Okay. Here's where I'm at after spending the last hour or so reading and thinking things over.
I think eth0s is scum.
Despite the somewhat heated 1v1 I got into with Drew and the frustration I've expressed with some of his logical fallacies, there are elements of his play I can't see coming from scum. I don't think a scum!Drew suddenly decides that
Gamma might have town slipped in his PT right as Gamma gets to L-1. There's not much reason to suddenly hard veto the lynch when Drew could have stayed silent and let the mislynch go through smoothly. It doesn't even seem to be a way to "wash his hands clean" of the mislynch
given he immediately waffles on his read there. In addition to the above, I find Drew's continued insistence, confusion, and demotivation in posts
#621,
#740,
#772, and
#776 on having a "confirmable" neighborizer role to be extremely genuine. It would have to be a planned gambit if scum, and I don't read any fakeness in Drew's tone, nor do I think Drew is the type of player to pull such a play as scum.
Reading both of Drew's linked scum ISOs more in depth, I think Drew has displayed quite a bit more effort in this game than in either of those games. At least, I think he's clearly put in more effort than the lovers game. It's a little closer with the other one, but I think overall, I see more outright town tells in this game. I take issue with some of Drew's logic in this game, but the conviction with which he's pursued them and also reevaluated them has continued to read genuine, and I'm not sure that's in his scum range from what I've seen.
On the other hand, I went and read
Mini 2097, where eth0s was scum. My conclusions from reading that is that this game is certainly not out of eth0s' scum range, and that eth0s has no qualms about hard busing if he believes his scum partner will go down or is genuinely scummy in certain respects. I do think the contexts are different enough in Drew's other scum games that his assertion about his bussing meta is believable. Eth0s was the harder bus, but as I cased and stated before, I do believe it looks more like a bus than Drew's. My reasons for town reading eth0s have varied from the way he handled my slot on replace in and some of his frustration with my earlier pushes of him. However, after reading that game I really don't think the former is out of his scum range and I don't think the latter is a very good reason to town read a generally emotional player like eth0s. And overall, I think he makes more sense as a busser, given we know that scum bussed.
Lastly—and perhaps most damning—I'm pretty sure mechanically Drew
cannot
be scum. For starters, I checked the previous iterations of this game: Penguin Mafia Redux and Penguin Mafia. Both setups designed by our lovely mod.
This was the setup for the first game:
This was the setup for the second game:
In both games there are extremely simple roles. The second has a little more complexity, but there is only one role with more than one modifier in total, and the rest of the setup is pretty simple to compensate. Penguin seems to prefer simpler setups, which makes me think a one-shot multitasker who is also a scum neighborizer is unlikely to be found in this setup.
But that's not all, I made a mistake in saying a one-shot multitasker could even be a possibility. Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure the hypothesized scum!Drew role is completely impossible. To break things down, Drew neighborized on N1, there was also a kill N1. He chose not to neighborize N2, where there was a no kill. He failed to neighborize Robbnva N3, because Robbnva was killed. He then successfully neighborized Amrun N4, where there was a no kill. Obviously, he has to be multitasking for N1 to be legal. He also has to be at least two-shot or whatever. But, the important part is N3, where he failed to neighborize Robbnva. Unless Drew is pulling some insane WIFOM scum plays, which no offense, I think is a bit out of his range, he cannot be scum.
Why?
Because the implication of him failing to neighborize Robbnva is that Drew is
not
multi-tasking. With pressure already on Drew to re-confirm his role after he thought he was already confirmed, there's little reason for a hypothetical multitasking Drew to not just neighborize someone other than Robbnva, after all, if he's scum he would know that Robbnva is dying. The only reason to claim his neighborization failed is if he's not multi-tasking.
The other possibility I mistakenly put forth earlier is that Drew is a one shot multitasker, but uh... That's impossible from I've gathered?
I visited the wiki to confirm:
X-Shot is a
role modifier
that restricts the number of times that a power role can be used for the duration of the game.
Note that despite [multitasking] being a
modifier
associated with scum...
Both x-shot and multitasking are role
modifiers
, meaning they affect the role itself, not each other. There cannot be an x-shot multitasking role where the x-shot affects the multitasking, the x-shot only applies to the role itself. Likewise, the role would just be multitasking. There can be no limit on multitasking, as modifiers do not modify each other, but the role. As such, Drew is basically mechanically confirmed town.
Which, from my perspective, makes eth0s scum 100%. If you're not me, then that puts scum between me and eth0s 100%. Correct me if I'm wrong about any of the above information, but I'm like 99% that's how roles work. Everything in the wiki seems to support that conclusion.
So:
VOTE: eth0s
I am very sorry if this is somehow the incorrect conclusion, but this is where I stay.
Amrun, I think you should vote with me. If you have any doubts about my play, I'd like to talk you through them and show you that I'm town. If your issues are with Pyrrha, I might be less helpful but I can still try.
I feel pretty strongly that I'm finally correct here, and I don't want to lose, so I'll do whatever it takes. Let me know. We only have ~3 days left on the deadline but I'm on break so I have the time to hang around and talk.
Otherwise, vote eth0s.
