Rules

(borrowed and modified from Werebear; game-specific rules are in smallcaps)

  1. The mod is still god. There are some unusual roles and mechanics in this game. Feel free to PM me, but don't just assume I've made a mistake. I'll answer in thread if I have, but may not if it is intended behavior. I will not
    lie
to you, but I may not tell you the whole truth, either.
The mech tag is reserved for my use!

  2. Voting occurs as normal in this game; I encourage you to use the {vote} tags so that they are easier to spot.
  3. Once a majority has voted for someone, they will be removed from the game. There are no unvotes after that moment. At deadline, I may lower the vote total required slightly.
  4. Dead men (and those doing time in Federal prison) tell no tales. A brief 'Bah!' post is acceptable, but no game-related information can be shared.
  5. Nights will last around 72 hours, perhaps somewhat shorter in the late game. If you need an extension, let me know. Because of the complicated mechanics I encourage you to submit your choices earlier than 72 if possible; I will even take 'Twilight' choices by PM, within reason (such as
"If X flips Town, target Y, otherwise do nothing")
    .

  6. This game is on a real-life timer, with each day of play being exactly equivalent to a day in the game world. In addition it will use bankable deadlines; Day 1 will last up to 21 days, but after that each Day will only add 14 days to the remaining time. Prods will come if you don't show up for 48 hours, exclusive of weekends or announced absences. Replacement can be forced for inactivity or excessive lurking.
  7. Acting like a goon does not require personal attacks, flames, or spamming. Violators will be re-educated with extreme prejudice.
  8. Don't edit or delete existing posts. See Rule 7.
  9. Don't quote to this thread any PMs/QuickTopics/private conversations you may have access to. See Rules 7 and 8.
  10. Don't discuss this game out of thread unless you have permission from the mod. See rules 7, 8, and 9 for clarification.
  11. No strong cryptography or steganography in this game thread. Questions about what qualifies should be directed to me by PM.
  12. If you're going to be gone for a significant length of time, let everyone know. Management not responsible for other players believing your claim of absence, however.
  13. Don't make me modkill you. If you want to 'fake' breaking a rule, you'd better clear it with me first, otherwise I may just believe you myself.
  14. Have fun with it; this is a bit different type of game.

Roles

This game does not have an Open Setup; however, for balance reasons, here are two sample Role PMs:
Sample TownieYou're
Marion Trozollo
, organizer and visionary behind the River Quay Merchants Association that is revitalizing the riverfront district. After decades of neglect, your ideas and investments have brought in craftspeople, restauranteurs, and artists in numbers that surprise even you! However it has also led to the involvement of some unscrupulous characters; mobsters and petty thugs, go-go dancers and drug users. The disorder and implicit violence of these people threatens to bring your fragile recovery crashing down around your ears. Best to use your influence and intelligence to try to make sure they go somewhere else.

Win Condition:
You win when the gangsters and major criminals are dead, convicted, or neutralized.

Powers:
  • Visit
(active, night): You may choose to 'visit' any named/numbered location on the map at Night if you wish, but you have no action or influence there. You may not converse with anyone at Night unless told otherwise.
(in an ordinary game, you would be considered a )

Home Base:
You start and end most evenings at the River Quay Merchant's Association, #22 on the map.

Sample Power RoleYou're
Nicholas Civillia
, Don of the Kansas City underworld. Having held control of the town's organized crime factions with a velvet-covered iron fist for more than two decades, you fear nothing and no one. While you must ultimately answer to the Chicago Outfit, they are far away and do not care to get involved in how you run your 'business' from day to day. This uppity ""River Quay Merchant Association"", however, has been stirring up trouble in the very part of Kansas City where you grew up. It may be time to knock a few heads...

Win Condition:
You win when the Town has been eliminated, or nothing can prevent that from happening.

Powers:
  • Faction Kill
    (active, night, via PM)
    :
You are a ; as such, each Night you may order the murder of one Townsperson. Select a member of your criminal organization to perform the kill, and they will do their best to see that it is done. If you die, this ability will pass to one of your lieutenants.
  • Investigation Immunity
    (passive, night)
    :
Due to your connections and influence, you will come up as Innocent to any Kansas City Police Department investigations, unless you are caught red-handed committing the Night Kill.
  • Tour the Neighborhood:
    (active, night)
    :
You may choose to have your driver transport you around the area at Night if you like; this will increase your visibility, but may not improve your efficiency at directing actions. The location you visit will know you were there, but unless you choose to use one of your other abilities, you will have no effect by showing up.
  • Kill Immunity
    (passive, night, single-use)
    :
You also have a one-shot Night Kill Immunity through the efforts of your driver/bodyguard.
  • Faction Allies
    (special, night)
    :
Individual members of your organization may also have additional skills to offer you; discuss them at Night in this QuickTopic.

Home Base:
You start and end most evenings at the Godfather Lounge, #14 on the map.

Okay, apparently I didn't do as good a job of explaining this game as I thought.

Your "mob lieutenants" are the Cult Recruiters in this game - but the twist is they're Tree Stumps - you can't lynch them directly, but neither can they vote. Find and deal with their recruits, and once you strip their faction of power, they'll lose (the so-called White Flag rule).

As most of you have figured out, your public 'profession' is not the same as your 'game role'. The usual rules apply toward your role PM - you can't quote it directly, but you can summarize. And yes, the map matters to some roles/situations.

Any other questions?

Someone asked me for more specifics about White Flag as it relates to this game. Here's what I'll tell you:

A Scum Faction (and only scum) will autolose when it has one player left alive. This is to help account for the Mob Lieutenants who are unlynchable of course, and to help refocus the game away from the problem of 'you not only have to find the recruits, you have to find the recruiter in the right order'. Those of you who read the first Succession Mafia will recall what happened there.

Obviously town has problems when they're down to one player, too, it just works a different way. :P

Apologies - "No" as in "Flavor will never give you anything reliable to go on."

Final Vote Count of Day One:

Chronopie - 13 (xvart, Cobblerfone, ooba, ThAdmiral, Bunnylover, Flameaxe, Seraphim, bvoigt, Katsuki, inHimshallibe, Porochaz, Yosarian2, Andrius)

Tensions were high and Chronopie's story just didn't add up. "A photographer? For the mob?" "No, you idiot. I run a photo studio." "Where did you get all the funds for those fancy cameras?" "Well... I do run a photo studio, but..."

A short time later, he was beaten severely and on the run, never to be seen in this city again.

The muggy weather of the week give way to storms and rain that pelt the sidewalks and roofs of River Quay and make dancing patterns on the Muddy Mo's surface. Saturday morning dawns refreshed and cooler (at least in comparison), but the rain does little to sweep away the pool of blood under inHim's head. It seems someone took a heavy blunt object and smashed him in the base of the skull, then hammered on him a while longer to make sure the job was done. Brutally effective, but is it designed to terrorize the good or the wicked?

Alan "Mr. Dry-Fit Shall I Be" Wilson, Warehouse Supervisor/Townie, was beaten to death Night One.

It is now Day Two. With 23 voters, it will take 12 to lynch.
D2 will end no later than the late evening of July 2nd.

The map is unchanged.

Porochaz's mood and his language got worse as suspicion swirled around him. And then late Friday night, he was led out of his place of business, the Yesterday's Girl grocery, wearing a bulletproof vest and surrounded by federal agents. They refused to answer most questions, but a grand jury is scheduled to hear an indictment on Monday.

The sweltering summer continued and the weekend passed in laziness and stale air. Restless sleep and nervousness blanketed the River Quay like smog, and more than a few people woke up imagining a window or door being forced open, their privacy violated... But for a few people, detected or not, Death marched at their heels.

