Newbie 167 - Game over

Post Post #0 (ISO) » Tue Dec 06, 2005 3:30 am

Post by Phoebus »

We're here to play mafia. Let's get lynchin'!

If you haven't already, reading The Newbie Guide on the wiki might be helful.

Current status: Awaiting confirms.

Alive: 2/7

mathcam
Passdog

Dead: 5/7

giricredwolf - cop - lynched - day 1
Fritzler - townie - shot - night 1
ViolentJ1427 - mafia - lynched - day 2
Tyfo - townie - shot - night 2
Brian McQueso - mafia - lynched day 3

~~~~~~~~~~~~
One of the following four set-ups is used for this game:
a) 2 mafia, 1 cop, 1 doc, 3 townies
b) 2 mafia, 1 cop, 4 townies
c) 2 mafia, 1 doc, 4 townies
d) 2 mafia, 5 townies
Note: in view of the number of players, we will start in the day phase, although most larger games start with a night. The mafia will be allowed to communicate pre-game, though no role will submit choices until Day 1 is over.
Possible roles:
You are the mafia
. You may only talk with each other during the game's "night," not during the "day." You let me know before the night's deadline who will be your victim. You win the game when all the other players are dead.
You are the cop
. Every "night" before the deadline you send me a PM with a name of your choice, and I will let you know whether that player is mafia or not. You are not allowed to communicate with any of the other players outside the thread. You win the game when the mafia are dead.
You are the doctor
. Every "night" before the deadline you send me a PM with a name of your choice, and that player cannot die if attacked by the mafia that night. You cannot heal yourself. You are not allowed to communicate with any of the other players outside the thread. You win the game when the mafia are dead.
You are a townie
. You are not allowed to communicate with any of the other players outside the thread. You win the game when the mafia are dead
The Rules
:
  • Votes must be in
    bold
    . If you do not bold your vote, it will not be counted.
  • Please be attentive and
    unvote
    , if necessary, before casting a new vote. This is not
    required
    , but I’d appreciate it.
  • Executions will require a simple majority of votes. Once a player has reached the necessary majority, his pleas are useless and any attempts to unvote will be unheeded. You may
    vote: no lynch
    – majority votes of this kind are necessary to end the day without a death.
  • The game is not to be discussed outside of the thread unless your role specifically states that you may do so.
  • Once your death scene has been posted, you’re dead. Stop typing.
  • Don’t edit/delete previously submitted posts
  • Don’t quote any PMs from me.
  • If you have a night choice to make, it is due by the posted deadline. I will not wait for you – if you do not submit a choice to me, tough! No choice will be made.
  • If you anticipate being unavailable for more than a 48-hour period, please post a notice to that effect in the thread.
    Treat this game as a commitment. Be considerate – don’t leave us hanging.
  • Remember, it’s a game. It’s supposed to played. It’s supposed to be
    fun
    . Do your part.
Your happiness is intertwined with your outlook on life.
It's probably his birthday.
How could it be his birthday? The 27th day of the 14th month? I think 1427 is his birth
year
. He's over 500 years old, obviously.
random vote: Mathcam
, for thinking there's 14 months in a year.
If you have a reason to vote then you aren't random voting. Saying its random, when it clearly isn't,
must
be scummy.
Therefore
Vote BrianMcQueso
I (and many other players) use votes that have no suspicion behind them in place of a truly random vote. In my mind "arbitrary" votes and "random" votes are one in the same. Come to think of it, I really should label them as such.
I'm unsure as to whether you actually find me suspicious, are just trying to make me look suspicious, or were just joking around. Either way, it's been noted.
UNFOS: Tyfo, mathcam
Hi, there, Fritzler. How are things? You don't seem to say much. You don't even say that your vote is random... How scummy of you. Why, I even gave reasons for my FOSes, which I just retracted. You know why I retracted them?
VOTE: Fritzler
because he hasn't said anything and is probably hiding that he is Mafia scum!
Just FYI, everyone: I may be a little slow on Saturdays. I work at a theatre that does 3 back-to-back shows (a matinee, a "Sunset Performance", and an evening show). We'll be doing a change over (load in and load out all at once) around Christmas Eve/day after Christmas (Boxing Day for Brits and Brit decendencies). Then we tech for a couple of days, and then we have another 3 show Saturday.... Isn't theatre fun? So, yeah...
Cheers.
I wouldn't worry about the slight lag around the weekends, Giric. A good chunk of the MafiaScum community posts from work, and most decent folk don't go to work on the weekends. Besides, it's not like things move too quickly around here anyway...
My reasoning was just a joke - I do understand the practice of initial arbitrary voting. However it is interesting to note that the majority of people who made their 'random' votes felt no need to truly justify them as such.
The over emphasis on the randomness of your vote could be construed as a scum trying a little too hard.
Very quiet on the mafiascum front. Not a lot of conversation.
Here is an unofficial vote count:
mathcam - 2 (Fritzler, BrianMcQueso)
Fritzler - 1 (giricredwolf)
ViolentJ1427 - 2 (mathcam, Tyfo)
BrianMcQueso - 1 (Passdog)
Not voting ViolentJ1427
To start discussion I'll put forward a hypothesis.
One of Fritzler or BrianMcQueso are scum (if not both).
AND one of mathcam or Tyfo are scum (if not both).
My reasoning for these conclusions is that, in both circumstances, if neither of the voting parties were scum then the mafia could have lynched one of the players by now (2 mafia only four to lynch).
This all assumes people have been online since the start of the game.
What do you all think?
Oh yeah, and considering the above logic (however weak) my vote stands.
If they did that, they would get lynched the day after.
Rules for Finding Mafia
1. The first player to congratulate the doctor is scum or doctor (+20, +10)
2. Watch for WishyWashy voting (+10)
3. Third person on a wagon is likely to be mafia (+15)
4. Fourth person on a wagon is likely to be mafia (+10)
5. Admitting someone is a townie without saying "IF" (+10)
6. Mafia generally have more information than any other player, so the person who picks up on tells/hints easiest is more likely to be mafia (+10%; There are some notable exceptions and I always take experience into consideration).
Well, welcome, ViolentJ1427. I'm glad to hear your machine is better. Now, let's get on with it, shall we?
It seems to me that mathcam, ViolentJ1427, and Fritzler each have 2 votes on them now. Does anyone care to claim? It would seem to me that it would be VERY smart of at least one of you three to do so.
