it was consistently happening in newbie games a few years ago
enough that it was greater than random
and I compiled some data and "outed" it
it was never a tell to rely upon
just another tool in the toolbox

Thinking saying hi at the beginning of a game is in any way alignment indicative is the dumbest thing I've heard on this website.

If that was what was being said, I would agree, but it isn't. As it happens, I'm also not convinced the actual 'tell' - which from what I can work out is giving a generic greeting to

everyone

in the game, as per the first line of 19 - has any value in actually helping sort the player to which it is intended to apply, but I did think it make sense in explaining the motivation of a theoretical town!TTTT's, since I

think that TTTT/loopdan actually believes that. I was hoping someone else might come in and do the same, because it would have been interesting to see if TTTT would switch their vote as a result, or else how they would handle that.

I couldn't tell you the current status of that 'meta', if you want to call it that, ItalianoVD, and I don't personally think it has much value. I'm sure there was a reason I thought it worth getting out in thread after TTTT said it was a tonal read instead, but I forget what that reason is now - it was something I noted when I read through and I remember getting the barest of townleans on TTTT, and thinking T02 looked a little scummy from the subsequent reactions, but quickly skimming through again I forget why I thought that. I'll read through properly later; and I may either remember what it was, or end up somewhere different.

To respond to 137, I don't think my answer will be as relevant as the others because I was scum in that game, so being an adversary with Take probably changed my view of them in that one, though their playstyle seems generally fine. Took them a bit to get to grips with the format but that's everyone. They seem quick to irritate which I'm not a huge fan of from a player perspective but from a game perspective it's probably NAI. In fact, I'd expect newbscum to be less quick to irritate and more focused on passing off an image of being cool, calm and collected. I know that's how I played my newbscum game.

Italiano's gameplay at the moment is scum+. Town should make an effort to be open and I don't see that. I also think it's easy to fake reads by acting mysterious.

Okay perfect thanks for that. Like I said, I’ve never actually used it myself, but I’ve seen it happen more times than I thought it should. Like I’m trying to tell Take, no one is using it as an end all be all read tool, but I think in this queue it is something you can’t just

You say he's been poking the bear, but it's worth noting that Italiano has really upped the posting and this push on Take since being put at E-2 in 92.

yes, it was a part of why I SRed CornPuff for his entrance post
but also the awkward tone (especially that last sentence)
I have no interest in debating the usefulness of this tell
or getting into a pissing match about my past results reading new players

- I am currently leaning town on Take, but I more didn't ask you for your case on him because I felt your reasoning has been made pretty transparent by your posting and the thread in general. Feel free to speak your mind if you have one though.

I find Italiano's behavior decidedly anti-town but, as he has correctly pointed out, we have plenty of time to come to a conclusion. Hence my unvote. I realize a quickhammer is probably pretty unlikely but I see no reason to keep my vote on him if I don't want him eliminated (atleast in the immediate future).

P-edit: Acknowledging that TTTT has agreed to move on from the greeting the game tell. I'll keep my comment on 148 in because I feel like it.
