Read most of this, had Kast pegged as scum for the longest time. Don't remember why, I think it was because he killed obvtown Gorrad. I would have came in but I helped review the setup so I couldn't.
Taking a temporary retirement from playing mafia games... damn you invitationals.
Coming in Summer 2010: Yu-Gi-Oh: The Abridged Mafia. The most nonsensical game of mafia you'll ever play.
Note: V/LA most weekends, sorry.

I knew Riceballtail was scum. I should have stuck with my idea that one of Gorrad/Kast had to be scum though.

GG. I'd like to know why my vote kept changing.

I think town played fairly well, but enough townies made enough mistakes/slips that we could easily blend in.

Scum didn't get any fake claims and didn't have item lists. Qwints was a traitor, which is how he probably knew the item list. He got NKed on N1 because MK didn't realize he was MK.

Role pms

Mario (x1)
Role pm wrote:Image
You are
Mario
, everyone’s favourite Italian plumber. Together with Luigi and a select group of Toads, you have invaded Bowser’s Castle to get rid of his army for good. You’re on the side of the Mushroom Kingdom, which is actually an informed minority in this game. However, the Koopas and other vile creatures don’t know that they are the larger group, so think twice before pretending to be anyone. You win when the only living players left are part of the Mushroom Kingdom.

Abilities: Mushrooms and Fireflowers work differently for you. After having used a Mushroom, you will be big until you are killed, and you will be able to jump on a player every night to try to kill them. After having used a Fireflower, you will be able to shoot a fireball on a player every night instead of jumping, though you can still choose to jump instead or do nothing instead. This also works until you are killed. You need to be big before you can use a Fireflower, and if you are killed after having used a Fireflower you will still be big because of the Mushroom. So you can have a 2-shot immunity. However, if you are lynched you will die like normal.
During the night, you can communicate with Luigi (___) and the Toads (___ and ___). You also know that Yoshi is in the game but you can not talk to him directly. This is the quicktopic where you can communicate during the night.
Item info
All
:
-10-coin block (8 coins): When used, you gain 10 coins.
-letter (1 coin): If you give this item to someone else, you can include a message that will be sent to him if the transaction is successful. This item does not take any space; you can hold an item besides this item, and you can give it to someone who is holding an item.
Mushroom Kingdom only
:
-Mushroom (5 coins): When used, you will be protected against a nightkill for 1 night. For Mario and Luigi: When used, you will be big and able to jump each of the following nights until you are hit.
-Fireflower (8 coins): Grants you a nightkill. For Mario and Luigi: When used, you will be able to shoot a fireball instead of jumping. You can also still choose to jump instead of using a fireball. This ability stays until you are hit.
-Star (15 coins): When used, everyone who targets you with a night action (not an item) will be killed, and you will survive the night no matter what happens.
-1-up shroom (13 coins): Use this on a player ready to drop in; he/she will join the game. Only two of these exist in the game.

Starting conditions: You start with 2 coins and a Mushroom, and your vote counts for 2.

Mod notes: Mario’s votecount is equal to the amount of Toads alive, and every night he receives 3 coins for every Toad alive. Mario detects Poison Shrooms: if someone gives him a poison shroom he will know that it is a poison shroom. Everything that causes Mario to die, except for lynching, will make him lose his firepower or jumping power first and lets him survive, but if there are several kills on him he can die at once even while he has fire power.

, the happy egg-throwing dinosaur. As usual, you aid Mario and Luigi in their quest. Together with them and some Toads you will try to invade Bowser’s Castle and defeat their army, even though you are a minority. The Army doesn’t know that they are a majority though, so be careful with whom you pretend to be. You win when the only living players left are part of the Mushroom Kingdom.

Abilities: You know that ___ is Mario and that ___ is Luigi, but you can’t talk to them outside the thread. You can’t buy or use any items, although you can receive them and give them away. To compensate this, you have two actions of which you can choose one each night.
During the night, once in the game, you can lay an egg to hatch a Baby Yoshi. If you do this, you choose a player from the ‘ready to jump in’-list and he/she will join the game. Baby Yoshi won’t have the powers you have and won’t know who you are; you are not allowed to communicate with Baby Yoshi.
If you don’t choose to lay an egg, you also have a bus drive power: you can target two players, and if one is targeted by an action or item the other will be targeted instead. You can’t target yourself.
Starting conditions: You start with 0 coins, and your vote counts for 1.