Andrius Raudhr got a little 'toasty' at the bar, celebrating the good fortune of Charles Poro's arrest, or perhaps worrying about his own neck. In either case, it was a wobbly trip home that was brought to an abrupt end when a large chunk of rock impacted with the back of his skull. He thrashed about, trying to defend himself, but his assailant left no opening and soon his brains were splattered across the alley behind Harlow's Nightclub. Nobody saw or heard a thing, or if they did, no one is talking...

One other soul met the reaper this steamy and still night. Mike Howell, called The Admiral by his friends despite never actually having done naval service, was walking down the street when he heard a quiet click behind him. Before he could even wonder what the noise was, a small-caliber bullet tore out his spine, ripping shrapned through his right lung and silencing his scream before it could be voiced. His killer put the weapon away and strolled the other way... his body was found by the waterfront docks. Police are not talking about any leads at this time.

Andrius Raudhr, Teamster/Townie, was bludgeoned to death Night Two.
Mike "The Admiral" Howell, Personal Trainer/Townie, was shot Night Two.

It is now Day Three. With 20 voters present, it will take 11 votes to lynch.

The Merchants-Produce Bank has been closed all morning, unusually for a Tuesday, but then bank robberies are unusual affairs. According to police,
Ms. Spring Lullaby
was opening the bank this morning when an unknown person assaulted her with what appears to have been a heavy blunt object. She was taken to St. Mary's Hospital when she was found a short time later by a jogger, but her injuries were too severe, and she succumbed to them shortly before noon.

Bank officials were quick to assure residents that their deposits are safe; even should the bank's losses be "worse than expected", Federal Deposit Insurance funds would cover their balances in full. No comment was provided on why Ms. Lullaby was opening the bank by herself, an apparent violation of accepted security practices.

Ms. Spring Lullaby, Banker/Unrecruitable Townie, was murdered Night Three.

It is now Day Four. With 18 voters present, it will take 10 votes to lynch, 9 at deadline.
Retired as of October 2014.

Darox's protestations of innocence fell on deaf ears of a town too tired of a bloody summer and a rainless heat wave to listen. Beating him senseless and throwing him on the next riverboat out of town seemed like a good idea... at the time.

Darox, Dock Worker/Bodyguard (Town), was lynched Day Four.

It is now Night Four. Any and all Night Actions are due to me no later than midnight of Monday, July 25th. I know that seems long, but lynch happening now means most of Night will be over a weekend.

A night for clearing the streets, it seems... but not the sort of scum you'd really hope to rid yourselves of.

First, Seraphim, longtime resident of the River Quay area, great sage and eminent junkie, was found dead in an alley. In an ordinary summer, one might suspect exposure or even a drug overdose to be the cause of death, but not this time. In any case, no one slashes their own wrists, backs of their hands, forearms, AND jugular in sequence... do they??

Shortly after dawn, another pair of squad cars are called into the Quay, to investigate the body of Dripping Goofball, an adult entertainer and sometime barfly who wasn't above getting paid for more than just her drinks. Police called an ambulance to the scene shortly after their arrival, but the lack of sirens and the drawn-up sheet tell all the story that needs be told. They did say that the victim appeared to have had sex recently, but were unable to tell at this time if it was forced or consensual.

Seraphim, Junkie/Tracker (Town), was killed Night Four.

Dripping Goofball, Exotic Dancer/Roleblocker (Town), was found murdered in her apartment Night Four.

It is now Day Five; with fifteen voters, it will take eight votes to lynch.
Retired as of October 2014.

Is someone taking out the trash, or taking out the competition? In any case, police presence is up in the Quay following another shocking murder. Ooba Seaton, sometimes called Pops, was shot point-blank last night during his nightly maunderings and wanderings. The poor bastard never carried anything of value, so no obvious motive presents itself.... but lots of rumors....

ooba, Junkie/Watcher (Town), was shot in the face Night Five.

It is now Day Six. With 13 voters present, it will take 7 to lynch.

Joe Camisano cracked his knuckles briefly, pacing in the back room of Uncle Joe's Tavern, where he had been orchestrating this summer's takeover. He had never been a patient man, and the pace with which things had been happening lately was not nearly as quick as he'd have liked. If things went wrong now...

But no; the front door opened and the slim figure of Hiro Battousai slipped in, closing it quickly behind him.
"It's done, boss."
He joined the others waiting for their next orders, nodding to the others. The man was a natural born killer, and had taken to his new tasks with a restrained pleasure not usually found in bank clerks.

"Good. With that out of the way, we should be able to finish this, finally. Our pet policeman is already on his way up north to take out the garbage. Here's what I want the rest of you to do..."

With things coming to a head, "Kinetic" Camisano could finally move as he wished.

Flameaxe sauntered home, as always a little overly awake after a good show at the Limelight. And for that matter, awake and alert isn't a bad thing, considering what has been going on lately... turning the corner onto Delaware, a single remaining porchlight showed John Doe sweeping off the porch of the gallery. Doe raised a hand in greeting, stopping to lean on the broom handle.
"Evening."

Flameaxe was surprised; Doe was one of the old-fashioned residents of the River Quay, and didn't usually want to acknowledge the dancers and adult entertainers who made up the newest portion of the business community. Nevertheless, politeness never hurt. "Evening, John. You're up late."

Doe nodded.
"Lots to do. Time waits on no man..."
Doe trailed off, obviously still a little uncomfortable with the appearance of his visitor.
"Uhm... may I... offer you a drink?"

Flameaxe was surprised, but flattered. Doe must be feeling the same tension, that need for community and companionship everyone was feeling more strongly since the summer's violence began.
"Well... that would be nice, actually. Summer seems like it's never going to end, does it?"

"Oh, I don't know. I'm sure it'll all be over soon. After a nightcap, I'll walk you home... for safety? Right."

Flameaxe, Cabaret Dancer/Townie, was murdered at home Night Six.

Image
Dr. Amrun Tajo tried to stretch her neck; these long nights were getting to her, she decided. St. Mary's was usually a quiet place to work, but this summer, either the heat or something in the water had everyone a little crazy. More shootings, stabbings, and robberies than she could remember ever seeing before...

Her car waited near the end of the second row in the parking lot; she'd been lucky to get a close spot tonight when she arrived for her shift at the hospital. Normally she didn't mind the walk, but with everything going on lately -
"Hello, doc."

Amrun spun around, looking for the source of the voice and settling on a slender Asian man crossing from the ambulance parking lot. She squinted in the light differential, trying to tell if his dark clothes were the drivers' uniform or not.
"Hello there. I'm sorry, have we met?"

"Once or twice. I just wanted to tell you - "
suddenly he was moving faster than she thought possible, pulling a ohgodagun from behind his back.
"Just wanted to tell you goodnight."

"What? Why... if you need money, I have some in my purse. If you're after drugs, I'm afraid I cannot help you there; the dispensary is quite closed."

"Oh, it's not that. I mean, I will take what you have, but this is business, not personal."

Amrun, Physician/Doctor, was shot Night Six.

"Greco? It's Sam Ludi."

"Oh, hey. What's going on? Aren't you on shift?"

"Change of plans, unfortunately. My grandma passed last night and I need to take an emergency trip back east."

"Aww, Sam, I'm sure sorry to hear that. Anything I can do? Cover a shift or two for you?"

"I appreciate the offer, Hero, but I know you've got the weekend off. I made other arrangements to cover my shift. But if you've got an hour or so this morning, I'd sure like to get a ride up to the airport. Cab fare's a right bastard on top of the airfare, and my TWA flight leaves before the busses will be up that far north."

