We'll bring the hoe along and see what we can find.

No major energy sink on today's list, so we'll see how much time things spend and go from there - either chopping down trees or fishing, depending.

Playthrough to start shortly!

Geodes: cracked. We got four new minerals to add to Gunther's collection; no new rewards. Also got about 2000G or so worth of minerals to sell.
Socializing: we made a pretty decent stab at it. Didn't get up to Robin and her household, or Linus, or Sandy (obviously), but talked with everyone else. Also gave a Tigerseye to Sam, who loved it.
Preserve Jars: we're now up to eight total. I arbitrarily added eggplant (what we had on hand after harvesting) to the five new ones.
Digging for treasure: not much here. Only items we found were on the beach - some stone and one anchor. Sold the anchor for 100G.

Also visited the traveling merchant. No blueberries today, but they did have a Sandfish for sale for 800G. This was the last item needed for the Specialty Fish bundle, so I snagged it up and turned it in. Completing that bundle got us five

Dish o' the Sea

, which is a +3 fishing food. (Great for when we've got something big and nasty to catch.)

Spent at least a little time chopping down trees to make up some of the wood we spent on the preserve jars.

Wipeout

As we left Jodi's house (having just talked with Vincent), we noticed Sam skateboarding past at high speed - right on Emily's vegetable planters! Mayor Lewis also happened to notice, and he chewed Sam out pretty thoroughly.

We tried to stick up for Sam, arguing that

there wasn't anywhere in Pelican Town to skateboard in.

Lewis looked pretty peeved at us, but ultimately apologized to Sam - although he still cautioned Sam to watch out in the future.

Sam didn't seem to be too depressed - or properly chastised - afterwards. Might have to keep an eye on him ...

One last detail: I deployed the three remaining crab pots out in the river near Joja Mart. They've been deployed with bait and can be harvested at any time.

Lewis's "Shorts"

As we were visiting Marnie at the ranch, we noticed a glint of purple under her bedroom door. We snuck inside and sure enough, Lewis's ... shorts, yes ... were sitting on the floor. We grabbed them and made a hasty delivery to Lewis, who was just outside by the river. He professed innocence as to how they found their way into Marnie's bedroom ... not very convincingly, at that. He paid us for both the slime turn-in *and* the shorts - 750G for the latter.

A surprise guest ...

Another mysterious knocking at the door early on. This time, our surprise guest was ... Gunther, of all people!

He stopped by to thank us for all the work we've done in supplying the museum with donations - and to express proper amazement that it's just us doing the work! The museum has recently received the "Golden Shovel" award for its recent contributions, and the credit is all ours.

As Gunther was ready to leave, he stopped - and withdrew a key from his pocket. According to him, this key has been locked in a vault for at least a hundred years. It's rusty, but a piece of art nonetheless - and he wants us to have it.

Let's explore and try to find what it opens!

We remember, some time ago, Vincent and Jas playing by a locked grate in the southern part of Cindersap Forest. One of them mentioned that Gunther had the key to the grate.

The Sewers

With the

Rusty Key

in hand, we're able to unlock the grate leading to the sewers of Pelican Town.

Green fog fills the air; fetid, green water fills the channel. Are there things moving in there ...?

(It looks like we could fish here...)

The sewers are laid out pretty simply. Three exits in total - one to the grate in Cindersap, one to the access panel downtown (which we also can unlock with the Rusty Key), and one passage off to the side.

This passage is blocked by a mysterious force; we cannot enter it.

To the other side, we find a black, shadowy figure. We strike up a conversation.

He introduces himself as

Krobus

, a merchant of "rare and exotic goods." His people have waged war with the dwarves for a thousand years - but peace has recently broken out. Despite that, there's still plenty of resentment on both sides.

Krobus is a new NPC. He

is

eligible to receive gifts. He does not currently appear to be single.

He offers us a look at his wares. He notes that at least some of his inventory varies on a daily basis, and most of it is limited stock.

Fishing: mixed results.
Most of what we caught was algae, along with a selection of Carp - which do not sell for much.
We did, however, catch a

Mutant Carp

amongst the regular carps. This one put up a much bigger fight than its non-mutant siblings, and upon catching it we were informed that we caught one of the

legendary fish

. This carp was kept; the rest were sold.

Void Egg: successfully purchased!

Deluxe Coop: successfully purchased! Between this and the Void Egg, we are now low on both cash and wood; we're down to 3600G and something like 25 wood. (We also spent some stone, but still have 400+ of that.) Robin will start work on the coop upgrade tomorrow; the work won't impact the coop, but Robin's shop will be closed until it's finished.

Given the prevalence towards low-value fish, I opted not to spend any energy boosting items. When we ran out of energy, I went to Cindersap forest and harvested blackberries, as it's currently blackberry season. We now have something like 63 blackberries.

The order board has two options, of which we can only pick one:

I don't really have any ideas except maybe try to plant 100 eggplants. Do we have even remotely close to the amount of money it will take?

Eggplants are renewable, so the 19 that are already planted will continue to produce eggplants every few days for the rest of the season. So it won't be as expensive as it initially sounds.

Plus they are surprisingly cheap; they only cost 20G each. So in theory we *could* buy and plant enough to get up to 100 eggplants going simultaneously.

That would probably have a really bad impact on our time and energy spent watering, though, unless we took drastic steps to mitigate (like an army of sprinklers or something).
