That's definitely something I would do if I were designing a setup like this. I really have no anchor point to know if Jingle would do something similar.It's always the same. This feels miles different from when Dann was pushing me in Undertale. Of course there are many reasons the situation is different... but one similarity between the two is that he had a compelling reason to scumread me that was not based on my play. Here, he seems to be trying to come up with reasons to scumread my play so that it matches his pre-determined read, whereas in Undertale he admitted that my play made sense coming from town but decided that the mechanical reason outweighed it.It's always the same.