Image
"Oh... yeah, sure, no problem. Give me twenty - are you at the substation on 3rd?"

"Nah, I'm at home, over on Fourth. I'll just walk over to your place and meet you there. Saves time?"

"Sure, no problem."

"Thanks, Herodotus. You don't know what this means to me."

Herodotus, Corrupt Police Officer/Cop, was found dead in his car's trunk in the endgame.

"Bastard!"
Anahito Xvart clenched his teeth to stop from screaming, clamping his hands down on the gunshot wound in his thigh.
"Stupid, cocksucking...."
He shot back again twice, firing through the hollowcore door to Cobblerfone's bedroom.
Of all the stupid things to have happen...
He raised his voice again.
"Paul? You can't win, you know. There's too many of us. Why don't you just make this easy on yourself?"
He looked behind him and saw Camisano coming up the steps, suitcoat flaring with anger.

"What in the name of all the saints are you DOING in here? It sounds like fucking Vietnam!"

Xvart bit back another groan and turned back to the door in front of him. No more cases of lead poisoning had come at him in at least a minute, which was a minor miracle considering how things had gone up until now.
"Sorry boss. I got him to let me in for a talk but.... urgh... I didn't know he was carrying."

Camisano drew his own gun with a disgusted shake of the head.
"Well, make sure he's NOT carrying now. I'll cover your sorry backside."

Xvart nodded and stumbled to his feet, trying not to look at the river of gore streaming down his trouser leg. This was made slightly easier by his vision going rapidly gray for a moment as he stood up.
Oh no...
But he hobbled to the door, listened for a moment as he leaned against the frame, and then pushed it open with his foot, leaning back away from the widening door.

Nothing happened. After a count of four, he ducked his head around the corner quickly for a look, then almost ducked back before he saw Cobblerfone's body sprawled back across the bed. His gun was lying on the pillow, open for reloading, but the mess of pink and grey behind his head seemed certain knowledge that this mess was over.

"He's dead, boss. He..."
Xvart stumbled to his knees as he tried to walk into the room, then the wounded leg collapsed under him and he was left staring at the dust bunnies underneath the bed. His blood roared in his temples for a moment, then his vision went black. The last thing he heard was Camisano's wingtips coming to a halt behind him, then blackness enveloped everything.

Anahito Xvart,
Recruited Teamster
/Roleblocker, was killed in a shootout during the endgame.

Paul Cobblerfone, Teamster/Army Veteran, was dumped in the river during the endgame.

Cecily Smith wrapped up her shift at Judge Roy Bean's and dumped her apron behind the counter. For once the till had come up even, and she could get out on time. Maybe even get a little studying done before her morning classes, if her Lambda Delta sisters let her concentrate. She grimaced as she calculated briefly the likely effects of just one drink on her ability to study... sometimes being in the pre-med program had its drawbacks.

At her car, she was surprised to find a tall man waiting for her. It was the cook from down the street at Dinkeldorf's Deli. Cute, in an Eastern European sort of way... they'd flirted a couple of times, but he'd stood her up the one time they'd actually tried to make a dinner date.
What was his name...
God, it must be late if she could forget.
Yusef? No, Yossarian, like in that book.
"Well hello, stranger. They finally let you out after dark?"

Yosarian grinned
"Sorry about the other night. Been tied up a lot, and work's been brutal."

She nodded, standing apprenehsively for a moment before waving him out of the way so she could unlock the car.
"Come on, at least let me sit down in my own car. If you're nice, I'll turn on the air for you."

He backed out of the way hastily, his hands in his pockets as he waited for her to get her keys out. She looked at him with one eyebrow raised, then slipped into the benchseat and pulled the latch on the other side.
"Here, get in."

He slid into the other side, and she was surprised to find him looking directly at her after she got the engine going. The blast of hot air from the vents masked what he said at first, and she asked him to repeat it.
"I said, 'Put your hands on the wheel.'"

She stared at him in confusion for a moment, and then she realized that he had pulled a syringe out of his pocket out and was holding it just above her elbow. The tip wavered slightly, but the snub-nosed revolver in his other hand.
"I'm sorry, but this will hurt less if you don't move."

Cecily "Lambdadelta" Smith, Bartender/Cult Doctor, died of a fatal drug overdose in the endgame.

Bunny Lover trudged up the steps of the apartment, fumbling to get her keys out. She was so tired she could hardly see straight, and it took three tries to get both locks open. She'd had the new one installed once the killings had started in the area.
These double shifts will be the end of me...
She still had four months to go on her lease in this place before she could move, and the job market for female factory workers was not exactly pleasant right now. All of the returning soldiers from the war had driven the market into the employers' favor again, and trying to get work anywhere close to the salary she had at Chase Bag Company was brutal.

She leaned her head against the doorframe for a moment before pushing it open, and just had time to hear a light patter of footsteps behind her when a blinding pain shot through her lower back. Someone or something had hit her like a truck, knocking her most of the way into the apartment. She fell and stumbled, trying to roll onto her back and get her mace and whistle back from where the keyring had fallen. A foot kicked it away, then came back to connect with her temple, making her see stars.
"What? Who the f-"

"Quiet."
The slender figure closed the door behind himself and stood there for a moment, then pulled an immensely long and sharp knife from a sheath on his hip. Bunny Lover tried to scream, but a fist flashed out of nowhere and crushed her windpipe, choking off the noise. Then the figure was astride her, one knee pinning her left arm, the other driving the air out of her chest as it landed just beneath her ribcage. Then the knife rose, twirled slowly in the moonlight, and fell like a guillotine...

Bunny Lover, Factory Worker/Townie, was stabbed to death during the endgame.

Father Barnabas Voigt put down the book he was reading and rose at the knock at the presbytery door. It was early, still some hours before confessionals would start, but the main sanctuary was open for anyone who wanted to come in and pray. They rarely needed the services of a priest in that, however... He pulled the stole from its place on the side of his desk and placed it around his shoulders, murmuring the traditional phrase:
"Restore to me, O Lord, the state of immortality which I lost through the sin of my first parents and, although unworthy to approach Thy Sacred Mysteries, may I deserve nevertheless eternal joy."

Opening the door, he was shocked to find Joseph Camisano in the doorway. Camisano had never been the most observant of Catholics, and of late he had missed more services than he had attended.

"May I come in, Father?"

"Well... yes, of course, my son. What brings you here today?"

Camisano seemed to take his time getting seated; Father Voigt noticed he was dressed neatly and formally in a charcoal suit with European details. He finally looked up from his lap and said,
"Father, it's come to my attention that you are... have been trying to interfere with my business. I don't appreciate that."

Voigt was shocked, but kept it to himself.
"Son...Joseph, I am in the business of 'interfering' with sin and predation wherever it is found. If that puts me against you... then so be it. I won't be intimidated by the likes of you. I would like to..."
He broke off at Camisano's laughter, abrupt and ugly.

"Intimidate you? Oh no, father, I ain't going to try to intimidate you. I know you're a man of God, and nothing I could say would bring you about to how I see things."

"Which is what?"

Camisano took a deep breath.
"Strength. I'm here...I'm STILL here, because I am strong. Powerful beyond other men. Civillia fell. Sperro fell. Hell, even DiLuna fell, and he's as tough as they come... sorry, Father."

Father Voigt waved it away.
"Then why come here? You've been an empty spot in the pews since... since Civillia died in that explosion. I don't believe I've seen you more than three or four times, even in the neighborhood. So why come here now?"

