We are all confuzzled, and all have different plans. SL hasn't confirmed that she will actually shoot herself. B_B keeps wanting Panzer to re-investigate SL, and to re-track me or Sens. I think as long as B_B and Panzer are both on different people, and on people they haven't been on before, we should be fine.

As soon as SL, B_B, and Panzer confirm that they know what to do tonight, I'll hammer.

The town square was anything but silent as yet another day quickly approached its close.

Inhabitants had risen to their feet, venomously shouting accusations at one another till their throats went horse, and their vocal cords could no longer support their fervor. The expansive skyway above was splotched with a myriad of vivid hues, all of which trickled downward to hide behind the high-rising evergreens fringing Merrin’s western flank. The innocence of sunset had always calmed the town’s inhabitants, but not this day. As the third day of debate and interrogation swiftly encroached upon the town square, the deliberators were forced to come to a decision. As

cast the final vote, tension descended. The choice had been made. Another would be leaving the group that sunset, and witnesses knew all to well that, like the past two “removals,” it would most likely not be pretty.

Much to their surprise, however,

, the day's condemned, sat in a state of statuesque calm. His eyes shimmered brightly as his fate was sealed, not so much as a subtle twitch to indicate an inner dread. No, Dourgrim knew there was no point to resist, for he was outnumbered, and would rather not be wasted on the cold stones like his predecessors. He would go with his pride and dignity. He would make things easy, so that Merrin did not have to suffer net another grizzly scene. A powerful hand grasped his shoulder firmly, but he did not feel the need to acknowledge

, and silently rose to his feet without being asked to do so. The time had come, and like the rest of the deliberators, he had made his choice. He had elected to die without a fight. He had decided upon the peaceful path.

prodded him forward gently. With each sluggish step he took, the many features of Merrin he had for so long taken for granted jumped out vividly. Every bead of mist that danced through the air stirred his spirit. The coiling snakes of smoke rising from nearby chimneys consoled his pangs of longing. The features of his friends' faces were magnified, each line of stress and pooling shadow of exhaustion discernible. These friends, who now served as his executioners, said nothing as they spirited him ever closer to the lone noose, which swayed back and forth hungrily. The fragrance of blooming flowers intoxicated his senses. The last beams of reflecting light permitted him to see the beauty of the town one last time.

With a sigh, he stepped gently onto a crate that had been placed beneath the noose. Off to the side, the maimed, impaled body of

hung limply. Hauntingly. But Dourgrim chose not to look upon the wasted corpses littering the beautiful scenery about him. Instead he looked into the eyes of

, who was at that very moment tightening the coiled rope's hold about his neck. The fibers itched fiercely, and a faint stench of rot wafted about Dourgrim's face. His eyes watered and his head spun, but he managed to keep his footing. Slowly, Xtoxm retreated, as all the group rushed forward, forming a circle about their target.

. Their faces were set with utter perturbation, as were all the others who stood waiting for a reply from Dourgrim. His serene nature in the wake of death shook them all to the core, and it showed with even the slightest of movements.

stepped forward, preparing to knock the crate out from underneath Dourgrim's feet.

"Yes,"

Dourgrim began as he closed his eyes,

"for Merrin."

That was all.

Springlullaby sent the crate skirting across the town square. Dourgrim dropped. The rope pulled taught. A loud, gruesome crack resonated off the tree and collected above the fountain's basin. The noose swayed back and forth, finally satiated. A cluster of small items had fallen free of Dougrim's coat, and now lay scattered beneath his lifeless form. His house key shimmered in the setting sun, next to which was his business identification. A check written to a local charity tumbled across the open expanse, before it was stopped by a drainage grate. The only crime Dourgrim had ever committed was caring about the town of Merrin, and that had been enough to end his life.