Mod notes: Yoshi can trade items and coins like other players. Kamek’s brainwash comes after Yoshi’s bus drive. Yoshi’s vote counts for 0 if Baby Yoshi is alive.

. You just hatched out of your egg, and you have no idea where you are. After looking around you see a darkness. Slowly the darkness turns into castle walls, a small amount of people, and lava. Then you remember the things you heard when you were in your egg: Mario and his crew are attacking Bowser’s Castle! You will do everything you can to help the Mushroom Kingdom, who is in fact a minority in this game. Bowser’s Army does not know this though, so be careful with whom you pretend to be. You win when the only living players left are part of the Mushroom Kingdom.

Abilities: You know that ___ is Yoshi, tough you can’t talk to him/her outside the thread. You also can’t buy or use any items, but receiving items and giving them away is possible.
Every night, you can target a player and try to eat their item: if they bought or were holding an item that night, it will be destroyed and if they tried to use it nothing will happen. This does not work on letters.
Starting conditions: You start with 0 coins, and your vote counts for 1.

Mod notes: Baby Yoshi can trade items and coins like other players

Is there anyone brave enough to lead this army to victory? You win when everyone not in Bowser’s Army is dead.

Abilities: You have no special abilities, and because you have no hands you also can’t buy or use any items, though you can receive them and give them away.
Starting conditions: You start with 1 coin, and your vote counts for 1.

Abilities: Once a night, you can choose a player to drop microgoombas on. This player’s vote will count for 1 less the next day, and if he/she tried to jump on another player the jump will fail.
You are immune to fire and to shells, and when someone jumps on you you become a normal Goomba.
Because you have no hands you can’t buy or use any items, though you can receive them and give them away.
Starting conditions: You start with 1 coin, and your vote counts for 1.

-Bob-omb (7 coins): The player that is holding this item at the end of the next night after this item is bought, or the player that gets this item after this item is traded 4 times (whichever comes first), will die. If the player that is holding this item dies because of something else, or if that player uses this item, he can choose someone who dies with him.

Starting conditions: You start with 4 coins, and your vote counts for 1.

Abilities: If anyone tries to kill you using fire, you will survive. If someone tries to kill you by jumping on you, you will die but you will come back to life 2 nights later. During the time you are dead, you will be considered dead in every way except for the voting: you can still vote, though only by PMing me, and your vote even counts for 2 while dead. This all only works if you die because somebody jumps on you.

Abilities: You are not really in the game yet. You stay in the ‘ready to jump in’-list until you really join the game. Most of the other people in this list don’t have a role pm yet, and will only get one as soon as they join the game, but you already know that you’re a Boo. You can’t talk in the thread, but you are allowed to vote during the day by PMing me. This vote will not be seen in the visible votecount, only in the real votecount. Furthermore, you do not count as a living player: that means you do not need to be killed by the other factions in order for them to win, and the amount of votes needed for a lynch is not affected by you. However, at any point during the game you can decide to drop in, then you will be considered alive and all of the above doesn’t count anymore. You are then a normal player.
On top of this, if anyone tries to kill you using fire, or shells, or jumping, you will survive. You are just a ghost, after all.

Mod notes: Boo can receive items and coins and buy/use items just like anyone else, even while not yet in the game. If someone tries to recruit Boo (1-up shroom, Yoshi, or Lakitu) then their action fails and they have to choose someone else right away.

Unfortunately it’s too dark too see who’s your enemy, so you’ll have to make your plans alone. You win when everyone not in Bowser’s Army is dead.

