone takes a few potshots at them as they go, but no police seem to be around (at least, no more than usual for the docks on a Sunday night), and no one gets hit.
Lucresia
also leaves, once she notices she's the last one standing there alone. All of you make it back to the main hideout, where
Coron
is waiting for you.
Dragon Phoenix
, however, is nowhere to be seen, and neither are any of the other people who disappeared over the course of the tense days in the warehouse.

Game Over! Crooks all win (see next post for details).

Thanks all for a very interesting game. The cops went down like ninepins in the very early game, but they also managed to take out the only person who could defend against them, the vigilante Vic Vega (Mr. Blond from the later movie). With LML dying Night One, there was no 'doctor' role against being handcuffed and thrown outside for the waiting police, so it could have gotten very painful. warpdragon's role was a LOT of fun, and making sure I gave him answers that COULD be figured out, but not easily, was a trip. Watching you argue over "Don't Fear The Reaper" made me giggle for days; it was actually supposed to indicate that she would NOT die, which is the general intent of the song (life/love everlasting).

I like that it has some roles from the movie, but not all of them; that it has some reliable investigators, but not all of them; that not everyone is an investigator (which could have bit the Cops on the ass if they had to roleclaim and the other 10 were all investigative roles). I'm also completely amazed that ALL the roles that 'need' to be alive for the actual movie,
are
(Alabama, Joe and Eddie Cabot, Vic Vega, and QT). We'll assume that the cops had to let Eddie go eventually when Vic didn't squeal, but Vic went to jail, after all, for the murder of LML (and maybe they pinned those two cops on him as well). Seol was so mad that night when he got caught, he was planning on killing every night, as a psycho vig!

Note that the undercovers did NOT know each other at the beginning, but if they targetted each other (or the Snitch), they'd have formed a group. When you took out both roles that could eliminate criminal (town) players, you actually made your job much harder. Kudos to Dragon Phoenix for sticking it out and waiting to run until he had a fair chance (if he'd taken the option to run earlier, anyone investigating him that night would have caught him!). He wins separately by virtue of fleeing, though I'd say his days of snitching on this gang are about done....

Comments, questions, suggestions? I liked the flavor of having Mexican Standoffs instead of voting, and will keep that for any like-themed games I do in the future (thanks for helping me sort out what FOS should become, too!).

Mr. Flay

Roles:
  1. warpdragon:
Your role in this story is "
    Mr. Grey
", but more importantly, you're also
    Quentin Tarantino
    in a
    Director's Cameo
! It's unlikely you'll play a major part in the story, except you DO know how it's going to end, kinda.
During the Night, you send me a question about something in the game. Your answer will come in the form of theme music, at some point during the following Day
(this role is sometimes called a Soothsayer)
. You win with the crooks in this script.
Note: Soothsayer. Use 70's songs wherever possible with 'K-BILLY' thematic text, sometime in the first 48-72 hours after Daybreak. Be as enigmatic as possible.

  2. Coron:
Your role in this story is "
    Mr. Magenta
    ", more commonly known as
    Joe Cabot, Crime Lord
! You put this heist together, and now you're right in the middle of it with the boys. However since you hired them, it's possible you'll be able to help sort out who is loyal and who's a rat.
Each Night, send me the name of a player you wish to rack your brains about. Before morning, I'll tell you what you remember about them
    (so essentially, you're an Investigator)
. You win with the crooks, obviously.
    Note: Sane.

  3. Mr Stoofer:
Your role in this story is "
    Mr. White
    ", more commonly known as
    Eddie Cabot, Joe's son
! You're young and inexperienced, but you've grown up at your father's feet learning his trade, and it's possible you can tell who the fink is.
Each Night, send me the name of a player you wish to go intimidate. I'll let you know what you find out
(you're an Investigative role, in other words)
. You win with the crooks, in case that wasn't clear.
Note: 50% Sane (if he fails, he gets no result, not a false one). If Joe dies at Night, he gets half of Joe's investigations as a "dying breath".

  4. milkman:
Your role in this story is "
    Mr. White
", more commonly known as... well, let's not get into that right now. See, you're an
    undercover LAPD officer
! You've been assigned to infiltrate this den of thieves and help bring them to justice, not to be a cowboy. Therefore you're not going to be killing *anybody*, directly.
Instead, at Night you can handcuff a player and toss them outside for the backup officers to arrest and take care of all legal-like. While you'd like them to think that you want to win with the crooks, you're actually trying to get them all arrested or neutralized somehow. Rumor has it there's also a Fed around here somewhere, but you have no idea who...
    (effectively, you're a 1-man Mafia)
Note: 'Scum', i.e. Cop. If he handcuffs the FBI Agent, they'll recognize each other and be able to work as a team from then on, although they still keep their separate night actions.

