The Meeting with Sollozzo:

Spoiler:
SOLLOZZO
My business is heroin, I have poppy
fields, laboratories in Narseilles
and Sicily, ready to go into
production. My importing methods
are as safe as these things can be,
about five per cent loss. The risk
is nothing, the profits enormous.

DON CORLEONE
Why do you come to me? Why do I
deserve your generosity?

SOLLOZZO
I need two million dollars in
cash...more important, I need a
friend who has people in high
places; a friend who can guarantee
that if one of my employees be
arrested, they would get only light
sentences. Be my friend.

DON CORLEONE
What percentages for my family?

SOLLOZZO
Thirty per cent. In the first year
your share would be four million
dollars; then it would go up.

DON CORLEONE
And what is the percentage of the
Tattaglia family?

(SOLLOZZO nods toward HAGEN.)

SOLLOZZO
My compliments. I'll take care of
them from my share.

DON CORLEONE
So. I receive 30 per cent just for
finance and legal protection. No
worries about operations, is that
what you tell me?

SOLLOZZO
If you think two million dollars in
cash is just finance, I congratulate
you Don Corleone.

(There is a long silence; in which each person present feels
the tension. The DON is about to give his answer.)

DON CORLEONE
I said I would see you because I've
heard you're a serious man, to be
treated with respect...
(pause)
But I'll say no to you.

(We feel this around the room.)

DON CORLEONE
I'll give you my reasons. I have
many, many friends in Politics.
But they wouldn't be so friendly if
my business was narcotics instead
of gambling. They think gambling
is something like liquor, a harmless
vice...and they think narcotics is
dirty business.

(SOLLOZZO takes a breath.)

DON CORLEONE
No...how a man makes his living is
none of my business. But this
proposition of yours is too risky.
All the people in my family lived
well the last ten years, I won't
risk that out of greed.

SOLLOZZO
Are you worried about security for
your million?

DON CORLEONE
No.

SOLLOZZO
The Tattaglias will guarantee your
investment also.

(This startles SONNY; he blurts out.)

SONNY
The Tattaglia family guarantees our
investment?

(SOLLOZZO hears him first, and then very slowly turns to face
him. Everyone is the room knows that SONNY has stepped out
of line.)

DON CORLEONE
Young people are greedy, and they
have no manners. They speak when
they should listen. But I have a
sentimental weakness for my
children, and I've spoiled them, as
you see. But Signor Sollozzo, my
no is final.

(SOLLOZZO nods, understands that this is the dismissal. He
glances one last time at SONNY. He rises; all the others do
as well. He bows to the DON, shakes his hand, and formally
takes his leave. When the footsteps can no longer be heard:)

(The DON turns to SONNY.)

DON CORLEONE
Santino, never let anyone outside
the family know what you are
thinking. I think your brain is
going soft from all that comedy you
play with that young girl.

(TWO OFFICE WORKERS are carrying an enormous floral display
with the word "THANK YOU" spelled out in flowers.)

DON CORLEONE
What is this nonsense?

HAGEN
It's from Johnny. It was announced
this morning. He's going to play
the lead in the new Woltz Brothers
film.

The Hit on Don Corleone:

Spoiler:
DON CORLEONE by the fruit stand; he is about to move to the
car, when TWO MEN step from the corner. Suddenly, the DON
drops the bag of fruit and darts with startling quickness
toward the parked car.

DON CORLEONE
Fredo, Fredo!

The paper bag has hit the ground, and the fruit begins
rolling along the sidewalk, as we HEAR gunshots.

Five bullets catch the DON in the back; he arches in pain,
and continues toward the car.

The PROPRIETOR of the fruit stand rushes for cover, knocking
over an entire case of fruit.

The TWO GUNMEN move in quickly, anxious to finish him off.

Their feet careful to avoid the rolling fruit. There are
more GUNSHOTS.

FREDDIE is hysterical; he tries to get out of the car;
having difficulty opening the door. He rushes out, a gun
trembling in his hand; his mouth open. He actually drops
the gun.

The gun falls amid the rolling fruit.

The GUNMEN are panicked. They fire once more at the downed
DON CORLEONE. His leg and arm twitch where they are hit;
and pools of blood are beginning to form.

The GUNMEN are obviously in a state of panic and confusion;
they disappear around the corner as quickly as they came.

The PEOPLE about the avenue have all but disappeared:
rather, we catch glimpses of them, poking their heads safely
from around corners, inside doorways and arches, and from
windows. But the street itself is now empty.

FREDDIE is in shock; he looks at his FATHER; now great
puddles of blood have formed, and the DON is lifeless and
face down in them.

FREDDIE falls back on to the curb and sits there, saying
something we cannot understand. He begins to weep profusely.

Andrius' Mafia RuleSet

I: Pre-Game

I.
Confirmations will be done in-thread in this game. After I create the game thread I will send out Role PMs. Please confirm in-thread.
II.
Factions with QuickTopics (QTs) will be able to converse privately in their QT until the Confirmation Phase is over and the game begins. They will have an additional 24 hours to talk after the game officially starts. After that day, they will only have NightTalk.
III.
When 10 of the players confirm, I will start Day One.

