The Basics

1. Day Phase: 8 days. Night Phase 2 days
   
2. 36 hours before prod, 24 hours before replacement.
   
3. I have some unusual rules, please pay special attention to rules 4 5 and 13 in the general rules section.
   
4. I have a "Don't play if you're not having fun" rule. Please avail yourself of it. There's no shame in requesting replacement if you're not enjoying yourself.
   
5. Respect everyone's basic humanity. Do not be an asshole to people. Don't be a racist or sexist or really any other -ist. Respect other players displayed pronouns.

General Rules

1. Have fun. This is not an option. Games are only good when players are having fun. If you are not having fun, replace out. There is no shame in this. I have no problem with it. You are not a bad person. Both you and the game will be happier for it.
   
2. The mod is always right. Always. Yes, even then. However, if you think there’s some confusion, and it absolutely can’t wait until the end of the game, send me a PM; do not break my game because you died when you didn’t think you should’ve.
   
3. Days will continue until one of two things happen: a player is killed or a deadline passes.
   
4. Please do not communicate with the mod in thread. Mod communication should not take place in the game thread. If I feel your question has an answer that the rest of the town needs to know about, I will make a game announcement. If you attempt to claim this is due to a question you asked I will count that as quoting mod communication.
   
5. Do not be toxic in my game. Being toxic is subjective and I am the final say on what that means. If you have a problem with that, don't play my games. But I will forcibly remove players from the game if I feel like they are playing in a way that is insulting or rude to the other players in the game. You don't get to be an asshole just because you're playing a game on the internet.
   
6. Do NOT quote your role PMs, OR any other form of communication from me unless it is something I have already posted on this thread. This is a modkillable offense. Depending on severity of the infraction you might get a warning instead of a modkill. Don't test this. You probably won't. Two warnings is an automatic modkill.
   
7. Do not discuss the game outside of the game thread unless your role allows you to, in which case you may only do it during the specified times and in the specified threads. This is a modkillable offense.
   
8. You’re required to post regularly. I prod after 36 hours of inactivity and replace after 24 hours of no response to the prod. This can be flexible if you PM me in advance.
   
9. Once you’re dead, you’re no longer subject to the previous rule. As a matter of fact, once you’re dead, stop posting. I will permit one simple “bah” post and nothing more.
   
10. In the event of a modkill, it will end the day.
    
11. If a deadline passes without a player receiving the majority of the votes the day will end with no kill.
    
12. The days in this game will last 8 days.
    
13. If you don't get your choices in, your default action is NO ACTION.
    
14. I will be especially harsh on players who are prod dodging. I will count posts with little or no game contact, or a pattern of posts with little or no game content as a prod dodge and will replace you out of my game. I expect activity and I expect everyone to be playing. See rule 1 about replacing out if you are not having fun or do not have the time to play.

Mod note: This game is not confirmed to be bastard, and I don't really think I would classify any game I've ever run as "explicitly bastard." The disclaimer at the beginning of the game (and with all my games going forward) is just meant to make sure people don't play them if they're going to be upset if an unpopular role pops up or if the game isn't designed using standard mafiascum mod meta. Just thought I would clear that up for anyone confused. Basically I don't want players to be able to rule out roles or setup devices in my games ever, and I don't want them to be upset if they are present.

The question is "Is it possible your game has any of the following: cults, mid-game alignment changes, moderator lies that cannot be reasonably anticipated (for example, Godfather, Tailor, Miller, Ninja, and mechanics like that are generally fine. Telling someone they are a reflexive doctor when they're actually a PGO is not), secret win conditions, un-divulged non-randomness in player role/alignment generation, direct moderator influence during the game?"

I answered yes because I refuse to rule out the possibility that my game could contain cults. I've also answered yes in every game I've ever moderated.

By the way my current opinion is that the kazyan wagon is scumdriven, i cannot believe for a second that he is being scumread for trying to organize the thread

Out of all the possible reasons to vote anyone, choosing to vote for busywork is terrible, and the wagon growing so high is opportunistic at best

It makes a lot of sense to me with Ivyeo being the one to bus and his position is really good for it while brave was on the other wagon and Ivyeo could c hange in a snap s notice. I really think Farkran is scum, but I can see it going either way. His claim is just off. I scum read toadette. I'm still unsure about Titus. Same thing with Pooky. The only person here I trust is Chara and if they're not town well then I'd be bamboozled.

Spoiler: Thoughts on the setup

1) In general I'm pretty pleased with how the game played out. I feel like I hit my design goal of giving each faction a roughly 25% chance to win the game. Town did not eliminate very well and they still had an ability to win right until the very end if they had eliminated corrected 1 or 2 more times. The idea of the setup was to give everyone roughly a 25% chance of winning among town rats cats dogs. So if it felt like your individual faction was underpowered thats likely because it was, by design. Giving everyone a fair chance at winning sort of gives everyone a reasonably low chance of winning by default.

2) The kills in this game worked out in a really weird way, which ended up being a super unintended red herring. The fact that scum teams hit the same person repeatedly led to the norm for this game being 2 kills per night instead of the intended 3, which really put the town at a disadvantage for figuring out the game. Obviously this gave scum a huge unintended advantage because it made town not realize the number of scum remaining and I think that influenced the play heavily on day 5 6 and 7. I think if town had known just how many scum were still around at that point (or had been given a reasonable chance to guess based off of NKs) there would have been a very different game down the stretch.

