Game Mechanics

Day

• Days begin with a deadline of
  144 hours
  (6 days).
  
• Days will end when one of the following events occurs:
  • The deadline is reached.
    
  • A cancel (or no-cancel) is achieved.
    
  • A town-aligned player is modkilled.
• Votes should be made via the vote tag: “[vote]<playername>[/vote]” or “[v]<playername>[/v]”. Full player names or initial segments thereof are preferred.
  
• When more than half of living players are voting for the same player, that player will be canceled and the day will end. Votes are irrevocable once a majority is achieved.
  
• You may vote not to cancel anyone by voting for “No Cancel”. When half or more of living players do so, the day will end without a cancel.
  
• If the day reaches deadline without a majority, there will be no cancel.
  
• I will interpret malformed votes according to my own discretion. In general, if it looks like a vote, I will probably count it as a vote. I reserve the right to edit malformed votes for easier counting.
  
• When a majority vote has been achieved but not yet recognized by the moderator, the game is in
  twilight
  . Players, including the canceled player, may continue to post during this period.
  
• Under certain circumstances I may elect to extend the deadline. I will announce this in thread if it occurs.

Night

• Nights will last
  24 hours
  , or until all living players give me their approval to end the night early.
  
• During the night, you should be unable to post in the public game thread. If for some reason you are able, doing so is still against the rules.

@Mod: Any chance you'd consider cutting down the prod times? I thought about this and someone could technically post twice in one day phase and get away without a prod. Since we're splitting the "normal" day times to 6 days. Can we compromise on a 36 hour prod limit rather than the standard 48?

36 hours seems reasonable to me, I can start doing this.

I also think that this game started at a bad time (4th of July) which isn't helping anyone either but it's starting to worry me.

I would be open to considering an extension of this phase due to starting on a holiday weekend if one is requested closer to deadline.

MOD, If a player were Mafia and needed to reply to a prod, how would it work if they replied to it during the night?

Prods are given based solely on a player's participation (or lack thereof) in the main game thread. Consequently, picking up your prod necessitates participation in the main game thread. While some moderators will allow a PM to circumvent this in the event the prod-timer overlaps with a night phase, I opt to extend the prod-timer into the following day phase instead.

Can I ask, what happens if we're in a complete deadlock? like as a town we can't decide on someone to cancel and so don't cancel anyone and then if Mafia refuse to kill in the night? like what happens if that cycle continues over and over? this is probably a

Different mods would probably have different ways of handling this situation (it doesn't come up very often).

Personally, I'm a big fan of "Rocks fall, everyone dies."

More seriously, in the case of a true deadlock (Town no-cancels, then scum no-kills, or vice-versa), I would put the onus to end the deadlock on whichever faction started it.

So if town no-canceled first, then scum no-killed, the next day phase would not end until a cancel was achieved.

If scum no-killed first, then town no-canceled, then scum would be required to submit a kill the next night.

@Mod: Can you confirm that Porkens' plan would work? If we decide to no cancel today and scum did no kill yesterday, then would scum be forced to kill tomorrow night? What would happen if they still decided not to?

If this is the case, I'm willing to just do it in order to alleviate doubt under the condition that I am the protection and no one else.

I won't weigh in on anyone's specific "plans." I can confirm that if both factions consecutively opt out of their factional cancel/kills, the game will be designated "deadlocked" which will disallow a third consecutive phase of doing so.

There is no functional difference between what I did and Happily Ever After. If you use HEE (basically threatening to end the game if the deadlock doesn't end), you still have to come up with a rule for

when

HEE goes into effect. Does it go into effect after two deadlocked phases? Five? Nineteen? Whatever the number is, players will be able to use it to count back and figure out if a kill was stopped or not. (Unless you arbitrarily end the game via HEE without warning, which seems objectively worse in every way to me).