"Well, Father... I had to. You see, most of the boys balked at killing a priest. And some of them couldn't even do simpler tasks correctly. So... I came to see to you myself."
Suddenly a small chromed revolver appeared from inside Camisano's pocket, a strange cylinder like a second barrel affixed to the end.

"I... see. God forgive you, my son."

"God helps those who help themselves, Father."

Father B. Voigt, Priest/Cult Doctor, was murdered in his own church during the endgame.

Yeah, there were a (rare) handful of ways Cult Leaders could have died/been targeted. Most of it had to do with locations, but I'm not revealing the exact mechanics in case I want to use it again in the future...

I do agree with Yos, I think I just about got the balance right on this one (like the first Succession game, every faction had at least one oh-shit-we're-going-to-lose-for-sure moment, which is a good sign). I probably should have gone back with my original instinct for 3 Vigs, 1 Unrecruitable.

Chronopie dying early REALLY hurt town; his special ability could have revealed scum associations by 'eavesdropping' on Night Actions/QuickTopics. For example, if he'd targeted Yosarian, he'd have gotten that he had contact with Kinetic during the Night. Boom. And yeah, the massclaim was a bad idea (massclaims are almost always colossally bad ideas in Flay Games). I might have claimed some sort of unrecruitable if I were Cobblerfone, but otherwise he was right to claim VT.

Cult Docs did an okay job, but really the worst part of Town power was the hideously offtarget Vigilantes. Battousai alone killed 4 Town players
before
he was recruited... I really thought ooba was going to nail him to the wall after seeing him with springlullaby. Overall though, I think Town didn't do too badly, except for those two things. You did an excellent job of nailing ABR's team, for example. Assuming Yos2 was conftown because of the JK was kinda :? though...

Spoiler: Role PMs
Role PMs:
Mob LieutenantYou're
Joe Camisano
, a longtime figure in the Kansas City underworld and a 'Made Man'. With Civillia out of the picture, you've decided it's your time to make a power grab. Of course you're not the only one with such ideas, so you'll have to eliminate or subvert your rivals, as well as any meddling yokels.

Win Condition:
You win when all who oppose you are dead, convicted, or neutralized.

Powers:
  • (active, night): At Night you may send one of your associates to 'convince' another player to join your faction. Send me a PM with the name of the person you trust to carry the message, and who they will be paying a visit to. Due to the increased scrutiny and activity surrounding the current power vacuum, it is not recommended that you make the trip yourself after Night Zero (confirmation stage).
Do not talk directly to that player until I advise you that they have accepted the offer!
You may recruit someone during confirmations.
  • Kill
(active, night): Instead, you may find someone too dangerous/stubborn to recruit, and wish to rub them out. You can also choose to send someone to kill the person (or you may do it yourself, if you just feel like getting your hands dirty). You can also direct them to destroy a particular named/numbered building, though this does not guarantee that anyone will be present. You may not direct both a Recruitment and a Killing on the same Night.
  • Connections
(passive, night): Due to your connections and associates, some roles will not affect you as long as you have associates surrounding you. The flip side of this is that when all of your allies are dead, convicted, or neutralized, your protection will evaporate and you will lose
    automatically
    (the White Flag rule).
  • Visit
(active, night): You may also choose to 'visit' any named/numbered location on the map at Night if you wish, but you have no special action or influence there beyond what your other abilities may grant you.

Home Base:
You start and end most evenings at Uncle Joe's Tavern, #10 on the map (which you own).

Modnotes: Stump: No vote. Directs Night Actions. If they lose their last ally, the faction automatically surrenders. N0 this White Flag rule does not apply, if they fail to recruit anyone successfully.

Mob LieutenantYou're
Albert B. "Rampage" Sperro
, a longtime figure in the Kansas City underworld and a 'Made Man', feared for your temper. With old Nick Civillia out of the picture, it may be your turn to grab the brass ring and hang on with both hands. Of course you're not the only one with such ideas, so you'll have to deal with your rivals as well as any well-meaning citizens who get in your way.

Win Condition:
You win when all who oppose you are dead, convicted, or neutralized.

Home Base:
You start and end most evenings at Cascone's Grill, #21 on the map.

Modnotes: Stump: No vote. Directs Night Actions. If they lose their last ally, the faction automatically surrenders. N0 this White Flag rule does not apply, if they fail to recruit anyone successfully.

Exotic DancerYou're
Flameaxe
, a regular performer for the Chelsea Quay Adult Movie House, as well as an exotic dancer. Your beauty and charm are considerable, but thugs and businessmen alike tend to disapprove of you when you're not 'on the job'. Hypocrisy sucks, doesn't it? Your best bet for a continued career and health is to make sure that the organized crime element doesn't get any worse in the River Quay.

Home Base:
You start and end most evenings at the Chelsea Quay Movie House, #11 on the map.

Modnotes: If both Dancers are recruited, both are arrested for a Night.

Exotic DancerYou're
Dripping Goofball
, a regular attraction at the Limelight Cabaret, as well as doing a little business after hours to make sure the bills get paid. You can charm the pants off of a man (or woman) and get them to pay you for the privilege, but when all is said and done you're a sideline attraction at best. Your way of life may draw the occasional stares and wagged fingers from blue-haired grandmothers, but compared to the mob, you're nothing to worry about.

Win Condition:
You win when the gangsters and major criminals are dead, convicted, or neutralized.

Powers:
  • Prostitution
(active, night): At Night you may select one player to use your skills on, taking up a good portion of their evening with your bountiful assets
(in an ordinary game, you would be considered a )
. Send me a PM with who you would like to distract; the earlier you start, the better your night will be.
  • Visit
(active, night): You may instead choose to 'visit' any named/numbered location on the map at Night if you wish, but you have no action or influence there. You may not converse with anyone at Night unless told otherwise.

Home Base:
You start and end most evenings at the Limelight Cabaret, #31 on the map.

Modnotes: Prevents Night Actions by non-Stumps. Flavor depends on which RB it is. If both Dancers are recruited, both are arrested for a Night.

City CouncilpersonYou're
Fritz L. R. Hernandez
, elected representative of the 2nd District of the City Council, a valued and trusted member of the community. Despite that prestigious office, you are not exactly a saint; you've gotten your hands dirty with some kickbacks and pet projects for Nick Civillia's associates, and if the news got out, your career would be finished. Best thing for you would be if their fall continued unabated, and you were able to focus on the needs of your other constituents.

Win Condition:
You win when the gangsters and major criminals are dead, convicted, or neutralized.

Powers:
  • (active, night, limited): At Night you may choose to retreat to your offices on the 26th floor of City Hall, and escape the madness and violence gripping the River Quay for a while. You will be untargetable while at your offices, but you may not spend consecutive Nights there.
  • Visit
(active, night): You may instead choose to 'visit' any named/numbered location on the map at Night if you wish, but you have no action or influence there. You may not converse with anyone at Night unless told otherwise.

Home Base:
You can often be found hanging out at the Gillis Barber Shop, #30 on the map, when you are in the River Quay area.

BankerYou're
Ms. Spring Lullaby
, bank manager for the Merchants-Produce Bank, a financial mainstay of the River Quay for almost seventy years. While the bank's unofficial motto is 'everyone's cash is equally green' and regulators have looked into suspicions of money laundering by mob associates, no wrongdoing has ever been proven. The recent string of violence and upheaval, however, has everyone somewhat nervous.

Win Condition:
You win when the gangsters and major criminals are dead, convicted, or neutralized.

