Xalxe glides to a nearby shelf and picks up a handle (1.75 L) of single-malt whiskey. He then looks around for all exits out of the liquor store, observing:

• Two public entrances side-by-side in the front, separated by a display case;
  
• A "Staff Only" door leading to the rear loading dock, locked shut; and
  
• A hatch to the roof, locked shut.

gandalf5166: 2

"Crap, they're here!" mutters gandalf5166. He quickly grabs hold of one of the empty racks that held chips and starts pushing it towards the door to make a section of barricade.

...which turns out to be pretty slow going.

Event: there is now an empty snacks rack sitting halfway down the aisle from the back of the store, with a gandalf5166 behind it pushing and swearing.

chesskid3: 1

chesskid3 walks right past gandalf's useless barricade and calls out, "Who is it?" to the unknown figure knocking on the door.

"I'm a doctor! Please, let me in!"

Peering through the glass and not immediately seeing a mob of zombies, chesskid3 starts tugging on the door, which is oddly stiff for some reason ... until it springs open with a jerk, straight into chesskid3's face.

As jmj3000 hunts behind the counter, he finds a nice big bear-trap. With his hand. Much screaming follows.

drmyshottyizsik, inspired by a sudden thirst, proceeds directly to the vodka aisle, where he reaches up to pull a bottle of red-label Stolichnaya vodka off the top shelf - just in time to be distracted by jmj3000's bloodcurdling scream. He loses control of the bottle, which shatters on the floor at his feet, creating a large pool full of broken glass. Which he then loses his footing in.

As chesskid3 staggers back from the door, another figure staggers in. He slams the door behind him, then slumps to the floor, dropping a large medicine case he was carrying next to him. With the various survivors watching carefully from their separate positions, he speaks.

"I found ... the cure," he says, haltingly. "It's ... one injection, and it ... halts the infection. It ...

works

... I was bit, and I started feeling sick, but I got

better!

...where was I?"

He sways, briefly, then falls sideways to the floor.

"I got better ... but I got bit again ... and I had to take another dose ... I don't think ... I'm getting ... better ... again ..."

Event: the doctor has died, blocking the door.

Turn 2 Resolution

Xalxe: 5

Xalxe pulls a set of lockpicks out of a pocket of his trenchcoat and sets to work on the "Staff Only" door. Within seconds, he has it open, and seconds after that, he has crossed the back room and opened the loading dock.

gandalf5166: 4

While Xalxe deals with the doors, gandalf5166 hauls the dead body of the doctor up and drags him across the store. As Xalxe stands by, he drags the corpse out to the back of the lot, where a convenient wheelbarrow of mulch serves to bury it.

chesskid3: 2

chesskid3 ignores gandalf and Xalxe to inspect these cure vials that the doctor left. Unfortunately, once again he runs into trouble with a simple latch, and when the case finally pops open, half the vials go flying off.

jmj3000, behind the counter, hauls with all his strength on the bear-trap latched to his right hand. With one final heroic burst, he pulls it free ... whereupon it drops onto his foot, providing a convenient distraction from the pain in his arm.

While gandalf is dealing with the doctor, drmyshottyizsik walks up to the door to try and lock them out. He gets the door closed all right, but discovers that this does not

"Can I borrow the lockpick?" he asks Xalxe. Receiving no response, he shrugs, reopens the door, and steps out to examine the other side for a latch.

At which point gandalf5166 returns inside. Xalxe then casually drops the loading dock door and slaps on a padlock.

drmyshottyizsik is now locked out on the loading dock behind the liquor store.

Reecer6: 3

While all this was going on, Reecer6 awoke from his stupor and did a walking-about looking for some kind of sweeping instrument to use as a weapon. He soon finds one:

Outside, where drmyshottyizsik is discovering his mistake, the sun is slowly lowering in the sky. The lot is largely empty, with four cars scattered in different spots visible from the loading dock, and the motionless corpse of the doctor being the only dead in line of sight. (The wheelbarrow lies on its side nearby.)

After a moment, however, a groaning sound comes from woods behind the lot, and the sound of snapping branches can be distinctly heard.

Turn 3 Resolution

Xalxe: 2

Xalxe goes out the back of the store to locate a prime car for hotwiring, and picks out a nice Mercedes-Benz sitting right next to the store. Unfortunately, while he is struggling with the ignition the car mysteriously catches fire, and he's forced to bail.

gandalf5166: 5

gandalf5166 searches around the liquor store for some new bullets. It turns out that the (presumably former) owner of the liquor store was a model citizen with a membership to the NRA, so gandalf5166 happily loads five magazines with 9mm rounds for his M9. Hopefully zombies are allergic to hollow-points.

gandalf5166 is now carrying

chesskid3: 1

chesskid3 gropes around for a few minutes and finally finds all six missing vials. He then proceeds to trip on the case, dropping all six vials he had recovered onto the floor and knocking the remaining six in all directions. Apparently, chesskid3 will never, ever be allowed to carry the football.

Event: Six cure vials are now smashed on the floor.

Event: The medicine case is now empty.

Event: Six more vials are now scattered around the shop.

jmj3000: 1

As jmj3000 resumes his search, he finds yet another bear trap. He barely avoids it, only to fall and smash his head against the counter.

Event: jmj3000 is now disoriented. He will suffer a blanket -1 on his roll for next round, cumulative with his manual dexterity penalty.

drmyshottyizsik: 3

drmyshottyizsik, still out behind the store, makes a Molotov Cocktail, lights it, and throws it against the store. Part of the signage on the outside wall of the store ignites, but the damage is superficial. However, some of the splash from the bottle ignites a nearby Mercedes-Benz.

Reecer6: 3

Reecer carefully tries to brush a vial towards him. Unfortunately, he gets the angle wrong, and ends up pushing it out into the aisle on the other side. At least it will be easy to retrieve.

As the survivors busy themselves, the sounds of crackling leaves and branches grows in the woods, and suddenly the zombified corpse of a middle-aged black man staggers out onto the grass. He soon gracelessly falls on top of the mostly-buried body of the doctor and begins chewing on his exposed arm. The sounds of breaking branches continues to grow louder.

Spoiler: Turn 4 Actions

1. Xalxe: Activate my Trenchcoat of Invisibility.

2. gandalf5166: Pick up the remaining vials, to keep that dumbass chesskid from breaking the rest.

3. chesskid3: Grab a vial, put it in my pocket.

4. jmj3000: Look for something to defend myself with.

5. drmyshottyizsik: Find some zombies and kill them.

6. Reecer6: Grab that vial!

Turn 4 Resolution

Xalxe: 6

Behind the store, standing a safe distance away from the burning Mercedes, Xalxe activates the Trenchcoat of Invisibility. There is the vaguest impression of a humming, too high-pitched to hear, and it powers on, rendering every part of him completely transparent to all light.

Including his eyes.

Event: Xalxe is now invisible in his trenchcoat.

Event: Xalxe is now blind, as he cannot interact with photons to see.

gandalf5166: 3

In the meantime, gandalf5166 starts collecting the cure vials (chiefly to keep them away from chesskid3 - and for good cause). He manages to find five of the six and return them to the case, but ends up wasting several minutes trying to locate the last.

chesskid3, giving up on carrying the whole stock, attempts to crawl over and pick up just

of the cure vials. However, as he reaches for one, his hand gets accidentally trampled by gandalf5166 hurrying to beat him to it.

jmj3000: 5-1 = 4

jmj3000 holds his hand up to his head and looks around. Suddenly, his vision resolves what gandalf5166 had been looting moments before: an open weapons safe.

drmyshottyizsik, satisfied with the effects of his Molotov, decides to further display his manliness by killin' some zombie with his bare hands. With a mighty whoop, he charges at the zombie chewing on the dead doctor, kicks it off, and seizes it by the neck to strangle it.

Which was a frankly brilliant move, given that zombies don't breathe.

drmyshottyizsik is now holding a zombie by the neck as it tries to bite him.

Reecer6: 3

Reecer6 quickly climbs over the shelf, dropping clumsily on the other side. He scoops up the vial, then checks the foot he landed on to see if he'll be slowed down.

As drmyshottyizsik futilely squeezes the neck of one zombie, two more stagger out of the woods and start to approach him. The car and sign continue to burn, and the fire spreads up the outside wall and starts scorching the edge of the roof. Meanwhile, inside the store, the front door swings inward and open as a third new zombie staggers into the scene.

1. Xalxe: Switch the Trenchcoat's settings from "Ultra-Super-Mega-Wow-Invisible" to "Normal Invisibility" via the Invisibility Level Setting Dial located in the front left breast pocket.

3. chesskid3: Throw a temper tantrum

4. jmj3000: Search for more ammo for my shotgun, with buckshot being the priority, then birdshot, then more slugs.

5. drmyshottyizsik: Throw Current Zombie into fire, and then pick up a fallen fiery piece of wood and set the forest on fire.

6. Reecer6: Find a gun, brushes don't do very well as weapons.

Xalxe: 5

Xalxe turns his invisibility trenchcoat down a notch. He can now see perfectly well, and he is invisible to both zombies and players.

gandalf5166: 4

gandalf5166's first few shots hit the zombie in the chest. Finally, a bullet burrows deep into its brain. The zombie keels over with a death moan.

chesskid3 turns and dramatically runs out through the back gate, flailing around a little and making a noise like a dying goat. His fellow survivors ignore him, but the three zombies outside react to his noisy presence with eerie moans and stagger towards him.

jmj3000 gropes around in the gun safe for a few more seconds, but only finds empty shell casings. At least his hand feels better now.

Event: jmj's manual dexterity penalty has expired.

Question from theplague42: Just wondering, but why would birdshot be more effective than slugs?

drmyshottyizsik: 3

drmyshottyizsik manages to push the zombie off of him, but soon gives up on dragging it to the fire. Instead, he runs over and grabs a burning branch, then throws it at the forest. Unfortunately, the forest is about 50 yards away.

Reecer6: 1 (speak of the devil!)

Reecer fumbles around for a few minutes, looking for another gun. Instead, he finds jmj's beartrap, which he immediately tries on to see if it fits. Unfortunately, it doesn't match his shirt. It's also too tight, leaving deep, jagged cuts in his ankle. Apparently beartraps are even less useful than brushes.

Event: Reecer is now wearing

a sprung beartrap

on his right foot. It will cause a -1 penalty for actions involving feet until two turns after the trap is removed.

The three remaining zombies walk closer and closer to chesskid, ignoring the doctor's body. He can see their rotting flesh, yellow teeth, and wild eyes hungering for food. Nearby, drmyshottyizsik watches, hoping his incident with the fire didn't attract the zombie's attention, and Xalxe stands comfortably hidden by his trenchcoat. The back of the liquor store is now completely scorched, and the flames lick fiercely across the roof. The Mercedes still burns fiercely, the fire growing closer and closer to the gas tank. Inside the store, Reecer6, jmj3000, and gandalf5166 compose themselves, carefully watching the seemingly dead zombie. Distant moans reach them through the open front door.

