Like, for instance, it's mechanically abusive towards a player to do the following:
Let them enter a dream, where they have viewership access.
Let other players decide they have to go a dream deeper, causing them to LOSE viewership access to the posts in that previous dream that they should rightfully have access to.
Does that make sense? I should, rightfully, be able to at least view all the posts up until I got put in the deeper dream. However, the only way to do this in current Mafia is to make WAY TOO MANY THREADS, A TON OF THREADS, DAMN.
B-sides, the game is far less interesting for people who weren't in the dream, which is ideally where scum want to be. In a perfect scum game, scum don't even play most the game.-

My scum clean sweeps I fucking play and control this shit
4AM math good nightScumBlade's eloquent performance left me utterly disoriented, debased, depraved and sent me spiraling into a horrific murky abyss with emotional turmoil and immense despair as my only companions until slowly I suffocate in my own gloom, surrounded by failure. I will never recover. -- Zachstralkita about Mini 1841

the whole game i kept thinking that it would be boring and frustrating to be town in McMenno's position, but that it was optimal to have town there.
and thank you, Varsoon. your were on-base a lot more than i was.-

Don't get me wrong, investigative-type roles can be really neat and pack a lot of cool rhetoric and sleuthing, but cop's just too strong of a mechanical role that, most of the time, the rhetoric of the game is secondary to the cop's mechanical prowess and the game becomes less of the mafia I like (rhetorical) and more of a mechanics-focused 'game'.-

Normally I also share that philosophy, but I believed that without it, town could easily get lost here. I actually love variations on cops (like I put a PT cop in my large normal, where he finds out if anyonr has access to any PT. Of course there were masons and a neighborizer...)-

I'm interested in the Psychonauts game for both the flavor and the mechanic. Psychonauts is great and the subconscious mechanic is a perfect fit.
Inception required the multiple levels to the Dreams for it to fit flavor, whereas with Psychonauts there's just one subconscious to keep track of. Maybe have everyone always stay together so you don't get the problem Varsoon brought up, where scum have the incentive to not play."I still cant believe Leonshade just talked his way out of getting lynched by posting Lion King gifs"

I'm also of the "fuck cops" mentality, a game that can be solved purely by mechanics is boring. It's much better to have investigative roles that leave some ambiguity, so that day play still has meaning. It's easier to talk your way out of a tracker result than a cop check."I still cant believe Leonshade just talked his way out of getting lynched by posting Lion King gifs"

ROTFLMGO.In post 399, Not Chara wrote:i was wrong on all of Mathblade, Hiraki, and gerry. stellar play, Chara.
FWIW, when you're Town in a game with me, all you need to do is to determine MY alignment. If I'm Town, just sheep me
P.S. I'd be disappointed if you failed to read ME though.

I second that. gerry played it REALLY well.In post 402, Infinity 324 wrote:Gj gerry, you fooled all of us. Still think the setup was very townsided, if scum was townread that widely in a normal game there's no way town could've won.

Stop belittling yourself. YOU made the connection between Hiraki & Math obvious. YOU lynched gerry over Infinity. You may have had bad reads at first, but you did work your way out of them rather than just pushing your reads regardless. In post 404, Not Chara wrote:like, all of my reads were wrong and i was one of the unviersal townreads. i have to reevaluate for later games. basically, i can't meta math as town just for being disagreeable, i should have realized Hiraki's apology over his mistake was too much and seemed to be damage control, and i shouldn't have let gerry coast just because of an early townread.
that we won besides that does indicate how townsided it was. possibly. though i know other people had better reads than i did. i thought it wasn't but just a small grouping of town completely destroyed it. the only kill scum got off was on someone who no one actually trusted, and was only alive due to their claim.

Be sure to notify me (and preferably pre-in me already). ThanksIn post 412, MathBlade wrote:I may mod a hardcore (flipless) VT Heaven game here soon actually. Back to roots I think would be good for MS and would rope in new people.

In post 424, gerryoat wrote:this was fun but like impossible to win, i think i was townread well though. i wish we had stronger abilities, really. thanks for hosting, scout and dunn! if there is another that's more balanced, i'd definitely join!
IMHO, things that matter (in order):
1- Having fun (check)
2- Your own play (check)
3- The game outcome (not check)
The game outcome is not ONLY reliant on the setup, but on everyone else's play. That means you can play the best game of your life and still lose because either the setup was anti-"you faction", someone on your faction made a mistake, or someone on the opposing side(s) played it too well.

Who was the Employer again? I mean, THAT ROLE was a 100% 1--shot COP in Town hands. Maybe BTD's role should've also been limited shots.
Also, don't talk about balance when afflictions are randomized. Like, if BTD's and Chara's roles both went to scum, that would have been a major boost for them. Infinity's role with scum is awesome too. Mine even.. if I didn't fully claim.
If you're worried about the balance, you may add 3 more afflictions and up the scum team to 4 members.