II: Day Phase (DP)

I.
Each Day Phase shall last two weeks.
II.
QTs, unless members have DayTalk, cannot talk during the DP.
III.
You may vote for someone using the form
Vote: Andrius. Votes must be bolded or they shall not be counted.
Abbreviating someone's name is acceptable, so long as I can discern who you were voting for without trouble.
IV.
Unvoting is not required, but is much appreciated by me, the moderator.
V.
Once you have reached a simple majority (half of all living players plus one) that person's fate is sealed and they shall be lynched. Unvoting cannot change their fate.
VI.
If half the living players approve a No Lynch (
Vote: No Lynch
), then no player shall be lynched and the game shall enter Night Phase. If deadline is reached and no one has received a simple majority of the votes, no one shall be lynched.
VII.
Once a player is lynched the game enters twilight until I arrive and post a death scene. All players may continue to post until during Twilight.
VIII.
If you have failed to post for over 48 hours, I will send you a prod. Failure to respond to this prod within 48 hours will result in the replacement of that player.
IX.
A deadline extension of 24 hours to the DP may be granted; just ask.

III: Twilight Phase

I.
Twilight Phase is the time between the moment when a simple majority for a lynch is met, and when I post the death scene and lock the thread for Night Phase. All players, including the lynchee, may continue to talk in-thread.
II.
Votes and Unvotes shall not be counted during Twilight.
III.
Once the lynch scene has been posted the thread shall be locked for the Night Phase.

IV: Night Phase (NP)

I.
Night shall last 72 hours (three days).
II.
The mafia faction and any other group with a quicktopic will be able to communicate using their QT.
III.
Any role or faction with night abilities may choose to use them by PM-ing the mod with their choice.
IV.
If no action is received, no action will be taken. All actions received after the deadline has passed will not be acknowledged.

V: Capital Offenses

I.
Do not quote your Role PM or any private communication with the moderator, co-moderator, or backup-moderator (either real or otherwise). Paraphrasing is acceptable.
II.
There is to be no personal communication outside the forum postings (regarding this game) unless your role specifically allows it.
III.
I will use the colors
Black
and
Red
. CSL will use
Purple
if he needs to replace me at any time.
IV.
Do not quote your Role PM. (Again, for emphasis.)
V.
Various Outlawed Shenanigans:
  • Using invisible text, codes, cryptography, etc.
  • Editing your posts (if you have the power to do so)
  • Insulting other players
  • Do not quote any QTs you may have access to
If any of these offenses are committed, I have the right to force-replace you from the game or modkill you. A warning will usually come before replacement or modkilling, depending on the severity of the infraction.

VI: Miscellaneous

I.
Feel free to address me in-thread, but if there is a large egregious mistake please PM me. Small matters like errors in the votecount can be posted in-thread.
II.
I have the final say on any issue.
III.
This is a game. Have fun, and keep the game fun for other people. Modkills will fly from the heavens towards those who make this game un-fun by cheating. :P

VII: Game-Specific Rules

I.
There are no Cults, Survivors, or Jesters in this setup.

The following is a sample Role PM, aligned with the Town. The Corleone Family is the town. If you support (or are) Virgil Sollozzo, then you are part of the "mafia" faction in this game.

Welcome to the Corleone Family, CSL.

You are
Mama Corleone
and are the wife to the Don and Godfather in the Corleone Family- your family.

You have no ears in the family business, and you do not care to know what your family does- as long as they are safe. When Vito, your husband for many years, was shot down in the streets, you were distraught.

You are an
Italian Food Vendor
. Each night you may target a player. That player will receive a traditional Italian dish. It has no effect besides flavor.

Despite your culinary skills, you cannot do much. But you pray to the Holy Father that your children may be spared.

You win when all threats to the Corleone Family are dead.

Please confirm in-thread.

Mod
, I'm going to pick at your ruleset a bit just to make sure I understand everything.
Mod 1 wrote:Failure to respond to this prod will result in the replacement of that player.
Is there a specific time limit for this, or is this subjective/circumstantial?

Also do you have anything in mind for extensions?

You're kidding me.

Mario Puzo's original novel was a best seller. The original film and the sequel both won Best Picture academy awards, along with many other additional awards. The film itself is a cinematic icon. The first and the second film are arguably among the best films ever made. They are absolutely iconic to the organized crime genre as well. If you have any interest at all in American/Italian mafia organizations, then you should really try to check it out!

Go right ahead. :)

Yeah, I'll go ahead and add a deadline for that... 48 hours sounds good.

I'll add something about that too. I have no problem with them, but let's not go overboard. XD

I present:
Wikipedia wrote: Real-life gangsters responded enthusiastically to the film. Salvatore "Sammy the Bull" Gravano, the former Underboss in the Gambino crime family,[26] stated: "I left the movie stunned... I mean I floated out of the theater. Maybe it was fiction, but for me, then, that was our life. It was incredible. I remember talking to a multitude of guys, made guys, who felt exactly the same way."

Thanks. XD

That would probably explain why. I can't remember the last itme I saw/read anything in the crime genre (I'd go back to about gr3 as the last time I read a mystery novel?).

Also, is this some 1980s or some other old-timer novel?

Lastly, asian mafias are so much more fun :P

P-EDIT: WHY AM I GETTING SO MUCH HATE? I DO TOO HAVE A LIFE!

Well, the book was published in, oh, I think '70 or '71. I guess I could double check my facts since I'm on the Internet and all...

It's a fictional novel but it is, as the Mod quoted, a fairly accurate representation of New York crime in the late 30's/early 40's.

The book and the films are both a little mature, but I'd consider them mild by today's standards.

by Andrius
Yeah, the first book/film took place from 1945 to the late fifties. The second film was in the sixties or so. We won't speak of the third one here.

They're mature for their time, but definitely tame compared to some of the stuff today. :igmeou:

This. TOTALLY.
I've not seen the films/novels, but passing on a Mafia game whose theme is what inspired the game of Mafia is a sin.
