I think the general process for body of work awards is that those nominated are asked to send in links to any games they played in. If it's a public alt, then they can submit that. I don't know how hydras are considered, however.

Last year we had three nominations for Best Role Claim. Total.* It's also something that's captured by other awards, whether the role claim comes as town or scum. Good role claims still have their place in the awards but more in keeping with the value that they provide to their side. Best Role Claim overvalued one small part of the game. We don't have other awards like this. We don't have, for example, Best Use of a Power Role as an award. But that's arguably just as valuable. The reason we don't break it down into those categories is because that's the sort of thing judges should be considering when they make their paragon, don corleone, best town oscar, best scum oscar award decisions.

I'm sadder to see Funniest claim go as it's something that's fun to go through and check out. But we already have funniest/most enjoyable player, and when it comes down to it, funny role claiming is part of that as well.

*Best IC also only had three nominations, but it serves a valuable and distinct purpose

Are you talking about Best Performance in a Losing Cause? That hasn't been awarded since 2008.

no, but it's the first large one since the new award was put into place, she gave up her home for a week and organized activities, her husband drove to PHOENIX and back to pick up a participant, etc. Deal with it.

goomba, your post I didn't mind. It's a fair enough question. ani's posts, on the other hand.

That has something to do with it? Size doesn't (or shouldn't, at least) matter.

Why shouldn't it matter? Organizing a meet for 18 people is a lot different than doing 3 or 4. The award is the COMMUNITY contributor. And organizing something that is that large and broad based helps our community by connecting members.

The description of the award:

This award is given to the community member who, outside of any official duty and over the past year, best contributed to making Mafiascum into a more cohesive, positive experience for all involved. Judges may consider anything they find relevant for this so long as it was not within the official role of a community member. This includes, but is not limited to, contributions to General Discussion, Mafia Discussion, organizing mafia scum meet-ups, and so forth. This is a "catch all" award.

So if I invite bv310 over for a week and plan events and shit, I get a nomination to? Sweet.

See above.

Let it be known that I have nothing against SS, quadz, the rest of the SoL crew or SoL itself. I just don't think a meet, at this point, should be getting a scummy.

Well, I'm sure the judges will weigh your opinion in accordance with its value.

thanks.

So I know this is 100% apples to oranges with the other nominees, so judges should certainly take that into account, but...

Nominate Town of Always On for Best Town

http://forum.mafiascum.net/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=22869

It was a trouncing. Sure, mafia could and should have played better/more active, but the reads were great in this game.

I'd also say that for Matt's Paragon nom, this game should certainly be taken into account -- despite him being killed N1.

zing!

And yeah, I think obviously the preference is to get someone totally uninvolved to nominate, but for team victories and especially most enjoyable game, there'd basically be no one left to nominate other than the odd observer.

my opinion is the more people in the winner group, the more acceptable to self-nom:

most enjoyable game: almost mandatory that it'll be a self-nom
best town: acceptable
best scum: somewhat iffy, but still okay
manipulator: very frowned upon.

Not to enter on either side of this, but I will say that the judges will need to consider that the reason it was a 4 scum vs. 9 town game is that it was designed so that town would be able to find and lynch more readily than normal.

That said, town played as well as they possibly could in such circumstances, literally lynching correctly every time they could. There was no option for town to do better other than for scum to do better (not to mention the mod) and still do as well. But that was out of their hands.

Both sides of that should probably be weighed.

It's kind of annoying, but to me the most important thing is to make sure that deserving candidates get nominated without generating too much junk.

By the way, take a gander at the nomination list. Anyone who hasn't been seconded (with a None next to the Second), will not be eligible to be considered by the judges.

Also, there are a few categories that could use some more nominations if they're appropriate. Feel free to adjust your standard a bit lower there:

Best IC
Most Memorable Event
Best Role
Contribution to MD/Wiki

All could use a few more nominations. In the case of Most Memorable Event, we only have one that would qualify to win (since the other has not been seconded). Keep in mind that this was an award we added after public outcry.

I appreciate it (and do plan to figure out a way to revive the game in a more playable version), but to be fair, Robobattle's best days by far were in 2011, not 2012.

Exceptional moderator. Tierce is generally on top of her games, very quick to respond to questions and issues that come up in-game, to update games, and to handle replacements. It's a joy to play in her games, really. Examples include Open 403, Mini 1376, and Micro 76... but I dare you to find a game that she hasn't run well.

personally, I'd be fine if games ending in the first week of january were given a grace period so long as their nomination went through and was seconded, making them eligible for either awards (though only considered once). But that hasn't been the policy in the past.
