Giuseppe Smania, the mayor of Montescuro, was returning home late that day. He had to mediate yet another dispute between two elderly citizens in his village. The demand for their wine at the capital was getting smaller and smaller every year, and that did nothing to help the moods of the few remaining inhabitants.

However, these petty troubles disappeared from his mind when he found the door to his house swinging loosely. Inside the cottage, broken furniture, bullet holes, and the bodies of his two daughters and wife.

In shock, Giuseppe did not notice a shadow creeping up behind him.

Rules: (Adapted from The Fonz)

0.) Be civil. This is a game. Personal attacks are punishable by modkill.

1.) This game is a day start. Day one will start when everyone has confirmed via PM. Any group which has an ability to communicate at night may also communicate before the first day begins.

2.) During the day you can vote for a player that you think should be lynched. Votes must be in the form Vote: Player otherwise they won't be counted. Players do not need to unvote when switching their votes, but it would be appreciated. All votes and unvotes must be in bold. It is also possible to vote no-lynch.

3.) When a player (or abstract concept) reaches a majority of votes, they are lynched. I will reveal their role, and the game will move into night. No discussion takes place during the night, except amongst roles who have been given specific permission to do so.

4.) An automatic deadline of 1 month is set from the day opening post. Players may request a deadline extension. The mod may or may not grant the extension (having multiple players ask for it helps). At the deadline, the number of votes necessary for a lynch will be cut by half.

5.) No talking to other players, dead or alive, outside of the thread, unless your role permits it.

6.) Once dead, you stop posting. You may post a single bah post, without game-relevant content.

7.) If you have any questions, feel free to PM me.

8.) Try to post as often as possible. Treat the game as a commitment. If you go inactive, you will be replaced.

9.) I'll try to post votecounts as often as possible. Feel free to ask for a votecount at any time.

10.) Do not in any way quote or fakequote your role PM. This is a modkillable offence. Any attempt to ascertain another players' role from the wording of their PM will be dealt with likewise.

As the sun started to set, the town had reached a decision. Near was not going to speak, so he had to die.

Half of the elders left the group to pick up the dusty rope, which had not been used for years. The rest remained behind to hold Near until his fateful hour. But when the sun set, a tear ran down Near's cheek.

G - Near... he is innocent! And Coron is guilty! I'm sure of it!
N - But he said he was someone important...

A furious discussion followed - and at the very last moment, when Coron was just returning with the lynching implements, the group rushed him and quickly ran him down.

Day 2:

EvilGorrilaz was the quiet, pensative type. He liked being by himself, and recent events only increased his introspective nature. No one saw him during the lynching of Coron, and no one saw him head back to his cottage by himself that evening.

In the early hours of the next day, the village awoke to the sounds of shots being fired - everyone gathered in the center of Montescuro, and it took quite a while before they realized that EvilGorrilaz was the one missing this time.

Two people were sent to check in his house and, surely enough, the door was missing, and EG's body was found laying on the floor, several bullet wounds through his chest and abdomen.

The villagers prepare a quick funeral for the departed, before discussing what to do next.

As the second day opens in Montescuro, the village is agitated. Who is responsible for the death of the mayor, the town tracker, and poor EvilGorrilaz?

- MBF? Does his flash introduction to mafia really mean that he knows everything about how to kill townies?
- Dasquian? Who would trust a talking duck?
- DBE? Would her charming ways and newbiesh smile hide a cunning murderer?
- Pyrodwarf? Is a two-faced avatar proof of a two-faced personality?

The town went back and forth between its options, and as the day went by, it seemed that they would never reach a conclusion. At that moment, Near, who had been quiet the whole day, has an epiphany.

- Near, what's wrong with you?
- Near?

N> I know! I know everything! It's the DUCK! The duck is evil! The duck is responsible for all of this.

Dasq> Near, are you crazy?

N> I'm not near anymore... I... I... call me ABR, scum!

SL> Why is Dasquian scum, exactly?

