You're confusing stages here. At this point there aren't many points to work with, so you have to adjust accordingly.

Also, calling someone scummy, and then NOT voting for that person is a good enough reason to vote.

I have been on MS much less than you and have already seen examples of this not being true, am I skeptical of people who do it? absolutely but it doesn't make them guaranteed scum either.

We're not talking in absolutes here; we're talking about this specific case of Thomith defending Neruz. And I agree with hiphop...it makes little sense that he's defending Neruz here against a legitimate point for this stage in the game.

See, the thing is, we actually have a good reason to suspect Neruz, and your defense of him is both indirectly implicating him as being scum and making you out to be a suspect as well.

Besides, I don't think you or Neruz have really explained why he would call you scummy and then vote someone else because coming up with a seemingly legit case (however small it was) and the trying to mask things under the guise of RVS smells REALLY fishy.

@Thomith, as you never answered this, could you give me at least one way that it helps town to not vote their top suspect (other than pressure, which Neruz's vote was not)?

I'll have to look through Thomith's ISOs in those games later (too lazy now and have to leave in 30 minutes) to see what his scum strategies are and to see if he would blatantly stick his neck out from the popular choice to defend somebody.

To expand a bit, I don't know exactly what Thomith was trying to do by defending Neruz, but the mostly likely explanation IMO is that he was just trying to fake a town reaction and "overcompensated."

As scum i buddy not defend. Just saying.

Also, if you really rely on buddying so extensively, without employing other strategies, you aren't just going to say this kind of information casually.

Because you seem to not get the idea of voting someone who is scummy has a better chance of being scum, then someone who is completely random. Or is that not the purpose of the game? Obviously he is fence sitting waiting for others to pick up the pieces so he can tag along.

You know, I was gonna vote Neruz myself but it was for a different reason than that second RVS vote most people got on him for. I actually really didn't like his "far too seriously for RVS" comment. See, as town it's important to have an understanding that RVS posts are useful for analyzing the psyche of each players' first few posts as well as sparking discussion and helping us build the preliminary connections we'll all make through the duration of the game. RVS isn't a phase, it's more of a link, I'd say, from the beginning of the game to useful content. We don't just chill out in RVS until something magically happens that makes us start taking the game seriously. RVS is that magic, which is why "you're taking RVS too seriously" is a really bad argument.


I can see Thomith being scum, though of course not with Neruz. His opening post reveals a fear of his RVS vote backfiring on him by the way he feels a need to overly justify it but that fear could easily be town not wanting to die early. The comment on his high percentage of games as scum was ballsy but for a fairly good player it could easily be a scum gambit.

The person who I dislike the most, though, is Voidedmafia. Like Thomith, he has the same need to justify his actions during RVS. After attacking Neruz for the same thing in 3 different posts, he agrees with Thomith and Rainbowdash about Thomith and then finally places an overdue vote on Neruz before switching it to Thomith for no reasons besides sheeping other people. Notice when he places both of these votes is at a time when it looks like they could take off. Which leads me to believe that Neruz and Thomith would both be town if Voided flips scum because at that point it would be clear he was attempting to push mislynches off the ground.
