If your N1 shot had succeeded, Katsuki would have been the only living scum going into N2. So don't feel bad.

Hm. If kills resolve before recruitment, does the person recruiting need to survive the night to carry out the recruitment?

Nah - think of it more as a 'the person doesn't make up their mind to accept the recruitment until all other options are exhausted'. For similar reasons, recruited couldn't change their night actions just because they were recruited.
Retired as of October 2014.

See, the best thing about Flay games is that you get a nice mix of oldies and newer players (and people in the middle like me).
I like Cult games because they're a challenge.
But its hard to balance them and most mods can't get that to that level.

Okay, I'm pretty sure this translation of my spreadsheet is accurate:
• Night Zero
: Only recruiters get to act;
Kinetic
chooses Yos, of course, and
ABR
recruited Porochaz.
2
-
2
-
23
.
• Day One
:
Chronopie
, the rerecruitable Private Investigator, gets lynched. inHim replaces Dry-Fit, LLD replaces Cecily. Andrius replaces RaudhrGarm.
All of my clever naming gets jacked up trying to wedge replacements' names in. :P
Factions stand at
2
-
2
-
22
.
• Night One
:
1. LLD
defends
Andrius
from recruitment.
2. bvoigt
defends
DGB
from recruitment, which succeeds the
second
Night is takes effect.
3. Ludi
jailkeeps
Yosarian2
, spoiling his recruitment action.
4. DGB
misses her night choice.
5. xvart
blocks
ThAdmiral
from visiting #21.
6. Tanarin
guards
DGB
's life.
7. populartajo
also protects
DGB
's life.
8. Zdenek
protects
ooba
.
9. Battousai
kills
inHim
in the street.
10. NS
tries to kill
Yosarian
, who is in jail and thus safe.
11. ABR
wants to recruit
LLD
(which he can't), but screws up and shows Katsuki his QuickTopic in meat world, so has to have
Porochaz
recruit Katsuki instead.
12. Kinetic
tries to send
Yosarian
to recruit
ooba
, but Yosarian ends up in jail instead.
13. ooba
watches the grocery store, seeing
Porochaz
return home at the end of the Night.
14. Seraphim
tries to track
Yosarian
, but can't find him anywhere.
15. Herodotus
investigates
Porochaz
, finding his police file newly dirty of late.
16. Kinetic
visits the newspaper office but can't get in; they're running the presses in the back (flavor text only).
17. Andrius
also visits the newspaper office, finding much the same results.
18. Fritzler
visited the factory at #13 (coincidentally where
inHim
worked), getting a description and that's all.
19. Bunnylover
tries to visit the church, but it's locked up tight.
20. Cobblerfone
visits Harlow's Night Club for a drink and some flavor text.
21. springlullaby
visits the mystery building labeled "?", getting some clues as to the name of the place (it's a red herring, just some interesting local history)
22. ThAdmiral
wanted to visit Cascone's but was blocked. If he had succeeded, he would have been shown to
ABR
as hanging around outside.
Factions stand at
3
-
2
-
20
, but not for long.
• Day Two
:
Porochaz
is lynched on
Herdotus
' word after only about 8 days.
2
-
2
-
20
now.
• Night Two
:
1. LLD
defends
Andrius/Toasty
from recruitment, but not from vigilantes.
2. bvoigt
defends
Herodotus
from recruitment.
3. Ludi
jailkeeps
Yosarian
again.
4. DGB
blocks
xvart
, which stops
xvart
from blocking
Cobblerfone
.
5. Tanarin
guards
DGB
.
6. Zdenek
and
populartajo
both protect
Herodotus
.
7. NS
kills
Andrius/Toasty Toast.
.
8. ThAdmiral
visits Cascone's successfully, then gets killed by
Battousai
. He was ABR's original idea for a recruitment, so it's just as well...
9. ABR
actually sends
Katsuki
to recruit springlullaby, who is incorruptible.
10. Kinetic
goes himself to recruit
DGB
, who is still defended from recruitment by
bvoigt
's action from N1.
11. ooba
watches Uncle Joe's Tavern (
Kinetic
's home base). He sees someone come out (
Kinetic
) but can't identify who in the dark.
12. Seraphim
tracks
Ludi
to Dinkeldorf's Deli, but loses track of what he does next (taking Yosarian down to jail).
13. Herodotus
looks into
Flameaxe
's record, finding it clean of organized crime ties (but not indecency standards)
14. Bunnylover
goes to visit the Main Street Drive-In Liquor store... what a lush...
15. Coblerfone
visits the mystery building, getting a different chunk of the deteriorated name on the place.
16. Fritzler
visits the park after dark. Nothing happens.
17. springlullaby
visits Chronopie's former place of business, the shuttered Warner Photographic Studio.

