Mini 1099: The Prisoner Mafia. Game Over.

Post Post #0 (isolation #0) » Tue Dec 14, 2010 6:33 am

Post by Zorblag »

It’s morning again in the Village and you’re just starting to go about your daily routine when the following announcement comes on over the PA system:
The Village PA system wrote:Good morning! We’re pleased to report that the weather is scheduled to be mild and pleasant for the day here at the Village, your home away from home!

Everyone should note that the regular weekly concert that was previously scheduled for 1:00 this afternoon in the Village square has unfortunately had to be canceled for this week. We know that all the music lovers in our midst will be most pleased to hear that it will be taking place next week as usual. In it’s place this week a gallows has been constructed in front of the Village Council Building. All civic-minded citizens should now gather there for a very special event.

Your democratically elected Village Council has determined that a number of your fellow Villagers have been acting in a disharmonious fashion which attempts to undermine our community from within. They have rightfully declared Number Two and a cadre of his subordinates unmutual and decreed that they must be found and brought to justice. Further, this must be done quickly so that all can see that such behavior, so antithetical to your Village’s vital social principles ,will be dealt with in a manner befitting the seriousness of its transgression.

It is the duty of all Villagers to root out Number Two and his co-conspirators before they can do any more harm to the community. They have taken to hiding among you so you must now discern which of your apparent fellow villagers are actually reactionary rebels here to sow unrest. Everyone is encourage to exercise all due vigilance in finding and bringing to justice these vile miscreants.

Remember, questions are a burden to other. Answers are a prison for oneself. Every good member of the community should now act without hesitation. Identify those who are threats to the Village and eliminate them. Once the unmutuals have been removed the Village can return to it’s normal state of tranquility.
As everyone gathers at the main plaza a runner arrives from the Green Dome where Number Two can normally be found this early in the day to confirm that it is in fact deserted. Apparently the Village Administrators really are missing and presumably among you to be hunted, found and lynched.

This is the most exciting news you’ve had in months!

After all you’ve gone through since arriving here you know that this is a hollow mockery of justice, but given what you’ve seen in the time you’ve spent in the Village you’ll take a hollow mockery over no justice at all. It’s time to find Number Two and his cronies and string them up while you’re being given the chance to!

Still in the Village

The Rufflig, Number 33, Paranoid Explosives Setting Serial Killer, exploded himself in endgame and won.

No longer in the Village

EtherealCookie, Number 81, Village Resident, was lynched day one.

Fate, Number 30, Village Resident Mason, was disappeared night one.

Zang, Number 69, Village Resident, was garroted night one.

Plum, Rover, Village Administrator Jailkeeper, was lynched day two.

chesskid3, Number 143, Village Resident, was disappeared night two.

Sotty7 (replaces Ojanen), The Supervisor, Village Administrator Watcher, was garroted night two.

Nachomamma8, Number 2, Village Administrator Rolecop, was lynched day three.

Camn (replaces Hiraki), Number 41, Village Resident Mason, was garroted night three.

populartajo, Number 129, 2-Shot Bulletproof Village Resident, was lynched day four.

Jack, Number 51, Village Resident, was exploded in endgame.

SpyreX, Number 29, Village Resident, was exploded in endgame.

Vote Count

The numbers by the voters indicate the order in which the vote was cast. If two or more players are tied for the most votes to lynch at the deadline the tiebreaker will be the player who has the earliest active vote.

Not Voting: Jack, populartajo, Spyrex, The Rufflig

With 4 players alive it takes 3 votes to lynch. Currently no one would be lynched at deadline. Deadline is 3:00 PM EST/12:00 PM PST on Tuesday, February 1st. Countdown timer.

