And just like that, another born and raised American was gone. The ones who remained stared at the body, clearly in some kind of emotional shock. They didn't notice when a small group of men and women pulled a small cardboard box from behind a nearby tree. They gently pried the box open and walked over to the flag pole. Lowering the American Flag slowly, they stopped when it was at half mast. Silently, they watched it flutter poignantly for a few seconds before they continued it along its descent. They deftly removed it and tied their own flag in its stead. The red flag of communism Rose like a phoenix. Their gentle task done, the group turned to the surviving populace and explained that they were now a part of something bigger than themselves. Everything they owned, knew, and were belonged to a burgeoning State, to be distributed for the benefit of all. Their new administrators would of course require more than the others to ease the stress accrued ensuring everyone else was equal, of course; but otherwise they were all comrades now. A new future was being shaped in the small town . . .