Powers:
  • (passive, night): Your work ethic is so strong that, while you are willing to discuss fiduciary matters with underworld figures, you cannot be swayed to support one side over the other. Violence is bad for business, in your business.
  • Visit
(active, night): You may choose to 'visit' any named/numbered location on the map at Night if you wish, but you have no action or influence there. You may not converse with anyone at Night unless told otherwise.
(in an ordinary game, you would be considered a )

Home Base:
Your dedication to your job means that you are often found at the Merchants-Produce Bank, #36 on the map, both late in the evenings and first thing in the morning.

Bank ClerkYou're
Hiro Battousai
, a longtime bank clerk for the Merchants-Produce Bank, an Old Town financial mainstay. Years of dealing with the bank's unofficial motto of 'everyone's cash is equally green' have soured you on any mob dealings, and the recent uptick in violence has made something inside of you...
snap
.

Win Condition:
You win when the gangsters and major criminals are dead, convicted, or neutralized.

Powers:
  • (active, night): Your security training qualifies you to try a little vigilante justice, if you like; you can send me the name of a player OR location you'd like to 'take out' at Night. Targeting an individual is somewhat easier than an entire building, even if you're certain there's someone inside. The actual instigators of the violence, Camisano and Sperro, are too well-protected for you to attack, but you might be able to whittle down their associates...
  • Visit
(active, night): You may instead choose to simply 'visit' any named/numbered location on the map at Night if you wish, but you have no action or influence there. You may not converse with anyone at Night unless told otherwise.

Home Base:
Your dedication to your job means that you are often found at the Merchants-Produce Bank, #36 on the map, both late in the evenings and first thing in the morning.

Modnotes: May target a building, which will kill one person at random inside.

BartenderYou're
Katsuki Saito
, a bartender at the popular and classy Victoria Station restaurant. Working in a boxcar may not seem like much, but the decor and clientele make it worth it. You've seen fortunes come and go in the River Quay, but the current wave of violence is doing your tips no good at all. If it was up to you, you'd rather just see all of this 'mobster' business clear on out and leave the hardworking folks to their gin & tonics and wine tastings.

Home Base:
You start and end most evenings at Victoria Station, #4 on the map.

BartenderYou're
Cecily Smith
, a bartender at Judge Roy Bean's, a longtime watering hole in the River Quay area. You've seen mobsters, police, doctors and dock workers all in your establishment at one time or another, and you're convinced the whole power struggle thing is nonsense. Whether the "Mafia" actually exists or not, blowing up the places people work and relax is no way to live.

Win Condition:
You win when the gangsters and major criminals are dead, convicted, or neutralized.

Powers:
  • Free Advice
(active, night): Assuming you can get somebody to come in for a drink (and most of them do, sooner or later), you can use your persuasive speech (and maybe a free drink or two) to help keep someone from getting any deeper involved in this turf war.
(in an ordinary game, you would be considered a )
Just send me a PM with the name of who you'd like to talk to; this effect may last longer than just one night.
  • (passive, night): Your convictions are strong enough for you to resist being dragged into this whole fight on one side or the other, yourself.
  • Visit
(active, night): You may instead choose to 'visit' any named/numbered location on the map at Night if you wish, but you have no action or influence there. You may not converse with anyone at Night unless told otherwise.

Home Base:
You start and end most evenings at Judge Roy Bean's, #18 on the map.

Modnotes: Tries to talk people out of joining the Mafia. Does not know if it worked. Protection lasts for 1 Night for Bartender.

Business OwnerYou're
John "Nobody Special" Doe
, owner and operator of Sterling Company, a retail shop specializing in silverwork and other precious metals. You've been a part of River Quay since before it was 'hip' to do so, and this mob action has you hot under the collar. How dare they try to wreck your home and livelihood?

Win Condition:
You win when the gangsters and major criminals are dead, convicted, or neutralized.

Powers:
  • (active, night): Your military background and substantial firearms collection enables you to dispense some vigilante justice; you can send me the name of a player OR location you'd like to 'take out' at Night. Targeting an individual is somewhat easier than an entire building, even if you're certain there's someone inside. The actual instigators of the violence, Camisano and Sperro, are too well-guarded for you to attack directly, but you can probably deal with their associates and underlings.
  • Visit
(active, night): You may instead choose to simply 'visit' any named/numbered location on the map at Night if you wish, but you have no action or influence there. You may not converse with anyone at Night unless told otherwise.

Home Base:
Your company requires a great deal of your time and energy; the warehouse and retail shop are both located at #20 on the map, and you can be found there most evenings and early many mornings.

Modnotes: May also target a building, which will kill one person at random inside.

Business OwnerYou're
Charles "Chaz" Poro
, owner of Yesterday's Girl, the only sizable grocery store in the River Quay area (not counting the open-air City Market). You have no problem with Italians, of course, but this killing and bombing stuff has you very nervous. Fortunately, Mr. Sperro has offered to take you under his wing and protect you from the worst of it, in exchange for a favor now and then. And he probably doesn't mean free canolis...

Win Condition:
You win when the gangsters and major criminals are dead, convicted, or neutralized.

Powers:
  • Visit
(active, night): You may instead choose to simply 'visit' any named/numbered location on the map at Night if you wish, but you have no action or influence there. You may not converse with anyone at Night unless told otherwise.
(in an ordinary game, you would be considered a
    [/wiki]Townie[/wiki]
    )

Home Base:
Running Yesterday's Girl takes up most of your free time; most evenings and even early in the morning you can be found there (#27 on the map)

CookYou're
Yosarian Johnson
, a short-order cook at Dinkeldorf's Deli. Dinkeldorf's is an institution of the River Quay area, and your sandwiches have earned you no small renown on their own merits; the boss says the lines are always twice as long when you're on the clock. Either way, this whole 'Maffia' nonsense has nothing to do with you... right? Well, it didn't until Joe Camisano sat down at one of your tables and paid you a $2,000 tip. Now it looks like you've got a side in this fight...

(in an ordinary game, you would be considered a )

Home Base:
You are often working at Dinkeldorf's (#26 on the map), cleaning up in the evenings after closing time or getting things ready for the morning open.

Corrupt CopYou're
Herodotus Greco
, a uniformed officer of the Kansas City Police Department. You've looked the other way before for another Italian or a kid who was just trying to get by in a rough neighborhood, but the killing and violence has made your job harder than ever, lately.

Win Condition:
You win when the gangsters and major criminals are dead, convicted, or neutralized.

Powers:
  • Investigate
(active, night): You may use your access to police files to investigate someone's criminal record and try to learn anything about their recent illicit activity you can.
(in an ordinary game, you would be considered a )
. Just PM me the name of the person you wish to research; certain files may be more difficult to access than others, of course, and the Camisano/Sperro files have already been taken upstairs for review by HQ.
  • Visit
(active, night): You may instead choose to simply 'visit' any named/numbered location on the map at Night if you wish, but you have no action or influence there. You may not converse with anyone at Night unless told otherwise.

Home Base:
You are stationed out of the police garage on the waterfront (#3 on the map), though you also live in the area, farther east.

Modnotes: If both Cops are recruited, both are fired for corruption.

Corrupt CopYou're
Mr. Sam Ludi
, a uniformed officer of the Kansas City Police Department on the Night Shift. You're not above the occasional supplemental income from your patrols, and certainly not above a free meal or drink, but this violence and mayhem has got to stop!

Win Condition:
You win when the gangsters and major criminals are dead, convicted, or neutralized.

