Located near a shallow cascade whose killing prowess is vastly exaggerated by locals, the town of Innocence Falls was founded so recently that you won't find it on any map - and that's precisely the point. Town founder Rick Dinsmore didn't care for the laws and regulations found in every city the government knows about, so he and a group of close associates built one the government doesn't know about. Now Rick, or Mayor Dinsmore as he's known as now, didn't build the town out of malice or anarchy, but rather merely a distaste for double-digit speed limits and ages of consent. Mayor Dinsmore welcomed anyone who felt oppressed by unnecessary laws, but kept anyone who posed a threat to his community - including, it's rumored, a spy for a national government law enforcement agency - and for this was honored as a legend the whole time he ruled Innocence Falls.

Too bad that only lasted a month. Just this morning, Mayor Dinsmore was found dead in his home with seven bullet holes , and a Mafia-owned revolver on his desk. The local police (except perhaps for a cop or two) are busy figuring out how you fire seven bullets from a revolver, the hospital staff (except perhaps for a doc or two) is giving the fallen mayor's sanity-deprived wife Alicia the utmost attention, and every member of the town's gun enthusiast club (except perhaps for a vig or two) has turned in his gun for inspection, and everyone else in town (except perhaps for a number of citizens, some of whom may have other useful skills) is grieving. Except for the mayor's eight-year-old daughter Allison, who's too concerned with her upcoming ninth birthday party to even notice that daddy's dead. Innocence Falls: not a town known for good parenting.

Oh yeah, and at least one other group isn't sad that the mayor's expired: the Mafia. Reasoning that anyone who doesn't honor the mayor is better off dead regardless, the reigning Lord of Justice decreed that every citizen with a dry cheek must attempt to out the Mafia hidden amongst them via arbitrary lynching. The mayor's daughter is too cute to be subjected to such a cruel fate, but the rest of you monkeys had better lynch right.


Game Policies


Voting:
To vote for a player, type in
bold
the word "Vote:" followed by that player's name. To vote for no lynch, type in
bold
"Vote: No Lynch". Voting annuls your previous votes - if you have the ability to cast multiple votes, you'll need to recast them all each time you change any of your votes. To annul your previous votes without casting a new vote, type in
bold
the word "Unvote". All votes will be annulled any time a player dies.

Deadlines:
If any twenty-four hour period elapses during a Day phase with no players posting, an automatic one-week deadline applies. If that deadline elapses, the game enters the Twilight phase and nobody will be lynched.

All Night phases have automatic ninety-six hour deadlines. If you have a night ability and do not tell me whether you're using it before the deadline, you will not use it.

Twilight:
After a lynching vote is cast or a deadline is passed but before thread is locked, the game is in the Twilight phase. Conversation may continue amongst all players, and votes and daytime abilities will not succeed.

Inactivity:
If any seventy-two hour period elapses in which you don't post in thread, you will be prodded. You then have forty-eight hours to post in thread or you will be replaced. If you foresee that you will be inactive, you may avert this only by posting in thread the nature of your inactivity.

Moderator:
The mod is god. Unlike the infallible gods of millenia past, however, the mod will listen to prayers for corrected vote counts, prods on players who went missing a long time ago, rules clarifications, or anything else regarding mod error. The mod will generally post in
bold dark red
- feel free to do so as well if you think the other players are stupid enough to fall for it. The mod will only edit players' posts to fix broken BBCode tags. The mod will talk in third person.

Modkills:
Quoting your role PM word for word will get you modkilled. Talking about the game outside the thread, except under circumstances expressly permitted by your role PM, will get you modkilled. Editing or deleting a post will get you modkilled. Cryptography that requires a computer will get you modkilled. If you're unsure, ask the mod. Modkills will end day only if the killed player is protown.

Once you're dead:
Ghosts don't speak, but they do incoherently shriek. When you are not alive, you may not talk; however, a "bah" post will be allowed under the provision that it does not contain any letters or numbers. Random symbols will get your point across just fine.

As the lengthy discussion reached its conclusion, the skies and Darox's mood simultaneously fell gray. And why wouldn't they, knowing how close they were to their ends? While Darox's impending death wracked the nerves of the eleven who bitterly discussed it, for the rest of the city of Innocence Falls, it was a spectacle. Everyone in town had come to watch and find out what method of execution they'd use this time, knowing that it would never fail to excite. As the Lord of Justice once said, "we call it capital punishment 'cause we make capital selling tickets."