Game Rules (modified from Vel-Rahn Koon’s rules):

General Gameplay and Etiquette:

  1. You may not quote private Moderator-supplied information (either real or fabricated) of any kind. Paraphrasing (for role claims, etc.) is acceptable.
  2. There is to be NO personal communication outside of the forum postings unless your role PM specifically allows it. Players who can communicate outside of the forum postings may communicate at night and during the confirmation stage.
  3. No heavy use of ciphers or encryption is allowed. If you're not sure whether something counts you should ask the Moderator before using it.
  4. If you have a role with a Night action your choices are due to me by the posted deadline. If I do not receive your choice via PM by the posted deadline you will forfeit your actions.
  5. Roles with Night actions will not be able to submit an action on Night 0 (i.e. during the confirmation stage).
  6. Any player with a Night action may instead submit a “No Action” PM to let the Mod know that you do not want to perform your expected action that Night phase.
  7. As a general rule you should aim for one post every 48 hours, minimum, to keep the game moving.
Voting, Deadlines, and Player Death:

  1. A simple majority of all living members must agree on one person for a lynch to occur
  2. Once you have reached a simple majority no further unvoting will change someone’s fate.
  3. Once a player is lynched the game enters twilight until I post a death scene; all players including the one who was lynched may continue to post during twilight.
  4. Please submit votes as either VOTE: PlayerName or
    Vote: PlayerName
    .
Votes will NOT be counted if they are not bold! Obvious abbreviations or nicknames will be counted so long as they are unambiguous.
Note that the vote tags formats votes correctly and are encouraged.
  5. Please submit vote revocations as either UNVOTE: PlayerName or
    Unvote: PlayerName
    or
    Unvote
. Unvotes are not necessary before changing votes. Again, note that the unvote tags format this correctly and are encouraged.
  6. You may VOTE: No Lynch - if at least half of the players are voting for No Lynch at any point the day will end in a No Lynch. Otherwise the no lynch votes are just like any other.
  7. This game will have a three week deadline for the first day (due to probably schedule irregularities) and then two week deadlines after that. At deadline, the player (or No Lynch) with the most votes will be lynched. In the case of a tie, the tie breaker will be the player who has the first active vote on them. Should there be no active votes at deadline no one will be lynched.
  8. Once a player is lynched the game enters twilight until I post a death scene; all players including the one who was lynched may continue to post during twilight.
  9. Once you are killed (either via lynch or night kill) you may no longer post. This means that you do not even get a “Bah” post. The dead in this game are silent.
Miscellaneous/Mechanics:

  1. Green
text is reserved for the Mod. No invisible/small text is allowed.
  2. If you have an issue/problem with the game, please PM the Mod privately. Do not post issues/complaints in the game thread.
  3. The Mod may make mistakes - please point out any mistakes gently. Mistakes will be corrected where possible, but sometimes mistakes are made that cannot be reversed. These will stand as final to be commiserated over after the game.
  4. Please bold all requests to the Mod so that they don’t get missed.
  5. Prods of missing players will be issued automatically after 72 hours of no activity or upon request after 48 hours of no activity. A prodded player has 48 hours to respond or risks replacement. A player who has been prodded 3 times is subject to replacement without further notice.
  6. Rules violations will be dealt with according to their severity, up to and including a Modkill.
  7. If you anticipate being unavailable for more than a 48-hour period please post a notice to that effect in the thread. Treat this game as a commitment. Be considerate – don’t leave us hanging.

The Golden Rule:

Please remember that this is a game and your main objective is to have fun! Be considerate of each other, don’t get personal, and enjoy the game.

Setup

The Prisoner Mafia is a closed game but the following things are true about it:
  • The flavor for The Prisoner Mafia is drawn from The Prisoner, starring Patrick McGoohan and produced in 1967 and 1968. Knowledge of the flavor might be helpful but is not necessary to play.
  • There is at least one Village Resident (the equivalent of a vanilla townie) in the game. Any Village Resident role PM will be as follows (except for the number):
    The Mod wrote:You are
    Number 118, Village Resident
    .

There was a time when you had a perfectly normal life. You worked for the government (which one doesn’t matter) in a capacity that occasionally brought you into contact with sensitive material. Apparently at some point you encountered something so sensitive that it made you a security risk. As a result, you woke up one day as a resident of the Village, your past effectively lost and your future restricted to one small community which only barely hides its terrifying nature under a veneer of cheerful pleasantries.

Your hopes of escape are long since gone. Your hopes of justice on any large scale have vanished as well. If you follow their rules you’ve found that you can live a mostly comfortable life here provided that you’re not unlucky enough to be caught up in one of the countless plots and schemes that you only see the periphery of but which you know are constantly brewing in the background.

