Wow, really? Are smilies that big of a deal? Personally I don't see any way that the use of smilies could be seen as either town or mafia, and being friendly towards a person that just voted me isn't something I can really see as a scumtell, either. God forbid we actually try and havefunduring this game, apparently. I suppose I'll play it safe and go into Vulcan-mode for the remainder of the day.
While my initial post might (understandably) seem a bit odd to the more experienced players, I stand by it. Not necessarily for the content, but for starting the discussion that was so blatantly absent before my posting. I knew there would be a risk that I'd be under suspicion simply by making the first post of substance, and I bear the brunt of that suspicion now without too much complaint. I could have played it safe and lurked, or done single-line posts like david-villa has done. However, I felt that getting a discussion going, even if it does turn around on me would be pro-town any way you slice it.
So no, I don't mind suspicion based on the relatively weird, WIFOM-y original post I made. But c'mon guys, you're wasting time sleuthing aboutsmilies? I don't see how that can help us at all, to be honest. Think about it.-

Anyone can post a smiley. Since we don't have the advantage of facial expressions or verbal emphasis, it makes it virtually impossible to figure the true meaning (town being nice vs. scum disguise)
FoSManho.
I want to see what information i can gather from his response..ShowSome would say he's a killer.
I prefer to think of it as natural selection.

Chill, yernab. Why so desperate? You aren't the one under the most suspicion here, yet you are getting so desperately defensive. Are you trying to hide something?
The smilies aren't exactly a tell, but it just gives me some sort of feeling. But that's not the main reason I'm voting for you. In your post, you tried to shift everyone's attention to how ridiculous my "smiley" argument is (even though it was just a one-liner in my post in the previous page), which also means you're trying to shift everyone's attentionawayfrom my main points.
P.S. What's a Vulcan Mode?I only play one game at a time, until further notice.-

@crazypianist: We're not arguing about smileys. I just put it in my argument as a passing remark, but yernab's the one making a big deal out of it. That's why I believe he's scum trying to draw attention away from my main points and concentrating on the smiley point.I only play one game at a time, until further notice.-

@Meji-Manho didn't do anything suspicious, but that for me makes me suspicious. everyone says something to set someone else off at some point and i was just trying to see what reaction he'd have to it. Unfortunately, a brush-off isn't much of a tell one way or the other
@Zach- I'm in agreement with manho on this one. A list is more likely to put people on the defensive as well as allowing the mafia to see exactly where people have drawn the lines in their heads about other players. This hurts the town more than the scum, since town gets defensive and scum sees just who they can target to cause the most chaos and/or avoid suspicionShowSome would say he's a killer.
I prefer to think of it as natural selection.

Town gets defensive and scum does not? We draw the lines in our heads anyway when we take positions, mafia can already see more than we can. If we don't explicitly state who we find suspicious, mafia benefits, not town.WrathofShadows wrote:

Afterall, scum have to fake their suspicions do they not?
(I'm not trying to say you should make a complete list of where every player stands in your head, but a top 2-3 works pretty good.)-

I wasn't saying the scum doesn't go on defense, my point was that a list puts more information out on the town than on the scum. Gives em a free shot if things match up enough between different people.Zachrulez wrote:Town gets defensive and scum does not?
Suppose there are a couple people that others seem suspicious about. The mafia may use that to their advantage to remove the competition without ever exposing themself/themselves.
THAT is my problem with using scumlists in the first place.
BTW, Vulcan Mode, from what i can figure, is a complete and utter lack of emotionShowSome would say he's a killer.

@WoS: I disagree. In fact, scum get defensive more commonly due to the fact that scum are more afraid of getting lynched than town. However, now that I've posted this...
And does that mean it's better for me to take my own notes and create my own scumlists but not share them just yet, since there are mafia in the mix? I guess so.
@David: Having never played as scum before, I can't say for sure which one I prefer. However, this current game is already very fun and challenging for me as town. I'm not too sure if scum would be more fun.-

@ash,
sorry i thought i answered that question then i realized it was in that "other Game" lol.
but to me it doesn't really matter wich scum or town. I would prefer i guess a serial killer role that its like a solo win. but we don't to worry about those in the newbie que."I swear tubby is scum in every game I've read, even some of the ones he wasn't in. "~Vi

David - Im not really sure which I prefer, everything is good
Soyasushi - Ive seen very very defensive townies, noone likes being lynched. Also, as town, you should try very hard not to be lynched, after all, you are certain you are not scum, so anyone who isnt you is thus a better lynch (more or less) - that said, the best way to defend yourself really is to find someone who is a better choice. If all your doing is saying 'Im not scum! Smilies are not important!' etc, it doesnt provide a better option. Find who is scum and explain why they are scum
Also, that way if you got lynched anyway, at least you provided hopefully useful insights that after the flip are revealed to be not lies
If you can keep notes on the game, its a cool thing, but Im to lazyThere is no problem so big it cannot be solved by an even bigger explosion