Spoiler: Turn 6 Actions

1. Xalxe: I stealthily slink into the forest and search for either a large branch to use as a beating stick or a few nice-sized rocks for throwin'.

2. gandalf5166: Action: Go up on the roof and see if I can see any nearby buildings we could escape to.

(Packbat: I would consider unlocking the hatch to the roof to suffice as an action.)

3. chesskid3: Imitate Zombies so they don't eat me.

4. jmj3000: Look under the counter for an ammo box.

5. drmyshottyizsik: Call in soviet air strike on forest.

6. Reecer6: Carefully maneuver the bear trap off me.

Securely confident in his undetectability, Xalxe casually strolls past the three zombies in the parking lot ... and trips on a parking chock. After that, the swearing and the nosebleeding detract a bit from his undetectability.

gandalf5166: 5

gandalf5166, standing on a shelf under the ceiling hatch, realizes that the lock was apparently left loose, and it is but a moment to open it up and reach the roof.

From this higher vantage point, the situation looks relatively bleak - even ignoring the flames that are beginning to scorch the roof, the zombie population of the area appears relatively high, with many of them moving towards the store. However, there is one glimmer of hope: across the street and half a block down from the liquor store stands an old brick church, with narrow windows at ground level and unbreached front doors.

And as for the zombies on the open road between here and there: gandalf5166 has

very

good aim.

As the zombies stagger closer, chesskid3 takes a deep breath, sags his head, loosens his gait, and tries to get into the mindset of the dead.

He moans, seemingly unconsciously. He begins to shamble, indifferent to the sound of gunfire from the roof, indifferent to the fading light, indifferent to the scraping of his shoes against the asphalt ... until he suddenly trips on the invisible figure of Xalxe.

"What the hell, che-"

"Smell," interrupts chesskid3. "They're tracking us by smell, that's how they're doing it!"

chesskid3 now understands the zombie mindset. He will have

jmj3000 slings the shotgun over his arm and bends down to check the shelf under the cash register for bullets. As it happens, this was an inspired decision.

Dissatisfied with his prior efforts to cause rampant destruction, drmyshottyizsik decides he needs to call on a higher power. Specifically, a higher power known as "air support". He pulls a satellite radio out of his jacket pocket and speaks in Russian for a few minutes, listens to the response, then replaces the radio with a smirk.

Event: A Russian airstrike has been called on the strip of woods behind the liquor store.

Reecer6: 6

While everything else is going on, Reecer6 is carefully pulling the claws of the bear-trap apart and carefully maneuvering it off his leg. He successfully frees his leg, and gratefully drops it and begins to limp away.

Whereupon he discovers that his pants were still caught.

Turn 7 Resolution

Xalxe: 2

Xalxe brushes off the dust, jumps up, and resumes heading for the forest. Unfortunately, the smell of blood pouring out of his nose attracts the zombies that are still in the forest, and they begin to stumble towards him, blocking his way.

gandalf5166: 4

gandalf5166 crosses the roof toward the rear and decides to make an

execut

ive decision before trying to reach the church. He takes aim at drmyshottyizsik and fires off the last four rounds in his clip. Two of them slam into drmyshottyizsik's right shoulder as he spins around to return fire.

chesskid3: 3

chesskid3 runs back inside the liquor store and quickly takes off his clothing. Unfortunately, zombies don't contain much blood, and there isn't enough to mask his own smell. He daubs his shirt with as much as he can get anyway, for what it's worth.

jmj3000: 6

jmj3000 quickly grabs a shell and rams it into the magazine, without realizing that it was already full. The shell closest to the chamber collapses under the strain, jamming the action.

drmyshottyizsik: 4-2=2

drmyshottyizsik reaches inside his coat and pulls out a PKP Pecheneg light machine gun, and he is just laying it on the ground to aim at a passing bunny when a bullet ricochets off the pavement near him. He attempts to swing the gun around to return fire, but its weight is too much for him to hold it steady without a place to rest the bipod, and his shots go wild. The firing ceases as two 9mm rounds tear into his shoulder and he loses hold of the gun.

drmyshottyizsik has a shattered scapula, and is bleeding heavily. He has

for bleeding until six turns after the wound is bandaged.

Reecer6: 3

Reecer clumsily extracts his pants from the bear trap, tearing huge holes in them. He quickly puts them on.

As jmj3000 struggles with his shotgun, a zombie that had been hiding in the shadow of the building where gandalf5166 couldn't see stumbles through the front door, attracted to the scent of living flesh. Meanwhile, the zombies in the back smell Xalxe and drmyshottyizsik's blood and begin closing in. Simultaneously, the survivors begin to hear the sound of jets screaming towards the forest. They can't be more than a minute away.

Player location update so they can make a plan, otherwise they're all doing to die very ver soon: Xalxe is valiantly, but uselessly trying to reach the forest. Gandalf is standing at the edge of the roof, holding an empty M9. chesskid is inside the liquor store with bloody clothing. jmj3000 is also in the store, with plenty of ammo but a jammed shotgun. drmyshottyizsik is lying next to a light machine gun in the parking lot outside. He has a shattered scapula and heavy bleeding. Reecer is standing inside the store with torn pants. A sprung bear trap lies next to him.

Spoiler: Turn 8 Actions

1. Xalxe: Take shotty's gun.

2. gandalf5166: Jump off of the roof, and aim for something soft, then make a break for the church.

3. chesskid3: run to the church while thrusting my shirt at any zombies in my way so they back off.

4. jmj3000: Clear the chamber of the jam as I run towards the church (after opening the door of course).

5. drmyshottyizsik: continue to shoot (addendum: to kill) at gand as he runs to the church.

6. Reecer6: Follow Gandalf.

One: zombies don't care if you're walking like a zombie. They track by smell.
Two: the dead doc wasn't a zombie. He was just dead.

When? I've checked through the history several times - he shot one inside and, after going onto the roof, several in front.

Also, my point was that the smell is the

only

relevant fact about you from a zombie perspective. You could be doing cartwheels, but if you smell like human, they go for you, and if you don't, they don't. As it stands, your clothes have a bit of musk on them, but that's all.

Xalxe: 4

Hearing the incoming planes, Xalxe quickly rushes over to where drmyshottyizsik is lying and picks the machine gun out of his arms as he fires. He then runs onward, past the zombies closing in on drmyshottyizsik and around the store toward the church.

gandalf5166: 3

gandalf5166 runs diagonally across the roof, aiming for a convenient car roof as he jumps off the edge. It breaks his landing, but not well - and as he tries to clear the wreck and make a run for it he hears a machinegun open fire. Then he hears no more.

gandalf5166 has been cut to pieces by machinegun fire and

is now dead

chesskid3 (with special bonus): 5 (no reroll)

chesskid3, with his savant-like intuition dealing with zombies, quickly realizes that the zombie blood on his shirt may confuse the zombies for a split-second. He calls out, "Follow me!", thrusting the shirt at the zombie just inside the door before sprinting out and toward the church, and he is the first to reach its doors. He struggles to open them by himself, but finds them to be stuck.

jmj3000: 5

jmj3000 quickly removes the blockage from his shotgun and pumps the action, loading a slug. He blasts the disoriented zombie chesskid3 had left behind as he runs out, then rushes down the street to help chesskid3 with the doors.

drmyshottyizsik: 6-2 = 4

drmyshottyizsik, in a last ditch effort, braces the PKP against his left shoulder, drops the bipod to the ground, and tries to catch a bearing on gandalf5166 as the latter jumps from the roof. The delay as gandalf5166 extricates himself from the car proves just long enough, and drmyshottyizsik successfully walks his fire across gandalf5166's body and into Reecer6, who had just rounded the corner of the store, before the gun is suddenly pulled from his grasp. Disarmed, he struggles to pull a revolver from his shoulder holster with the wrong hand as the zombies close in.

Reecer6: 6

Reecer6 follows chesskid3 and jmj3000 from the store, looking around for gandalf5166. He sees the man jump from the roof and runs toward him - but too late sees drmyshottyizsik, still alive behind the store, take aim with the big machinegun. One of drmyshottyizsik's bullets tears through Reecer6's leg, and Reecer6 goes down with a scream.

Reecer6 now has an injured left leg. He will be at -1 for any actions involving that leg until 4 turns after it is bandaged.

Russian bomber flight: 2

As the zombies fall upon drmyshottyizsik, Xalxe runs, and chesskid3 and jmj3000 bash against the church door, they hear the scream of jets overhead. Russian fighter-bombers, heeding shotty's call, release their cluster bombs over the forest. However, they are moving too fast and overshoot, and the bombs miss the forest entirely.

While chesskid3 and jmj3000 are distracted by the bombs, however, the door behind them suddenly opens, and a voice says, "Come in, quick!"

Kcdaspot and Zodiark13 are in the church and replace drmyshottyizsik and gandalf5166. They will post introductions with their first moves.

Well, I did add the clause about assists. "Assisting other players will add modifiers to their roll based on yours. So if you were to roll a 4, you might add +2 to their roll."

Turn 9 Resolution

Xalxe: 3

Xalxe (still invisible) slings the machinegun over one shoulder and runs to help Reecer6. Together, the two make their way towards the church, zombies close behind them.

Kcdaspot: 1

Kcdaspot adjusts the bolt and steps outside, holding the door and watching as Reecer6 attempts to cross the street. As he cranes his head, the door slips from his grasp and swings closed. And locked.

chesskid3: 4

chesskid3 quickly tells Kcdaspot, jmj3000, and Zodiark13 about zombie psychology.

Whenever Kcdaspot, jmj3000, or Zodiark13 performs an action based on zombie psychology, they will gain an automatic +1. This is

not

a special bonus.

jmj3000: 3

jmj3000 is distracted listening to chesskid3, and fails to notice the door closing beside him. He, too, is stuck outside.

Zodiark13: 4

As Kcdaspot goes out to (fail to) hold the door for the newcomers, Zodiark13 looks around for a way to barricade the door once everyone is in. He finds a loose pew suited to the task, and drags it near the entrance, ready to be put in place.

Reecer6: 3

As Reecer6 attempts to crawl away from the zombies, he feels, but does not see, Xalxe's hand assisting him to his feet. With Xalxe helping him, he limps in the direction of the church. He and Xalxe make as far as the steps of the church before Reecer6 collapses in pain.

As Xalxe and Reecer struggle towards the church, more zombies approach, passing those feasting on drmyshottyizsik. While a fraction of them go for gandalf's body, others smell Reecer6's blood and start following the trail. As chesskid3 illuminutes the other survivors, he sees a large group of zombies moving up the street towards the entrance of the church.

Xalxe leaves Reecer6 on the steps and hurries up to the door. He pulls out his lockpick set and, within seconds, the door is unlocked.