For whatever reason you’re now being given a chance to try to expose and dispose of the more public faces of your oppressors. Even the illusion of justice has its appeal. As does the thrill of the mob (and you’ve learned in your time here that you want to be a part of the mob, not its focus.) You know that this is almost certainly one of the many games within games that you’re now forced to play but at least this one should feel good while you play it. You hope.

    Win Condition
: You win when there are no threats to the Village and there is at least one Village Resident still alive
  • Roles with "Village Resident" in them are not a threat to the Village.
  • Numbers for at least the roles with "Village Resident" in them were generated randomly and could range from 7 to 200.
  • Number 6 is not in the game. If he was this would have been his role PM:
    The Mod wrote:You are
Number 6, Escapist of All Trades
    .

Not so long ago you were a top spy for British Intelligence. When you decided to resign over a mater of, well, you’d rather not say really, it wasn’t taken lightly. You promptly woke up here in the Village one morning and have been working tirelessly to leave ever since.

You’ve tried a variety of escape plans and thus far none have worked. The Village Administrators have always prevented you from vacating permanently. On the plus side they haven’t made any progress in their attempts to break you; in fact you’ve even managed to thwart plans of theirs that had nothing to do with you. Thus far it’s been a stalemate, but it’s not one that can go on indefinitely. Someone will make a mistake eventually and you’ll be damned if it’ll be you.

This latest nonsense about uncovering and lynching the Village Administrators is nothing but a farce. You’re certainly not the least bit fond of them, but beyond their ability to keep you here they are irrelevant. Further, even if the were disposed of you know they would only be replaced by new administrators who would be equally irrelevant. What this might do, though, is give you a chance to escape. If this isn’t all yet another plot to break you down then the confusion might be just what you need to finally give them the slip. Even if you’ve learned better than to be optimistic you still have to try.

    Active Abilities*:
    • Escape Attempt
. During the day you may attempt to escape the Village. To do so you must submit a list of players to the moderator. If the list of players contains as many players as there are threats to the Village but there are no threats to the Village are on the list you will succeed and win the game. If the list either contains the wrong number of players or at least one threat to the Village (or both) it fails and you will not be able to make another attempt for two days. If a second attempt also fails you lose the game. You will be removed from the game after either winning or losing via an escape attempt.
    • Cop
. Twice per game, at night, you may attempt to investigate a player. If you succeed in targeting them you will learn whether they are a threat to the Village or not.
    • Quantify Threats
. Once per game, at night, you may learn how many threats to the Village are in the game (including any that are killed during that night.) This action does not target anyone and as such it cannot be blocked.
    • Roleblock
. Once per game, at night, you may attempt to roleblock a player. If you succeed in targeting them you will prevent them from targeting any other players that night with active abilities.
    • Track
. Once per game, at night, you may attempt to track a player. If you succeed in targeting them you will learn any players they successfully targeted that night.
    • Watch
. Once per game, at night, you may attempt to watch a player. If you succeed in targeting them you will learn which players successfully targeted them that night.
    * You can use at most one active ability each night. Abilities used during the day do not count towards this limit.

    Passive Abilities:
    • No Threat to the Village
. You do not count as a threat to the Village. Any win conditions that require that there be “no threats to the Village” or “no other threats to the Village” can be fulfilled while you are still in the game.
    • Antisocial
. You may never speak with other players during the night even if some game effect would normally give you that ability.
    Reactive Abilities:
    • 1-shot Evasive
. The first night on which any active abilities would target you if this ability did not activate all active abilities will fail to target you.
    • 1-shot Unkillable
. The first time that an ability of any sort would kill you if this ability did not activate you will be protected. Note that you can be lynched without this ability activating as lynching is not an ability.
    Win Condition:
You win and leave the game if you successfully escape the Village. If you fail on two escape attempts you lose and leave the game. If you are alive and the game ends before you escape or you are killed in any way you lose.
  • Be seeing you.

Role PMs are now being sent out. Day One will start when at least 10 of the players have confirmed via PM. Any players with the ability to communicate at night will be able to do so until day one starts or 48 hours from this post, whichever comes later.

If you have any questions please do ask them when confirming that you have received your role PM and do understand the rules.

