things to like about the website

  • foeing
  • finding a new hidden and arcane piece of bbcode from another veteran user after you've been on the site for like 5 years. like thumb or table
  • subforums
  • pagetops
  • the added visibility granted by pagetops because a lot of the time you have to just click through pages of the thread to find something
  • empty posts made to try to put something on a pagetop
  • deleting the empty posts when you're the mod in a mafia thread in order to reclaim the pagetop from someone who stole it
  • the fact that i used to be so mad that you couldn't change it from 25 posts per page and found that so tedious when i started and it wasn't until like very recently that i would say i've gotten used to it
  • private topics, adding people to private topics before you click preview and seeing you have to do it again
  • adding people to private topics. sorry this should be its own sincere bullet point. its like You get to be in on this
  • adding listmods to "users that can
    moderate
this topic" even though i think they automatically get mod privileges in private topics
  • i think that the site update added the ability to add moderators to any old topic too. that's fun
  • yup and those go away when you hit preview
  • "uh this is nearly unreadable on mafsilver"
  • threads where the joke is essentially made by the title of the thread, sorta like those reductress articles where it says "oops the joke was just in the headline and there's nothing else here." except you'll find 4 to 5 people farting around in the thread body. and ythan
  • threads that people make and then lock instantly
  • "uh this is nearly unreadable on mafsepia"
  • the way that there's this person called noraaa who has been gone for more than 10 years, and yet whose phrase "i like tv shows maybe too much" is occasionally reanimated. and other such cases
  • people who have threads like that but then they come back to the site. another ythan trait
  • the way that there's this person called Noraa who showed up like 9 years after noraaa. whats up with that. prequel user
  • "uh this is nearly unreadable on"- oh right. lol. good riddance honestly. I didnt say that
  • whatever the hell scuMobile was
  • mith showing up
  • games that die in signup hell because they're just an extremely silly and indulgent idea that really only appeals to the mod
  • haha please join my large theme
  • long running series of theme games. Right guys?
  • signatures Obviously
  • avatars Obviously
  • the interests and occupation fields, slightly less obviously but still obviously
  • they're like little easter eggs but for people
  • people resurfacing in general
  • he has to come back. i know he will. i will make 5,000 more walruses in hopes that he shows up to one of them like jay gatsby
  • the people who put those quotes in their sig like "wow omg this person is so good at scum" or like "wow this person is so bad at scum" or like "you are a horrendous stain of dogshit and i hope you never win or enjoy a mafia game as long as you remain on the site" (from 2013)
  • people making a comment that is generally a breach of social etiquette but is also constructive to the conversation, and all of those nuances are made more ambiguous by the fact that it's a web forum
  • people making a comment that is unconstructive and cruel and is also typical and in accordance with social ettiquette. but because you can't hear the handful of people that chuckled at it, it's much easier for someone to step in and be like "hey, that fucking sucked." Yes i am autistic and yes i joined this site while i was in high school
  • the feeling of making a thread in speakeasy. which i am nobly denying myself here
  • the financial advice? i guess
  • the meets or whatever
  • people getting married or whatever
  • people seeing people be transgender and saying "oh i could be transgender too"
  • relatedly (although not necessarily, i think) i am really happy that there seems to be a phenomenon of listing "he or she" as a pronoun here which is not something i've observed as particularly common in other places. idk if it's actually more common than i think it is or if there's just a bunch of people that see other people doing it and think "ah that's cool, i think it works for me"
  • finding out somebody is/isn't a mod because you're like "your username didnt used to be that color"
  • anix
  • the user tag
  • the back room with peeling wallpaper where all the former site chat mods hang out and wearily share cigarettes
  • francisco lindor
  • robert pattinson
  • polls
  • :shifty:
  • nested quotes
  • nested areas (new feature!) (it seems to automatically make the text size bigger)
  • floating
    areas
  • the pristine penthouse with velour carpet where the former administrators giddily share ketamine. or whatever zor's bringing i guess
  • the thing where zoraster would sometimes just show up with a new bbcode tag he made just for something
  • ok i just remembered about the supp winners subforum. LOL. i'd like to think you're all straightedge in there
  • the secret tags s***g** and s**p******. if you know them you know them. i don't even have the second one right and i don't know if it still exists or works outside of the hive or if i even have the concept right
  • HURT WITH A BLADE: anybody remember hurt2
  • high effort posting
  • and the low
  • and the mid effort bulk of the posting
  • and the post-effort mid of the bulking
  • and they dont st
  • friending
  • at some point you have to admit that the anime avatars add a little bit of character

i indirectly had a go at showing this in the OP but composing statements about zoraster is enduringly some of the greatest fun to be had with language
