The PT mechanic is the same everywhere, but some people play on mobile or with color schemes that aren't as obvious. If you use mafsilver, for example, the color difference is MUCH less pronounced. Could also be two tab scenario.

this seems pretty angleshooty especially if the game wasn't publicly advertised as such. I think we should take T3's claim as seriously as any other claim given the circumstances.
It WAS advertised as such though. Note Ceph's join date and take this line from the opening of the signup thread:
This game is normalesque in feel and flavor, but can't run in the normal queue for a few reasons which, I think, are all delineated in this post. Roles have some light flavor, but I don't plan on writing a novel during the game.

See, I am talking about the game where he denied me access to my own neighborhood, and rendered my neighborizor ability moot.
Understandable. I was somewhat sad to see my carefully crafted mechanic get no daylight, too.

We won't be pushing to prematurely end this game day. That would be my inclination regardless, but it's also our sync on the matter.

It is indeed an inside joke. Why T3 makes a joke to me is anybody's guess. See Deco (mini normal). He claimed the same thing, never retracted and got eliminated as town. It was a gambit to get scum to claim the role.

~Titus
I think my issue knowing that it's an inside joke is that it's... hm. It feels like something to pull to fit in a bit much, to be SO at ease/casual as town that you throw out a joke to try and get the people who know it to nudge their elbows at you and go "I got you buddy, don't worry." It's like, once is a gambit twice is ""performative.""
But, I like this, and I'm a little squinty-eyed at titus for not having that thought, herself.

Really?

I've not played with Manatee but I got the "pure" vibe from them which like, yeah I know, but it works.

And Luke felt a little stilted on entrance as if he was like "hi I don't know what to say oh wow haha eight pages!" Which like, I expected more panic maybe or frustration given how Tarot went for him as in "oh god stuff is happening what did I miss this time do I get to even have a role." His posting after is better, though.
The entrance was a little stilted, I agree. The content after that I liked.

Do I know you under a different account name?

I am a bit suspicious of these posts coming from Morph, in a "they might be trying to pocket me" kind of vibe

It feels a bit like how Cabd greeted me in this game where he was scum --

I also don't really know what part of my post puts me in a town read, as opposed to like maybe "not scum with Titus" given that this game is multiball
The second post was mine, not Cabd's. Also, one day maybe you'll know how to read my buddying ways.

It bothers me a little to be townread easily, but I also feel like green is oozing out of my fingers all over the keyboard. But, real life is pretty unsettling right now and that may also be oozing onto the keyboard.

The strange thing is that people who should be decent at reading us and somewhat confident they can read us (specifically you and titus) are casting a lot of shade our way. The townreads are coming from players who dont know me well (and I assume don't know Cabd either) or who are alts.

Yeah that was to you

I wouldn't say I want to shade your slot, more I want people to actually observe it. Then I want to see what you do with said observations. It's not going to be a great game if you are given the keys so early on for a negative level lim on T3 (despite Dann's efforts). I think the reads coming from those people are lazy but surprisingly not very naive.
What does 20% power mean here?

Is this out of habit or something you want to replicate due to previous success? I think by now you'd be able to twist drug cabd to make it seem townie

Show me something spontaneous! I guess that's my very minor concern of you so far.
I mean enhanced legal substances (First time was opioid painkiller, second time liquor) are explicitly responsible for Xenoblade and Tarot. And I'd argue those ended pretty well for me? I'm not like, saying i'd go out of my way to dose myself just to tryhard a mafia game, but if i'm gonna be drugged anyways? Hell yeahs i'm gonna spot after my surgery on the 28th.

At two places in the OP, it is sort of implied there might not be VT's whatsoever. Then the sample VT role pm does not any flavor.

The discernable reader might figure out whether this game has vanilla towns or not

That's nearly as crazy as two separate VTs fakeclaiming cop and forcing the town masons out on day one of a newbie game with zero pressure on any of themselves.

Also, Luke, you're not used to the "Morph finds a new shiny and decides to polish it" thing and we get that, but we're not gonna stop.

More to the point, you're used to both heads of this hydra but NOT the combined mindmeld shit that happens when we keep our arms and legs inside the zebra at all times while the ride is in motion.

I felt like me and ffery were able to find each other pretty nicely in the Guardians of the Galaxy game to the point that it felt like we were almost a masonry (even with out own chats in spoiler tags). But the progression we had to get there felt genuine, and my immediate reaction is that your collective opening interactions with me this game felt different from that one, and closer to your (Cabd's) opening interactions with me on that Newbie game.

I am not locking you guys as scum, I am just wary of you right now.
This is fair and we will grant you an additional five pages to come to the light.