Day 1: Free For All

The crowd has now gathered in front of the Village Council Building. As far as you can tell no one looks like Number 2, but Number 2 changes so often that this doesn’t surprise you at all. The PA system didn’t even give you a place to start with how to identify the rest of the unmutuals you’re supposed to finding so you don't bother trying to identify them by sight. Looking around the milling clumps of citizens that have gathered here with rising suspicion you realize that no one is taking the initiative because you’ve all now been trained against exactly that.

It’s a tough move to make given how strong negative reinforcement in the Village can be, but you decide that the best course of action is simply to act. You have no doubt that you’ll be informed as to whether your progress is satisfactory or not and you suspect in this case that inaction simply isn’t an option.

Besides, you’d really like to see Number 2 hang. Any Number 2, even if it later turns out not to have been Number 2 will be worth it momentarily.

*********

At least 10 players have confirmed via email. Day One starts now. Remember that any players with the ability to communicate during the night will still be able to communicate out of the game thread until 1:30 PM EST/ 10:30 AM PST on Thursday, December 16th.

A day of action in the Village could mean many things. The crowd in front of the Village Council Building springs into action with a jerky suddenness, like marionettes whose puppeteer has just arrived behind the screen to pull their strings. They thrash about verbally and physically without knowing who the audience for this show is but with enough frenetic energy to amuse. When the scene is finished and the first day is done they do indeed have their unmutual to lynch.

EtherealCookie has apparently been in the village long enough to know that once one's fate has been decided it's usually easiest to simply accept it. There are no words as he is lead to the gallows. No words as the noose is fitted to his neck. When the lever is pulled and the trap door drops away the only sounds is a quick snap and then he dangles, his remaining string now there for all to see. Those who remain look uncertainly at each other and wonder if they've made the right decision. Without a clear leader no one is quite sure what is expected of them next.

The matter is soon resolved as the normal voice comes over the PA system:
The Village PA system wrote:Good evening everyone!

A reminder: curfew begins at 8:00 this evening. All good members of our community should now be making their way to their homes; a restful sleep tonight means a pleasant day tomorrow!

An announcement: the funeral for our dear friend Number 81 will be held a week from tomorrow. Any who would like to show their condolences should mark it on their calendars. A special presentation on his life and contributions will be given by his friends. For now we offer this moment of silence.

.....

Tomorrow it is hoped that a greater effort will be made to find Number 2 and his fellow reactionaries. Their presence will not be tolerated and you are being relied upon to find them soon.

Good night and sleep tight! Don't let the bedbugs bite!
The message couldn't be clearer. The crowd disperses and as people head off to their homes there is a feeling of disappointment. Not just because it was not Number 2 who ended up in the noose but also because it's now clear that this game you're playing won't leave any quarters. Before everything is played out there will be more funerals to be arranged for reasons that they can only guess and over which they have the barest minimum of control.

EtherealCookie, Number 81, Village Resident, was lynched day one.

Day one has ended. It is now night one. Deadline for submitting night actions is 3:00 PM EST/12:00 PM PST on Thursday, December 23rd. Countdown timer.

Day Two: It's Your Funeral

The next day dawns grey and gloomy. It's an atmosphere that suits the task at hand. The group that gathers at the gallows is smaller than the one that departed the evening before. A quick search of the Village reveals that someone seems to have strangled Number 69. Number 30's body isn't so easy to find and you give up before too long. Sometimes things in the Village don't have a satisfying explanation and this appears to be one of them.

In any case, your task remains the same and now there are fewer suspects to examine.

Fate, Number 30, Village Resident Mason, was disappeared night one.

Zang, Number 69, Village Resident, was garroted night one.

Mod Notes: Finding a replacement for Ojanen now. Ojanen, you have my condolences; hopefully you and your family are doing what you need to to take care of each other.

In other news, the personal insults need to stop now. I'd really rather not have to step in but I'm also not going to put up with my players insulting each other. You're welcome to complain about play and to be unhappy with each other if you feel you must but we're going to maintain a level of civility here. If anyone isn't sure whether they're going to cross a line they're welcome to check with me but it's probably an even better idea just not to post something if you're not sure if it might cross a line.