ABR> He is! Town, Lynch Dasquian and free yourselves from oppression! This is the right thing to do!

Yos2> You know that you're not giving us a reason right?
Joudas> He seems pretty convincing, though.

ABR> GOD TOLD ME that the duck is EVIL! IT IS OUR DESTINY! OUR DUTY! Vote the duck, for FREEDOM! Are you against FREEDOM?

Rallying behind Albert's powerful arguments, the town quickly round up Dasquian and lynch him. At dusk, the villagers gather at the center of Montescuro to enjoy roasted duck.

However, as the sun sets, the villagers quickly realize their main mistake:


How would a duck ever be able to kill a man, anyway?


Embarassed, everyone quickly heads back to their cottages, hoping to wake up alive next morning.

The third day dawns in the small village of Montescuro, in a similar manner to the second: Shouts coming from somewhere, then gunshots, then nothing.

You run toward the sounds, and end up at Singing Librarian's cabin. Again, the door is busted down, the interior destroyed, and his bloodied body is found in the middle of the room.

This time, however, it seems obvious that Singing Librarian did not go down without a fight. His dead hand is firmly gripping a large shotgun, which shows signs of recent use.

The few remaining villagers of Montescuro bury the body of SL, and gather at the center of the town to decide what to do.

While burying DBE's body, the villagers realized that they didn't have any more margin for error. They discuss back and forth, trying to remember where each villager was during the first few days.

- You know what? I think that Yosarian2 has only voted for innocent

- Eh? and that is a bad thing how?

The villagers, using of irredeemable logic, run after Yosarian2, and start punching and kicking him, like a true lynch mob, until his body stopped moving.

When everybody calmed down, though, the dead body in the floor was not Yosarian2's body anymore.

At dusk, Guardian returns to his cottage, triumphant. He was right about Yos, and now he could use his training to find the rest of the scum. As he was deciding who he would investigate next, he finds the door to his home busted open.

Before he can even think of turning around to flee, something knocks his head from behind.

In the next morning, the town never finds the body of Guardian, the cop. But the big splotches of blood in his home leaves no doubt about what happened.

The tempers were hot in Montescuro. Sides were taken, and those in opposing sides were ferociously defending their opinions.

One person didn't have anyone take their side though.

And so the town stringed up Joudas while the sun was still high. They all crossed their fingers while his body went limp. Like with Yosarian2, the dead body started growing larger and hairier...

"We got the two of them! We got the two of them!" - Werewolves were so rare, that the villagers of Montescuro thought the threat to be over, and went to sleep tight that night. It was a shock when, in the morning of the next day, the gathering ground of the village was bathed in blood - the already dried blood formed misshapen letters: "I got one too".

Mikeburnfire was nowhere to be found, but his shirt, torn and thrown in a corner, was obviously used to create this macabre warning

The last day in the village of Montescuro was very short - every one knew what to do:

Killa Seven> I think Macavenger is the last wolf.

Macavenger> So you are the last wolf, Killah? Of course, it makes sense - you killed MBF overnight, the last person who suspected you.

ABR> Stop talking, Mac! We caught you! You are the last wolf!

Macavenger> But don't you see, Albert? This is what Joudas wanted all the time! He pretended to attack Killa Seven!

ABR> Lies! You're going to die wolf! For Coron!

Macavenger> Wait! Why do you think Killa Seven is all quiet over there, grinning?

But ABR had decided. He grabbed a fallen log, and hit Macavenger over his head. Over, and over again. As Mac started to bleed, ABR sang the Russian Anthem, The Majestosa, and "We are the Champions", alternately.

ABR> Call the bitches, Killa! We won! We're gonna have a PARTY! Tonight!

Killah Nine> You know, Albert, you shouldn't have hitten Mac so hard - the brain has leaked into the meat - he is unedible now.

Killah Nine> Oh, no, never mind. Like you said, we won... woof.

ABR> NOOO!