  5. Seol:
Your role in this story is "
    Mr. Pink
    ", more commonly known as
    Vic Vega, Fucking Psycho
! You've got a twitchy trigger finger and a sick sense of humor, and things aren't getting better now that the job's been compromised! However, you're not afraid to take action...
Each Night, you may, if you choose, send me the name of a player you'd like to 'interrogate', err torture, well, really just kill (and how you'd like to do it). Despite your antisocial tendencies, you really do win with the criminal mob
(you're a Vigilante, in other words)
    .
  6. spork76:
Your role in this story is "
    Mr. Cyan
", more commonly known as... well, that's not important right now. You see, you're actually an
    undercover FBI Agent
! You've been sent to bring down this crime syndicate and deliver them to justice, not to be a Dirty Harry. Therefore you're not going to be killing *anyone*, directly.
Instead, at Night you handcuff crooks and push them outside for the local cops to book and process. While you'd like them to think that you want to win with the crooks, you're actually trying to get them all arrested or killed somehow. Rumor has it there's also a local Cop around here somewhere, but you have no idea who...
    (effectively, you're a 1-man Mafia)
Note: 'Scum', i.e. FBI. If he handcuffs the LAPD officer, they'll recognize each other and be able to work as a team from then on, still maintaining two night actions.

  7. Lucresia:
Your role in this story is "
    Ms. Burgundy
    ", more commonly known as
    Alabama (Larry-from-Michigan's future-former-girlfriend)
! You're a hot female crook with enough balls to play with the big boys, but right now you're all business. There's no time for fun when there's a rat in the house, but maybe you can use your assets to your advantage.
Each Night, you may try to seduce a player and find out who they're really working for
(making you a special type of Investigator)
. You win with the crooks in this scenario.
Note: Naïve Investigator; always receives "Criminal" results.

  8. mole (now NanookTheWolf):
Your role in this story is "
    Mr. White
", and up until today you were just a
    Common No-Name Hood
! However now that the job's gone sour, you've realized some depth of resolve deep inside yourself, and you're gonna try to help find out who the rat fink is.
Each Night, you may send me the name of a player you'd like to snoop around and try to find out what side they're really on
(in other words, you're a type of Investigator)
. You will win if the crooks make it out of here alive..
Note: Insane; will receive "Criminal" for the undercovers and "Cop" for everybody else, even the Traitor.

  9. LoudmouthLee:
Your role in this story is "
    Mr. White
", and you were hired as the
    Safe Cracker
! In fact, your skill at getting locks undone is generally applicable, and may become moreso now that there's somebody with regulation-issue handcuffs around.
Each Night you may send me the name of a player to check on; if they are tied up or restrained when you find them, you'll probably be able to set them free
(you have a protective role, much like a Doctor)
. You win if the criminal gang gets out of here safely.
Note: Rescues criminals from being Handcuffed, before they can be thrown out the door. Two sets of handcuffs means he has only a 50% chance to succeed. May not rescue himself.

  10. Thok:
Your role in this story is "
    Mr. Green
", and you were hired as the
    Security Expert
! In this rustic setting, however, you're going to have to be a little more creative with your skills to help find the snitch.
Each Night you may send me the name of a player to snoop on; I'll let you know if they get up to go somewhere, and who they are hanging out with in the dark
(this is sometimes called a Lassie role)
. You win if the gang suceeds in escaping from here.
Note: Lassie. Will know if someone gets up and goes to someone else, but not what they did there.

  11. JereIC:
Your role in this story is "
    Mr. Green
", and you were brought to the team because you're an
    Acrobat
! Actually, you're more of a Contortionist, and that might just be handy now that there's suddenly a lot of handcuffs around
(this will give you some automatic immunity to cop-like actions, like a Bulletproof Vest in a normal game)
    .
You have no Night actions, but you stand a good chance of escaping from custody should it be imposed on you. You'll win with the true criminals in this place.
Able to escape being handcuffed before he can be thrown out. Two sets of handcuffs means he has only a 25% chance to succeed.