Everyone gathered around the Village Council Chamber is surprised when, after another animated debate followed by a hanging nothing seems to happen. Time passes and yet there's no sign that your actions have been acknowledged at all. It's as though the forces behind the scenes have simply left you to your own devices. Eventually everyone wanders home in a state of confusion feeling let down. It's only after everyone is at home (avoiding being out of their houses after what would normally be curfew by habit as much as anything else) when the static filled announcement comes on over the radios:
A Mysterious Voice over the raido wrote:Fear not my friends, your actions are not in vain. The powers that be apparently haven't decided how to react but allow me to be the first to tell you that Rover is no more thanks to your work! Number 2 can't be far behind and surely he's now lost a valuable ally. Sleep soundly knowing that a resounding blow has been struck for justice!
Plum, Rover, Village Administrator Jailkeeper, was lynched day two.

It is now night two. Deadline for submitting night actions is 3:00 PM EST/12:00 PM PST on Wednesday, January 5th. Countdown timer.

Day Three: Hammer Into Anvil

A sound sleep is nowhere to be found in the Village that night and in fact, what fitful sleep there is gets interrupted by the radio just before the sun begins to rise.
A Mysterious Voice over the raido wrote:Wake up! Wake up! You're one step closer to justice!

Another of Number 2's tools has fallen during the night! No longer do you need to worry about the Supervisor watching your every move. Hurry to the Village Council Chambers and take the next step. Don't let those who once tormented you regain their footing but strike now!
Those that make it to the gallows are once again reduced. Another body has been choked to death, this time inside the council chamber itself, near a well known "hidden" door to the warren of tunnels that underlie the entire area. One of the first things that gets learned at the Village is that you leave those doors alone but apparently the lesson didn't sink in as well for some as for others. Additionally Number 143 appears to have vanished during the night but it's hard to mourn such common bad news given the rarity of the good news that you're faced with.

The games aren't over but the pieces have started to fall into place.

chesskid3, Number 143, Village Resident, was disappeared night two.

Sotty7, The Supervisor, Village Administrator Watcher, was garroted night two.

The hour is late when you decide on the day's lynch but as soon as the process is finished and your latest victim is finished with his death spasms the PA system makes the announcement you've been waiting to hear.
The Village PA system wrote:Good evening all!

It is with joy in our hearts that we make the announcement that you have succesfully taught Number 2 his lesson! No longer will his unmutual behavior be a threat to our lovely village. Please take this opportunity to congratulate your fellow citizens on a job well done.

An announcement: the weather tomorrow should be cloudy though warm in the morning with a sunny afternoon. All village residents are encouraged to partake in a celebratory outing to the shore where we will
The PA system cuts out mid sentence and your feeling of at least temporary relief is interrupted. You spend some time looking at eachother in confusion but before long the mysterious voice you heard on the radio last night and this morning cuts through the silence of the evening.
A Mysterious Voice over the Village PA system wrote:My friends, I have good news and I have bad news. The good news is that you were told the truth just now. You have uncovered and eliminated Number 2. For that you have my heartfelt thanks. Unfortunately you can't let your guard down yet. There is still a danger to be overcome. The hour is late so I encourage you to retire to your homes but tomorrow your hunt must continue. Rest well, you'll need to be at your sharpest come the morning.
You wait a while longer to see if you'll receive any other words from above but eventually you decide that this is the final message you'll be getting for the day. You've made progress but apparently the game isn't done just yet. With mixed feelings you make your way home.

Nachomamma8, Number 2, Village Administrator Rolecop, was lynched day three.

It is now night three. Deadline for submitting night actions is 3:00 PM EST/12:00 PM PST on Monday, January 17th. Countdown timer.

Day Four: The Girl Who Was Death

The day breaks cloudy and warm, just like the truncated report you got over the PA system the night before. After checking the weather and making an unsatisfying breakfast during which time nothing comes over the radio you manage to drag yourself to the Village Council Building to take stock of the situation. Today no searching needs to be done. Number 41, garroted lying on the steps to the building. Everyone else is in attendance. Apparently the voice on the PA system spoke the truth; even though you've found and deposed Number 2 your task is not complete.

Camn, Number 41, Village Resident Mason, was garroted night three.