Stuff has happened since then, including my watching you play your first scum game here in a newbie game I modded, AND watching your town play evolve in a few games as well,

You're quite town enough for now.

And I'd probably be scratching some hives if you weren't wary.

There are 20 morphgames out there, and we've had our share of scum roles if you want a research project on how we play different alignments as a hydra.

This is in no way an accurate recount of my recent take
What would you say it is then?
None of what I said about Morph hinged on my own read of the slot. I was talking about
their
read on
me

In my last game with ffery, we were both town and eventually ended up with a strong mutual town read on one another, but that happened fairly slowly, and her reaching that town read on me felt more genuine when compared to how quickly they jumped to having a town read on me this game. -- If anything, I am unsure what I could have done in post to result in both heads apparently reaching a town read on me simultaneously (see post )

I also felt like some of the ways that they approached talking to me resembled how Cabd reached out to me Day 1 of our recent newbie game together, where he was scum.
Do you know what slowed my read of you down in that game? It was partly a slowdown of expressing the read, and partly the tension of feeling like we were competing to go to the Keep and there was only one space left in the Keep at that time. That sense of competition for the Keep was mostly in my head, I think.

Anyway, I'm not playing in absinthe headspace here. I'm probably closer to playing in fferyllt headspace because in morph our playstyles mesh almost seamlessly -- as you noticed when we both posted a nascent townread of you within about 2 posts of each other.

That doesn't make sense, and is a weak read at best (*not that I necessarily disagree).
Pooky would engage us more here I think. We are a overall, universal scum read from the reads lists/posts that I've seen(peta, morph?, ka-something, and a vote from t3?)
I think pooky would not agree with that read/would be curious about it because that is his personality.
he would then test us in his fun playful reads but I dont see that here.

I was put off by your post stating that scumreading you would be a scumclaim, or however you put it.

Is that meta-based or if it's purely this-game-based.

I specifically said it was a scum claim for morph(you) and pooky.
I expect better reads from you and I dont think that is unreasonable given your track record.
I said that scum reading us was a scum claim but what I meant was scum reading for long periods of time. I dont expect either to be perfect. this is a game. every player has highs and lows both in games and throughout all their games. however, a scum read that stays from either you or pooky I do believe is a scum claim/werewolf claim.

pooky specifically is someone that is very sensitive to emotions in posts. he is very sensitive to lies and how people are reacting. he loves to playfully test people and is curious like no other player on mafiascum. I believe that he, if town, would be interested in testing us because of how fast we picked up scum reads. and as a scum read that isnt the main scum read, that should add to his curiosity in my opinion because often times scum is in the people that get heat but never get run up. that should pique his interest I think. one could say we have lurked and stayed away from most of the discussion on scummy players. what is there not to be curious about about us?

as for you, your track record tells me that you shouldn't scum read us for long lengths of time because we are town, have no agenda, and are somewhat actively trying to contribute to discussions that are moving this game forward.

-Mister Ocean
Thanks for explaining that.

It read like a preemptive "don't you dare scumread me" to me, which I didn't take very well.

If you're doing town things, I hope I'll see it. I have a tendency to tunnel, but it's less pronounced with a hydra partner.

This seems to check out. Why'd you leave out the "Townie" at the end when claiming your role? It seems to be called Hirsute Townie, whereas Miller is just Miller.

This makes me suspect that perhaps your role said "Hirsute Mafia" and you assumed that it was like the miller and you only claimed the first part.

The best part about this convo is that it'll target Spay in the splash damage as she was on the outside looking in.

Interesting if that's an actual thought you have.

I feel like I should be able to read you better (and work with you if you're town) and for that reason I've got you and pooky both at the top of the list of players who didn't make it into my townlist I posted earlier. I want to figure you out, and if I come down thinking you're town I want to try to hash out reads with you toDay.

I hate posts like these. It's easy to set up an OMGUS. It also requires me to be confident in my day one reads. It was mostly town that did this ironically but that type of posting sets off my alarm bells. See Townstumps mafia, mastina and jjh.

I'm not holding it against you because of what I have seen but it's hard to stop my inner beast if that makes sense.
It's been several years since town-you has misread me right off the bat like this game. Unless you were scumreading Sangres from the start in W13 and just didn't mention it until late day 1. And I don't think that was the case. Your focus was elsewhere in the early game.

Unwnd making this post was when I started to seriously scumread him because it’s tongue in cheek back at me given I often roll scum when he’s town.

He’s writing a lot of words but they feel stilted and lack the elegance I expect of unwnd’s progressions as town. He’s trying to emulate it but missing the mark.
His posts in Guardians were full of fog. I don't get that feel from them here. I'm just not getting a townfeel either.