Kcdaspot: 2

Kcdaspot, freed from his door-opening duties, scrounges around for a weapon. However, he doesn't find anything other than a few dusty hymnals and a burnt candle.

chesskid3: 3

chesskid3 opens the door and goes inside. Xalxe is right behind him.

jmj3000: 6

jmj3000 walks around the entire church looking for a good window, but can't find one low enough to reach and wide enough to get through. Instead, he climbs a nearby tree and jumps towards a window higher off the ground. And through it. Shattering it.

jmj3000 suffers two broken ribs and numerous cuts from the glass. He will suffer a -1 blanket penalty for four turns.

Zodiark13: 3

Zodiark13 closes the door after chesskid3 and Xalxe make it inside, but is unable to lock it. The bolt has stuck fast.

Reecer6: 3

After Xalxe leaves, Reecer6 lies down on the pavement, distracting himself from his leg by thinking about pancakes. Rather than the approaching zombies. One soon drops in to catch his attention, however.

Event: Reecer6 has been bitten in his injured left leg by a zombie. He is fighting it off in front of the church steps.

The groans of zombies have become omnipresent as they gather towards the church. As the sun sinks, across the street and on the other side of the forest, sparks can be seen rising in the air as the bombed part of the town begins to burn in earnest. At the moment the wind is the other direction.

Xalxe: 2

Xalxe tries valiantly to lock the door, but the bolt barely budges. The door remains unlocked.

Kcdaspot: 6

Kcdaspot returns to his search for weapons, until he suddenly gets a brainstorm: if there's nothing but pews, then

use a pew!

Unfortunately, the one he picks was Zodiark13's barricade pew. The two of them fight over it briefly, until Zodiark13 jerks it out of Kcdaspot's hands and it swings to hit Kcdaspot in the jaw.

Kcdaspot now has a -1 blanket penalty next turn for disorientation.

chesskid3: 3

chesskid3 takes three steps back from the commotion near the door and looks around, taking in the room at a glance. He sniffs the air, sensing the flow of currents through the space. And then he notices jmj3000 just crashed through one of the stained-glass windows, creating a prime zombie entrance.

jmj3000: 4-1=3

jmj3000 picks himself up and runs to the front doors. He opens them slightly and fires at the zombies. His first two shots goes wide, but the next two slugs claim a zombie each.

jmj3000's shotgun is now loaded with

3 birdshot shells

Zodiark13: 2

Zodiark13 starts to push the pew towards the door. He only makes it a few feet before Kcdaspot makes a grab for it, and the two of them struggle for a while before Zodiark13 is able to regain control of it.

Reecer6: 4

Reecer6, moments away from being eaten by zombies, remembers his cure vial. He takes it out of his pocket, uncorks it, and drinks the contents. His body spasms as the drug takes effect, kicking away the zombie.

Reecer6 has taken the zombie cure. On Turns 13-15, he will be at -1 for all actions due to the side effects of the drug.

The zombies on the street shuffle closer and closer to the front of the church, spreading out and encircling the entrance. The death of the two closest ones has created a small space surrounding Reecer6, but it will not take long for that space to close and for him to be surrounded.

Behind the building, several more zombies approach and pile against the wall at the broken window, smelling the opening but not quite having the reach to pull themselves in. The groaning increases in volume.

In the distance, the fire from the bombing continues to burn.

2. Kcdaspot: GO THROUGH THE WINDOW AND KICK ZOMBIE ASS

Turn 12 Resolution

Xalxe: 1

Xalxe calmly and invisibly proceeds down the aisle and into the sacristy, where he procures a large bottle of communion wine. He begins struggling with the cork, pulling and pulling until it suddenly springs free of the bottle and the latter falls out of his hands.

Xalxe now has a

bruised right foot.

He will be at -1 for any actions involving that foot for the next turn.

Kcdaspot: 1-1 = 0

Kcdaspot gives up on his hunt for weapons and decides to employ his right to bear legs. He charges across the room to take a leap through the window, only to catch his foot on the steps up to the stage and do a faceplant.

Kcdaspot now has a

and a

stubbed right big toe

. He will be disoriented (-1) for the next turn and have a -1 for any action involving his right foot for the next three turns.

chesskid3: 1

chesskid3 drops to his knees by the doors and attempts to concentrate on beseeching a benevolent Lord for His assistance. As his eyes are closed while he attempts to do this, he doesn't notice Zodiark13 with his pew.

chesskid3 is now bleeding from the scalp where a leg caught the side of his head. He will be disoriented (-1) for the next turn.

jmj3000: 1-1 = 0

jmj3000 drops the shotgun and slings the ammo bag off his shoulder and dives into it, pulling out a box. Unfortunately, when he picks up the shotgun to load it, the strap of the ammo bag gets caught in the trigger guard.

jmj3000 now has a shotgun loaded with

2 birdshot shells

. He is also deafened from the noise of the shot and has burns on his left hand from holding the barrel while it fired. He will be at -1 for any action requiring hearing and -1 for any action requiring his left hand for the next three turns.

Zodiark13: 4

Having successfully wrest control of the pew from Kcdaspot, Zodiark13 hauls it the remaining distance to the door while only knocking one other party upside the head with it. He soon has it wedged in place blocking entrance from the front.

Event: The front doors of the church have been blocked with a pew.

Reecer6: 6-1 = 5

Pulling his handy brush out of his jacket, Reecer6 steels himself to the pain and dodges around the knot of zombies at the door to the church. Limping very, very quickly, he weaves his way through the staggering masses and drops onto the porch of the house next door. Conveniently, checking under the flowerpot actually

does

yield a key to the front door, and Reecer6 is inside with zombies locked outside moments later.

The last of the sunlight is truly gone, now - the only remaining source of light is the dim flickering of the fires through the trees. Through the shattered window of the church, stars can be seen appearing in the eastern sky.

1. Xalxe: Continue to craft my Molotov cocktail.

2. Kcdaspot: Heal self or find people to help heal me.

3. chesskid3: pray better.

4. jmj3000: Carefully load the shotgun with any ammo I have left in the ammo bag that will fit.

5. Zodiark13: Try to identify any other ways zombies could get into the church, assuming the windows aren't too low for the to climb through.

6. Reecer6: Push barricades over all the possible zombie entryways.

Turn 13 (dum dum dum!) Resolution

Xalxe: 6

Xalxe retrieves the dropped wine bottle, empties the remaining wine into a nearby washbasin, turns on a flashlight, and finds a can of white gas near a camp stove in nearby meeting room. He soon has the bottle filled up and a wick inserted in the top, and as he walks back to the main hall to throw it through the window, he flicks his lighter to ignite it.

Xalxe has accidentally

set his left sleeve on fire

. If the fire is extinguished quickly enough, he will only have a -1 for actions involving his left hand. Consequences will be more severe if the fire burns longer.

The floor of the corridor outside the sanctuary is now covered with

broken glass and naphtha

. A lighter, not currently burning, lies among the pieces.

Kcdaspot: 1-1 = 0

Kcdaspot puts his hand to his face and tries to staunch the flow of blood from his nose. He isn't very skilled in first aid, however, and just hurts himself more. He spends the next several minutes curled up and whimpering.

chesskid3: 4-1=3

chesskid3 kneels on the ground, praying fervently. Nothing obvious happens, but he does start to feel better.

jmj3000: 2

jmj3000 grabs a shotgun shell out of the box. Without his left hand, however, he can't hold the gun steady enough to put it into the magazine.

Zodiark13: 4

Zodiark13 jogs around the church, looking for any other entrances. The front door is barricaded with the pew, and the other two main doors are barricaded with chairs and such. He also sees the broken window that jmj3000 fell through. All the entrances he sees seem secure enough, although he isn't sure if there are any others.

Reecer6: 5-1 = 4

Reecer6 pushes a coffee table against the front door and limps around the house. Judging by the faint evening light through the windows, he guesses that the main floor is composed of three rooms. The front door opens into a living room. Through a doorway in the back is the kitchen, with the dining room off to the side. A door opens from the kitchen to the backyard. A set of stairs leads from the living room to the upper floor. Reecer uses a chair to jam the kitchen door shut, but can't find anything to barricade the many windows in the dining room.

The dim sky glow of twilight is fast fading. The moaning of the zombies diminishes somewhat, as they fail to find further bodies outside shelter.

Spoiler: Turn 14 Actions

1. Xalxe: Extinguish fire with the help of the sink in the sacristy.

2. Kcdaspot: HEAL BETTER.

3. chesskid3: Pee on Xalxe's left sleeve.

4. jmj3000: Switch hands and attempt to load the shotgun again.

5. Zodiark13: Light candles around the church. If there is none, find some way of keeping the church well lit.

6. Reecer6: Look through the entire house for a firearm.

Turn 14 Resolution

Xalxe: 6-1 = 5

Xalxe sprints back to the sacristy, trailing fire the whole way. He thrusts him arm into the small sink and turns the faucet on high. The fire is extinguished within seconds.

Xalxe's arm is no longer on fire. He will suffer a -1 penalty involving his arm for the next three turns.

Kcdaspot: 2

Kcdaspot tries again to heal himself. His efforts are in vain, as nothing happens. He does manage to avoid hurting himself more.

chesskid3: 4

chesskid runs after Xalxe, unzipping his pants. Unfortunately, Xalxe puts out the fire before chesskid gets a chance to pee on him.

jmj3000: 6-1 = 5

jmj3000 switches the shotgun to his right hand and tries loading the shells with his injured left hand. He has to grit his teeth through the pain, but he nevertheless has the shotgun's magazine filled quickly.

jmj3000's shotgun is now loaded with 3 birdshot shells and 4 slugs.

Zodiark13: 1

Zodiark13 looks around the church for some candles for several minutes. In the fading light, however, he misjudges the position of a pew and does a faceplant on the hard floor.

Zodiark13 has a -1 penalty next turn because of intense pain.

Reecer6: 4-1 = 3

Reecer6 eventually locates a flashlight by blind luck in the kitchen, and limps up the stairs hunting for some kind of weapon. Eventually, the back of a closet turns up a little target-shooting rifle and a box of bullets.

Reecer6 is now carrying a .22 bolt-action rifle and 50 target rounds.

As the night sets in, sleepiness and exhaustion begin to toll on the six survivors. The moaning of the zombies and crackling of the fires fade into the background as they find various safe spots to pass out.

The survivors sleep through the night safely.

1. Xalxe: CONTINUE CONSTRUCTION OF THIS DAMN MOLOTOV COCKTAIL.

2. Kcdaspot: None so far.

3. chesskid3: Pray for Kcdaspot's swift recovery.

4. jmj3000: Look around the church, looking for a safe way out, like a passage in the basement.