  12. Dragon Phoenix:
Your role in this story is "
    Mr. Purple
", and you were hired as the
    Getaway Driver
! Unknown to everyone else, however, you're also a
    Paid Snitch
, working with law enforcement from the inside
(this role is commonly labeled a Traitor)
. Just as you got this job, you found out that
    milkman
    and
    spork76
are the rats in the cage; they don't know that you know what they know, though... you know?
You have no Night actions, I'm afraid; merely your own survival instinct to get out of this alive. And that's precisely what you'll need to do to win this game.
Wins as long as he is not lynched or vig-killed. If he outlives both cops, he can choose to stay or go (if he leaves, and is investigated, he'll be caught and brought back for questioning).
Actions:

Night One:

Thok tracks Seol tonight, seeing him with LoudmouthLee most of the night.
warpdragon asks, "How many people are there who are not on my side?" =
American Pie
, Don McLean (3).
Coron reminisces about Seol, remembering working with him on prior jobs. He's clean.
Mr Stoofer intimidates Seol as well; coin toss says he gets no result, however.
Seol is going to cut off LoudmouthLee's ear, and set him on fire. There goes the 'doc'...
mole targets DP, and is certain that he's a Cop! (whoops...)
Lucresia also is...ahem, 'investigating' Seol tonight, finding him to be a criminal at heart.
spork76 chooses to handcuff Seol and toss him out. Thus he'll not be around tomorrow, unless LML saves him.
milkman chose to handcuff Seol and toss him out, as well.
Not that it matters, but LML missed his choice tonight.
Day One:

Lynched spork76.
Night Two:

Thok would like to observe mole, who spends quite a bit of time with Coron.
Mr Stoofer investigated Thok, coin toss would determine if he got a result, if he was sticking around...
Coron investigates JereIC, and knows he's done actual time for criminal acts.
Lucresia seduces Dragon Phoenix, finding him to have a Criminal's heart and soul.
warpdragon's question is "Do the scum have any other powers besides nightkilling and a possibly godfather?" = Aerosmith's "Remember (Walking in the Sand)" (No).
milkman handcuffs Mr Stoofer to toss outside.
mole chooses to investigate Coron, and comes to believe that he is a Cop.
Day Two:

milkman was shot by the group. Both undercovers down...
Night Three:

Thok watched JereIC sleep, mostly...
Dragon Phoenix had the choice to become a killer at night, or leave the building, or stay as he was. He chose to stay with the gang...
Lucresia seduces Thok, learning through pillow talk that he has to be a criminal.
warpdragon asked, "If whoever kidnapped Seol and Mr Stoofer is killed, will they return to the game?" = Thin Lizzy's "Whiskey in the Jar" (No).
Coron reminisces about Thok, who he remembers as being valuable on prior jobs.
mole investigates Lucresia, and dicovers that she's an undercover officer.
Day Three:

Group agrees not to shoot anybody.
Night Four:

Thok tracks Lucresia, but she sleeps soundly through the night.
Coron reminisces about Dragon Phoenix, who has worked with him in the past.
warpdragon asked, "If the boss shot all of the police rats, would Ms Burgundy still be alive?" = answer is Blue Öyster Cult, "(Don't Fear) The Reaper" (Yes).
Lucresia missed her night choice.
mole investigated warpdragon, and finds him to be a cop, too.
Day Four:

Group agrees not to lynch. "Endgame" escape clause activated for all players. If they choose to leave, they're safe. If they stay, game continues.
Night Five:

warpdragon says Stay, and asks "Does Mr. Magenta have a badge?" - answer is Jim Croce's "Bad, Bad, Leroy Brown" (No).
Lucresia says Stay, and seduces warpdragon, believing him to be a criminal at heart.
NanookTheWolf says Stay, and investigates JereIC, believing to to be an officer of the law.
JereIC chooses to Stay as well.
Thok chooses to Stay, and tracks Lucresia to warpdragon's place of rest for the night.
DragonPhoenix chooses to Leave on his own, and thus escapes, satisfying his individual win condition.
Coron sneaks back to the main hideout, satisfying his win condition. Since he's the only true crook to go yet, he has no idea what happens to the rest of you, yet...
Day Five:

No Lynch chosen; endgame clause applies once more.
Night Six:

warpdragon, JereIC, Thok, NanookTheWolf all choose to Flee, and escape to win (w/Coron). Mr Stoofer, Seol (and LML, posthumously) all win as well, though they'll be a little delayed sitting in jail/the morgue...
Lucresia will flee once she notices that she's the only one left, I'm sure... ;)

Sorry, thread unlocked for discussion.

::edit:: Winners list modified in first post; essentially, everyone but the two dead cops (sorry guys) won in the end, though Vic Vega/Seol is gonna do some hard time behind bars before the movie comes out, and Eddie Cabot/Mr Stoofer spent the night getting shaken down before getting let go, when Vic didn't squeal.

How angry did the endgame setup (making you wait until you were sure it was safe to leave) make people, especially those on the Town's side? I was trying to reflect the uncertainty/suspicion of a criminal gang versus a
"town" a little more accurately, and compensating for the handicapping of the 'scum'/undercover cops.

My other game that's planned along this theme of crooks-as-town won't have that mechanism because of a different motivation (you'll have to wait and see), but I was curious to get people's feedback about not having the Mod *tell* you when the game was done...