Powers:
  • Detain
(active, night): You may use (or abuse, as the case may be) your police powers to take someone into temporary custody on a pretext, or even a valid concern, if you can find one. Doing so will both remove them from the area and place them in detention downtown for a while, and protect them somewhat from the violence running rampant.
(in an ordinary game, you would be considered a )
. Just PM me the name of the person you wish to detain; certain people may be harder to persuade to come with you, of course, and the Camisano/Sperro residences have already been labeled too hot for a single officer to act upon. You may not converse with anyone at Night unless told otherwise.
  • Visit
(active, night): You may instead choose to simply 'visit' any named/numbered location on the map at Night if you wish, but you have no action or influence there. You may not converse with anyone at Night unless told otherwise.

Home Base:
You are stationed out of the police garage on the waterfront (#3 on the map) while you are working.

Modnotes: Prevents Night Actions, but also makes target untargetable. Stumps are immune to both effects. If both Cops are recruited, both are fired for corruption.

Factory WorkerYou're
Bunny Lover
, a semi-skilled laborer at the Chase Bag Company. You're getting pretty close to retirement age at this point, but if you die to to this idiotic 'gang war', who will take care of your family for you?

Win Condition:
You win when the gangsters and major criminals are dead, convicted, or neutralized.

Powers:
  • Visit
(active, night): You may choose to simply 'visit' any named/numbered location on the map at Night if you wish, but you have no action or influence there. You may not converse with anyone at Night unless told otherwise.
(in an ordinary game, you would be considered a )

Home Base:
You are often working late at the factory due to the shift differential (#1 on the map), but you also work mornings when needed.

Dock WorkerYou're
Tanarin Oswald
, a laborer at Lloyd-Adams Transfer and Storage near the waterfront. You've got no troubles with anybody, but shooting and blowing shit up hardly seems like a good way to live your life. The Good Book commands us to look after one another, after all...

Win Condition:
You win when the gangsters and major criminals are dead, convicted, or neutralized.

Powers:
  • (active, night): You may choose, out of the goodness of your heart, to guard someone's house or place of work overnight to try to stop any violence from being done in the name of evil. You may also choose to try to 'shadow' someone and protect them from an attack on the street, but it's kind of hard to be subtle and sneaky about it when you're the size of man you are.
(in an ordinary game, you would be considered a )

  • Visit
(active, night): You may instead choose to simply 'visit' any named/numbered location on the map at Night if you wish, but you have no action or influence there. You may not converse with anyone at Night unless told otherwise.

Home Base:
You are often working late at the warehouse due to the workload (#9 on the map), but you also work mornings when you have to.

Modnotes: May prevent one NK/JK, but JK is retargeted to them. Multiple NKs will result in their death as well as the target.

Warehouse SupervisorYou're
Alan "Mr. Dry-Fit" Wilson
, a laborer at B & B Distributing. You've worked there for years and would really like nothing better to do most evenings than just go home, take the dog for a walk, and drink a few cold ones. Mobsters and labor disputes and all of that crap really isn't your bag, you know?

Win Condition:
You win when the gangsters and major criminals are dead, convicted, or neutralized.

Powers:
  • Visit
(active, night): You may choose to simply 'visit' any named/numbered location on the map at Night if you wish, but you have no action or influence there. You may not converse with anyone at Night unless told otherwise.
(in an ordinary game, you would be considered a )

Home Base:
You are often working late at the warehouse (#13 on the map), but you also work mornings when needed.

DoctorYou're
Doc "Popular" Tajo
, a surgeon at St. Mary's Hospital, and you've sworn to protect life. 'Business' may be up with the recent spate of violence, but a nice quiet shift wouldn't be so terrible once in a while, would it?

Win Condition:
You win when the gangsters and major criminals are dead, convicted, or neutralized.

Powers:
  • (active, night): You may choose to direct one of the ambulances to watch over someone at Night; should they be injured, the ambulance will rush them to where you are on duty, greatly assisting with their chances of surviving.
(in an ordinary game, you would also be considered a )

  • Visit
(active, night): You may instead choose to simply 'visit' any named/numbered location on the map at Night if you wish, but you have no action or influence there. You may not converse with any other players at Night unless told otherwise.

Home Base:
You are often working long shifts at the hospital (#2 on the map).

Modnotes: Can only stop 1 NK per night; cannot protect self. If both Doctor and Pharmacist are recruited, both are fired for corruption.

PriestYou're
Father B. Voigt
, a Catholic priest at Holy Rosary Church, a fixture of the River Quay, North Town, Old Town, or whatever you wish to call it. While most of these folks don't darken your doorstep on Sunday mornings, all of God's children are part of your flock, whether they know it or not. Even a bad man may do good with his money, or a good man ill by his inaction.

Win Condition:
You win when the gangsters and major criminals are dead, convicted, or neutralized.

Powers:
  • Counsel
(active, night): You may extend a bit of wisdom and counseling to anyone you feel is wavering toward falling down a darker path. It may not always work, but you have no choice but to try to put an end to this violent outbreak.
(in an ordinary game, you would be considered a )
Just send me a PM with the name of who you'd like to talk to; this effect may last longer than just one night.
  • (passive, night): Through your faith and vows, you are easily strong enough to resist being dragged into this 'mob' fight on one side or the other.
  • Visit
(active, night): You may instead choose to simply 'visit' any named/numbered location on the map at Night if you wish, but you have no action or influence there. You may not converse with anyone at Night in this manner unless told otherwise.

Home Base:
You start and end most evenings at Holy Rosary, #8 on the map.

Modnotes: Tries to talk people out of joining the Mafia. Does not know if it worked. Protection lasts for 2 Nights for the Priest.

JunkieYou're
Seraphim
, an amphetamine addict at present and longtime wanderer of the streets of River Quay. You have no use for the criminal element that has so disrupted life of late, and while you yourself do not have a squeaky-clean record, you find yourself thinking even you are better than a bunch of murdering fools...

Win Condition:
You win when the gangsters and major criminals are dead, convicted, or neutralized.

Powers:
  • Track
(active, night): You may choose to follow someone at night and see where their own wanderings take them. Stealth is not always easy on the quiet streets of the waterfront, but you've learned how to make yourself unobtrusive and unthreatening when you can.
(in an ordinary game, you would be considered a )

  • Visit
(active, night): You may instead choose to simply 'visit' any named/numbered location on the map at Night if you wish, but you have no action or influence there. You may not converse with anyone at Night in this manner unless told otherwise.

Home Base:
You start most evenings at Papa Nick's Wine Cellar, #24 on the map, though by dawn you're usually fighting sleep in an alley or sleeping in somebody's unlocked car if it's raining.

Modnotes: Results are locations, not people.

JunkieYou're
"pops"
, a heroin addict and down-on-your-luck resident of the River Quay. Unable to hold down a decent job lately and not above boosting a few unattended possessions for the quick resale value, you still draw the line at killing and mayhem.

Win Condition:
You win when the gangsters and major criminals are dead, convicted, or neutralized.

Powers:
  • Watch
(active, night): Your addiction makes it hard to get around at times, but it does mean you can stay very still and quiet for a long time. If you choose, you may 'stake out' someone's home or place of work and see who visits there after hours; nothing guarantees you will see anything or remain unseen yourself, of course.
(in an ordinary game, you would be considered a )
Just send me a PM at Night of the named/numbered location you wish to observe.
  • Visit
(active, night): You may instead choose to simply 'visit' any named/numbered location on the map at Night if you wish, but you have no action or influence there. You may not converse with anyone at Night in this manner unless told otherwise.

Home Base:
You start most evenings at Main Street Liquors, #29 on the map, though by daybreak you're just as often huddled on a doorstep or behind a dumpster in the alley.

Modnotes: Targets locations, not people. Targeting a Stump will reveal himself to the Stump as being just outside.