5. Zodiark13: Search for edible food.

6. Reecer6: Try to find anything to communicate with the radio, such as a radio or computer.

Turn 15 Resolution

Xalxe: 3-1=2

Having thoroughly quenched his arm, Xalxe goes a-hunting for a new Molotov-cocktail bottle. Unfortunately, it seems that this church did not have much communion wine on hand.

Kcdaspot: 2

Kcdaspot goes to the base of the broken window to try to look outside. The broken section is too high off the ground to look through. He does hear, however, zombies softly moaning outside.

chesskid3: 2

chesskid3 kneels down and prays once again. Nothing happens.

jmj3000: 4

Walking around the church, jmj3000 notices a hollow sound when he steps inside one of the side rooms. He examines the area and discovers that it is a trap door. He opens it up and descends the ladder into a muddy basement room with a gate that can be opened to access the (apparently zombie-free) storm drain system.

Zodiark13: 3-1=2

Zodiark searches the church for any food or water. Other than the sink in the sacristy, there doesn't seem to be any other edibles in the church. The only wine has been spilled on the floor by Xalxe, and even the bread is mysteriously missing.

Reecer6: 4-1=3

Reecer limps into the kitchen. He opens several drawers, looking for any kind of communication device. Finally, he finds a pair of walkie-talkies. When he tries to turn them on, however, nothing happens. The batteries are dead.

1. Xalxe: Grab priestly garments for use later, then follow jmj3000.

2. Kcdaspot: Use parkour to get up to the window to see outside.

3. chesskid3: Let Xalxe and Jmj go in front, and follow.

4. jmj3000: Lead everyone to the storm systems.

5. Zodiark13: Follow the others.

6. Reecer6: Free Action: Any zombies out there?

Xalxe: 3

Xalxe goes back into the sacristy to search for any vestments. However, he can only find a small cross necklace before he heads towards the storm drain.

Kcdaspot: 2

Kcdaspot looks for a way to get up to the window. He tries to use his parkour skills to jump to the window, but the walls are bare and flat. There is no way to reach the window.

chesskid3: 6

chesskid3 hangs back from the group, taking the rear as first jmj3000, then Zodiark13, then Xalxe proceed into the storm drains. He is just following them when he realizes that Kcdaspot wasn't, and he pauses to wait for K for a moment too long. When he turns his head, he finds he is alone.

chesskid3 is lost in the storm drains. He will need to roll a success to find his way out.

jmj3000: 4

Zodiark13: 4

jmj3000, with Xalxe and Zodiark13 close behind, makes his way into the drain system. It is very dark and the survivors cannot see well - nevertheless, they eventually find their way to a ladder leading up to a manhole.

Reecer6: 1

Reecer6, seeing the zombies still milling around outside through the curtains, checks through the kitchen for sustenance, instead. He finds a plastic tub of leftover Chinese in the fridge, but when he opens the container, the smell is horrific. He quickly closes it and pitches it in the trash can, but the odor lingers.

Reecer6 will be at

Xalxe: 1

Xalxe, waiting for the others to scout out their exit, reaches back to pat his pet bobcat -- only to discover that it isn't there. He looks back and forth fruitlessly, but it apparently is nowhere nearby.

Xalxe's pet bobcat is missing.

Kcdaspot: 1

Kcdaspot takes a careful turn around the now-empty church, looking around and under things to see if there is anything worth picking up. He is just getting around to the rear of the church when he opens a door he thought was to a room, but was actually to outside. And had three zombies leaning on it.

The rear hallway door of the church is now open. Three zombies are entering the church through this door.

chesskid3: 3

chesskid3 takes a deep breath, and attempts to divine where the others might be. When he hears a yell in the distance, therefore, he immediately knows what's up and starts walking, and sees Xalxe and Zodiark13 in light at the base of a ladder.

jmj3000: 4

jmj3000 scurries up the ladder and leans his ear to the manhole cover. He hears nothing nearby, and when after a moment he gingerly lifts it to look out, he sees no nearby zombies.

Zodiark13: 1

Realizing his bobcat is missing, Xalxe immediately begins a search of his surroundings to try to find signs as to the direction it may have gone. He has done a pretty thorough hunt of the floor around the ladder without luck when he hears it purring down the tunnel and heads off in that direction.

Kcdaspot: 3

Thinking fast, Kcdaspot grabs the nearest pew and pushes it against the zombies. They push back, preventing him from pushing them out the door. However, he does manage to wedge it against the walls rather nicely, holding them back far enough that he could make it to the basement and the storm drains. If he is quick.

chesskid3: 6

chesskid3, still in the darkness of the tunnel, sees Xalxe acquire a sudden discomfiture and start searching for something. Deciding, "Hey, I should find that first!", chesskid3 begins carefully retracing his steps, looking out for things unusual -- like the large, spotted feline, apparently tame, that is eyeing him from the shadows.

"Hey, kitty kitty kitty," chesskid3 whispers, slowly approaching the bobcat. As it eyes him, he decides to try making feline sounds, and manages a pretty good meow...

...whereupon the cat tackles him, knocking him to the ground. And chesskid3 pales when he sees that the cat is eyeing him with rather more than

academic

interest.

Xalxe's arrival on the scene hardly comes soon enough for chesskid3's tastes. He only wishes that Xalxe hadn't stopped to laugh his head off before rescuing him.

Zodiark13 is right on the heels of jmj3000 as he climbs the ladder. Unfortunately, jmj3000 doesn't realize that Zodiark13 is right behind him and drops the cover back down, smashing Zodiark13's fingers.

Reecer6: 2

Reecer6, satisfied with his situation, decides to kick back in an easy chair and watch the boob tube. By which he means the telly, although if tank tops should be involved, he wouldn't object.

Xalxe: 5+1 = 6

In his eagerness to get out of the sewers, Xalxe and his bobcat blindly rush up the ladder. He doesn't realize that jmj3000 hasn't yet removed the cover, and smashes the top of his head. He falls back down the ladder, taking the bobcat with him.

Xalxe will suffer a -1 penalty next turn for pain and confusion.

Xalxe's bobcat is now very mad.

Kcdaspot: 1

Having stopped the zombies for the moment, Kcdaspot tries to use his amazing, awesome parkour skills to reach the storm drain. Apparently he isn't as good as he thinks he is, and his feet slip off the smooth wood of the pew as he tries to run along it. Moments later, the zombies start climbing over.

The door to the basement is now obstructed.

3. chesskid3: 3-1 = 2

After narrowly escaping death by Xalxe, chesskid3 starts up the ladder. The years of math camp and computer games catch up to him, however, and he can't make it more than halfway before he starts gasping for air.

jmj3000: 5

Knowing that there was no real way to get a handhold on the manhole cover from above, jmj3000 ignores the sounds from below and looks around to see if there is any convenient tool for the purpose. Fortunately, the manhole cover opens into a construction area, and a nice, solid prybar is lying on a nearby wall.

The manhole cover is now removed.

jmj3000 now has

an iron crowbar.

Zodiark13: 2

Zodiark13 figures that third time's the charm and climbs up behind chesskid3. Only to be stuck as chesskid3 stops halfway up and refuses to move any farther, despite Zodiark13's cajoling.

Reecer6: 4

Reecer6 grabs his trusty .22 and ammo and hobbles upstairs. Opening a window, he sees a small mass of zombies gathering around the front of the house. He loads the first round and fires. The small bullet hits the lead zombie in the shoulder, doing little damage. His next two shots hit the zombie in the brain, killing it.

2. Kcdaspot: make one last break for the window. use a pew, set it against the window, run on top of the pew and run up the wall and try to grab the ledge.

His head swimming, Xalxe slowly regains his feet and aims at the ladder - only to trip headlong over his bobcat trying to reach it. And the bobcat scratches him for his trouble.

While he is apologizing to his kitty, the ladder suddenly shrieks and falls.

Kcdaspot: 1

As the zombies begin to pull themselves over the pew, Kcdaspot scrambles away and into the main hall to take one last crack at the window. He grabs a pew to haul up against the window...

...and discovers it is one of the ones bolted to the floor.

Kcdaspot has pulled his back. He will be at -1 for the next turn.

chesskid3: 6

Mustering all of his meager strength, chesskid3 propels himself up the ladder, out of the manhole, and

away

. He runs out of strength after a few blocks and collapses in what appears to be the back lot of a church with a broken rear window. He notices that the door is open, and that there are sounds coming from inside. And all around.

chesskid3 is behind the church he started at.

jmj3000: 4

jmj3000 looks around the picks the largest house in his immediate vicinity. He runs up to the front door, holding his trusty crow bar. After a minute of effort, the door is open and is still mostly intact. jmj3000 enters the house and glances around, but doesn't see anything useful.

Zodiark13: 6

Zodiark13 follows chesskid3's example, using all of his strength to push himself up the ladder. He manages to make it onto the asphalt without injury, but the rusted old ladder just couldn't take the strain. It collapses back into the drain, trapping Xalxe.

Reecer6: 6

Reecer6 goes back downstairs, looking for medical supplies to fix his ankle and leg. Fortunately, he finds some casting powder and some bandages. Working quickly, he soon has a homemade cast around his leg. He worked a little too eagerly, however, and immobilizes his entire leg. He'll have trouble getting around now.

Reecer6 will suffer a

penalty until he removes part of the cast.

Xalxe: 4

Xalxe, seeing that the ladder is no longer a feasible means of ascent, decides to take things into his own arms, and begins modifying his Trenchcoat of Invisibility. After a few adjustments, he successfully transforms it into a Trenchcoat of Flying.

The bobcat purrs approvingly.

Kcdaspot: 1-1 = 0

"All right - that's it," mutters Kcdaspot to himself. "These zombies are going down

right now.

" With a determined set to his jaw, he crosses the room back to the hallway with the zombies. And the pew. And the pool of naphtha with Xalxe's lighter in it.

Observing the latter, Kcdaspot gets an idea. Whereupon history repeats itself.

Kcdaspot's hand is on fire. He will need to put it out.

The hallway leading out is on fire. The zombies are retreating from the flames.

chesskid3: 6

chesskid3. hearing the shuffling of zombies all around, decides that the only logical direction to travel is up. As he concentrates, he feels his shirt stretching, stretching, and tearing as two leathery wings grow out of his back.

Unfortunately, building these wings took a lot of energy from his body that he didn't have.

chesskid3 is woozy from lack of food. He will be unable to fly until he eats.

jmj3000: 3

Realizing the house has been stripped of all its suppies, jmj3000 goes next door and pries open a window. He climbs through and finds himself in the kitchen. He checks around and grabs a large kitchen knife, but still can't find anything immensely useful. All food seems to have been taken by the occupants.

Zodiark13: 1

Zodiark13 closes his eyes and turns his brain into high gear. Dozens of scenarios race through his mind and he tries to find a solution to the zombie problem. He isn't Deep Blue, however, and none of the scenarios make any sense. All that he discovers is a massive headache.

