I think the way it worked was that each mod put in four roles, but not all four would be selected as 17 out of 24 were randomly picked. It's possible that your role might have interacted well with another role that by circumstance isn't in the game?

The way I see it, it's highly likely that the mods who submitted roles put in themes for each of their roles, like they put in all millers, or all roles that only do things when they die, and so on, so a massclaim might reveal these trends and break the setup or at least force scum into a really awful position.

Also it sounds like a few of our roles fucking suck so there's probably less downside to claiming than normal?

Now KKFC was saying either one of two things:

1. That when they read the sample PM in the OP, the entire post was using the ooc tag, not only the PM. Therefore they thought that the actual PM would be white/green (this is basically a scum claim).
   
2. The more likely option, that when they received their PM it had the ooc tag, and for a second they thought they were scum then realized it's just the ooc tag rather than indicative of alignment. However this is not a good defense of what Aureal had been saying about Alisae.

My role PM is colorless. My impression is that Alisae thought she had a red PM, then realized it was not red and rather the red text she had been seeing was in this thread. I didn't see anything inherently scum about this, but I think Aureal is a good player, and thus there's probably an argument or post that I'm missing.

It occurs to me only now I've made a mistake in promoting massclaim; I'm beginning to suspect the scum have access to a list of all the roles not used as fakeclaims. I don't think the listmods submitted roles providing nearly no benefit to scum as exclusively the pool of scum roles. The scum roles I'd expect would be roles providing tangible benefit to scum, yet not explicitly only scum. (Think roleblocker, rolecop. Arson fits this as an example. Most claims don't.)

The case you're describing (where scum has a massive amount of extra setup information to the tune of 7 potential roles) actually gives us more incentive to claim. Scum would be able to guess the rough shape of the opposing forces from the unused roles, but we would be playing largely in the dark. Doing this forces them to commit to fakeclaims before their knowledge base becomes even larger than it already is in that case.

The downside is almost certainly in the potential for redirection style roles if it exists, where our investigations and vigs can be sent to twiddle their thumbs in uselessness and shame.

I also doubt we were going to win a setup where scum have a list of possible town roles.

The way I see it either I get miselim'd pretty fast, which is probably good because on average town was more truthful than scum when claiming roles, so it's not like town loses anything other than a warm body,
or I'm kept alive until endgame since I'm a terrible slot for a NK, at which point the game would probably be solved mechanically.

Forget a complex, weird role that does wild stuff, this is a role that is worse than bog standard cop. It is worse than even ONE-SHOT cop because at least that cop is guaranteed the one shot as long as they stay alive. This is simply not a role that matches ANYONE ELSE'S role in the game. Every single other role has common elements with another role and actually does something unusual. He denies it looks scummy NOW but he had something different to say in the moment:

There's some roles with randomness, and some roles with negative utility, but this is a really weird and unique (in this game, I think unique is a pretty good indicator of fake) way to gate an ability and makes me think that DE is not telling the truth with his role.

Simplifying it I suppose can make it easier to figure out? But concretely, town powers being used leads to pro-town outcomes, and we're tossing away the opportunity to get these pro-town outcomes by locking players to the Amway.

I think I need to recalibrate what is going on this game.

Like I've basically been operating this game under the assumption that Koba's case on Aureal wasn't that good, but I guess considering Aureal got to E-1 there were a decent amount of people who agreed (or independently though Aureal was scummy). Honestly I would like to apologize for being a drag on town in a sense bc I definitely haven't been reading a lot of stuff just because it made my eyes glaze (Sorry koba I genuinely do not mean offense, it's just the way things go for me in large games sometimes).

Do scum roles like Aureal's show up often? I do not know enough about forum mafia to know this. This is a game where people can submit pretty crazy roles though. Personally my initial thought during the massclaim was that a MLM scum role was a little on the nose. Like even the arsonist role I was willing to be like "ok this is normally pretty scummy but we are dealing with very different roles here".

You could test if someone used it by trying to recruit them again (in theory, this should work as they will no longer be part of Amway)