Private EyeYou're
Max "Chrono" P. Warner
, a private investigator working for yourself out of the River Quay district. All of this recent violent behavior is a little blatant when compared to your usual adultery or lost possessions case, but money is money, and there's some sport in a challenge...

Win Condition:
You win when the gangsters and major criminals are dead, convicted, or neutralized.

Powers:
  • (active, night): You've got a knack for technology and are able to tap into the phone lines of most establishments if you choose to. Communication may be garbled or even encrypted, but it is at least possible to learn something about the goings and doings of the more unsavory elements around you. Send me a PM if you wish to try to tap the lines at a particular named/numbered location, and I will let you know what you learn in the process.
  • Visit
(active, night): You may instead choose to simply 'visit' any named/numbered location on the map at Night if you wish, but you have no action or influence there. You may not converse with any other players at Night unless told otherwise.

Home Base:
You are often working late at your 'cover', a photography business (#28 on the map), and you also live in the back room.

Modnotes: Gets name of one person that role interacted with overnight (not Kills). If recruited, he does NOT get to 'meet the team', but instead only talks to the Stump. Can be recruited away to the other side! If given the names of a side accidentally, will have to be NKed by the former team.

Personal TrainerYou're
Mike "The Admiral" Howell
, a trainer at Garrison Athletic Center, a new gymnasium on the east side of the River Quay. You pride yourself on providing inspiration and expertise for those who wish to improve themselves, like you have. You don't actually care what people do in their business lives, as once your clients enter the door, you consider yourself in charge. However this guns-and-dope nonsense is bad for your health.

Home Base:
You frequently work out after your shift at the gym (#35 on the map), and your shift often starts early the next morning..

TeamsterYou're
Raudhr Garm
, a Teamster who helps deliver and move equipment and inventory to many of the retail businesses in the River Quay area. Though the streets are narrow and the doors even narrower, you like your job and find the threats of violence and mayhem disruptive to your days (not to mention a night). A little grift and selling off the back of the truck is one thing, but people could get
killed
doing this!

Home Base:
You frequently wrap up after your driving shifts with a drink at Harlow's Nightclub (#33 on the map), and by the dawn's early light you're in your truck...

TeamsterYou're
Anahito Xvart
, a Teamster who transports inventory and supplies for area businesses. You've lived and worked in the River Quay area all your life, and seen its fortunes rise and fall. This is probably the worst you've ever seen the area, even when it was derelict in the 50s, and you don't want to see your home turf die like this...

Win Condition:
You win when the gangsters and major criminals are dead, convicted, or neutralized.

Powers:
  • Stonewall
(active, night): You can choose to block up somebody who is out at night; whether it's inviting them to have a drink, engaging them in a long and rambling conversation, or just getting a couple of your buddies together to intimidate them. Just send me a PM with the name of the person you'd like to interfere with.
(in an ordinary game, you would be considered a )

  • Visit
(active, night): You may instead choose to simply 'visit' any named/numbered location on the map at Night if you wish, but you have no action or influence there. You may not converse with anyone at Night unless told otherwise.

Home Base:
You frequently finish your work shifts with a drink at Poor Freddie's (#5 on the map), but not too late; work starts damn early...

Modnotes: Prevents Night Actions by non-Stumps. Flavor depends on which RB it is.

TeamsterYou're
Paul Cobblerfone
, a Teamster and hauler for businesses in the River Quay area. You hate seeing the area disrupted like this, and while you're not above a little creative bookkeeping to make ends meet, this bombing and killing stuff is for the birds.

Win Condition:
You win when the gangsters and major criminals are dead, convicted, or neutralized.

Powers:
  • Self-Defense
(passive, night): You have military experience in Korea and the precautions you've taken to ensure that your home is not violated are considerable. If someone tries to kill or detain you, it is likely they will be extremely sorry...
(in an ordinary game, you would be considered an )

  • Visit
(active, night): You may instead choose to simply 'visit' any named/numbered location on the map at Night if you wish, but you have no action or influence there. You may not converse with anyone at Night unless told otherwise.

Home Base:
You often finish your day with a drink or two at Delaware Daddy's Bar and Grill (#7 on the map), or have breakfast there before starting your shift.

Modnotes: Kills anybody who tries to target him for a NK (or JK, if he's at home).

PharmacistYou're
Mr. Zdenek
, primary pharmacist at Getz Prescription Shop in the River Quay. You've lived and worked in the area for decades, and don't like to see all the mayhem that has erupted of late. Whatever you can do to help alleviate the situation, you will try...

Win Condition:
You win when the gangsters and major criminals are dead, convicted, or neutralized.

Powers:
  • Medicate
(active, night): Your access to the pharmacy and supplies allows you to respond to some extraordinary after-hours situations that might arise. You can try to advise and protect someone from assault and damage, though you don't have the resources of a full hospital.
(in an ordinary game, you would be considered a )

  • Visit
(active, night): You may instead choose to simply 'visit' any named/numbered location on the map at Night if you wish, but you have no action or influence there. You may not converse with any other players at Night unless told otherwise.

Home Base:
You are often working late at the pharmacy (#23 on the map).

Modnotes: 50% chance to stop someone from dying by NK (except Army Vet's retaliation). Cannot protect self. If both Doctor and Pharmacist are recruited, both are fired for corruption.

NAR for this game was:
  • Commuter
  • Cult Doctor
  • Jailkeeper
  • Roleblocker
  • Bodyguard
  • Faith Healer
  • Doctor
  • Goon
  • Vigilante
  • Stump
  • Watcher
  • Tracker
  • Investigator
  • Army Veteran
  • Townie
  • Phone Tapper
Retired as of October 2014.

Poro: I think ABR started off assuming I would be using the same time-based action resolution that SM1 had (I did nothing to really disabuse anyone of the notion, but didn't encourage it either).

Someone (Yos, I think) said something about Cult games sucking the life out of Towns. I think there's some merit to that; Town either wins early or they grind/implode to a loss. This will probably be my last Cult game I run; while I think the White Flag+Stump innovation is a good one, I'm sorta sick of the overall feel the game gets.

However, I will point out that Town was
ridiculously
close to winning in the first couple of days.
  • Day One: ABR+Townie/Goon, Kinetic+Townie/Goon, 24 town w/16 power roles.
  • Day Two: ABR+2 Goons, Kinetic+Goon (ooba recruit failed), 22 town w/15 power roles and a guilty on Poro. ABR could have lost right here because his original recruiting target was LLD, who was unrecruitable, but he screwed up at Goofbash and showed Katsuki his QT. So he had to switch his target, which gave him a recruit, but not the one he wanted.
  • Day Three: ABR gets eliminated following Katsuki's lynch. Kinetic still only has
    one
recruit, because DGB was successfully protected. Town has something like 16 players left, only about 2 of which are plain Townies.

I did enjoy trying to make the game as 'realistic' as possible, even if it made writing night actions take FOREVER. The map was largely a red herring for most roles, but it did provide some ways for roles to interact in non-standard ways.
Retired as of October 2014.

I have to give big props to my reviewers, who avoiding some crashingly bad role-decisions during game design. I kept wondering if Town was overpowered, and then I'd look at Lost Boys and SM1, and go, "Nope..." :D

I think one of their ideas was to have TWO Cult Doctors.

I'm 95% sure I told them they could change choices until they got results, though... anyway, I perhaps should have made that clear, but ABR's team definitely didn't have the cohesion of Kinetic's, and that probably hurt his chances.

Yeah, certain roles would get 'revealed' to the Stumps if they came too close to them. Yours was one of those (not sure if they'd have taken you up on it, as it would have not been revealed until the End of Night).

Herodotus wrote:Hm. If kills resolve before recruitment, does the person recruiting need to survive the night to carry out the recruitment?

