The Republicans' Obama Agenda survey

Post Post #0 (ISO) » Sat May 09, 2009 1:08 pm

Post by Trojan Horse »

For those of you that don't know, I am a registered Republican.

Yep, that's right. I'm a member of a terrorist organization. So sue me.

Anyway, I know you guys like finding new reasons to make fun of us "Repugs". So here's some new material for you. I just received a letter from the Republican National Committee, asking me to take a survey. Do I agree with certain elements of Obama's agenda, or not? (Of course, the survey was accompanied by a request for donations.) As you'll see, some of the questions on the survey are pretty ridiculous.

Here they are. On each question, the possible answers are "yes", "no", and "no opinion". Apologies for the length of this post.

1. Do you agree with Barack Obama's budget plan that will lead to a $23.1 trillion deficit over the next ten years?

Uh, where'd that number come from? I have yet to see an estimate that we will have a $2 trillion deficit in any given year.

2. Do you believe the federal government has gone too far in bailing out failing banks, insurance companies and the auto industry?

3. Do you support amnesty for illegal immigrants?

No, and neither do most Democrats. So that issue is a wash.

4. Should English be the official language of the United States?

Kinda already is; no real need to make it official.

5. Are you in favor of granting retroactive Social Security eligibility to illegal immigrants who gain U.S. citizenship through an amnesty program?

No, and neither are most Democrats.

6. Are you in favor of the expanded welfare benefits and unlimited eligibility (no time, education, or work requirements) that Democrats in Congress are pushing to pass?

No time, education, or work requirements? Never heard that one before.

7. Do you believe that Barack Obama's nominees for federal courts should be immediately and unquestionably approved for their lifetime appointments by the U.S. Senate?

Uh, I don't think even the Democrats want them "immediately and unquestionably approved". Approved, sure, but after a normal amount of scrutiny.

8. Do you believe that the best way to increase the quality and effectiveness of public education in the U.S. is to rapidly expand federal funding while eliminating performance standards and accountability?

9. Do you support the creation of a national health insurance plan that would be administered by bureaucrats in Washington, D.C.?

10. Do you believe that the quality and availability of healthcare will increase if the federal government dictates pricing to doctors and hospitals?

Uh, I know some Democrats want single-payer healthcare, but where do price controls come into the picture?

11. Are you confident that new medicines and medical treatments will continue to be developed if the federal government controls prescription drug prices and sets profit margins for research and pharmaceutical companies?

Uh... YES, new medicines will still be developed!!! It's one thing to be wary of single-payer healthcare, but it certainly won't shut down all medical research. That's dumb.

12. Are you in favor of creating a government-funded "Citizen Volunteer Corps" that would pay young people to do work now done by churches and charities, earning Corps Members the same pay and benefits given to military veterans?

13. Are you in favor of reinstituting the military draft, as Democrats in Congress have proposed?

I don't care if the percentage of Democrats in Congress rises to 100%; the draft is NOT coming back.

14. Do you believe that the federal government should allow the unionization of Department of Homeland Security employees who serve in positions critical to the safety and security of our nation?

15. Do you support Democrats' drive to eliminate workers' right to a private ballot when considering unionization of their place of employment?

Uh... under the Democrats' proposal, can't the workers still have a private ballot if they so desire?

So anyway, is there any way I can get out of getting these mailings, aside from re-registering as an independent? :?

Best of luck getting control of your party back. Our country really needs a sane second (or third or fourth) party.

Actually, even that won't get you off the mailings. Malyss's father was a Republican; he passed away several years ago, and those same mailings STILL come to the house adressed to him.

Once any group that wants donations has your address in their mailing lists, expect mailings to continue to come from them for the rest of time.

FYI for everyone, I'm a strong supporter of illegal immigrant rights and amnesty privileges.

Our country really needs a political system where people vote by issue and not party line. Though I'd settle for an option other than "write in vote" at the polls.

I read a comment on a page once..
Again, we have a President who thinks he's the President of the World. Obviously he's not the Prez of the USA because he willfully refuses to provide us with all the proper documentation of his birth and citizenship, which only exacerbates that claim that he is an illegal alien and a usurper of the office of President.

Given that we have a communist (not socialist) Congress, being run by illegal immigrant and environmental terrorist special-interest groups, it is becoming more apparent that We the People must ask our own military to step in and arrest the entire Democrat faction of Congress along with arresting the President (and his cabinet) of the United States for committing treason and defrauding the American people as to his standing to be President because of violations of his oath of office to uphold, defend and support the US Constitution, which would be perjury, and ultimately treason (which would also automatically invoke impeachment against him)
This is real. I found this on a Republican site called the Loft and this was a comment(I'm working on a speech for school). I couldn't tell if he was being sarcastic or not...

@Troj:Invest in a shredder?

@Mirth:That's kind of impractical. Unless you mean vote for politicians by issue. In that case, that's called being an independent. = )

Why is caring about issues instead of what party the politician comes from impractical? And I refuse to register as an independent. I don't need the independent party sending me junk mail. (This is why I just leave the party affiliation box blank.)

Heh @ IH. I've considered buying one, but for other reasons; it's so pleasurable to listen to the sound of credit card offers (and other junk mail) being shredded to pieces. Certainly more fun than just cutting them with the scissors.

But shredding political mailers like this... doubt it would be as fun.

Oh, and ROFL at Mirth. I wonder what the platform of the Independent Party would be?

I wasn't joking: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Independent_Party

It's not a nationwide party, but yeah.

I personally burn mine, but I also live in the middle of nowhere, and have that luxury.

Have you tried taking a dump in the envelope and returning it to them?

Also just because you are part of a party (which I'm not by the way, I know might as well be) doesn't mean you have to vote party line or not on the issues.

I actually think most people in the United States vote the issues. That is, where you stand on a number of key issues is the best predictor of both who you will vote for, and for which political party you will identify yourself with.

I get that kind of e-mail from my MP all the time, except a) it usually only has one or two questions; b) I am not a member of his party, he just sends me that crap because he represents me nationally; and c) not only that, but I'm pretty sure he sends it as "official House mailings" meaning that he doesn't pay for them, taxes do.

Nope. If you look at national surveys (e.g. the ANES at http://www.electionstudies.org/), better predictors include parent's affiliation, income, education and church attendance. Knowing someone is pro-choice tells you less about what party they vote for than if they regularly attend church or make over $150,000.
