Hmm, I must say I am leaning more towards Occum. Both his attitude and his avatar are perfect for dictatorship...

Let's be honest, no one has. The first two pages have been tantamount to a typical randomvote/jokevote phase.

And on that note,

OK, let's have a dictatorthon then, solving various challenges and puzzles dictators might be confronted with.

Ah, Occam's brilliance continues to glow. And though I do prefer my dictator's ignorant and being pulled by the strings of his/her people, I might make an acception. I would certainly vote for you if I remembered how to make bold font.

So in the meantime, I do like the idea of a Dictatorthon. Hum, I would not mind hosting it myself if Occam and any others would like to participate...

Pushing to get elected on Day 1...

- when no one has much information on anyone
- when mafia gets a big opportunity as dictator to get rid of some good town players early with minimal suspicion, whereas town as dictator just has a small chance at hitting scum.
- when the chance of an overthrow is very very low

...is pretty damned scummy.

I hate to say it, but this first choice at picking a dictator is a heck of a lot more important than everyone seems to be giving it credit for.

How about a cycling dictator system? Rotate dictators for days 1-3, if the dictator doesn't abdicate on mornings two and three, we have a good chance of a successful overthrow with that many players still alive, and on day 3, we'll be able to make a better decision on whether or not we want whoever is dictator at that point to keep the position.

Also I disagree that pushing to get elected is scummy. It's damn near impossible to be proven town on day one in a day start game - it pretty much always takes until at least day two - so it has to be SOMEONE for the game to start.

Hi, I'm Moratorium. You may remember me from such posts as Post 36, "Me so Crazay!"
Moratorium wrote: - when the chance of an overthrow is very very low
Misunderstanding of the rules on my part. I read it as meaning that on Day 1, the odds are 10%, Day 2 the odds are 25%, etc. But...
The Rules wrote: Each day's first attempt to overthrow has a 10% base chance of success, 2nd attempt 25%, 3rd attempt 40%, 4th attempt 55%, etc. This means the 7th attempt and any attempts therafter has 100% chance of success.
...actually, the early days have the highest chance of overthrow because that's when the most players are still around to boost the chance of success.

A rotating dictator system might mitigate the risk of electing scum to the dictator position, so I support that idea.

I am not opposed to the rotating the list either. It seems like the most fair way to go about this, and as Mora pointed out, the chances of overthrow are higher day 1.

For now, I am keeping my elect on rolfcopter, until I have a reason not to. (i.e. we come up with a good strategy or plan to elect the dictators, like the rotating one)

I concur with OP. And Occam's behavior is looking scummier, I don't like it when someone campaigns so hard it looks like a grab for power.

Are you serious? You think I'm campaigning too hard to be DICTATOR!?!?!

Plus, you agree with OP's post - and his post is a post that says he agrees with my post - so you're thereby agreeing with an idea you say is coming from a scummy player. How's that work?

I don't think the idea of rotating dictators is scummy, I think your behavior prior to the suggestion is worrysome and enough not to make me want to vote for you.

My first act as dictator would have been (or will be if I'm elected) to chop off monkey's head.

Elect me as dictator and I'll abdicate when you request, and kill who you request.

I'll still let my opinions count, but I'll take yours into consideration.

Gentlemen, I do support the idea of rotation, though I do not support electing on a relatively random basis. However fun it may be, we still have our dignity, sirs!

It is for this reasoning that I re-mention the Dictatorthon. Its nature would be to present a series of challenges or questions. These challenges are not necisarily winable or losable, but they would be meant to expose our true inner thoughts and commentaries about dictating a group of people. Then based on what everyone has seen and read of the people, they can make a more informed descision on who they vote for.

It would then be through the Dictatorthon that we choose our dictators, but use the rotation system to determine how long each Dictator is to stay and when and how they leave. And this, friends, is the method of choosing Dictators I propose!

What do you think, fellows? Yay, or nay? Amendments? Comments? Questions?Concerns?

P.S. - Um, I apologize for the n00bn355 of this question, but how might one make font bold, again?

I apologize yet again; I meant to say "Ladies and Gentlemen," at the begining of the above posting I previously made. Though I do not normally disambiguate (I certainly hope that is a word...) genders in my writings, when I happen to be dealing with negotiations, I most normally have to deal with those between people of the male gender. Of course, you ladies are to take no offense, as it only means that you are able to make negotiations amongst yourselves and do not need the help of someone like me, unlike the ruthless masculine race who go forth searching for quarrels! How barbaric!

...anyway...