Factions are at
2
-
2
-
18
after the vigkills.
• Day Three
: Everybody wants to play Follow-The-Cop! When Herodotus doesn't have anything for them, they settle for an imploding
Katsuki
. This takes down the
ABR
faction,
0
-
2
-
18
.
• Night Three
:
1. bvoigt
defends
Herodotus
again, not knowing that his defense lasts two Nights.
2. LLD
defends
DGB
against recruitment.
3. Ludi
continues to harass
Yosarian
by jailkeeping him; the Night PMs start to say as much. :D
4. DGB
blocks
NS
from killing
LLD
, which would have been
bad
for town.
5. xvart
blocks
Cobblerfone
, who stayed home anyway.
6. Tanarin
guards
Herodotus
, along with both
populartajo
and
Zdenek
, all not strictly necessary as he's not targeted for kills (somewhat surprisingly).
7. Kinetic
again goes out himself to recruit xvart, predicting correctly that Yosarian will continue to be jailkept.
8. NS
wanted to kill
LLD
, but spent the night with DGB instead, as mentioned above.
9. Battousai kills springlullaby, in an inspired moment of upward mobility in his job at the bank. Unfortunately...
10. ooba
watches the bank, seeing
Battousai
and
springlullaby
enter together. Why he doesn't mention that this contradicts the morning scene, I'm not certain...
11. Seraphim
tracks
DGB
to
NS
's place.
12. Herodotus
investigates
Battousai
, finding him to have a clean record (surprisingly, given his bloodlust, but them's the rules...)
13. ConSpiracy replaces Fritzler
, then apparently misunderstands his role PM and 'visits' his home base, the barber shop. Opts not to Commute.
Factions are
3
-
16
.
• Day Four
:For no reason I can determine, the town decides to lynch...
Darox
?? This was almost entirely a town-led wagon, with Yos jumping on in the middle (like he usually did in this game) to lend strength. A lot of people seemed to think he (Tanarin) was lurking, when actually he was replaced. Even after this is mentioned, people continue to want him dead.
3
-
15
.
• Night Four
:
1. LLD
defends
Cobblerfone
from recruitment.
2. bvoigt
again 'wastes' his cult doctor action on
Herodutus
, which isn't his fault since he doesn't know it's twice as effective (or that Hero's not getting targeted).
3. Ludi
jails
Yos
...
do you really need me to keep saying this?

4. xvart
blocks
Herodotus
, in a rather gutsy move by scum. This stops
Herodotus
from investigating
Zdenek
, but could have outed xvart badly.
5. DGB
blocks
tajo
, then gets killed by
NS
.
I briefly consider turning one of the Vigilantes into a Serial Killer, then slap myself until it stops...

6. Battousai kills
Seraphim
, then gets recruited by
Kinetic
.
7. Zdenek
protects
Herodutus
.
8. ooba
sees
NS
go upstairs to
DGB
's place. I don't recall if he put two and two together when she turned up dead...
9. ConSpiracy
visits the church, but it's still locked up at Night.
10. Bunnylover
visits yet another bar: Delaware Daddy's this time...