Petapan, Morph the Cat, Kakeguri, Lukewarm. You know the people I was talking about being deliberate/meaningful. I respect their aptitude but it's not clicking here. Is this the fault with me or is it just multiball/D1 jitters where you can't really produce a coherent list given that you have a lot of fucking distancing going on. I'm not ready to trust given there are two factions that could try to kill me and the last multiball game I ended up with two shots in the chest. Lucky me.

I think if I were to seperate these 4 however in terms of readability over time it'd be something like Lukewarm -> Kakeguri -> Morph -> Peta. Peta takes great pride in his scumgame and likes trying different shit out. Morph probably is flexible as well. I like their content but that doesn't equate to trust. If you're tired of hearing me throw that word around get used to it. I think the terminology Cabd enjoys using is a pass. I would maybe given Peta/Morph a pass beyond D1 but that's likely guaranteed because they are not scum that dies D1. My efforts are more focused on killing low equity wolves/mafia and then seeing how potential bigshots who are aligned with them react to it.

I think right now Whemey is scum. Gut feelings resided by his chauvinistic behavior. Whemey is not exactly the knight who leads a bunch of mercenaries into battle for a noble cause. He's more of a self-proclaimed hero who tries to rout out evil when he sees it. Yet why was he was operating differently and trying to get people to join his cause? And on who exactly? T3? The person who is ubiquitously scumread by almost everyone? That doesn't seem very noble or townie to me. It all feels like poor acting and I fault Morph a bit for saying they liked his energy. Energy is the easiest emotion to fake and I would even say his energy is excessive. We agree to disagree unless my points compel you to think otherwise. It's not a masterstroke of a read but I'm not expecting to get great hits on D1. This is why I'm OK with killing off T3/Dannflor still because T3 was playing at low equity and that is where my priorities lie.
Unwnd I think you were missing on what I was trying to do
What was that exactly?
Less so trying to defend t3 more so trying to call out morph for lying about a T3 scumread
|

They..lied about it? Did I miss where you made this clear? Feel free to reiterate
Sorry bad way to explain it.
More like ffery has a slef exclaimed great t3 meta read and I did too. I thought t3 was fitting what I thought of town t3 perfectly here so it didn’t make sense for town morph to vote him at all. Then when I did research into it my meta read on him wasn’t as good as I thought
It wasn't really a meta read except inasmuch as every read I develop takes into account what I know about the player from other games. My concerns are very much grounded in T3's play in this game.

I like the reads the shots suggest. There's a little more going on the read but I'm not feeling very wordsy atm.

Even more than two-faction games, the brownian movement is jumpy and I start thinking I'm seeing patterns in it all.

Explain this to me so that I believe you mean it and as if I've never played masons and monks.
I've been hoping that Cabd would get a chance to answer this since you're asking about one of his posts.

But, I hate unanswered questions so I'll give you my take on it.

First, I don't generally advocate auto-elimming miller claims, and tend to view them as all-but-named townies unless the player has an egregious history of fakeclaiming, so that's not a thing that would have occurred to me so early in the game.

The kinds of parallels Cabd and I are worried about, and which the different sorts of "will investigate as guilty" suggest could be in play are this: in monks and masons although you can get info that will clear some players of being a particular alignment due to the type of neighborhood (monkery for town-mafia or masonry for town-werewolf) they belong to, nobody gets fully cleared mechanically (except I think there's a corner case in a revised version of the setup where a town player could wind randed into both the masonry and the monkery)*.

Here, the millers seem to fill a similar function, though less thoroughly, and I'm certain Ceph took into account the likelihood that miller-ish roles would claim in their first few posts. They claim. whatever role can investigate those claims decides whether to burn a night action on them, etc.

Anyway, I doubt this gives any real window into why Cabd felt like such claims needed to be yeeted on page 5 or 6. It's probably to do with thinking that mafia or werewolf teams could have players that investigate as the opposite, and being concerned they get auto-townbinned for claiming their miller-like status or avoided by all alignment investigations rather than just the one they say they'll be guilty to.

They stand up in relatively clear, still water, with few ripples to show how they got there. It's a very observational style of play.

Not sure you got the meaning of squinty eyes. Yours, squinting in suspicion.

Have you played with him much?

I meta'd him recently. I feel like he's doing these game-health-maintenance posts and from the meta that's more of a town thing with him. He feels relaxed and sort of floating above the game in some ways. He sticks more of an oar in as scum.

Not a lot of recent experience with him, and he's matured incredibly as a player since way back when.

Fuck mechrole comparisons. Mech role comparisons lost me that large normal. Play and intent matters 150% more.

That isn't to say others are not townreads of mine, but that uppermost tier is devoted to town.