Nah - think of it more as a 'the person doesn't make up their mind to accept the recruitment until all other options are exhausted'. For similar reasons, recruited couldn't change their night actions just because they were recruited.

Okay, I'm pretty sure this translation of my spreadsheet is accurate:
  • Night Zero
    : Only recruiters get to act;
    Kinetic
    chooses Yos, of course, and
    ABR
    recruited Porochaz.
    2
    -
    2
    -
    23
    .
  • Day One
    :
    Chronopie
, the rerecruitable Private Investigator, gets lynched. inHim replaces Dry-Fit, LLD replaces Cecily. Andrius replaces RaudhrGarm.
All of my clever naming gets jacked up trying to wedge replacements' names in. :P
    Factions stand at
    2
    -

    -
    22
    .
  • Night One
    :
    1. LLD
      defends
      Andrius
      from recruitment.
    2. bvoigt
      defends

      Night is takes effect.
    3. Ludi
      jailkeeps
      Yosarian2
      , spoiling his recruitment action.

      misses her night choice.
    5. xvart
      blocks
      ThAdmiral
      from visiting #21.

      tries to send
      Yosarian
      to recruit
      ooba

      Porochaz
return home at the end of the Night.
    14. Seraphim
      tries to track
      Yosarian
, but can't find him anywhere.
    15. Herodotus
      investigates
      Porochaz
, finding his police file newly dirty of late.
    16. Kinetic
visits the newspaper office but can't get in; they're running the presses in the back (flavor text only).
    17. Andrius
also visits the newspaper office, finding much the same results.
    18. Fritzler
visited the factory at #13 (coincidentally where
      inHim
worked), getting a description and that's all.
    19. Bunnylover
tries to visit the church, but it's locked up tight.
    20. Cobblerfone
visits Harlow's Night Club for a drink and some flavor text.
    21. springlullaby
visits the mystery building labeled "?", getting some clues as to the name of the place (it's a red herring, just some interesting local history)
    22. ThAdmiral
wanted to visit Cascone's but was blocked. If he had succeeded, he would have been shown to
      ABR
      as hanging around outside.
    Factions stand at
    3
    -
    2

    :
    1. LLD
      defends
      Andrius/Toasty
from recruitment, but not from vigilantes.
    2. bvoigt
      defends
      Herodotus
      from recruitment.
    3. Ludi
      jailkeeps
      Yosarian
      again.
    4. DGB
      blocks
      xvart
      , which stops
      xvart
      from blocking
      Cobblerfone
      .
    5. Tanarin
      guards
      DGB
      .
    6. Zdenek
      and
      populartajo
      both protect
      Herodotus
      .
    7. NS
      kills
      Andrius/Toasty Toast.
      .
    8. ThAdmiral
visits Cascone's successfully, then gets killed by
      Battousai
. He was ABR's original idea for a recruitment, so it's just as well...
    9. ABR
      actually sends
      Katsuki
to recruit springlullaby, who is incorruptible.
    10. Kinetic
      goes himself to recruit
      DGB
, who is still defended from recruitment by
      bvoigt
      's action from N1.
    11. ooba
      watches Uncle Joe's Tavern (
      Kinetic
's home base). He sees someone come out (
      Kinetic
) but can't identify who in the dark.
    12. Seraphim
      tracks
      Ludi
to Dinkeldorf's Deli, but loses track of what he does next (taking Yosarian down to jail).
    13. Herodotus
      looks into
      Flameaxe
's record, finding it clean of organized crime ties (but not indecency standards)
    14. Bunnylover
goes to visit the Main Street Drive-In Liquor store... what a lush...
    15. Coblerfone
visits the mystery building, getting a different chunk of the deteriorated name on the place.
    16. Fritzler
visits the park after dark. Nothing happens.
    17. springlullaby
visits Chronopie's former place of business, the shuttered Warner Photographic Studio.

    Factions are at
    2
    -
    2
    -
    18
    after the vigkills.
  • Day Three
: Everybody wants to play Follow-The-Cop! When Herodotus doesn't have anything for them, they settle for an imploding
    Katsuki
    . This takes down the
    ABR
    faction,
    0
    -
    2
    -
    18
    .
  • Night Three
    :
    1. bvoigt
      defends
      Herodotus
again, not knowing that his defense lasts two Nights.
    2. LLD
      defends
      DGB
      against recruitment.
    3. Ludi
      continues to harass
      Yosarian
by jailkeeping him; the Night PMs start to say as much. :D
    4. DGB
      blocks
      NS
      from killing
      LLD
      , which would have been
      bad
      for town.
    5. xvart
      blocks
      Cobblerfone
      , who stayed home anyway.
    6. Tanarin
      guards
      Herodotus
      , along with both
      populartajo
      and
      Zdenek
, all not strictly necessary as he's not targeted for kills (somewhat surprisingly).
    7. Kinetic
again goes out himself to recruit xvart, predicting correctly that Yosarian will continue to be jailkept.
    8. NS
      wanted to kill
      LLD
, but spent the night with DGB instead, as mentioned above.
    9. Battousai kills springlullaby, in an inspired moment of upward mobility in his job at the bank. Unfortunately...
    10. ooba
      watches the bank, seeing
      Battousai
      and
      springlullaby
enter together. Why he doesn't mention that this contradicts the morning scene, I'm not certain...
    11. Seraphim
      tracks
      DGB
      to
      NS
      's place.
    12. Herodotus
      investigates
      Battousai
, finding him to have a clean record (surprisingly, given his bloodlust, but them's the rules...)
    13. ConSpiracy replaces Fritzler
, then apparently misunderstands his role PM and 'visits' his home base, the barber shop. Opts not to Commute.
    Factions are
    3
    -
    16

    2. bvoigt

      Herodutus

do you really need me to keep saying this?

      Herodotus

Mr. Flay, in a PM to Yosarian: wrote:
Yosarian2 meets you at the door this time. "Going for a ride again, are we? Have it your way, swine.." He seems unreasonably amused with your antics of beating him over the head and dragging him downtown for a cold night in a cell.

That might be because his boss has just pulled up beside your squad car. Joseph "Kinetic" Camisano has basically tripled your monthly salary in order to ensure that your interests align with his. Given that the alternative is probably a bullet behind the ear, you stammer out an acceptance of the 'offer you can't refuse'.
He is recruited, you are only nominally detained, but too late to do anything else tonight.
4. xvart
      blocked
      Herodotus
again (Hero's target was to be
      ConSpiracy
      ).
    5. Battousai
      kills
      ooba
, the other junkie. This was the only paired 'public profession' that had related secret roles.
    6. In a fiddly bit of rules-intersecting,
      NS
      goes to kill
      Yosarian
again. Because of the jailkeep, it fails. In a realistic situation, Ludi would have let Yos go after being recruited, and then Yos would have died, which would have been
      very
      interesting for the game-state.
    7. Amrun
      protects

Same thing

It's incredibly fast-paced. I need to figure out what time of year will be best to run it... right now I'm playing for a change, and then it's the holidays, so probably January.

Oh. Forgot about one thing during game setup that I probably should have mentioned so it wouldn't be a distraction.

Due to the total weirdness of the setup (MultiCultScumStumpWhiteFlag), I asked the 'older' half of the playerlist (by join date) by PM if they'd mind being a Cult Leader that was a Stump. Almost everyone said they were fine with it, so I still had a pool of about 12 players, but that part wasn't 100% randomized, since a newer player couldn't get it. The 'playing' roles were properly random, or course. DGB mentioned this during the game but I don't think it ever became a big deal.