Reecer6: 3

Grabbing scissors, Reecer begins cutting off the top of the cast. The material is already dried and is very tough, but he manages to roughly cut the section covering his knee. He won't be running marathons any time soon, but he can walk fairly well.

Turn 22 Resolution

Xalxe: 6

Xalxe readies his coat for flight. Grabbing his bobcat, he leaps out of the manhole and flies into the sky. The exhilaration is so great that he doesn't pay attention where he is going. Suddenly, he crashes into a large building. Shaking his head in dizzyness, he realizes that he has crashed into a bell tower; the tower of the very church in which Kcdaspot is trapped. A moment later, he realizes that he has dropped his cat.

Kcdaspot: 1

Kcdaspot screams wildly and runs towards the sacristy, trailing fire the whole way. Apparently, Xalxe had closed the door after he had put out his own fire, and the door is now locked. He bashes against it a few times, but it doesn't budge.

The fire is spreading. Kcdaspot now has -1 for pain.

chesskid3: 5

Woozy from lack of food, chesskid3 is looking around trying to find some when he sees Xalxe go soaring overhead and straight into the bell-tower. When Xalxe's bobcat falls to the ground, chesskid3 decides to seize the opportunity. He grabs it and swallows it whole before it can scratch him. It is both disgusting and energizing.

chesskid3 now has the energy to fly.

jmj3000: 1

Setting his ammo bag down in the foyer, jmj3000 begins a search of the house making sure to bring his shotgun. Clearing each room before entering, he scours them for ammunition. After 20 minutes of searching, he hasn't found anything. When he walks back into the foyer, his ammo bag has disappeared.

Zodiark13: 5

Checking the nearest house, Zodiark13 finds what looks like a cellar door on the outside. Strangely, the door is made of steel; the half-inch thick deadbolt is open. Zodiark13 lifts the door, goes the the ladder, and finds himself in a small Cold War-era bomb shelter. He sees shelves loaded with old but still edible delicacies such as Saltine crackers and canned anchovies. Hanging on the wall is a small gun safe with a key lock; however, the key is nowhere to be found.

Reecer6: 1

Reecer6 finds the medicine cabinet and takes two of every single drug he can find. He produces a techno CD from his pocket and puts it in the stereo, turning it on high. By now, he has already started hallucinating. He then opens the front door, saying "Hey guys, glad you could make it!"

The zombies stare blankly at Reecer6, wondering if it was safe to go inside.

Turn 23 Resolution

Xalxe: 6

Xalxe takes off after chesskid3, heading towards the church as fast as his trenchcoat will go. He sees chesskid3 standing on the roof, but he's not alone. Unable to stop, Xalxe both grabs hold of chesskid3's throat and sends everyone into the church tower.

Kcdaspot: 2-1=1

Kcdaspot continues struggling to get the door open. After a few moments on introspective though, he realizes that Fate must hate him. Fate soon proves him wrong. Looking up, he sees a dark shape descending upon him.

chesskid3: 5

Flexing his wings and muscles, chesskid3 smashes a hole in the roof and dives down into the church. He sees Kcdaspot and picks him up. He beats his wings forcefully to lift the exceedingly grateful Kcdaspot back to the roof. Just in time to be strangled by Xalxe. At least the crash somehow smothers out Kcdaspot's arm-fire.

jmj3000: 2

jmj3000 franticly searches for his bag. Much to his dismay, he can't find it after a few minutes of intense effort. He returns to the living room to formulate a new plan.

Zodiark13: 5

Zodiark13 does a cursory sweep of the room, looking for anything to keep the door locked. Incredibly, it seems that the original hardened-steel padlock and key were conveniently lying in a box near the front of the bunker. Theh door is soon locked against any outside threats.

Reecer6: 5

After a few minutes of intense partying, Reecer6 opens the door to let the zombies leave. It is only after they stand outside for a few seconds that they remember their goal in life: to eat Reecer. Reecer6 laughs hysterically and slams the door shut.

As chesskid3 rebounds from the bell tower with Kcdaspot hanging on for dear life, Xalxe dives, circles, and rises to strike chesskid3 in the abdomen. With a mighty pull, he rips chesskid3's stomach open, and yanks out from amid the rain of half-digested Hot Pockets and energy drinks the badly-injured remains of his beloved bobcat.

chesskid3: 5

...chesskid3 howls in pain and snaps his wings together on Xalxe, tearing the latter's trenchcoat near in half. As Xalxe falls in a hail of sparks to the roof of the church, still holding his bobcat, chesskid3 wheels and flies away, sinking as the pain begins to overwhelm his andrenaline. Knowing he cannot stay aloft long, he aims for a nearby rooftop, and has just enough time to hear the unexpected sound of trance music before crashing through.

chesskid3 and Kcdaspot are now in the attic of the same house Reecer6 is in.

Xalxe is now on the roof of the church. His trenchcoat is currently inoperable.

jmj3000: 2

Searching yet again for his bag, jmj3000 decides to see if there is a basement. He finds a set of stairs and carefully walks down them, not knowing what to expect. They lead to a rather large room with concrete walls. He can't see much farther than a couple feet, and the light switches fails to provide any illumination.

Zodiark13: 5

Trying again to gain a sixth sense, Zodiark13 mentally dives into his subconscious. After several seconds of searching, he finds a small sphere glowing brightly in the back of his mind. It seems to emanate immense power, and Zodiark13 knows it could help alleviate the zombie problem.

Zodiark13 has gained

psychic powers

. He may query these powers for a chance to gain useful information.

Reecer6: 2

Reecer6 lies down on the couch in the TV room, head swimming from the after-effects of variations chemicals. He soon hears a faint crash coming from upstairs, but declines to investigate. The snoring starts a few seconds later.

As the battle over the church rages, zombies once again begin to accumulate in the vicinity. A few even enter the church briefly, although the growing plume of smoke escaping from the back door and window drives them out again.

As Xalxe lies catching his breath on the church roof, the crackling sounds of burning inside become noticeable even over the constant moaning.

"Now, I know you can do this. This is the ultimate climax we've been waiting for. Now," Xalxe says, lunging forward to take grip on the cat, "

The bobcat, taking all this into consideration, opts to do so - but in a slightly different manner than intended. With a roar and much tearing claws, it fights its way free of its clearly-delusional owner and races off across the roof.

"No, come back! Take me with you!" yells Xalxe. He scrambles to his feet and rushes off in pursuit.

Whereupon the roof collapses under his feet.

Xalxe has fallen into the burning church building

and has now died

The bobcat has successfully jumped across to the tree behind the church, where it is presently trapped by the mob of zombies below.

Kcdaspot: 5

Discovering how badly chesskid3 had been injured, Kcdaspot decides getting a bit of assistance might be in order. Lifting chesskid3 carefully, Kcdaspot drops through the trapdoor from the attic to the second floor and carries chesskid3 to the living room.

Seeing Reecer6 sprawled on the couch, drooling, Kcdaspot realizes there will be no help from that quarter, and sets chesskid3 on the dining room table instead. Conveniently, the first aid kid with the casting powder is still sitting out, and Kcdaspot pulls on a pair of nitrile gloves, takes out needle and thread, and sets to work.

chesskid3 is stabilized. He will be at -1 next turn, and at risk of reopening his wounds if he is not careful.

chesskid3: 4-2 = 2

Through the whole process, chesskid3 is fading in and out. He mutters vaguely about helping Kcdaspot and Reecer6 with the first aid, but is never really coherent enough to do anything until after the medical work is over.

jmj3000: 1

jmj3000 stumbles down the stairs, holding onto the railing for dear life. He looks around, trying to figure out where a flashlight may lie. He soon finds himself in almost complete darkness. The only light comes from the top of the stairs.

Zodiark13: 5

Plunging back into the power in his mind, a series of images flash across his eyes. Xalxe writhing in flames, a bobcat in a tree, a horde of zombies approaching a house, and jmj3000 blindly groping around a dark room ... being watched by a dark figure.

Reecer6: 1

Ignoring the noises above, Reecer6 sprawls out on the couch and closes his eyes to concentrate on developing psychic powers. He passes out almost instantly.

Reecer6 is sleeping off the drugs. He will remain asleep until he is awakened or awakens himself.

Feeling carefully for anything of value, jmj3000 finds a large set of shelves. He runs his hands across the surface, but the shelves are empty. As he reaches the end, however, he finds a box with a large switch and flips it - activating a bank of theater lights lining one wall of the basement.

jmj3000 is blinded. He will be at -2 for any action involving sight next turn.

Zodiark13: 6

Peering into his mind, Zodiark13 consults his powers. The stream of information he receives passes by so quickly as to be nearly incomprehensible, but he manages to come away with one thing: shaped charges penetrate armor better than bullets.

Zodiark13 has a headache. He will be at -1 next turn (-2 if his action involves his psychic powers).

Reecer6: 6

Reecer6 consults his subconscious for more information about the zombie situation. He is overwhelmed by the array of images and is unable to comprehend any of them. His brain is now too fatigued to do anything but sleep.

Klazam is awoken by a sudden flash of light illuminating the basement. He bolts upright, frantically scanning around and managing to smash his face into the cinderblock wall.

Taking his flashlight into his hand, AurorusVox sneaks up behind the intruder and swings at his head. The sudden light distracts him, however, and he only catches jmj3000's shoulder.

Kcdaspot sits back in a chair to watch some chesskid3 awesomeness, only wishing for some popcorn. He is sorely disappointed, as chesskid3 decides to hold off on zombie killing for the moment.

chesskid3: 5

chesskid3 finds just the thing for a Reecer6-revival job. Namely, a bucket and ice-cold water. Reecer6 is rudely awakened a few seconds later.

jmj3000 wheels around, fists swinging wildly. He is unable to see his attacker, however, and solidly connects with the nearest slate-rock wall.

Upon being doused, Reecer6 bolts upright with a yelp, awakening abruptly from his deep sleep. He spends the next few moments shaking water out of his hair and straightening his 'do.

Klazam: 1

Klazam decides to use his awe-inspiring physique to help poor jmj3000 around. Upon grabbing his arm, he realizes that it's covered in blood. For all his manliness, Klazam has a deathly fear of blood, stemming from a childhood incident involving an apple pie and a straw. He promptly faints, and his 250-pound figure is soon lying limply on the floor.

a zombie, AurorusVox soon convinces the blinded and pained jmj3000 that he and Klazam are also living.

The Bobcat

As the bobcat shakes the glass out of its fur, it suddenly recognizes chesskid3 as the man who so rudely digested it earlier. With a yowl, it leaps away from chesskid3, over the table and towards Reecer6...

Reecer6: 6

...who wildly but rapidly fires off two completely ineffective target-shooting bullets into the bobcat before it bowls him over and runs off. His rifle goes flying and his breath is knocked out, but the motorcycle leathers protect him from the cat's claws. Unfortunately...

chesskid3: 4

...right behind the cat comes chesskid3, who has decided that with Xalxe dead having a bobcat on his side is a good idea. With one swipe of a wing, the table goes flying, and a moment later, chesskid3 has seized Reecer6 by the legs and slammed him against the wall, breaking Reecer6's skull. He then hurries off in pursuit of the bobcat, leaving...

