It's not about being serious too soon, it's about being too serious about people that are still joking around. I think there is a difference in the way people play at the start that makes it much harder to get a serious read so voting right off the bat is not a good idea.

@JJ: Elaborate: Why is active lurking an unreliable scumtell?

1. From my own experience it doesn't work often(or ever for me). But of course that could be because I haven't played many games.
2. There are probably more active lurkers than you are aware of since you are able to block your name from appearing who is online. If I wanted to active lurk easily I could have just said I was away and it would have been really easy.
3. Example from my previous game: RBT, he active lurked while we were telling him to claim and he was making it pretty obvious that he was lurking.
4. You can avoid it pretty easily after you learn that people are aware of it.

Is this a rhetorical question because I already know what you are going to say either way. The part where I voted for xvart was a start where I actually thought about the game. Of course I probably didn't post all I wanted to say at the time but I'm not so suspicious of him anymore. But by your standards I guess I don't have any content.

When I was doing a reread a few days ago he was the only one that really caught my attention. Specifically the first thing I noticed were his first two posts. In post #0 he says that pieman deserves to die because of the way he talks and then in post #1 he seems to agree with xvart about him having a post restriction and yet he continues to vote for pieman. Later in post #4 he changes his vote to me and says my ideas are dangerous even though pieman was arguing for it more. I would have thought that would have made him keep his vote on pieman. Notice that my point here is not to distance myself from those ideas but to point out the inconsistencies of screl.

I've got plenty to counter your arguments however I don't think it would be a good use of my time if it can be avoided because it always opens up long debates. On a list of most useful people xvart would probably be near the top while piraka being dead last. It's a pretty safe assumption if you consider the alternative of 2 mafia kills a day.

Yes I am willing to take that risk. You have provided some decent questions but there is still something very weird to me about your posts. But I'm still voting you mostly by chance because I don't see any good leads and I think a semi-random(because of my hunch) guess will catch scum more likely than speculation. Yeah I may be shooting myself in the foot by saying this stuff but I probably wouldn't post anything otherwise. Also scum often turn out to be the person you suspect least.

I already admitted to being lazy. In a way this situation is pretty similar to a gambler's fallacy except in this case there are people trying to get you to pick the wrong choice which makes it more likely that we pick the wrong choice. It's not quite the same thing and I wouldn't be voting the way I am if it was. The last part is pure bull crap assumption on your part. @JJ: Questions that might seem pointless to you. They actually serve a distinct purpose. One is getting people to act in a pro town way since, I'll admit it, we seem to be in a somewhat inexperienced crowd that's done a few silly, but not necessarily scummy things. Post 76, while a little hostile, is still my opinion of everyone who jumped on my wagon. Wagon analysis is the most concrete info you get in this game. Your vote was scummy. DEAL WITH IT. You do realize that a cop coming out with a guilty on a townie is effectively a FREE MISLYNCH for scum, right? And that scum would VERY eagerly push that mislynch, and then hide in the crowd when the flip happens. What ELSE am I supposed to assume from the most suspicious vote on the wagon.

Posts 530 seemed like it was really forced and unnecessarily pessimistic. "Now we have no clue of sanity." That part especially made you stick out. I was expecting his role to be fully revealed upon death and what you said made it seem like quite a stretch to try to lead us in the wrong direction.

Post 541 generic answer that would probably be really unlikely.
