Georgetown had grown in the last few years, since the death of its founder, Honest George, whose anniversary a group of citizens were remembering with a quiet drink in his honour. Quiet, because the criminals who had killed him were still at large, running the town through puppets while they themselves remained unknown. Could there even be some of them in this very room? With still no clue as to their identity the suspicion had never gone away and even among those who knew each other well it didn't take much for the finger pointing to begin again.

Rules

1. This is a game. Have fun. Play to win but please don’t make personal attacks or use obscene or profane language. Just play your part and help to make the game fun for everyone!

2. Please do not talk about this game outside of the thread unless your role PM permits it, and then only at the stated times.

3. Please do not use invisible or very small text or encryptions. Please do not edit your posts. I will be posting in

green

so please don't use that either (although I'll make an exception for VCAs etc.).

4. All votes must be bolded or use vote tags, and should be on a new line. Unvotes would be nice but are not essential.

5. A simple majority is required to lynch and when this has been reached any further votes/unvotes will be ignored. If deadline is passed before this happens there will be no lynch.

6. After I have announced a lynch or night-kill the dead player must stop posting, apart from one short 'bah' post which must not contain any game-related content.

7. Days will last two weeks and nights will last 72 hours. Any night action sent after the posted deadline will be ignored.

8. Do not quote from any mod communication or QT. You may paraphrase them if you wish, but if you are not sure your wording will be acceptable then you are welcome to check with me first.

9. Any requests/points addressed to me in the thread (including problems with vote counts) should be bolded. If you have any complaints/problems with this game, please send me a PM rather than posting them in the thread.

10. If you know you are going to be unavailable to read the thread for a period of more than 48 hours, or are regularly absent at weekends, please indicate that in thread (and not just in your signature). If it is likely to be a long absence I may have to consider replacement.

11. I will be prodding anyone who does not post for more than 60 hours, without having given prior notification, and will be giving them 24 hours to acknowledge the prod by posting in the thread. If anyone doesn't acknowledge or needs prodding too often I will look for a replacement.

I reserve the right to add to or modify these rules if necessary.

According to this thread the posts lost as a result of the downtime may be retrieved, but it may be "a few days" before that happens. Re your post 2297.

1) I am offended that you think I would show partiality in this way.
2) I had to choose between mod-killing Matias or leaving the game in night until I had found a replacement as I couldn't start the new Day with two slots unfilled. In view of the length of time I had already been looking I decided on the first option and so removed the earliest one to require replacement. Any further discussion of this must wait till the game is over.

Over the past few weeks the citizens numbers had reduced as they attempted to root out the evil among them. Their first two attempts had failed and retribution followed fast as members of their group mysteriously disappeared in the night.

The faces changed over time as some made excuses amd left their deputies to take their places. Others just failed to turn up to meetings and newcomers had to be drafted in.

But then their luck changed and despair turned to hope as one, and then another, of the mafia were tracked down through the painstaking work of the citizens.

Knowing they weren't finished yet their attention turned to two more of their number, eventually taking out the one who seemed just a bit too anxious to prove he was one of them. Unfortunately he was. Could the other one of the pair be the last of the mafia? This time they didn't delay. But were they right?

I think you all did very well both in keeping up, for the most part, and in finding the scum. It was interesting how all three of them were under suspicion from very early on.

Would shorter deadlines have helped or hindered this game? I'm in two minds about this.

That was actually my first planned setup for this game but I was advised it would only have a 17.8% chance of a town win, so I dropped it to three mafia/14 town then added two more town as that was deemed to be more balanced. Discode only became eligible for replacement just before the end of the Day and I added him to my post in the replacement thread when I removed ABR's name from it after the lynch.

I couldn't start the new Day with two players missing as this would have given away the fact that they couldn't both be mafia. The ideal way to deal with it would have been to keep the game in night until a replacement had been found but I thought the wait might have an even worse effect on the game than the modkill.

I did consider taking them both out but I was afraid that if I did, and then had the same problem again, it would affect the balance too much.