Abilities: As a powerful sorcerer, you have several spells at your disposal, which you can use during the night by paying coins. You can perform every spell no more than twice in the game, but you can perform as many spells in one night as you wish, provided you have enough coins. You can’t buy or use items though, but you can receive them and give them away. Your vote always counts for 2 in the real votecount, and this can’t be changed.
Spell info-Fire magic (4 coins): nightkill someone with fire
-Barrier (2 coins): protect someone for the night, against 1 nightkill
-Replicate (3 coins): protect yourself for the night, against multiple nightkills
-Create coins (3 coins): you get 8 coins at the start of the following night
-Create Koopa (10 coins): a new player joins the game as a Yellow Koopa, choose him from the ‘ready to jump in’-list
-Precognition (2 coins): find out someone’s rolename, alignment, items and coins
-Brainwash (3 coins): choose a player and change the target for any abilities/items that player has to any other player.

Starting conditions: You start with 6 coins, and your vote counts for 2.

At first you stayed in the background, but now the other people have spotted you and you have to join whatever they’re doing. Hopefully this doesn’t result in your death, as you are not part of any of the groups you see here. You win when you survive till the end of the game.

Abilities: To survive, you have several tools at your disposal. First of all, at the end of the day you will receive 2 coins times the amount of visible votes on your wagon. So make sure people vote you, but don’t end up getting lynched. Secondly, if anybody tries to kill you by jumping on you, you will survive. Thirdly, every night you can pay 10 coins to buy a propeller and turn into a Fly Guy for 1 night. While you are flying, you will be immune to fire and shells in addition to your immunity to jumping, and that makes it a whole lot easier to stay alive. And last, but not least, you know that the other people in the game do not need to kill you if they want to win the game, because your alignment changes to that of the winning team at the end of the game.
Starting conditions: You start with 2 coins, and your vote counts for 1.

Mod notes: Shy Guy can receive, use and trade items. The only item he can buy is the propeller. Shy Guy’s alignment is ‘independent’.

Items

All:
-10-coin block (8 coins): When used, you gain 10 coins.
-letter (1 coin): If you give this item to someone else, you can include a message that will be sent to him if the transaction is successful. This item does not take any space; you can hold an item besides this item, and you can give it to someone who is holding an item.
Mushroom Kingdom only:
-Mushroom (5 coins): When used, you will be protected against a nightkill for 1 night. For Mario and Luigi: When used, you will be big and able to jump each of the following nights until you are hit.
-1-up shroom (13 coins): Use this on a player ready to drop in; he/she will join the game. Only two of these exist. (mod note: Which role that player will get: see below)
Bowser’s Castle only:
-Green shell (6 coins): Grants you a nightkill.
-Red shell (8 coins): Grants you a nightkill that can’t be redirected. (mod note: yoshi’s bus drive and kamek’s brainwash have no effect on this)
-Poison Shroom (10 coins): If you give this item to someone else, they will think it’s a Mushroom, and when they use it they will be nightkilled.
DK crew only:
-Banana: doesn’t exist, there is no DK crew. Same for Barrel Cannon, and Motorcycle of Warioware.

Role a player should get when he comes into the game by a 1-up shroom:
If Mario bought the 1-up shroom, a Toad joins the game, if Luigi bought it a Shy Guy joins the game, and if a Toad bought it one of Bowser’s minions joins the game, depending on the day, with the order as in the draft above. For example, if Toad bought the 1-up shroom on Night 4, and uses it the same night or later, then a Red Koopa joins the game. (1: Goomba, 2: Paragoomba, 3: Green Koopa, 4: Red Koopa, etc.)

Coins/items

When a player is lynched, his coins are divided among everyone on the bandwagon, starting with the first voter, and this happens at the end of the following night. The visible votecount is used for this. Items are gone when someone is lynched. Example: A (5 votes): B, C, D, E, F.
A had 7 coins, so B gets 2 coins, C gets 2 coins, D and E and F get 1 coin.

When a player is nightkilled, the one who nightkilled him gets his coins. Example with bus drive: A kills B, while B and C are switched by Yoshi. Then A gets the coins of C.

When a player has more coins than the amount of living players at the beginning of the day, he automatically gives a coin to every player. Example: if player A has 15 coins at the beginning of the day while there are 7 players alive, then all the other 6 players get a coin, and player A ends up with 9 coins left (he won’t lose coins again for still having too many coins, until the next day).