Kcdaspot: 5

...Kcdaspot, who decides to finish the job by pitching Reecer6 bodily through the broken window into the mob of zombies, then propping the table against the window to barricade it.

Recognizing the silence for a bad sign in a small enclosed space, Zodiark13 starts searching the walls to find the vents and air handlers. He has some difficulty concentrating through his headache, but he eventually finds a panel which probably hides the pumps. He sits down panting, trying to figure some way to open the panel without a screwdriver.

jmj3000: 1

Blinking the afterimages out of his eyes and cradling his broken hand, jmj3000 climbs the steps to the first floor and begins hunting about for a medicine kit. He starts on the back porch.

AurorusVox: 6

Concerned for the injured jmj3000, AurorusVox hurries up the stairs after him. He arrives at the top in time to see jmj3000 vanish onto the back porch and hear a loud thump and a yell, and rushes onto the porch himself.

Where he falls through the same hole in the floor as jmj3000.

jmj3000 has had the breath knocked out of him. He will have an additional -1 next turn.

AurorusVox has landed badly and twisted his ankle. He will have a -1 for anything involving walking next turn.

As all this goes on, Klazam tries to get back onto his feet. Unfortunately, he sits up too quickly, and his head starts swimming. He has to lie down again.

...that not only has chesskid3 already effected the bobcat's

"Oh, sorry, mate," says AurorusVox, shifting his feet off jmj3000.

Zodiark13 delves into his psyche yet again to aid him in opening the steel panel. Using telepathy, he gently coaxes out the four screws holding the panel shut. It falls to the ground, revealing a complex network of switches, pipes, and various other bits and pieces.

Note: the air is growing thin. If Zodiark13 does not either leave or repair the air handlers, he will suffer penalties in following turns.

Klazam: 3

Klazam stands up and dusts himself off. He has to shield his eyes from the glare of the strobes, but looking around he discovers that he is alone in the room.

Turn 30 Resolution

Kcdaspot: 4

Having climbed to the attic of the house, Kcdaspot has no difficultly vaulting from a crate through the hole onto the roof, from which he can see for several blocks in all directions. Laying down so as to avoid punching through, he circles the house, looking down at the loose crowds of zombies milling around on the nearby streets. There is one denser clump immediately below the window where Reecer6 landed, another in the vicinity of the tree behind the church, and, further away, more accumulated near the liquor store. There is still smoke rising from the church, but gathering clouds suggest that a good rain might put it out soon.

chesskid3: 6

After following Kcdaspot into the attic, chesskid3 leaves his bobcat behind to provide local support and takes off for the skies. The incoming front provides good currents for him to catch, and he spends some time swooping and circling, observing the general lack of visible life in the surrounding area and, as he crosses the main street, the damage left by the bombs ... was it only yesterday? It feels more like 75 days.

In any case, the city seems mostly dead. The only living person visibly from the sky is a figure on top of a bomb-damaged office building holding what looks rather like a scoped hunting rifle. chesskid3 finds it a little hard to tell exactly what kind, because it is quite foreshortened. And tracking him.

jmj3000: 5

Pushing AurorusVox's muscular figure off, jmj3000 stands up and checks out his surroundings. He has to stoop because of the "roof," which is actually the floor of the porch. It's a fairly small space. One wall is the foundation of the house, while the other three are wood. In front of him, he can see the underside of the stairs leading down from the porch. Overall, it's a fairly boring, cramped space without anything to see.

Zodiark13: 5

Zodiark13 quickly finds a manual on the set of shelves and sets to work on the ventilation system. Using both hand tools and psychic powers, he soon gets the pumps running again. He is relieved to hear the comforting sound and feel of cool, circulating air.

Klazam: 5

Klazam hears a crash from upstairs and goes to investigate. Standing inside the kitchen, he sees a gaping hole in the back porch. He looks down into the darkness, and makes out the figures of his two companions.

AurorusVox: 1

As jmj3000 is rising, AurorusVox attempts to reach down and give him a hand. Unfortunately, he puts his weight down on his injured ankle, and goes down like a sack of potatoes.

After receiving instructions from its new friend, the bobcat jumps up from the attic room onto the roof. As it lands, it sees Kcdaspot looking out at the street, and launches itself at his leg. Unfortunately for it, Kcdaspot happens to roll away to one side before it lands, and it skitters off the edge, tangling itself in the gutters. A sound of tearing metal can be heard as the latter begin to tear themselves off the building.

Kcdaspot: 6

As soon as he sees the bobcat go over the edge, Kcdaspot springs into action. Laying halfway off the edge of roof, he carefully reaches down to catch the dangling gutters and slowly pull them back towards the building. Unfortunately, while he's hanging on, the bobcat tries to climb up, and Kcdaspot begins sliding. Selflessly, he catches the bobcat by the scruff of the neck and pitches it back onto the roof - but has time to do no more than that before the entire thing starts unrolling and drops him heavily on the ground.

Amazingly, he realizes that he doesn't seem injured. A moment later, he realizes that this might not last, what with the number of zombies in the vicinity.

chesskid3: 2

Reacting instinctively to being in the sights of a sniper, chesskid3 swerves and dives to get out of the line of fire. Unfortunately, is a bit slow to pull up, and is forced to crash-land in a construction yard, disoriented and alone.

jmj3000: 5-1 = 4

Realizing that his injury should be taken care of, jmj3000 searches through the splinters and debris from the hole and finds a usable piece of wood to strap to his hand to keep the pieces where they belonged. Pulling a long piece of cloth out of a pocket, he soon has the hand wrapped up.

Zodiark13: 6

Images begin to flicker past in Zodiark13's mind, telling the story of an older man, wealthy and paranoid, whose fear led him to begin work on a secret shelter during the sixties. You see the passage of time as he shovels out cubic foot after cubic foot of soil, as he buys sand, rocks, and cement, as he designs an air filtration system and pumps, and the quiet, celebratory drink he downs when the shelter is finally complete.

After a moment, he realizes that this knowledge is essentially useless.

Klazam: 2

Seeing jmj3000 and AurorusVox in the space under the porch, Klazam yells, "Just a sec, let me tie a rope!" and glances around looking for a suitable piece of rope and a place to tie it.

The former, he finds, conveniently enough. The latter ... not.

AurorusVox: 6

In the meantime, however, AurorusVox has noticed that the distance is not so very large and climbed out himself. Not bothering to dust himself off, he wanders the ground floor looking for armaments, eventually ending up in the garage. Underneath a tarp, there, he finds an ancient, dusty box of dynamite. So ancient, in fact, that the sticks on top have sweated out their nitroglycerin - nitroglycerin which has presumably pooled in the bottom of the box.

Ready to explode at the slightest jostle.

As chesskid3 shakes off the dust, the wind rises and a wall of rain sweeps over the area. Line of sight is reduced to mere yards, and runoff begins pouring down the street and through the hole in the roof.

2. chesskid3: Fly back to help Kcdaspot.

Kcdaspot: 4

Kcdaspot takes a deep breath and yells, "Bobcat! A little help, please?" Not waiting for a response, he bounces a couple times to loosen up, decides the mob is thinner to the south, away from the church, and starts demonstrating that feet are good for more than running.

A moment later, a large furry missile divebombs a nearby zombie into the ground and takes up position at his side. Unfortunately, not being tall enough to strike the zombies at brain level, the bobcat doesn't do much more than blunt the charge.

chesskid3: 4

Taking advantage of the low visibility, chesskid3 jumps back up and starts flying towards his best guess of where the house is. Swooping in low above the roofs, he sees a flurry of activity at street level outside, where Kcdaspot and the bobcat are struggling to break through the zombies to the open streets.

jmj3000: 1

jmj3000 tries yet again to climb out of the abyss. He carefully positions his injured hand on the edge, and pulls himself up with his other hand. He manages to make it halfway out before driving a splinter deep into his noninjured hand. He clutches it in pain, howling, and falls back under the porch.

Zodiark13: 2

Zodiark13 does a sweep of his personal bunker for any weapons or cures for zombies. The bunker is void of any sharp or dangerous objects, and he can't find the key to the gun safe.

Klazam: 5

Abandoning his quest to rescue jmj3000 and AurorusVox, Klazam goes a-hunting for zombie protective equipment. Eventually, he finds a large chest under a bed which turns out to contain, along with a variety of Society for Creative Anachronism doodads...

...

Klazam is now wearing armor.

AurorusVox: 4

AurorusVox begins to search the shelves for a toolbox, warily eyeing the dynamite the whole time. He soon finds a small toolbox with some basic hand tools, including a hammer, flathead and phillips screwdrivers, a set of wrenches, and a saw.

1. Kcdaspot: Continue laying the smack down on the zombies, with the Bobcat being a badass undead ass kicker.

2. chesskid3: Pick the bobcat up and fly so the bobcat is at zombie-brain level and clear a path to the street.

4. Zodiark13: Find the keys to the gun safe.

Kcdaspot: 2

Kcdaspot charges at the zombies, hoping to inflict damage and possibly intimidate them. The undead don't feel pain, however, so his flurry of blows have no effect. They begin to circle around him. It won't be long until he is surrounded.

chesskid3: 1

chesskid3 swings around and drops down towards ground level, sweeping up behind Kcdaspot to catch the bobcat and hold it up where it could do more damage.

He misjudges the altitude. A fair bit, actually.

chesskid3 has crash-landed in the street near the house. He will not be able to take off immediately, and is surrounded by zombies.

jmj3000: 2

jmj3000 decides to give up on his efforts and get aid from somebody else. He tries to yell for the others to help him, but the recent passage of AurorusVox and himself has stirred up quite a bit of dust, and he ends up coughing instead.

Zodiark13: 3

Zodiark13 carefully searches the bunker yet again. Using his psychic intuition to help him, he soon finds a set of keys. After trying a few, he finds one that fits the gun box. Inside, he finds a Colt Python .357 Magnum loaded with 6 full metal jacket bullets. There are 24 more loose rounds as well, along with a nice leather holster. He soon has the gun on his hip and the bullets in his pocket.

Klazam: 5

Searching around more in the bedrooms, Klazam finds some medieval weaponry to match his medieval armor. He finds a steel two-handed battleaxe and two small throwing-axes. These add more to the intimidation factor as he heads towards into the front parlour, ready to kill some zombies.

AurorusVox: 2

AurorusVox closes up the toolbox and starts looking around the garage for spare wood. He spends some time at this fruitlessly, and when he returns to where he found the tools, he discovers he set them down somewhere else and has forgotten where.