In the winter, in that region, there were fewer reports of wolf attacks on people and cattle - they were well fed for the season already.

The Setup:

As some people mentioned in the thread, I tried to challenge some meta conventions when creating the setup.

1) "no docs". The doc meta was so strong that the mafia avoided the two claimed power roles in the first night.

2) "werewolves"/naive cop twist. There were NO references to mafia in the flavor, other than Guardian's PM. Guardian was a cop who thought the killings were caused by the mafia. He got mafia/not mafia results (an idea I got from Stoofer's "Pirates vs Ninjas").

3) Adding a dayvig to compensate for the daystart (give the town one extra lynch). And because dayvigs are cool. I'm a bit disappointed that S.L. did not use his power.

4) As for the tracker and watcher, I wanted to add one, both or neither to balance the town (1 naive cop and one dayvig seemed a bit weak). Oman, who reviewed my setup, suggested adding both, and I think it was a good decision. I was pleasantly surprised with the "too many info roles" paranoia.

Modding decisions

- When I designed the game, I said that the werewolves would have a gun kill method in their PMs. I realize during D1 that this was rather silly (even though not impossible), and I could effect the same ambiguity about the source of the deaths if the nightkilled people just "disappeared". But I decided to go ahead with it since it was already in the PMs anyway.

- I was a bit aggressive in my replacing policy (JtP complained about being replaced), but I think it was for the best. If many people have said that this was a good/fun game, it is because the playerlist was REALLY active - one of the most active playerlists of any game I have read.

- I'm probably going for "no majority = no lynch" next game, even though I was really amused by the D1 lynch.

- Also, I'm probably going to request that the scum use a quicktopic to nighttalk in the next game - It helps with replacing scum, and keeps me entertained (I'm kinda sad for not being privy to scum talk).

Players:

- First, I'd like to thank

everyone

for the game. Like I said before, it was a fun game because everyone participated a lot.

- I'm impressed with Joudas. No one was really certain that he was scum until the last day, and he managed to make people tie him to macavenger for a win. Was the "100% mac is scum or 100% mac is scum" slip intentional?

- Yos was also good scum, and stayed under the radar while the town was happily lynching townies. This seems to be on par with his good scum performance.

- I'm also impressed with DBE - this was her first game, and she managed to keep up with the pace of the game. Usually newbies buckle under such pressure. My hint to her is hold tighter to her opinions, she was changing her mind like a leaf on the wind of Guardian/MBF/ABR, when none of then actually knew better.

- Thanks guardian for overcoming his outburst on day 3 and returning to the game. I was surprised that when people started saying "Guardian is town for the outburst" no one mentioned Pirates x Ninjas, where guardian-scum behaved that very same way (including changing signatures).

- Albert can be ennerving, but I like his style. If he dominated the town, that's because no one had the balls to tell him "Stop, Albert, you're not being helpful" - or ignore him altogether.

That said, Albert you crossed the line during the pyro episode. One thing is to be obnoxious to get your point across - another is to actively push a player out of the game and have a mod hunt for replacement (posts 1535-1537). I had a mind to replace you and Pyro together, but I didn't want to punish scum for town's misbehavior. Avoid this in the future.

- Also, congratulations to Albert, Guardian and Mike for putting the town back together on day 4. On day 3 I was pretty sure the game would end there with a perfect game for scum. On day 6 I was genuinely curious about what was going to happen.

This basically means that town gets two lynches before mafia gets to act again. Even if you misvigged, the information from the card flip would probably have helped the town to lynch better next.

I understand what you mean, Guardian... but I don't think you need balls of steel. As loud as any player can be, they still have only one vote, and can usually be ignored in the grand scheme of things.

I agree that ABR's behavior is, to put it kindly, not the nicest. But sometimes you need to work with people you don't like in order to get things done. It's the way life works. I would certainly prefer ABR's crazy playstyle over somebody who just lurks or posts ONE sentence per week.
