L O S T

season one


September 22, 2004


Oceanic Flight 815 departed from Sydney, Australia en route to Los Angeles, California. The plane would never make it, though.
Somewhere over the ocean, the plane was suddenly ripped in half after a bad patch of turbulence. The tail half fell into the ocean, and the fuselage crashed on an unknown, deserted island.

It wasn't long before the group of survivors began to band together in order to survive everything the island had to throw at them... but it appears like some of you are not quite as honest as you say you are. Some of you are cutthroat and willing to do anything to get off the island...
including
murder. So when poor school teacher Dr. Leslie Artz is found murdered one night, play time is over.

Maybe you've all survived for a couple weeks on the island, but can you survive each other?

General Rules

Modified, but stolen from dramonic, who stole them from Vi.

1)
Starting and Ending States:
All roles that can communicate at Night may do during pregame. The game will end when one faction has fulfilled its win condition, unless otherwise specified.
2)
Day Procedures:
Each player may discuss the game and cast a single vote at a time against people they want to lynch. Day ends when either the deadline hits or a strict majority of the votes are on one person.
3)
Voting:
Votes should be in
bold
in order for them to count, for instance:
Vote: Bob Dylan
. If you wish to vote for a different player, you
don't
need to unvote. As long as I can tell who you're voting for, I don't care if you abbreviate someone's name when you vote them.
4)
No Lynch:
As an alternative to voting for someone, you may
Vote: No Lynch
, but for it to take effect, enough players must vote No Lynch that it would be impossible to form any other majority.
5)
Deadlines:
D1 deadline will be 2.5 weeks. Every day from then on will have a strict deadline of 2 weeks, unless a ridiculous amount of replacements are needed.
6)
Mass Inactivity:
In an act of pure villainy, I may shorten the deadline if I deem the activity level is unsatisfactory. You will be warned if I want you fellows to pick up the pace.
7)
Deadline Lynches:
If no single player has enough votes for a lynch at the deadline, the result is
No Lynch
and the game proceeds to Night. Deadlines are there for a reason.

8)
Twilight:
After someone receives the majority vote, everyone may still discuss the game, but votes and unvotes will not be considered - the person voted for by the majority will be lynched regardless. Twilight will last until I waltz in and post a death scene (which can be quite short, but never really long)

9)
Night Length and Procedures:
The topic will be locked at Night. If your Role PM specifies that you have a Night Action, you may follow the instructions on that PM to use it. Barring extenuating circumstances, Nights will not last longer than two RL days.
10)
Night Action Resubmission:
If you have to PM a choice to the mod (i.e. the name of someone you want to kill/protect/investigate), you may change your choice at any time during the Night by sending The Mods another PM with the new choice. The most recent choice will be honored.
11)
Night Action Priority:
This game will use natural action resolution, unless otherwise stated by the mod.

12)
Bolding Stuff:
Bolding something is how you get the mod to notice it. It's that simple.
13)
Mod Color:
If The Mods needs to edit your post, it will be done in
green,
bolded. Don't impersonate me, or I'll cut off your thumbs and feed them to you.
14)
Activity, Prods, and Replacements:
You will be prodded if three days have passed since your last post. You will be replaced if you do not post after another 24 hours, or if you need to be prodded three times throughout the game. If you know ahead of time that you will not be able to participate for at least 48 hours, go ahead and announce it in-thread so nobody (such as
the mod
) thinks you're lurking. I reserve the right to blacklist flakers or people who maliciously replace out.
15)
"Last Words" for replacements:
If you request replacement, you may PM me a message that you would like to have passed on to the person who replaces you.
16)
"Bah!" Posts:
If your player slot is killed off, it's probably because people don't want you around. Unless your role specifically states you can keep talking/voting/playing parcheesi with me, you are allowed one informationless "bah" post and then scram til endgame. Special mechanics can of course overlap
17)
Outside Discussion:
Don't discuss this game outside of this thread with anyone unless your Role PM lets you do otherwise.
18)
Post Edition:
Editing or deleting posts is not allowed (and usually not possible). Doublepost with your changes instead.
19)
Mod and PM quoting:
For role PMs, If you quote it, you will be modkilled. You can send me the reformulation (I'm pretty loose with reformulation) and I will tell you if posting it is allowed or if it needs further modifications. If you quote a PM from me, you will be terminated (barring questions about rules or something).
20)
Modkills:
Breaking any of the above three rules (or flagrantly violating Rule 16) will result in you getting modkilled. Modkills can be retroactive. If a living player breaks any of these rules, the day may or may not end, depending on what would disadvantage that player's faction the most. In addition, getting modkilled results in an instant loss for that player, along with my general hatred. In short, follow the rules, don't be a dick.
21)
Small/Invisible text:
You may use smaller text if it amuses you, as long as it's not meant to bypass a rule. As in, no hidden messages or shit like that. I will fuck you up for fucking with my game.