End of the Game: Fallout

The final day at the gallows in front of the Village Council Building goes by quickly. With so few Villagers remaining the decision of who to lynch doesn't take too long and before noon you've hung up the former general. When the act is complete you see the door to the Village Council Building open and a bearded man walks out and peers at the group gathered around the hanging corpse from a distance. When he speaks you recognize the voice as the one that you heard over the radio and the PA system.

"I see that you've finished with your task. I can't say I approve of your final decision there but so be it, choices are choices and they are yours to make. Mind you, when choices get made consequences have to result."

This doesn't sound like what you wanted to hear at all and you scramble for the right response. Someone in the group at least manages to ask, "Just who are you and what's this all about anyhow?"

"Don't you know by now?" He asks. "Of course I'm the new Number 2. I do appreciate all the work you did ridding the Village of my predecessor; you really did show that the group can act for it's good as a whole and triumph over most individuals. Sadly there are exceptions. Number 33, I assume that you've got one of your charges set on the platform there, yes?"

Number 33 looks confused for just a moment as he says, "of course I do, but I thought that ... Oh, I see. Does it need to be done now then?"

"That's right. There's no more need to wait. We know what we need and we can't have an loose ends lying about. I'll leave you to take care of things in your own way." Clearly this is a dismissal as Number 2 then turns and walks back into the Village Council Building as though none of you were there anymore. Everyone turns to Number 33 who looks as though he'd really like to apologize but you all know that once things are decided there's no fighting the system. This is, after all, the Village. Number 33 pulls out a controller and presses the only button on it. The last thing that any of you hear is the explosion before everything goes black.

populartajo, Number 129, 2-Shot Bulletproof Village Resident, was lynched day four.

Jack, Number 51, Village Resident, was exploded in endgame.

SpyreX, Number 29, Village Resident, was exploded in endgame.

The Rufflig, Number 33, Paranoid Explosives Setting Serial Killer, exploded himself in endgame and won.

Congratulations to The Rufflig on a Serial Killer win!

Role PMs and night actions to come shortly.

Scum role PMs were as follows:

Nachomamma8:
The Mod wrote:You are
Number 2, Village Administrator Rolecop
.

You are the Village’s current chief administrator and are working with your subordinates, Ojanen (the Supervisor) and Plum (Rover.) To the casual observer it probably seems that your position is usually one that wields considerable power. In some superficial ways that’s true, but ultimately you know that you have very little control over anything, let alone your own fate. It’s not a job that one keeps for an extended period of time but so long as you keep the right people happy you can expect to move on to other, less stressful assignments in the future.

At this point you find yourself required to blend in with the rest of the Village as they attempt to uncover and lynch administrators. You need to make them fail at their goal. All of them are expendable, but at this time you can’t move overtly for reasons that haven’t been explained clearly to you but which you dare not question. You have access to the files on all the Village Residents which you’ll be able to look at during the night if you’re not busy doing other things.

Active Abilities*
:
  • Rolecop
. Each night you may attempt to look up one player’s records. If you succeed in targeting them you will learn their number (if they have one) and their role.
  • Night Kill
. Each night one member of the mafia may attempt to kill one player. If they succeed in targeting and the kill is not prevented the kill method will be “disappeared.”
*You can use at most one active ability each night.

Passive Abilities
:
  • Night Talk
. You may communicate with the other Village Administrators during nights. You are encourage to use the following quick topic to do so: http://www.quicktopic.com/45/H/a3JYGWwJ6Ax
  • Fake Number Claim
. You know that Numbers 74, 120 and 174 are not in the game.
  • Threat to the Village
: The Village Administrators count as a threat to the Village. Any win conditions (other than those of Village Administrators) that require that there be “no threats to the Village” or “no other threats to the Village” will not be fulfilled until you are dead.
Win Condition
: You win when the Village Administrators make up at least half the Village, there are no other threats to the Village and at least one Village Administrator is still alive.

You are a Village Administrator and are working with your direct superior Nachomamma8 (Number Two) as well as one of the primary enforcers of the Village Administrators’ will, Plum (Rover.) You are usually left in charge of monitoring the Village and its residents using an extensive system of hidden (and not so hidden) cameras, microphones and other detection devices from a control room somewhere in the network of tunnels and corridors below the Village itself.

