The remaining four survivors charge to the top of the hill, satellite phone in-hand. Claire holds Aaron in her hands. She looks down at her son and a single tear rolls down her face as she remembers Charlie's death. Jack turns back to her. Kate puts a hand on her shoulder.
"Claire... Charlie died for a reason. His death will help us get off this isla--"
Suddenly, a gunshot rings out in the air. The three of them turn to see Benjamin Linus standing in their way.
"I'm afraid... I can't let you make that call, Jack."
Jack narrows his eyes at Ben before charging at him.
"Take one step closer and I'll shoot. I don't want to, Jack, but--"
Before he can finish, Jack lunges and takes him to the ground. His gun gets knocked away. Kate leaves Claire's side and tumbles to the gun, picking it up and drawing it on Ben. Jack begins to unload punch after punch into Ben's face until it is just a bloody mess of flesh and bone and blood. Ben spits up blood as he tries to talk.
"Please... you have no idea what you're doing here."
Jack smiles confidently.
"I know
exactly
what I'm doing."
He presses the call button on the radio. It buzzes and hums for a moment before a voice sputters to life on the other end. Jack excitedly begins to yell into the phone.
"Hello!? We're the survivors of Oceanic 815! Are you on the Freighter off the island? The one here to save us?"
"Hell yeah, we are! Hang on, let us get your coordinates! We're sending a team to come pick you guys up!"
Tears begin to stream from the faces of Jack, Kate, and Claire as Ben simply shakes his head.
"You have no idea what you've done. You've killed us all."
THREE YEARS LATER...
The air crackles as the mighty roars of planes taking off and landing overhead rip through the sky. Jack stands at the gate to the airport's runway, leaning against his beat up jeep. His clothes are dirty, his eyes are glazed, and his beard is unruly. Headlights flash across his face as a car pulls up. The driver's side door opens and Kate climbs out of the passenger's seat, marching over to Jack.
"What is this about, Jack?"
"Hey... hey Kate... it's good to see you..."
Kate brushes her hair back and looks away.
"You call me at midnight and say we have to meet because it's urgent... what's this all about?"
Jack looks down at the floor.
"I... I had a visit from our old friend."
"
Friend
? He's not
my
friend, Jack."
"He... he said that after we left... things got bad, Kate. Really bad."
Kate's eyes well up with tears and she begins to walk away.
"We can't live our lives thinking about them, Jack. We did what we thought was right."
"Kate, please."
"No, Jack. I have to go. He'll be wondering where I am."
Jack goes to grab her arm and Kate snatches it away.
"DON'T touch me."
She turns and walks to her car as Jack mutters under his breath.
"We have to go back, Kate..."
He trails off as Kate slams her car door and begins to drive off.
"WE HAVE TO GO BACK!"