With the crowd at the town center growing impatient, the arrival of Darox induced an excited roar - even those who didn't know who he was could tell he was found guilty from the dirty white shroud which all condemned criminals in the city are forced to wear to their death. As the guards shackled him, the executioner approached the podium and began his introduction. "This gentleman on the wall is Darox. And in just minutes, you will witness his termination! Ladies and gentlemen, it is said that the reaper towers over the guilty..." and with that, he drew a katana hidden behind the podium and stabbed Darox's chest, slashing downwards and left. As the blade continued to sink in, so did the gravity of his plight. Down the chest, abdomen, thigh, to the shin went the blade, until the executioner pulled out and paused to hear the cries of Darox for cessation and the crowd for repetition. The more popular request won out, as the slash was repeated three times more; twice moving to the right leg, once more to the left. By this point Darox's screams had become indistinguishable as any human language, yet the message of those screams could not possibly be any clearer. Unfortunately, the executioner disregarded the clarity as he slashed down Darox's anatomy, now in a zigzagging pattern, twice for each side. Darox's cries, loud as they were, could barely be heard over the crowd's approval for this torturous festival. The next three swipes cut through the pattern of vertical cutting as well as through the waist.

The blade was then put to Darox's neck, eliciting boos from the crowd, realizing that this signaled a merciful ending. Instead, it signaled a light cut that just barely drew blood. Stepping to the side, the executioner teased another beheading, this time not getting a response as the onlookers expected another joke cut - instead, he suddenly jammed the katana through both of Darox's knees. He writhed so violently that he appeared to be free from the shackles. Three minutes later, he abruptly stopped.

As the executioner walked off the stage, the forensic scientist walked on and removed Darox's shroud, revealing blood running down his body in the shape of a giant capital A. After a few minutes of observation, he revealed his findings.

"Right up until Darox's death, the blood in his system flowed at a heightened velocity typical of a person suffering from an unwarranted fate. The relative normalcy of the rate of flow through his nasolacrimal duct indicates he had no regrets, as a person with a wasted ability in this situation should have. It is found that Darox was a fair citizen of the city of Innocence Falls."

"This concludes tonight's show. Tickets for tomorrow night's show are already on sale, they'll cost one dollar more at the gate, so get'em now. Drive home safely, and good night!"

Eleven chairs, eleven citizens sitting down prepared to discuss the second lynch. Well, actually ten citizens sitting down prepared to discuss the second lynch, and one citizen sitting down riddled with bullet holes. Two things were quite apparent: the town's coroner fancied himself a prankster, and someone had it out for pacman281292.

After realizing that the surviving verbal combatants weren't very appreciative of what he passes off for humor, the coroner apologized and moved on to business. "Here's what I noticed about poor pacman. Even though his body has withered to an unsightly abomination, his eyes nevertheless remain pristine. This indicates that he had the talent of witnessing events. I'm sorry, you've lost a watcher." And with that, the coroner left.

Not half a minute later, three waiters entered the room, each carrying a tray of assorted breakfast items. The Lord of Justice began, "Even discussions of who deserves to die can remain civil enough to be discussed over a hot meal. That's why I've went to the trouble of... oh hell, there's
ten
of you? Stupid me! Stupid, stupid me! I'm sorry, I only ordered enough for nine. I could order another plate, but it'd be a lot easier if one of you died."

As if on cue, the coroner rushed back in the entrance, paused to gather his breath and then announced, "Oh yeah, I almost forgot! pacman281292 was in the mafia. Sorry, next time I'll try to remember to tell you if they were in the mafia or not."

And so this time, it was nureins's turn to fearfully count down the fleeting seconds of his life. He wished upon a star that the crowd from last night's affair wouldn't turn up and demand so unmerciful a death, but unfortunately for him, giant flaming gas balls don't care much for the plight of tiny sacks of meat millions of light-years away. The cruel encore would go on as planned.

Shackled to the stage just as Darox had been, nureins was similarly introduced by the executioner. "This gentleman on the wall is nureins. And in just minutes, you will witness his termination! Now normally, our victims die with a look of horror or sometimes disgust. But we thought for once, we'd let one die with a smile on his face..." Upon hearing a move towards compassion, the fans of cruelty were on the verge of rioting. Only one instance of violence occurred though, that being the executioner slyly pulling a dart from his pocket and throwing it directly into nureins's chin. He barely saw it coming, and good thing too, since his instinct would have been to open his mouth in shock, causing the dart to pierce his throat. The executioner produced a bag full of darts and placed them, one by one, into nureins's face. This direct approach was less gruesome, and therefore less popular, than the thrown dart, but not by a whole lot as you might imagine. Nureins wasn't doing any imagining, so much as bleeding.

The executioner eventually stepped aside to show off the smile he was planning on leaving on nureins's face - formed of the plastic fletching, the smile was lacking only the eyes. There was a short pause to give nureins a moment to realize this fact as well as the planned method of eye addition, but who would've guessed it, he wasn't able to see into the future with a dozen or so darts lodged in his face. Then he wasn't able to see period. The poke in the left eye caused him to faint, but the poke in the right eye woke him back up.