While there are no permanent positions in the Village Administration yours comes as close as it can. You’re not important enough to cause the higher ups concern but you’re competent enough at your job to not need replacing. You know when to speak and when not to, a very useful skill indeed in the Village.

At this point you find yourself required to blend in with the rest of the Village as they attempt to uncover and lynch administrators. You need to make them fail at their goal. All of them are expendable, but at this time you can’t move overtly for reasons that haven’t been explained clearly to you but which you dare not question. You have access to the surveillance equipment in the control room which you’ll be able to use during the night if you’re not busy doing other things.

Active Abilities*
:
  • Watch
. Each night you may attempt to watch one player. If you succeed in targeting them you will learn which players successfully targeted them that night.
  • Night Kill
. Each night one member of the mafia may attempt to kill one player. If they succeed in targeting and the kill is not prevented the kill method will be “disappeared.”
*You can use at most one active ability each night.

Technically you’re a Village Administrator with Nachomamma8 (Number 2) and Ojanen (The Supervisor.) Really you’re the big white ball that gets sent out to bring back people trying to escape or to menace people who might be thinking about it. You can be used lethally or with stopping force but you’re definitely able to take people out of the picture when it’s desired.

Somehow you’re able to blend in with the rest of the Village residents for this exercise despite essentially being a malevolent weather balloon. Even if you’re “killed” here you’re sure that you’ll be brought back once everything is over to resume your regular duties.

Active Abilities*
:
  • Jailkeep
. Each night you may attempt to jailkeep one player. If you succeed in targeting them you will prevent them for targeting anyone with active abilities and you will prevent active abilities from targeting them.
  • Night Kill
. Each night one member of the mafia may attempt to kill one player. If they succeed in targeting and the kill is not prevented the kill method will be “disappeared.”

The Mod wrote:You are

You’ve been sent with a list of targets by your superiors to test security at the Village. If you can kill all your targets before you’re caught then security isn’t nearly tight enough. If you get caught before you’re done then you probably aren’t a good enough security tester. You’re not expected to survive here; even if you do you have a nagging suspicion that your reward won’t be any better than a chance to retire in the Village after your job is done, but you’ll worry about the future when and if you get to it.

You’ve already been through the Village and have set up a variety of explosive booby traps in key locations. Now you’re ready to move on to the more active part of your mission. Apparently the Village is currently being allowed (and encouraged) to try to hunt down and lynch the Village Administrators. Perhaps this was arranged to correspond with your mission or perhaps it’s part of something entirely unrelated. You’re hoping that you can make the most of the situation regardless of why it’s happening.

Active Ability
:
  • Night Kill
. Each night you may attempt to kill one player. If you succeed in targeting them and the kill is not prevented your kill method will be “garroted.”
Passive Ability
:
  • Threat to the Village
: You count as a threat to the Village. Any win conditions that require that there be “no threats to the Village” or “no other threats to the Village” will not be fulfilled until you are dead.
Reactive Ability
:
  • Booby Traps
. If anyone targets you with an active ability a bomb will go off. Their action will still target you but, unless they would survive a reactive ability night kill, they will die in the explosion. Should someone die in this method the kill will show up as “exploded.” Every time an explosion happens it will be be heard by everyone and noted in the game thread.
Win Condition
: You win when all the other players in the game are dead. It does not matter if you are alive when this happens.
Mod Note: If Number 2 was exploded the Green Dome would have been blown up. If either The supervisor or Rover had been exploded the explosion would have come from below the Village (in the tunnel system.) Jailkeeping Number 33 would kill rover but would also prevent Number 33 from killing that night.

You are a Scientist who developed a revolutionary new way to harvest energy from geothermal sources. It should have heralded a new golden age with essentially free energy for all, but when you tried to take your findings to the public it seems that the Powers That Be didn’t support your vision of the future. Before you could make your announcement you and your family woke up here in the Village one morning.

At this point only you and your son, Hiraki (Number 41) are left. You have no idea what happened to your husband; hope that he’s being kept alive keeps you in check but you often wonder whether that’s not just another false promise being used to keep you in line. Although you have given up on escaping you’re not yet ready to give up resisting.