3) That said, there was a level of apathy in this game that I don't think I've encountered before in any games I've modded (including multiball) I don't think town tried very hard, and I think that they had a defeatist attitude of "oh, well, theres lots of scum and we don't have agency" which they used as an excuse and honestly I found that extremely disappointing. The vast majority of wagons in this game were town directed. To the extent that scum did consolidate on people it was generally on other scum players. Town could have easily won this game with just a slight bit more investment and their actions mattered a lot. I am really sad that several town players basically gave up this game, when I think that there were a lot of really obvious scum to go after, and the existence of the other scum in multiball makes those scum wagons easier to achieve, not harder. I don't really know what to do about this except to say that if you hate multiball and think town has no agency you should not play my games. I have a disclaimed in them for a reason. If you are feeling hopeless and you no longer want to play, you should replace out. I have a "please replace out if you are not enjoying the game" rule for a reason.

4) That being said I was very pleased with the ruleset overall. A lot of the rules I implemented for this game (especially the no toxicity rule) were experimental in nature, and I felt like they ended up working out very well. Part of that is a function of the fact that I don't think this is a player list that is naturally inclined to toxicity, but on the few instances where I felt something was approaching the line a brief nudge was all that I needed to stop it. We obviously never got close to removing anyone from the game, and we didn't need to even think about it. So thank you for that. I'm very interested in any feedback people have about the rule set in particular because its something I intend to keep using and refining.

5) Let's touch on the elephant (alien) in the room. I think maybe it was incorrect to make Titus an alien cop specifically. In designing the setup I liked the ambiguity of the role in that it could either be flavor or a faction and sort of gave the town a chance of considering three factions if it flipped, but seeing it in practice I'm not sure I love the effect. It sort of made the claim a touch more dubious than I wanted it to be and derailed the game a little bit more than I wanted in terms of a red herring. I don't think it was awful and it accomplished a lot of the stuff I wanted it too but it kind of feels like "Horse cop" would have accomplished a lot of the same things while giving titus a little more believability and would have derailed the game slightly less. It also is extremely unfortunate that the kills lined up in such a way as to make aliens completely plausible for most of the game, and it kind of felt like a miselim of titus at some point because a foregone conclusion because of the role, which was not really how I had envisioned it in my mind.

6) Speaking of which I want to shout out titus specifically. She replaced in to a slot that many in the game were ready to yeet without a word due to beeboy meta and then had to claim "alien cop" with a straight face which she did and managed to live for several more days after. It was not an easy position she replaced into at all.

It wasn't an excuse for apathy. It was the cause of apathy. In a game where you can execute scum every day and still lose (by a large margin!), correctly identifying town is actively harmful, and town can control about 20% of the total deaths, it's pretty hard to feel like more effort would produce a better result.

Cross killing is part of the balance of the game. Scum factions in multiball should be just as interested in killing scum in the day as town and should be (until they are the strongest/only scum faction) more interested in shooting scum at night.

If you assume that x amount of cross kills happen, the correct play is still to try to eliminate scum during the day and honestly it felt like you werent trying to do that at all and if you had, just tried a LITTLE bit more, town could have won this game.

After I replaced out of the game, I continued to watch it daily. Seriously, this one was a wild ride from start to finish.

The reason I replaced was that I didn't want to deal with all of the emotions that came from hammering a miselim after overinvesting myself in the game--it's something that I'll have to work on as a person. That said, I don't think my continued presence would have changed anything. I'm pretty much automatically /in for the next game that TSQ runs (if any), because I loved watching the plot twists, and the bastardry was entertaining.

Also, regarding town putting more effort...all three scumteams were absolutely diabolical in this game. I'll be disappointed if no Scummies awards come out of this; Cats, Dogs, and Rats all had excellent play from start to finish.

For anyone interested in the history, this game was heavily influenced by pirates vs ninjas, a game run by Mr stoofer probably before anyone in this game was born.

My inspiration was to take the initial idea of three scum teams and a setup that heavily hints at 2 scum teams, especially to the scum themselves and improve upon it from a balance sense.

I thought the issue with the original game was that scum teams all of the same size gave too much advantage to the hidden team, so i wanted to play around with the sizes of the teams in order to fiddle with the power knobs and create roughly similar power levels among the teams despite the disparate sizes. I think we mostly succeeded with that, although maybe the setup was just a scootch too hustle to dogs in particular. I was really happy with the power level of the rats and the cats and the town.

I agree that cross killing is part of the balance. This only proves my point further-- since it's very difficult for town to win without cross kills, our chances to win are highly dependent on things out of our control.

"Tried a little bit more" = "had literally perfect reads"? After N4 it was surely out of our hands. Even if we got scum on D4 it still is 6:4 on D5, and you'll notice that the triple town kill happened because we had people confirmed as town. I do think it would have been better to not use my ability, or lie about my result.

After N4, the dominant strategy is to not die and that means looking like I don't care.

And that's even assuming more effort produces a better result. A 2 person scumteam in a 24 player game is basically town in the amount of information they have. I don't really know what you think more effort would have accomplished.

And fyi, you can defend your design paradigm all you want, but you can't convince me that I had fun when I try to explain why I didn't. You did signal beforehand that you don't like predictable games, so I know it's on me for joining it, but I think my feedback is still valuable. Making sure the players have fun is the top (and arguably only) priority of the game mod, after all.

I disagree with the first part. But more to the point, I agree with the last part. Which is exactly why I have a rule that directly urges players to replace out if they're not having fun. Instead of replacing out you stayed in the game for like 3 days complaining about how you weren't enjoying yourself and werent going to try to play. I fail to see how this is on me as a mod at this point.