For a few seconds, anyways. Sure enough, nureins no longer being among the living. At least he was still among the smiling. The forensic scientist took a few moments to inspect the corpse, then came back with his findings.

"Nureins, as you can clearly see, was a two-faced man." One audience member slowly applauded this joke. "No, I'm being serious. Look at how shaky his blood is. It's consistent with someone who was responsible for the organization of his bank or crime family. And since we lynched the only bank CEO in town a week ago, the only reasonable conclusion is that he was the Mafia Godfather."

"Since school is out tomorrow, kid's tickets are on sale for a dollar each. Bring the whole family!"

Another morning, another blank canvas - or in this case, a blank death warrant. And yet somehow, the day's unlimited opportunities didn't excite the surviving suspects as they dreadfully approached the courthouse. The coroner was pacing outside, denying access inside until he'd built up the nerve to speak. After eternity or so, he finally began.

"Forgive me if I'm nervous, but I didn't get any sleep last night. I was awoken at one in the morning, and rushed out only to find a corpse beyond recognition. I spent the whole night trying to discover not only who but what he was. None of his few remaining features matched any of yours, and all of his systems are unlike anything I've ever seen. I called every accomplished pathologist in the world, frantically looking for clues leading to his job. Only one could help, as he was also a neurosurgeon and noted that the deceased's neural patterns were completely unpredictable. It took me hours to figure out what that meant, but finally I realized he must be a jester. I never figured out who it was though, so I'll just ask you to help me out here. Go on in, the corpse is sitting down again."

And sitting down again it was - dressed in full jester regalia.

"Oh jeez, I can't believe I missed that," the coroner sheepishly confessed as it finally hit him. Someone slowly and fearfully walked towards the fallen fool, peeling down the harlequin's mask at the slowest possible speed that could still reasonably be considered movement. Finally, the face was revealed to be... pacman281292?

"Gotcha!" exclaimed the coroner, giggling uncontrollably. "I'm just fuckin' with you, nobody actually died last night." As everyone checked to confirm that all nine of them were indeed there, the Lord of Justice sighed and buried his face in his palm. He then got up to make an announcement, face still in palm, "Look, I'll be honest. I already know who's guilty. In fact, I've known the whole time. I'm only putting you all through this because the graveyard industry is paying me to. And if I don't deliver more carcasses, they'll take mine. So to encourage you all to kill one another, I'll remind you that there's nine of you and only eight... uhhh.... only eight... just die already."


It is now Day 3. Nine alive means five to lynch.

Confused was the crowd of the third night as Darox was forced onto the stage. "Didn't he already die right in front of the entire town?" whispered one onlooker to another. "Well as I like to say, you can never kill someone too many times." came the reply. The executioner didn't know how to introduce Darox, so he didn't. Strange, he did a pretty good job of it two nights ago. Instead, he dropped the formalities and cut right to the chase. "How about we just wait for him to die?" The crowd laughed at this. "No, seriously. I'm plumb out of ideas." Realizing he was serious, the crowd laughed even harder.

Darox didn't laugh though. Some things are only funny when they happen to someone else, immurement happens to be one of them. And even when it does happen to someone else, it gets stale quickly. Not five minutes into the show, the crowd left en masse.

They came back, though. With baseball bats, no less. (If you run a sporting goods store, you should try leading an angry mob someday.) The executioner welcomed a speedier death, but perhaps he wouldn't have if he'd known the crowd hated him more than Darox. The executioner was hit so quickly, you'd wonder why the candy isn't pouring out. Except that you wouldn't know that it wasn't, since he was engulfed completely by the crowd. More swings of the bat hit a fellow citizen than did the executioner in the ongoing panic.

Luckily for the increasingly injured mob, a seven-year-old girl was overwhelmed by the chaos and decided to just hit the otherwise unnoticed Darox instead. That got everyone's attention, fast. The angry crowd got back in their seats, anticipating more. Even the executioner, knowing he wasn't long for the world, felt his heart so warmed by the young girl's cuteness that he declared her the new town executioner. And she got to work fast. The glass ceiling in the field of execution was shattered along with Darox's kneecaps, ribcage, and skull. Darox died. Again.

Examining Darox's corpse, the forensic scientist reached a quick conclusion. "This Darox is missing all his teeth. The telltale sign of the town's elderly hobo. Say, why are all these teeth strewn across the stage?" Frustrated, the Lord of Justice took the stage. "Zombie Darox was the final threat to the town. The trial is over, there will be no more deaths."

"Like hell there won't!" defiantly shouted a well-dressed hunchback. "I paid for at least seven corpses. You give me four?" "Technically, only three..." "I would've chosen my last words more carefully." The graveyard mogul emptied a handgun into the Lord's skull. The crowd jeered his orthodox killing method, but he wasn't phased. "I've already paid a hitman to move here and take out all your doctors. The Graveyard Mafia will rule this town!"

But that's another story, for another game.
