Qualified, as in, you can mod that type of game or you can play that type of game? :/Kise wrote: For certain types of games, yes, Andrius.

The 1st step when preparing to mod a large theme, for example, requires that the reviewer is qualified with that type of game. I haven't checked, but I'm sure it is likewise for other types of games."This is the true face of a man who plays paladin."-

Wow, I feel kinda' honored to have Mr. Flay helping me out. XDMr. Flay wrote: Well, you can't be the 'official' reviewer for a game, no. But that doesn't mean you can't use your experience to help somebody look at a setup, poke holes in their theme, etc. We just like to have somebody with a bit of experience at that type of game 'sign off' on it before it's run, to avoid problems later.
Alright, that makes sense. Thanks Flay!
In that case, Parama, I'll totally look ar your set-up, as long as you know I can't be used as "official"."This is the true face of a man who plays paladin."-

Plum and I need some reviews forLord of the Rings: Mafia.
We're looking for some Setup Reviewers for the awesome setup we've designed. Its 24 players, and a Large Theme game. Experience is great.
If you are interested in helping in either form, please contact me or the joint-modding account titled Bilbo Baggins.
Please and thank you~!

I think we're good, reviewer wise.
Thanks to xReckx, mallowgeno, CallMeLiam, Faraday, Kdub and ooba. <3Last edited by Andrius on Sun Jul 11, 2010 8:11 pm, edited 1 time in total."This is the true face of a man who plays paladin."-

In my experience, I've usually received setups I review in PMs. Usually the roles are just listed in a list in a PM. For more complicated setups, I've seen a QT. Personally, I use Excel sheets for setup designing, but then transfer them to a list in a PM.NicolBolas wrote:What form does reviewing usually take? I have my game setup, role PMs and flavor all ready in PowerPoint and Keynote form, so I would like to use email. Or is there some other way to do it, normally?

OH GOD YES. I LOVED THAT GAME. 8DVi wrote:I need a reviewer and general help forMafia at High Noon. If you've seen the previously-run game Last Man Standing, this is similar. If you haven't, the general idea is that everyone has a gun and isn't afraid to use it.
Half of the problem I'm having is in writing flavor, so if'n yeh can speak like the locals of an ol' western town, that'll be a right boon.
I can cross-review.
That game made me a fan of hohum, you, and VP Baltar. <3
I'm willing to help you out. I'd play, but it would probably be just as fun to watch. I mean, do all the characters have to speak the same dialect? Like, could one be an indian, one be a city slicker, recent immigrant, that type of deal. Even if they all have the same role dealio, (or unless you're planning on all the mafioso to be one group/dialect and the other to be different), a bit of linguistic freedom would go a long way in making the game special."This is the true face of a man who plays paladin."-

Also willing to cross-review to the best of my ability, although I recommend not using me as the sole reviewer since I'm not that confident in my reviewing abilities yet.
You can;t mod that in the Normal Queue, so I'd wait a little bit before making it."This is the true face of a man who plays paladin."-

I've got a 12-player mini theme game based off The Godfather. (It will be the first game in short series of Godfather-themed games.)
If I could have one more set of eyes look it over that would be great. (Already reviewed byCallMeLiam.)

Hey so I'd like a couple (1-2) reviewers to look over the Lord of the Rings mini theme I plan on running soon.
(Note: Its sort of a sequel to the large Plum and I ran, so it doesn't exactly follow a set film/novel.)
Flavor knowledge isn't necessary, BTW.
edit: Ok cool I have 3 people. I think that's good.

Who exactly looked at it? lolAmrun wrote:Yes, I've heard. I'd like to try it anyway. I had one mod look at it and she says she thinks it will work for the site and be fun.
Of course, by the time I am able to mod it, I will have played on these forums for quite a while and modded some other games here. If I am lucky, I will gain a good reputation and people will want to play in my games.
If I can find a way to cut it down while still keeping the balance, I will. That's one of the reasons I was asking for reviews.
More info: It's a deep theme game.
I have modded other big games (45+) on other sites all by myself, which much shorter turnover time for gameplay, so I am not really worried about the workload.
45+ would be very hard, IMO.

Hey, I need 2 people (or more) to look over a Large Theme for me (and dana) based on Greek Mythology.
20 players. Power-heavy (reminiscient of Greek Mythos). No Cults or bastard moddery.
I'm just looking for people who are willing to spend a bit of time working over the setup, bounce ideas off, look for breakage. Typical stuff.

I'm looking for a couple reviewers for Encore Mafia: Moderator Edition. There's no setup now as its designed around the players playing the game (all players will get a role from a previously modded game of theirs), but 1-2 people willing to help design/balance the setup when the time comes would be awesome.
Thanks much!

In post 2748, RIP wrote:I'm thinking of a big theme game. I would like someone to teach me the ropes or link me to must reads for new mods or some interesting discussion.
Another question is, do all games need to be reviewed? What happens if a game is reviewed but they think it's not balanced or something?
No. Not all games need to be reviewed. Non-Open Games are most often reviewed by at least one reviewer to check for various things. Always for balance, often for breaking strategies or interactions that the mod may have missed in design.
Large Theme Gamesrequirereviews. Smaller games to not require them but it is generally good form to have games reviewed.
This is a decent-length read written by Vi years ago on modding. There's a lot of good things in here.
RIP wrote:What happens if a game is reviewed but they think it's not balanced or something?
This is a bit more complex; reviewers generally must agree to the setup in its final state.
But generally the reviewer will give the mod their criticism and comments on the game.
The mod, being the creator/designer, can choose to add/remove/modify their setup as they wish. After all, if a mod wishes to run a game and ignore their reviewers they are fine to do so as long as the reviewer is not listed as giving their approval.
But generally reviewers are not asses and generally provide feedback or recommendations to balance a game."This is the true face of a man who plays paladin."-
