So you connect to others thru Steam friends list? One hosts I assume?

Its a little harder than that. It doent have any of the connectivity via Steam that games like TF2 has.

To play online with a friend, one has to forward the correct port (31337 if I remember correctly) then start a server. You then have to launch another instance of the game and connect to yourself (localhost, 127.0.0.1, or your private IP address) while your friends connect to your Public IP Address

This isn't Minecraft. This is Terraria. Where Minecraft is a giant box of legos with the occasional zombie, this is a full-fledged Adventure that spans from the depths of Hell to the peaks of heaven and everywhere in between. Monsters spawn both day and night, corruption spreads across the land tainting the very soil, at night the zombies come to try and break down your fortification, and NPCs will gladly offer their services if you build them a place to stay. This is an altogether different beast from Notch's pet project.

Yesterday we mentioned the launch of a little-known game called Terraria. It appeared on Steam with no marketing campaign, and no real build up beyond a link on Twitter from Minecraft creator notch. Right now, it’s the sixth most played game on Steam, ahead of Portal 2 and Team Fortress 2, and is the second best selling game on Steam

Kill eye/EoW a few times
Explore the underworld (damn fire imps)
Explore dungeon

Soo I built a little wood house in the single player learning stuff part.

Then it got to night and zombies opened the doors letting the eyeballs in and I died over and over.

Its been a long time since I've felt lost in a game. Its a nice feeling.

this is actually the reason I've avoided joining the MS server. I got Terraria on Day 1, and played with a friend so we could learn the game together. Then one of his friends who had pirated the game joined our server, did pretty much everything, and kept giving us stuff. Before the day was over, I had full necro armor, a grappling hook, and a Ball O' Hurt, and I had never gotten to Grey Wall depth or even destroyed a Shadow Orb. Pretty much ruined the game for me.

Yeah, its better to find stuff on your own, it gives you a feeling of accomplishment.

It was a combination of that and "I have all this shit and I still dont know how to play this damn game, wtf is a shadow orb"

I would but I'm pretty sporadic in the time and way I play. I started today going "Ok, today I will mine SO MUCH FUCKING GOLD" then wound up spending all day destroying my floating islands

I'd be down to do that, Claus. Chronopie pretty much raped the MS.net world.

All I brought with me was a Horseshoe, Balloon, Cloud, Grappling Hook, and a Mirror. (And the bricks for my house. and the Hellforge.)

That's a fucking lot. I've been playing in SP for 3 days and all I have is a cloud and a balloon, I haven't had enough hooks for a grapple since Terraria came out, and I've never even seen a magic mirror or a hellforge in my entire Terraria career. Further, based on the logs you posted in this thread, you pretty much did everything on the server that one can do. So yes, you raped the MS.net server. Saying you gave stuff to forum members doesn't fix anything, as that's not the point of the game.

He USED to chase you back home, but they patched that out.

Now, if you try

"The Eater of Worlds has been Defeated" and you get no phat lootz. And it doesn't

count as defeating him.

I hear any wall counts as a home wall now, including dirt ones, so you can make houses underground alot easier.

Placed walls. Means you have to dig it out then place your own dirt walls

I think it's the EoW that spawns after breaking three orbs.

I never said 3 orbs. It used to be at random after destroying your first orb, but now they've changed it to goblin army

Potion sickness doesn't last that long. If you take 200 damage before potion sickness wears off you need to work on your dodging
