Difference between Total War and no total war is basically as follows:

Normal - Scum get 4 extra kills, while town get's extra information from lynch.
Total War - Eliminate the 4 kills that scum get to choose, while also removing possibly vital dayplay information.

Benefit of Total War is that it allows the 4 townies that scum may find as a threat to them to get their say on things, and potentially kill scum. Having played as scum in Defcon 2.0, having those NKs to remove potential nuke threats (as in, players who may nuke you) is very important.

The EuroTrash only get 1 shot before Nukes start flying. And the Terrorist does get 2 but doesn't have the back-up and might cross-kill. I'd rather some actual organized scum-hunting happen before Nukes are armed.

Maybe the recently ending Superhero Mafia will explain what I'm talking about. Look how horribly a few town kills that were in the hands of one player screwed the town over. Emphasizing our "vig" shots and taking away our ability to talk things over is most likely going to confuse people and help the scum.

These shots are not only public, but each player only has one shot each day. PLUS they can be canceled.

The one-day of QT communication it offers will be vital and something scum definately wants. My team last game was terribad, and not having the freedom to communicate freely in the QT definately drove our team into the ground (on top of 2 of us having quit the game, but meh).

I'm in agreement with Magua's general thinking on Troop deployment claims and very much like the Sub idea. Any Townie wanting to go Silo should follow that 100%.

Now that SDC has checked in we only have to wait for our illustrius Mod to check in to move us to Defcon 4.

I get that defensive mode can cover for scum that don't want to claim something else but defensive mode can be useful for not getting nuked by scum on their way out or for not getting dead if someone's super-tunneling on you but you think they're more likely town than not, plus if they need to prove it they can just change to offensive the next day and nuke the otherwise lynched target, am I missing something with why it's so terrible?

Oh, that does make the super-tunneling thing not apply since everyone can just yell at the person to cancel the nuke if it's bad.

Still think that if someone is hilariously obvtown then they should be able to use defensive mode but if they're that town then well they're town so we can all chill about it.

Fail Safe is worse than a missle silo in over 95% of situations (exceptions are scum with battleship and the protectee nukes you or probable scum claims fallout shelter since it goes through everything or dying n2) so you should really just go sub->missle or get something else instead like Magua suggested.

No one is to have nukes in defence mode. Let scum claim if they want to nuke hilariously obvtown players, the trade is worth it.

Counterintelligence isn't all that you're make it out to be. Scum will have to be psychic to be able to use it correctly. It's not going to be super-high on their lists either from what AV showed me of their roles in Defcon 2 and from what I know of my mindset in Defcon 1.

Eavesdrop we definately want town to have, then counterintelligence.

As Magua already said, all town players that want nuke should put sub as first choice, then nuke.

Actually, I probably should go back and dig up some of the Defcon v2.0 posts, there were some gems there as to drafting if I remember.

Katsuki if it's pretty obvious they're going to die, either from consensus the day before or from a cop investigation or a launched nuke or whatever there's nothing preventing them from nuking the towniest person in the game if the battleship is dead or in scum hands. Having one or two uber-towns in defensive mode could be really helpful for preventing that, and it'll probably be pretty obvious who the obvtowns are (hint: they probably nuked scum earlier)- if there's a non-obvtown in defensive mode then yeah it dies.

Anyone with a nuke in defensive mode will be lynched on site. No questions asked. It's a scumclaim.

Okay, so the town can discuss with the launching player, and even threaten them. That doesn't change what I'm saying. The one player still has the power to take out a townie single-handedly, and possibly get themselves lynched in the process, which would kill two townies. But it's not happening, so I guess this discussion isn't so useful any more.

It'd be nice if town had Espeonage, Eavesdrop, Battleship, Sub and Counter. These imo are probably the most useful PRs either in the hands of town or scum (battleship especially is something scum want).

Also, the way the draft works, the more town players that go for a role (say, put it as #1), the higher the chance town gets it.

Of course, this game will be different from DEFCON 2.0, since we only have 1 scumteam rather than 2, so you don't have the scumteams fighting for certain roles as well.. We probably need a plan of some sorts in terms of drafting.

Just my two cents on those of you still trying to pick your deployments.

I would argue that Counter-Intelligence isn't going to be as high on the scum lists as anyone may think. A good scum team will have already established crypto and the framing is a crap shoot each night in most cases. It's useful, but not a required to get power for them in any way, and without the super cracker (Percy) in this game, Eavesdrop may not be as scary to them.

Coming from someone who put every role in the game on his list in the last game and still got a Silo, I will also push that you make sure that the one you absolutely think you have the best shot at, or the one you absolutely want to contest the most, is in the number one position. Make the decision as to whether you are going to contest a role or try and pick one you don't think others are going to pick. Because after that first pick, your odds of getting your second pick are abysmally low, and you will likely end up with a Silo.

Panda makes a good point about Eavesdrop. Without Percy, the effectiveness does drop significantly. I would urge anyone who is good at breaking codes to give Eavesdrop a try though, as there is a HUGE difference in scum having eavesdrop and town having it (just ask yourselves, would you talk more freely as scum KNOWING that your QT is safe vs unsafe?).

Counterintellegence secures scum QT for one gameday. How about we make claiming counterintellegence a scumclaim and be done with that? (AKA, NUKE ON SITE).
