Yup, I do think that I needed to do what I did.
For the record I really thought he was scum from the start, so it wasn't all a reaction test, that grew with time.
I'm also one of those "crash-and-burn" players, so for me it doesn't really matter if I look scummy as long as I catch scum.

If you're not going to give a decent reason for doing this, then it looks a lot like hopping onto a bandwagon. Fact is that a lot of your posts have been you quoting something someone said and saying things like "confirmed town" or whatever, which really isn't helpful at this point. No-one could possibly be confirmed anything this early unless something very unusual happens.

I'm sorry but this doesn't make any sense, even as a policy lynch. I'm aware it's frustrating when people self-vote (especially if they self-hammer, that really is annoying), however, if players refuse to play to their win condition, they tend to get replaced or, in serious cases, modkilled, it's in the site rules after all to play to your win condition. So policy-lynching Oversoul because he's self-voting is a waste of a lynch (because we could be lynching someone who's actually showing scummy behaviour, and therefore we'd be relying less on chance to have caught scum), and, if you think he's town, it's very counterproductive, especially if you're right.

Oversoul, Estyn's concerns are valid, there are much better ways to get reads and interactions (and to catch scum) than psuedo-wagons on people who post one stupid thing that may or may not make them scum. We need to avoid getting paranoid if we're going to lynch scum on Day 1, which is definitely the hardest day to do so.

Scumhunting is rolefishing.

I guess it can be, but, as Chronos said, not all rolefishing is scumhunting. And even when it is, it's one of the worst and least efficient ways of scumhunting, a lot of the time the information garnered from it is more useful to anti-town players than it is to everyone else.

Sure not all rolefishing is scumhunting, but why do you think I was looking for, say, a town PR, instead of mafia or some third party?

The point was that you were trying to find out if he was VT or not.

Lets say you did find out this information, lets see who gains the most out of it:

a) You find out he's probably a VT

Town Gains: One player who it's probably best to avoid lynching
Scum Gains: One player it's probably not worth NKing
Net Gains: About a dead heat in usefulness between the two factions.

b) You find out he's probably not a VT

Town Gains: You can probably eliminate one role from a list of roles he could possibly be. He could still be Mafia, SK, or any Power Role.
Scum Gains: If he's scum, they knew that anyway, but if he's town, then he's probably a power role, and probably very much worth killing. Simply because of the number of town compared to scum, it's more likely it's the second, hence making it reasonably likely that we would lose a powerful utility to help us win the game quite soon.
Net Gains: Scum definitely find this info more useful.

First off, "You're NOT a VT" is not rolefishing. We never said "Oh hey what are you then". I think it's perfectly valid to ask whether someone was really claiming or not. I mean, a misunderstanding like a joke claiming could change stuff drastically later in the game. The second point isn't even rolefishing. This case is pathetic.

The problem was that "You're NOT a VT" was phrased like a statement, not a question.

I really don't like this "rolefishing" accusation. It's really not always a bad thing to share information.. for example, a Vig claiming means the Town can discuss shot placement, and an unclaimed Doc can cover him at night. A claimed Cop means that people can be confirmed as non-Scum (Not Town, there's always the possibility of third parties, and I suppose GFs too, but those are somewhat rarer.)

I honestly haven't seen much warranting such a heavy response against SP..

That makes an awful lot of assumptions about other roles, for example, there even being a Doc in the game, or at least one without further implications, such as a Jailkeeper. Sharing info like roles, especially this early in the game, is almost never a good idea because we don't yet have the information required to utilise such things properly.

My case against Oversoul has already been briefly touched. One, self voting is retarded, no matter what the circumstances.

I agree it's annoying, but not necessarily scummy. From your research, either 2 or 3 of the instances you pointed out of self-voting were done by townies (the third example wasn't very clear). Furthermore, from my own experience, self-voting has, at best, no correlation with a player being scum, and a lot more to do with players getting irritated.

The Oversoul wagon stinks of scum, with Xeras and Kcdaslot looking the worst, but I also have my eye on redFF and David Xanatos too, both for little activity, bandwagoning. Interesting that David seems to think "I'm not sure if the game has started yet" when it's 30 pages long is a good excuse for not posting much. In fact I have a reasonable gut feeling that he's scum trying to ride Day 1 out cheaply, however Xeras and Kcda has stronger reasoning behind them for me so far

Because the only actual reasoning I've seen Secret Project give for Bomberman being scum, despite the fact he's voted for him, is that he was first on that list you posted. So for him to be scum based upon that reasoning, you'd have to be scum as well, so why exactly he voted for Bomberman and not you on that reasoning makes absolutely no sense whatsoever.

One of the easiest ways to avoid suspicion on day two is to be sure you are not on a bandwagon

Don't be daft Empking, it's the town's job to find scum and lynch them. That looks a lot like you're trying to make an excuse for us to waste a days lynch on an easy target.

I agree, this appears to be blatant rolefishing, not only that but an odd reluctance to vote for lewarcher when it's clearly the thing to do right now.

Well Oversoul clearly has a decent reason to want us to be voting for lewarcher, unless he's trying some audacious bluff. That seems to be a more solid bet to be voting for somebody than arguing about it for 40 pages which will almost certainly end in most of us losing our temper.

It may well be scum driven for all I know, but I don't see a much better course of action for us to do now.

However I never like flaker and that's why I'm ready to vote for any of them anytime of the day but that's my policy on it and it has nothing to do with alignment.

That's always a horrid reason to vote for somebody, it usually ends with wasting an entire days opportunity to take out scum. Lynching a lurker can in fact be easily much worse than a regular town lynch.

Lets say the Lurker happens to be a town Power Role. If we run up that player when he's active, he will usually claim, which might well save us lynching that power role, maybe even lynching scum in his place if we're lucky. Sure he'd have outed himself as a PR, but that's much better than him being completely wiped from the game, which is what would almost certainly happen if the Power Role is a lurker, because he certainly won't be claiming.

I've never liked people who profess to policy-lynch lurkers, it seems like a massive excuse to try and get the town to waste a days lynch, it is almost always better to lynch scum based upon a reasoned argument and scummy behavior, even if it does cause some of us to lose our rags. Lurking is not scummy behavior, it is totally neutral.