Kast wrote:GG. I'd like to know why my vote kept changing.
Your vote was influenced by the amount of Toads alive. Just like RBT.
You started with 0 as your vote counts as 2 minus the amount of toads, which was two at that time. The first Toad died D1, so the next day your vote counted for 1. However, Looker broke the rules. Therefore, your vote went to -1 (See the night action part)
The next night, the last Toad was gone. Meaning that your vote would have counted for two. Yet, ZEEnon targeted you that night, changing it to -2.
After that, nothing changed anymore.

Also, for clarification, when me and Kevin started to take over the modding, somebody asked if the first Real VC was correct. Probably, because there was a vote on Empking that wasn't explained.
That was Boo's ability (Millar13)

Anyway, I hope you all had fun. It seemed an awesome game when it was in sign-ups. I can't remember why I didn't /in for it =/ And after having seen the set-up, I think it was.
Not much else to say as I have only seen the last day. But if there are questions, just ask, and one of Kevin and I will answer.

Ah, yes, I *was* a reviewer for this game, wasn't I? (Though I stopped paying attention to the setup after a while.)

Notes:
- Mario and Luigi's modified Fire Flower and Mushroom mechanics originally protected them against lynches as well as kills. This changed after I convinced Lawrencelot just how broken this was.
- Koopas originally gave up their shells to their killer (killing a red koopa would give a red shell, killing a green koopa would give a green shell). Looks like that was changed at some point after I stopped paying much attention to reviewing.
- Star originally cost somewhat less, IIRC (I reviewed the first game and convinced Gorrad it needed a huge cost).
- Bob-omb originally cost a mere 4 coins.
- Boo predates my involvement with the setup, but I certainly approved of the role!
User out of ambit.

well played to scum, I have to admit I was extremely meh about the ending due to the evidence there was multiple factions (I thought we'd already lost) which Kast successfully used to WIFOM us. I also may well not have voted AceMarksman had he not said he would go away for a week just when he was drawing suspicion then not even return at all (he probably should have been replaced at that point but I don' think anyone cared enough to request a replacement). Well done to Kast again.

And my thing with tajo probably wasted a lot of time, LoL, and both of Gorrad's investigations, so I claim a fair amount of responsibiliy for the town loss.

Feel free to PM me to be ready in case I need a replacement.

oh, about AM's immunities, I assumed he was fakeclaiming that part. The fact he was initially vague then only later clarified suggested to me he'd originally claimed the role then had to wait for a reply to the mod so that he could match his claim to what I knew about the role. That said I will look at the scum role PMs now, I was always curious about e.g. how some didn't have items and some did.

Ouch... Night two really hurt from a penalty I didn't even know we had. I was wondering how I'd died considering I had several immunities.
I'm such a good lover because I practice a lot on my own.

Well played scum! For some reason I couldn't believe Gorrad's role was real. And he shouldn't have killed me of course :-) (but I admit my play was erratic at best, still I wasn't really anti-town in my opinion).

Those penalties really hurt town in the end. Millar and Looker should have been modkilled instead IMHO.
Taking a temporary retirement from playing mafia games... damn you invitationals.
Coming in Summer 2010: Yu-Gi-Oh: The Abridged Mafia. The most nonsensical game of mafia you'll ever play.

Maybe if you tried actually playing to win, and not playing to lurk incessantly, people might value what you say.

Also, I totally thought ZEE was third party the entire game, but I wanted to peg him as MK for the sake of not looking like MK myself.

On another note, if we had actually been able to keep our toads, we could have probably killed enough town off by N5 to win. It's actually kinda scary what the coins would have been able to do for us.

I have to say I don't think my claim was that bad until the very end. To think I pulled Bubble Goomba out of my ass is amazing.

K7, thanks for lying to the town about your vote. I think it helped tremendously in making AceM's claim less believable.

Initially, I thought Gorrad had to be third party with ZEEnon pegged as an additional third party.

If MK recruited a player using a 1-UP Shroom, what would that player be? We were hesitant to use that as an option since we weren't sure that the player who joined would be on our team.

Millar really hurt the town, I was wondering why we were able to kill the green parakoopa by jumping but not the red one and also AceM claimed 1 shot immunity that the green parakoopa should have shared.

Millar also should have been paying attention to the game since he still had a vote. His lying up to his death was also pretty helpful for scum.