22)
Win Mentality:
Play to win.
23)
Policy:
Have fun. Or else. And remember, it's a game - keep it classy and don't take things personally; everyone's doing what they have to to win.
24)
Setup Design:
You can
try
to outguess the mod, but it's probably pointless. Flavor of the show has nothing to do with the flavor of the game, aside from the characters/mechanics seen in the game (they will match up with S1, but not S2-S6).

Before he can do anything else, you all lift the hefty man (how, I'm not sure) and string him up by his neck. It snaps.

"Holy... shit..."

"I knew that guy. He was a doctor."

Someone else steps forward and takes something out of his pocket.

"Yeah? Well, apparently he was tryin' to kill us."

A gun is waved around in the air.

"Actually... apparently... he DID kill us..."

On the ground near the dead doctor lies an Asian woman. She holds identical medical utensils as him.

"Hey, man, y'all got it all wrong, now! All I wanna do is protect my boy!"

Someone raises an eyebrow. "Yes. And you would do...ANYTHING...to protect him? Including killing the rest of us?"

Michael holds up his hands in defense. "Wait, what!? That's insane! I would never--"

He attempts to defend himself further, but five of you jump him and lynch him too quickly. The last thing he can do before his neck snaps is scream out his boy's name one last time.

Morning breaks again. The mourning is over. However, there are two dead bodies on the ground.

Sawyer, the redneck with a stone heart of gold, lay dead on the ground, a bullet through his head.
And Charlie, the rockstar who only wanted to help, also has a bullet through his head.

It is a grim day indeed.

The five of you immediately decide that chesskid3 looks the most suspicious.

"No, stop! You don't have any idea what you're doing!"

The rest of his cries fall on deaf ears as the old man with the scar is hoisted up. The noose quickly tightens around his neck, and with a SNAP, he is dead.

"Do you think it is over?" asks the Iraqi man. Unfortunately, the only response he gets is a knife through the back, courtesy of the crazy French woman. With his last breath, he whispers... "You..." and then falls to the sand.

Danielle looks over at the final two: Claire & Ethan. Ethan begins backing away nervously. "Claire... come with me... I can protect you... I can..." but he is also cut short as Claire, the sweet little pregnant Australian girl, slices a diagonal slit in his throat. Ethan gurgles on his own blood for a bit before collapsing to the sand.

Danielle walks up and puts a hand on Claire's shoulder. "And now, Claire...we can finally leave this place."

As the two women begin to walk away, a beam of light shoots up into the air far away in the jungle.

I suppose first thing's first - I owe a bit of an apology. I said this game wasn't bastardly - and it really
wasn't
, but I wasn't exactly strictly telling the truth on anything, either. The Mafia Doctor was essentially useless since the only kill that town possessed was a strongman kill, which overruled doctor protection.

In any case, I thought BC shooting dram N3 was just... the worst play ever. Nothing personal BC, but he pretty much drove the idea of a kill on jasonT1981 N1, and then you shoot him? It makes no sense, I tell ya. Neither does preemptively jumping the gun and voting chesskid3 at the start of Day 4, thereby handing scum the win.

dram's tunneling on jenniwren & Ademisk was bad... but to tell you the truth, when I was reading over the thread multiple times, I had to go look at the role PMs to convince myself Ademisk wasn't scum. :S

To be fair, it isn't like scum played a great game either - in the end, this was just a matter of who managed to suck less for just one shining moment. Which is weird, because I think this is some of the most careful play I've seen in a game recently. There were ACTUAL cases, ACTUAL scumhunting, etc.

Here is the deadtopic. Definitely some interesting thoughts in there.

Also, this means that jason/AGar/Dekes get pre-in preference for Lost Season Two mafia (which will be starting within the next couple weeks). After they've all said yes or no, the rest of the players in this game will be given spots on a first-come, first-serve basis. If I could also make a shameless plug, me & dram are co-modding an AWESOMELY swingy and complex Ocarina of Time setup fairly soon, so if you'd like to be a part of that, keep an eye on the queue for signups!