You and your son are both Jammers. Your inventions now are fake but plausible plots against the Village Administrators. You pass messages to your co-conspirators knowing that they’ll be intercepted and with the intention of tying up resources (which might otherwise be used to cause far more harm) to track false leads .

For whatever reason you’re now being given a chance to try to expose and dispose of the more public faces of your oppressors. Even the illusion of justice has its appeal. As does the thrill of the mob (and you’ve learned in your time here that you want to be a part of the mob, not its focus.) You know that this is almost certainly one of the many games within games that you now play and that this one isn’t being instigated by the Jammers, but at least it should feel good while you play it. You hope.

Passive Abilities
:
  • Night Talk
. You may communicate with the Jammers during nights. You are encourage to use the following quick topic to do so: http://www.quicktopic.com/45/H/SgyyDJMThyVj
  • Mason Knowledge
. You know that Hiraki (Number 41) is not a threat to the Village.
Win Condition
: You win when there are no threats to the Village and there is at least one Village Resident still alive.

Your mother, Fate (Number 30) was a Scientist who made some groundbreaking discovery that seems to have offended the wrong people. You’re not sure what the details are as she’s never willing to talk about it now, but before she had a chance to share it with the world your entire family woke up here in the Village one morning.

Your freedom has been taken away. Your former life has been taken away. Your father has been taken away (he wouldn’t play by their rules.) Even your name has been taken away. All you have left now are your mother and your desire to fight back in a way that won’t bring down massive reprisals upon you and the rest of the village. Your method of resistance has been to become a Jammer with your mother. You spread misinformation about fake but plausible plots against the Village Administrators. You pass messages to your co-conspirators knowing that they’ll be intercepted and with the intention of tying up resources (which might otherwise be used to cause far more harm) to track false leads.

For whatever reason you’re now being given a chance to try to expose and dispose of the more public faces of your oppressors. Even the illusion of justice has its appeal. At one time you were a General who helped keep the secret circles that pulled the strings for the government (which one doesn’t matter) in power. Then those circles made a change and your support was no longer needed. Sadly you knew too much to simply retire to your Estate by the Sea as you’d always planned, but it turns out that retirement by the Sea of another sort was an option (and one more appealing than the alternatives.)

You know that you’ll never escape from the Village but If you follow their rules you can live a mostly comfortable life here. That is provided that you’re not unlucky enough to be caught up in one of the countless plots and schemes that the powers that be constantly use to test the Village Residents, their Administrators and each other. Fortunately, even on the rare instances when you do get involved you’ve got a trick or two from your days in the army left to protect you.

For whatever reason the Village is now being given a chance to try to expose and dispose of the more public faces of its oppressors. You know that it won’t make a difference in the long run but you also know better than to do anything other than go along with it for now. With a little luck you’ll get through this and soon be able to return to the Illusion of a peaceful life in an idyllic environment. Even if you know it’s not real you’re pragmatic enough to enjoy it while you can.

Reactive Ability
:
  • 2-Shot Bulletproof
: The first two times you are targeted by an active ability that would kill you if this ability did not activate that kill will be prevented.
Win Condition
: You win when there are no threats to the Village and there is at least one Village Resident still alive.

So definitely congratulations to The Rufflig. His role was there to power the town and for the scum to hunt so I wasn't overly expecting it to win. The scum team all had active abilities and none of the town did so there was no way for the town to get any of the exploded kills. Without the SK the town wasn't particularly powerful (though the scum abilities mostly didn't actually help them against the town as the watcher and jailkeeper were both useless against this town in particular.)

It was on the whole a pretty good player group and I was pleased that there were only two replacements needed (Ojanen's being completely understandable and Hiraki's coming with a warning which was nice.) Thank you all for playing!

@Fate, well, without the SK it was essentially a town with 2 confirmed masons and a 2 shot bullet proof up against a scum roleclop. Given that I think rolecops are highly overrated I'm not too dissapointed with that. The SK was working against town to some degree but much more than that they were a danger to the scum and half of the scum's tools only worked against them. I think that's a pretty fair tradeoff most of the time. It's a swingy setup but I knew that when I was making it.