Following Kcdaspot's lead, chesskid3 launches himself at the zombies. Using both his limbs and wings, he beats a path towards Kcdaspot. He knocks a few zombies down, but they slowly get back up. He and Kcdaspot are soon standing back-to-back, surrounded by a crowd of zombies.

Unfortunately for the dynamic duo, chesskid3 is paying no attention to the bobcat, who seems to be quite disgruntled over this. It charges in and attacks with one precise swipe, right in the worst place.

chesskid3 collapses in pain. He will be at -2 for the next turn.

jmj3000: 5

When Klazam throws down the rope, jmj3000 catches it with one hand and hauls away to pull himself up. Bracing with the elbow rather than his injured hand, he soon has himself out.

Zodiark13: 3

Zodiark13 does one more sweep of the bunker. He finds a small backpack before calling it quits. All of his supplies are soon in the backpack.

Klazam: 6

After throwing down one end of the rope, Klazam begins wrapping it around his arm so he holds it securely. Unfortunately, just as he has it wrapped, jmj3000 hauls away at it, pulling him off-balance so he falls down face-first.

Klazam has a nosebleed. He will be -1 next turn for pain.

AurorusVox: 6

Finding the toolkit on a nearby pile of debris, AurorusVox opens the garage door to scout the neighborhood for zombies. He finds them quite quickly. Instantly, in fact.

Three zombies are entering the garage by the now-open door.

He pales at the sight. The bobcat

abandoned chesskid3's gentleman's vegetables, but it seems to have developed an interest in a new pair. It crouches, ready to spring.

Kcdaspot turns and runs like hell. Straight through the zombies.

Kcdaspot is now across the main street and at the opposite side of the strip mall parking lot, free of the zombies. He has lost the bobcat somewhere in the mob. He has also been bitten.

hunt seeking his bag. He begins turning the place upside down - looking under tables, behind couches ... and discovers that he had left the bag on top of a pile of newspapers which collapsed behind him.

Zodiark13 walks the circumference of the room, looking for some panel that might hide a secret escape in the walls or ceiling. He fails to notice the cot on the floor.

Zodiark13 has barked his shins. He will be -1 for pain next turn.

Klazam: 3-1 = 2

Klazam makes his way though the house toward the garage, but has some trouble finding the door. He hears the sounds of fighting, but he can see no way to get to it through the clutter.

AurorusVox: 5

AurorusVox's hail of screwdrivers, pliers, and wrenches manages to drive the three zombies back - they are now outside the garage and clear of the door.

Each additional turn that passes the chance will rise by 1/6th - so, 1 or 2 after turn 37; 1, 2, or 3 after turn 38; 1, 2, 3, or 4 after turn 39; and so on.

Turn 36 Resolution

Kcdaspot: 1

Having cleared the mass of zombies, and with no bobcat in sight, Kcdaspot discovers the zombie bites while checking himself over. He takes a deep breath, and releases it.

No way am I becoming one of those,

he thinks.

'Remove the head or destroy the brain' - no gun, so I better go for the former.

Searching his pockets and the surroundings, Kcdaspot decides the most likely place to get something that can cut off a head would be the kitchen supply store. Still breathing hard from his little sprint, he walks over ... only to discover that the gate is down and locked. His attempts to pry it open prove fruitless.

Zombification roll: 2 > 1. Kcdaspot is still human.

chesskid3: 1

chesskid3 curses loudly as he throws the zombies off his wings and arms. Seeing the blood leaking from the bitemarks, he grits his teeth.

"Bobs, I think we're in a bit of trouble", he says conversationally, looking around to try to find where the cat had gone. "Do you see anything over there I can use to end it honora..."

His voice trails off. Looking down, he can see a knot of zombies crowded around a pool of blood, with distinctive pieces of spotted fur scattered about. And as his blood rises, chesskid3 forgets entirely about his decision, and with a full-bodied roar he charges.

The bobcat is dead. The zombies surrounding the corpse of the bobcat have been variously crushed, torn, and maimed.

Zombification roll: 2 > 1. chesskid3 is still human.

jmj3000: 1

Oblivious to the drama unfolding a few blocks away, jmj3000 hefts the his ammo bag over his shoulder and searches the house again for some more ammo. He checks the entire house, focusing on the as-yet-unexplored recesses of the basement and upper floor. Finding nothing of interest inside, he proceeds out into the back yard to check the shed.

There's no ammo there, either, although there are a couple zombies.

Zodiark13: 5-1 = 4

After a short break, Zodiark13 returns to searching for a second exit. After scouring the roof, he decides that it is completely barren. He then focuses his attention to the ground. He finds a square panel in the floor, but there is no discernible way to open it. Tapping it, Zodiark13 hears a hollow sound, showing that there is something beneath it.

Klazam: 1

Klazam takes out his two smaller axes and starts wildly hacking. Unfortunately, he is unable or perhaps unwilling to control his swings, and therefore hits the handle of one of them rather strongly against a stud in the wall, shattering the handle. The head continues hurdling forward, embedding itself in the plywood. Klazam now holds an axe and a splintered stick.

AurorusVox: 4

Repacking his tools into the toolbox, AurorusVox carefully opens the door and peeks outside. Seeing no undead in the immediate area, he slowly steps outside. He sees two of the three formerly-threatening zombies heading off in the general direction of the church, apparently attracted to the spilled blood from the fighting in that direction, and the third circling the house. AurorusVox quietly backs away towards the street, where there are no apparent threats.

Kcdaspot: 2

Giving up his struggle with the gate, Kcdaspot takes a few steps back to look up and down the strip mall again. He rubs his eyes, trying to rub the fatigue out of them, then begins to walk towards a Chinese food restaurant storefront. He stumbles. He falls.

He rises.

Zombification roll: 2 = 2. Kcdaspot has turned.

chesskid3: 4

chesskid3 pulls out a Bowie knife and charges the zombie mob. Within seconds he is beaten back, with even more bites and scratches than before. Realizing the end is near, he readies himself to commit seppuku. Not being entirely sure what "seppuku" is, he takes a wild guess that cutting his own throat will do. With a burst of sheer determination, he grabs the Bowie knife and shoves it straight through his own throat, severing the spinal cord and preventing further zombification.

chesskid3 is now dead.

jmj3000: 5

Racking the first shell home, jmj3000 runs up to the zombies, racks a shell home, and fires at the closest one. The buckshot slams into the zombie's head, tearing the decomposing skull brain to shreds. He racks the shotgun and fires at the second zombie. The left side of its head and neck are torn off, and the zombie falls to the ground with a moan.

The next shell being a slug, jmj3000 takes out the third and final zombie from across the yard with a well-placed headshot. The path to the shed is now free of zombies.

jmj3000's shotgun is now loaded with 3 slugs; his bag contains two 10-shell boxes of buckshot (one full, one with 3 missing) and one 10-shell box of slugs (with 4 missing). [

Note: I seem to have made a continuity goof somewhere concerning jmj3000's spare ammunition - replace "birdshot" with "buckshot" where necessary, and pretend one of the three original boxes was slugs. -- PB

Zodiark13: 1

Zodiark13 quickly grabs a screwdriver and enthusiastically begins prying at the panel. The panel refuses to budge, and the screwdriver snaps. Zodiark13 falls forward and drives the splintered end into his leg.

Zodiark13 will have a -1 penalty next turn for pain and inability to move quickly.

Klazam: 5

Klazam yanks the axehead out of the wall and walks into the garage. He finds a coil of rope and cuts himself a six-foot length from it. He securely ties one end to the base of the axehead, and twirls it experimentally. It seems to make a potent weapon.

Klazam now has a sort of axehead flail.

AurorusVox: 2

AurorusVox turns around back towards the house, wondering who made the noise he heard. He finds that the garage door has closed behind him and is now locked. Through the class, he can see Klazam standing at the rear of the garage. He calls Klazam to open the door, but Klazam is too engrossed in his new toy to bother.

Suddenly, as Zodiark13 is trying to staunch the bleeding from his leg, there is a loud metallic clacking, and then the hatch opens into the shelter. A teenager wearing a purple jacket has just climbed out and is giving a hand to a second sartorially-...vibrant individual when they notice the shelter is not unoccupied.

"Who are you?" the latter figure asks.

CSL and animorpherv1 have joined the game.

1. jmj3000: Go to the house next door and scour it for ammo.

jmj3000: 1

jmj3000 proceeds towards the neighboring house to check for more ammo. With a well-placed blow from shotgun's stock, he breaks down the door and enters. He checks the main and upper floor, but they are barren of ammo. He descends into the dark basement, but is unable to find anything.

He hears a moan and looks up. At the top of the stairs, he sees three dark, decaying figures silouetted against the light.

Zodiark13: 4-1 = 3

Once his new teammates are safely inside the bunker, Zodiark13 casually drops the panel back down. It slams into the recess, jammed tightly. At which point he remembers that there was no handle to open it from inside the shelter.

AurorusVox: 4

With zombies approaching, AurorusVox frantically hammers on the window of the door to get the attention of the person inside. He sees their head turn towards the door and walk towards him....

Klazam:6

Eager to go medieval on some zombies, Klazam hefts his battleaxe and cleaves the door in two. He steps outside next to AurorusVox, ready for battle.

So are the twenty or so zombies staring at the strange man in the shiny clothing.

CSL: 6

CSL waves her wand and utters a foreign chant. A bluish-white, giant leopard appears in the middle of the bunker. It growls and looks around, examining its strange new environment. Its steely eyes fixate on CSL, the evil fairy who tore it from its spiritual world.

It pounces at her, but is only able to knock her wand aside. She is still uninjured.... for now.

animorpherv1: 3

Narrowly avoiding the vicious Snow Leopard, animorpherv1 helps the injured Zodiark13 up, but is unable to do anything about the splintered screwdriver imbedded in Zodiark13's leg.

Turn 39 Resolution

jmj3000: 6

jmj3000 backs away slowly, carefully eyeing the zombies while simultaneously loading his shotgun with some more slugs. He aims and fires, taking out the first zombie. The other two watch their comrade fall, then turn back to face jmj3000. With a moan, they begin walking down the stairs. jmj3000 takes aim at the closest one and fires. The slug narrowly misses the zombie and smashes into the doorframe. jmj3000 racks his shotgun and kills the zombie with a headshot.

By now, the third zombie is nearly upon him. He spins wildly, firing another slug. This one also misses and hits the other side of the doorframe. jmj3000 smashes the zombie's face with the shotgun's stock, and fires at its head pointblank. The zombie's head explodes, and bits of decaying flesh fall onto jmj3000.

He hears a crashing sound and looks upstairs. The doorframe and surrounding wall and ceiling have collapsed, trapping him inside the basement, which suddenly turns pitch-black.

Zodiark13: 3

Staying well away from CSL and the snow leopard, Zodiark13 gingerly leans against the wall, braces, and holds up his leg so animorpherv1 can get at the piece of metal still caught in his leg.

