The night was a double-edged sword for the town. First the good news. Smaug(jeep) was found dead seemingly hit by a lightening bolt. Thankfully this was not soon enough to stop him from burning Bert(NanookTheWolf) to a crisp. As for the bad news. Nori(Phoebus) was found with his neck snapped. Also our beloved Elrond(KingEnigma) was found with a scimitar through his gut.

Anyone want to talk about our four kills? Neck snapped sounds like trolls, and the only people I can think of to kill with scimitars are goblins. Lightning bolt? Only a wizard comes to mind, but Gandalf would surely not be evil, and why would a vig kill night 1?

Well, four killing groups at any rate. The thing is that the trolls didn't go about snapping necks -- their killing methods all had something to do with cooking and eating. On the other hand, Gollum's more a neck-snapper. But we know there are trolls out there, and the scimitars do seem more like goblin kills.

Lightning doesn't seem to fit with anyone other than Gandalf, who is well-known for pyrotechnics. But Gandalf evil? Killing jeep night one is

not

something I'd expect a vig to do -- even in a game like this with an expectation of multiple killing groups, were he scum, we'd want him alive to track down the scum groups he isn't in. Whoever killed jeep was scum, from the circumstances.

4 deaths - ack... not so good.... however we do get lots of info. 2 baddies down is good.

I agree that Gollum is probably the neck-snapper (I saw him more of a biter and scratcher myself)- although I may be getting confused but don't the trolls in The Hobbit talk of snapping Bilbo's neck at one point. *makes a note to check*
There were 3 trolls - so that would fit with a nice size scum group.

I also agree that Gandalf is the most likely candidate for the lightning... he dispatches Wargs in this manner in LOTR, if memory serves. I would say that Gandalf is probably a vigi of some desciption - or maybe a doc with a percentage kill rate (The Hobbit always played Gandalf as more of an oddball and not very helpful all the time - from what we know of him in LOTR he could have done a lot more to save the dwarfs through various encounters than he did IMHO).

It's Beorn, and he's likely to be in here. Could be a neck-snapping vig too.

To give a SK a chance it's possible that Gandalf is one, we should not forget that. Elfish magic is another possibility for lightning, but not likely.
