I've seen the movie and some of the episodes.
I agree that this doesn't seem particularly relevant, but for precisely that reason I don't see the harm in it. The fact that EmpTyger implies he's going somewhere with it piques my interest, and I'm frankly suspicious of Armlx for not having his interest piqued.I think it's pretty clear that TSS's awesomeness did alter the roles each of us recieved, and thus he's obviously pro-town. -- Save The Dragons-

(shrug) I was thinking that it could be useful because it's something that scum have reason to try to lie about (if they pretend to not know anything about the flavor, it might make their eventual fake role claim more beliavable; scum often pretend to know less then they really do), but something that it's really easy for them to trip themselves up with if they slip and show they have more information then they claimed, especally if they make the false statement "I never saw the show" early on day 1; also, if a scum tries to claim early on that he dosn't know anything about the flavor of the show, then he can't later try to use the flavor of someone's role to get them lynched. And I can't imagine it's something a good guy would lie about, so it seemed like a good scum trap.
However, I can see your point too, armix.I want us to win just for Yos' inevitable rant alone. -CrashTextDummie-

True. You have a point Yosarian. I just saw it as info that would never help the town and therefore I found a way it would help the mafia (as any info that doesnt help the town does).
Note: Long story with very little relevance ahead. If you don't care skip to the next post.
The wary about stupid piddly plans like this comes from an old theme game I played in on another site. The mafia Godfather apparently had a list of all the possible role names and on Day 1 prompted a plan to have us all claim a certain letter of our name since the names we saw dead were rather generic and we all assumed there would be only a few possible role names. So the mafia godfather sets himself up as backup doc, gets us to lynch the real doc Day 1, etc. It ended up letting the town kill 2-3 mafia, but the point of the game for the mafia was to get an item from a person rather then normal win. Despite the fact the guy is kill immune they could skip their night kill to take it from him and therefore won. And that is why I never trust Puzzle (he was the godfather who pulled off the plan)
On to the next post...Away Wednesday the 24th through the 31st-

Well, since I'm here, I'd like to add some information, but I unfortunately don't have any. Noone is giving off any strong tells, and It'd be dumb to lurker vote for the next few days (It being thanksgiving in the states and all).
Anyone wants to post some relevant information that hasn't done so yet, it would be great.-

Still waiting for Neo and Nanook to claim familiarity.
armlx:
Your anecdote about Puzzle seems awfully farfetched to justify your objection in this game. Perhaps as an argument against a roleclaim, but against merely stating familiarity with background knowledge? Especially since some- including *you* in [33]- had already freely volunteered this information well before I proposed in [38] the idea that everybody do so. (And as for the worry: compare it to a mafia targeting the most experienced players.)
Finally, the fact that you interpreted Fuldu’s question of me as directed at you seems very odd- like you have a guilty conscience.
Unvote: Thok, vote: armlx.-

Assuming you meant "familiarity" as familiarness (lol made up word) with Firefly, no i have absolutly no idea what the possible roles are in this game. The two links the host gave me doesn't help me except that there are the good guys and the bad guys in the game (duh).EmpTyger wrote:Still waiting for Neo and Nanook to claim familiarity.-

There are claims that are good for the town, and claims that are good for scum.armlx wrote:Emp: The thing is an organized claim != random info thrown out. On the Fuldu thing we both put out the same info and there was no reference so....
Claims that are good for scum are any claims, or even speculation, that makes it easier for them to make fake roleclaims and have them be believeable.
Claims that are good for the town are claims that let them get any kind of insight into which players are scum and which players aren't. The town starts at a disadvantage, that being, they don't have a list of the players they have to kill to win.
The scum DO have such a list. In fact, it's posted at the beginning of nearly every game. While they can happily stroll through the game putting x's through the names they don't like, we have to first add question marks, then underline, then circle, and then, finally, we get to draw x's and hope we don't make an oops.
Familiarity with source material is a claim that helps the town. Why?
Because scum can't win when they go to make roleclaims, regardless of how they answer.
If they claim to have little knowledge outside of that provided by the mod, they'll have to back up everything they say with solid evidence (note: this is a good thing) whereas if they claim to be an expert on the show, people will be wary of them simply because they've claimed to be educated, and educated scum players are dangerous ones. They'll be even more carefully scrutinized.
But how do we know who we should scrutinize, if we don't yet know who scum are?
The answer is everyone. An early claim that makes the town reasonably suspicious is a good claim for the town.