Factions stand at
4
-
12
.
• Day Five
: Paranoia runs rampant; the Doc and a Cult Doc get run up for a bit, then tajo gets replaced by Amrun.
xvart
gets some traction in a wagon for a while, but eventually they take out...
Zdenek
? :?
4
-
11

• Night Five
:
1. bvoigt
switches to defending
Battousai
from recruitment, a day late... :(
2. LLD
defends
Cobblerfone
from recruitment.
3. Ludi goes to jailkeep
Yosarian
again. Yosarian is sent to recruit
Ludi
. This leads to the following:
Mr. Flay, in a PM to Yosarian: wrote:
Yosarian2 meets you at the door this time. "Going for a ride again, are we? Have it your way, swine.." He seems unreasonably amused with your antics of beating him over the head and dragging him downtown for a cold night in a cell.

That might be because his boss has just pulled up beside your squad car. Joseph "Kinetic" Camisano has basically tripled your monthly salary in order to ensure that your interests align with his. Given that the alternative is probably a bullet behind the ear, you stammer out an acceptance of the 'offer you can't refuse'.
He is recruited, you are only nominally detained, but too late to do anything else tonight.
4. xvart
blocked
Herodotus
again (Hero's target was to be
ConSpiracy
).
5. Battousai
kills
ooba
, the other junkie. This was the only paired 'public profession' that had related secret roles.
6. In a fiddly bit of rules-intersecting,
NS
goes to kill
Yosarian
again. Because of the jailkeep, it fails. In a realistic situation, Ludi would have let Yos go after being recruited, and then Yos would have died, which would have been
very
interesting for the game-state.
7. Amrun
protects
Ludi
.
8. ConSpiracy
also visits the Warner Photographic Studio, finding it empty and abandoned.
Factions are starting to get ugly:
5
-
9

• Day Six
: All four Camisano minions orchestrate a lynch of
ConSpiracy
, sealing the gamestate (
5
-
8
, with a kill and a recruitment available to them) unless a vigilante takes out a Camisano, or a Camisano tries to kill the Army Veteran...
• Night Six
:
1. bvoigt
is jailkept by
Ludi
, preventing him from 'defending'
Battousai
.
2. LLD
is blocked by
xvart
from defending
Cobblerfone
.
3. Herodotus
investigated
xvart
, finding him dirty, to no avail...
4. Amrun
protected
Ludi
, then died to
Battousai
.
5. NS
killed
Flameaxe
, then got recruited by
Yosarian
...

• Day Seven
: Endgame, with
6
-
5
. Kinetic is given the choice to recruit, kill, or ignore (they still lose, just in a different way flavorwise) the remaining Townies. Abandoning the "Hope" motif, he tells me to kill them all.
1. Battousai
is sent to kill
Amrun
.
2. Yosarian
is sent to kill
LLD
.
3. Ludi
kills
Herodotus
.
4. xvart
kills
Cobblerfone
, getting killed in return due to the Army Vet passive ability.
He still wins, of course...

5. Kinetic
kills
bvoigt
himself.
What a terrible Catholic...
Retired as of October 2014.

HOW CULT GAMES SHOULD ALWAYS WORK.
NO BULLSHIT RECRUIT EVERYONE LEFT STANDING.

When cult wins, the only winners is the recruiter/leader and the N0/pregame recruits (players who didn't get a chance to play by their original wincon). Everyone else on the cult are just zombies who lose no matter what (as playing against original wincon means you can no longer win with that faction).

Yeah but in Succession I every townie (except me, who opted to die) was culted in endgame for a big happy win. "Its ok you didn't really try at the end, here's a win anyway!"
Sorry but that just sucked. Because we played ALL GAME against the cult and people just gave up. :/

Yeah, a general sense of apathy always sets in on towns during or towards the end of cult games usually. Its really frustrating because people start not caring.

I also don't agree with you Batt, as the culted people are necessary for the cult to win, and usually only at the end of the game does it start not mattering who gets recruited.