Klazam: 5

Pushing the lowly peasant named AurorusVox out of the way, Klazam steps forward and readies himself for battle. Slowly twirling his flail, he grins at the zombies. They charge at him en masse. He jumps to the side, swinging the axehead at the first group. The razor-sharp blade cuts through their necks like butter, and the first five fall.

Klazam nimbly jumps away from the surviving zombies, spinning the flail over his head. Suddenly it lashes out, and decapitates several more zombies. Unfortunately, it gets caught in the mob and is torn from Klazam's grasp. He drags out his battleaxe and charges. He seems to disappear inside a whirl of dead flesh and grabbing hands.

A minute later, Klazam is able to retrieve his flail. Piles of decapitated zombies and smashed heads surround him. He pulls out a cloth and begins polishing his axes. When he is done, he nonchalantly leans against his battleaxe and whistles as he waits for his partner.

AurorusVox: 3

As Klazam sets to work on the mob outside the house, AurorusVox grabs a claw hammer from among the wreckage on the driveway and levers away at a loose piece of plank from the garage door. With some effort, he manages to get it free, and it takes but a minute afterwards to collect a few nails from the tool chest and hammer them through.

Thus equipped, he stands and turns, only to discover that Klazam has already killed all the zombies in the mob, cleaned his axes, and arranged himself in an irritatingly smug pose.

"Oh," AurorusVox says.

AurorusVox now has a nail board.

CSL: 2

CSL frantically tries to calm the leopard down. The leopard apparently wants no part of this, and swipes at its wand-less (and therefore powerless) foe.

CSL now has a clawed arm. She will have a -1 penalty next turn.

animorpherv1: 6

As Zodiark13 braces himself, animorpherv1 carefully examines the piece of screwdriver lodged in his leg. After a moment, he concludes that it should be straightforward enough to simply pull it back out. He grips the end of it, braces, and hauls away.

Blood spurts out behind it. Into animorpherv1's eyes.

Zodiark13 is now bleeding quite badly. He will be at -2 next turn.

animorpherv1 is blinded. He will be at -1 for anything involving sight next turn.

Spoiler: Turn 40 Actions

1. jmj3000: Find a way out.

2. Zodiark13: Do nothing.

3. Klazam: Scout out some place where i can loot food, but make sure that i'm close to AV, so i can protect the poor helpless lemon dude that he is.

As jmj3000's eyes slowly adjust to the darkness, he realizes that the room is not entirely pitch-black - there is hints of light coming from across the room. Carefully picking his way across the basement, jmj3000 finds a grime-encrusted door on the far wall, which opens to show a staircase leading up to ground level.

Zodiark13: 3-2 = 1

As the metal is pulled from Zodiark13's leg, he yelps in pain. A moment later, he falls down, his face locked in a grimace.

Klazam: 5

"Ah, it is a glorious day!" announces Klazam, strutting down the street. "Sun up above, zombies down below, and axes in the middle to keep them down!" He turns and gestures to AurorusVox to catch up. "Yes, all is well, and soon we will be provided with wealth and abundance of the only sort that matters here - victuals, to keep us all hale and hearty while we smite these pestilential fellows striving to vex us," he continues. "Ah! This is the place."

Klazam has found a neighborhood grocery store a few blocks from the house.

AurorusVox: 2

Muttering darkly to himself, and holding his nail board in one hand and toolchest in the other, AurorusVox hurries to keep up with Klazam, glancing nervously about in case further zombies arrive. The appearance of the grocery comes as a complete surprise.

CSL: 2

As Zodiark13 collapses, CSL rushes over to lend aid, meeting animorpherv1 wiping his eyes. "Quick, we need to patch him up - hand me a bandage," she says. "Hey, I was about to tie up his wounds!" replies animorpherv1. "Besides, I don't have any bandages - shouldn't you find one? You can see." They bicker for a few moments, before they are abruptly interrupted by the appearance of the snow leopard. While they watch, it attempts to slash Zodiark13 with one great paw, but his position in the corner protects him, and it only lands a grazing blow.

Spoiler: Turn 41 Actions

1. jmj3000: Go up stairs and claer the ground level.

2. Zodiark13: Launch a psychic attack at the snow leopard, then panic.

3. Klazam: find items for a good burger in the store, and set up a grill outside, ready for a nice cookout.

4. AurorusVox: Search the grocery store for chocolate.

5. CSL: Convince the Snow Leopard that we're not evil.

6. animorpherv1: Soothe the Snow Leopard with a calming song.

Having recovered from the terror of near-death by zombies, jmj3000 carefully climbs the outside stairs and goes back into the house on the ground floor. Hunting about, however, he only finds the ones he already killed in the pile of rubble where the basement stairs were.

Zodiark13: 3

Zodiark13 sends a psychic wave at the snow leopard, hoping to incapacitate it. The leopard seems disoriented for the moment, but it won't be for long. Zodiark13 takes the opportunity to scream rather loudly for a couple seconds.

Klazam: 2

Klazam walks around the entire store, but he soon discovers the entire meat section has been ravaged, leaving little but torn pieces of greasy waxed paper and plastic wrap in the bins. Worse, there are no grills anywhere. He does, however, find some wilted lettuce, miscellaneous bottles of ketchup, and a package of buns which is only half-moldy.

AurorusVox: 5

Walking past the disappointed Klazam, AurorusVox scans the aisles. He soon finds what he is looking for: the candy aisle. He walks down the aisle, looking at the shelves filled with delicious chocolate. He picks out a five-pound bar, a chocolate bunny, and a box each of truffles and chocolate chip cookies before heading back to his fellow looter.

CSL: 5

The snow leopard recovers from its disoriented state and its eyes flash to CSL. It charges at her, intent on eating her whole. It pounces on her and growls menacingly.

"Whoa, whoa boy!" CSL screams. "We don't want to hurt you!"

Surprisingly, the leopard responds to this and looks curiously at CSL and then the other two people in the room, one of whom is busily scribbling in the corner. It crawls off CSL and waits for her to get up, then proceeds to lick her.

"Hey, I think it likes you!" Zodiark13 states the obvious truth.

"I think I'll name you Riley!" CSL says to the leopard and she pets it. Riley purrs approvingly and rubs against her leg.

animorpherv1: 3

The whole time, animorpherv1 has been quickly writing a song on a small notepad he found in a corner. Ignoring the noises coming from behind him, he finishes the song and starts to sing. The song is quite horrible, and seems to be a request for the leopard not to eat them. It doesn't do much other than annoy the other survivors. The leopard seems to like it though.

Turn 42 Resolution

jmj3000: 4

Safely inside the next house, jmj3000 begins another search for ammo. In one of the upstairs closets he finds a two boxes of 00 buckshot, making for 24 shells altogether. He is unable to find anything else.

Klazam: 2

Klazam greedily eyes AurorusVox's chocolate collection, mainly the chocolate bunny.

"May I have some?" He pleads. But AurorusVox refuses.

Filled with anger, Klazam lunges at the chocolate bunny....

AurorusVox: 4

AurorusVox nimbly sidesteps and swings his impromptu weapon at Klazam's head. It knocks him silly, but none of the nails actually penetrate.

Klazam will have a -1 next turn for disorientation.

Zodiark13: 6

The situation with the leopard resolved, Zodiark13 drops to the floor and says, "Can I get a hand, now? My leg is still bleeding."

CSL: 2

Hearing Zodiark13's request, CSL rises to her feet to give aid - when the leopard leans foward and mewls, blocking her way. She seems to think that CSL can give her food. However...

animorpherv1: 6

...animorpherv1 has no such obstacle, and sets to work. Taking advantage of the sartorial choices accompanying the career of "rock star", he pulls various pins, needles, and threads from his jeans and sews the wound securely closed.

Unfortunately, when he takes a step back to admire his work, he discovers that some of those pins were ... structural.

animorpherv1 has dropped the left half of a pair of artfully-torn pants (worn).

Spoiler: Turn 43 Actions

1. jmj3000: Search the house for a gun cabinet.

2. Zodiark13: Laugh at at ani having no pants, then look for food for the snow leopard.

3. Klazam:

Ax AurorusVox, then take his chocolates from his twitching hand

convince AV to stop smashing me in the head, and share his chocolates.

4. AurorusVox: Repeatedly smash Klazam over the head.

5. CSL: Find food for Riley.

6. animorpherv1: Get new pants.

Turn 43 Resolution

jmj3000: 3

jmj3000 walks carefully up the stairs, shotgun ready for any zombies. On the floor, he sees an empty box of shotgun ammo. Figuring a gun safe must be close by, he checks the master bedroom. He bashes open the only locked closet and goes inside. He finds a medium-sized safe, big enough for only a couple guns. It has a combination lock, and jmj3000's efforts to open it are frustrated.

Zodiark13: 6

Zodiark13 bursts into a fit of laughter at seeing the pantless animorpherv1. After recovering, he tries to find leopard-food for Riley. So intense is his concentration that he bumps into Riley from behind, earning a small scratch in response.

Klazam: 5-1 = 4

AurorusVox: 5

The street outside the convenience store is quiet. The trees, unaffected as yet by the spread of the zombies below, sway peacefully in the breeze. It is almost bucolic.

But not for long.

The door to the shop bursts open, and Klazam stumbles out, his hands protecting his face from AurorusVox as the latter follows him with the nailboard. In between the whacks his muffled voice can be heard.

"AV! I'm sorry! I just wanted a bit of chocolate - I didn't mean any trouble!"

As Klazam hurries backwards to the other side of the street, AurorusVox stops, his arm tired from all the swinging. He lets the nailboard hang loose for a moment as he stares piercingly at Klazam, who gingerly lowers his hands in reaction.

"Listen, I know you're the one who picked them all out, but we'll both live a lot longer if we work together. How's this for a deal: I help carry more chocolate in exchange for a few pieces. Is that all right? We have a deal?"

AurorusVox takes a deep breath and lets it out with a woosh. "Yeah, all right," he says. "I get half of what you carry."

"Deal."

The two of them turn and go back into the store to pick out more chocolates.

CSL: 2

CSL checks the bunker for food for Riley. She finds some empty tins and cans, but no actual food. By now the survivors have searched the entire bunker and taken everything useful.

animorpherv1: 3

Looking around, animorpherv1 finds some worn-out blue jeans. They are a tight fit, but they'll do.

Meanwhile, Riley is pacing the bunker, yowling for food and getting restless.

1. jmj3000: Search the room for the combination.

2. Zodiark13: Seek psychic inspiration.

3. Klazam: wander behind AV, happily nomming chocolates.

4. AurorusVox: Search for a bowling alley.

5. CSL: Seek a way outside.

6. animorpherv1: Sing.

Zodiark13 does a cursory sweep of the room, looking for anything to keep the door locked. Incredibly, it seems that the original hardened-steel padlock and key were conveniently lying in a box near the front of the bunker. Theh door is soon locked against any outside threats.
