Mini 889 - Shopping Frenzy (Over)
It is a month before Christmas. Soon the stores will open. Soon the shopping Frenzy will begin. People will be rushing to buy the gifts for their loved ones. But this year, there are some people that are willing to kill to get the gift they want. For the safety of everyone, these people must be removed, before they can cause too much damage.

- General
- The site-wide rules apply.
- This a game, so have fun, and do not intentionally ruin the fun for other players.
- Do not try to hide information within your posts by using encryption, invisible/white text or similar means. If you are unsure whether what you're trying to do is allowed or not, please PM me.
- If you're dead (which is the case in the precise moment I announce your death), refrain from posting at all.
- You may never quote anything you received as PM from me. You also may never quote anything from a quicktopic. This does not apply once the game ends.
- I am not a lawyer, so if you think the rules have holes, please let me know. If you exploit such a hole, expect to be punished.
- The site-wide rules apply.
- Voting
- Votes should be bolded, include the word "vote" and something that I can trace back to one of the players. (vote: nham) This may be the whole name or an abbreviation. Please make sure that I understand whom you mean to vote for. Otherwise, your vote won't count.
- If it looks like a vote to me, I will count it as one. If you are unsure whether what you're trying to do is allowed or not, please PM me.
- If at any time, a player has a majority of the votes, the day ends, and that player dies. Please refrain from posting in the thread from this point on.
- Unvotes are not necessary, but I'm sure the other players would appreciate them.
- If you want to unvote without voting someone else, use a bolded unvote.
- You may vote: No Lynch. If half of the players are voting No Lynch, the day will end without a death.
- Votes should be bolded, include the word "vote" and something that I can trace back to one of the players. (
- Deadlines
- All game days will be deadlined to three weeks.
- I may add up to one week to the deadline, if I feel amount and timing of replacements make it necessary.
- I may substract up to one week from the deadline, if I feel the overall activity level is lacking.
- I will, however, try to avoid either.
- At deadline a majority of votes castis needed to lynch.
- Nights will be deadlined to three days. I might prolong the deadline another two days if replacements make it necessary. Otherwise, unsubmitted night choices will be randomized.
- All game days will be deadlined to three weeks.
- Participation
- I expect each of you to post at least once every three days.
- I will prod you if you don't. This will be announced in thread by me and you will have to answer the prod by posting in thread.
- If prods are not answered or if I have to prod you repeatedly, I will replace you.
- I expect each of you to post at least once every three days.
- Information
- I will try to post a vote count near the top of every page or every 24 hours (if you produce more than one page per day).
- Additionally the first post will always contain the most current vote count and all other information you need.
- In the first post I will include links to the Rules, the Setup Preview, any Role-Claims, any Night Scenes, and the Setup Reveal as these items become available.
- In every vote count, the bolded person is the person that would be lynched at deadline (if any, see deadline rule above)

Active Abilities- Ability

Faction- Faction Name
List of Active Abilities (both for players and groups):- {Type} Investigate: Each night you can investigate another player to gain information depending on the type of investigation. Types are {Cop}, {Gunsmith}, {Motion}, {Role}, {Tracker}, {Watcher}
- Bodyguard: Each night you can protect another player. If the targeted player would die, instead they live and you die. You can block multiple attempts at your target's life.
- Hide: Each night you can hide in the house of another player. You will only die if they die.
- Kill: Each night you can choose to kill another player.
- Protect: Each night you can protect another player. You are only able to prevent a single kill attempt per night.
- Motivate: Each night you can enable a player to use one more ability the following night.
- Roleblock: Each night you can block another player. They will be unable to use their own active abilities.
- {N}-Hit: You can only successfully use your ability N times. N is always a positive integer.
- {N}-Shot: You can only attempt to use your ability N times. N is always a positive integer.
- {Limit} Night: This ability can only be used on nights contained in the limit. Limits are {odd}, {even}, {1st}, {1st, 2nd}, ...
- Amnesiac: You forget your own results, so you have to name another player who should receive your results.
- Backup: Once someone with the same ability dies, you can use yours.
- Collaboration: The ability is only available as long as at least two group members are alive.
- Compulsive: You must use this ability each night.
- Final Chance: This ability can be used in addition to the members personal ability, if the member is the last remaining of his group.
- Final Chance+: This ability can be used in addition to the members personal ability, if the member is the last remaining of his group. This final member may self-target with the ability.
- Free: This ability does not count against the one action a night rule.
- Inventor: You cannot use your ability yourself, but each night you can give another player a 1-Shot of your ability for use on any subsequent night.
- Night 0: This ability can also be used Night 0. If this modifier is not present, the ability cannot be used on Night 0.
- No Back-to-Back: This ability cannot be used on the same target twice in a row.
- Mutually Exclusive: This ability cannot be used on the same target it has been used on at any point in the game.
- Sanity Issues: This ability may not return the results that have been specified.
- Soloist: This ability can only be used by the final member of the group.
- Weak: You die when you target scum.
- {Type} Investigation Modifier {Result}: If a {Type} investigate ability is used on you, {Result} will be returned to the player that investigated you, instead of the value they would normally receive.
- Bulletproof Vest: You can survive one attempt at your life.
- Confirm {Players}: This player is confirmed to be in the same faction as you are. Players are {$Group} (means all members of the group), {Player1}, {Player1, Player2}, ...
- Day Talk: You may discuss the game outside of the thread during the day using onlythe specified communication method, in addition to the game thread.
- Known Identity: The mentioned group knows your identity.
- Macho: Protect abilities do not prevent any kill attempts made on you. Other abilities proceed as normal even if tied to a protect ability (Jailkeeper will roleblock but not protect).

You know, it was probably a BAD decision for me to extend the deadline to search for a replacement. Especially considering that I never got one.
On another note, the slow pace this game has been taking is freaking annoying. Tomorrow, if I see this low activity, I'm cutting your deadline in half.

The doors to the stores open, and people rush in. Well, not so much rush as leisurely stroll. Eventually, all the shoppers realize that just walking into the store just wont work, so they start running. During the rush, Josh Lyman gets knocked to the floor. All of the eager shoppers trample all over him to get their gifts. And you all ignore his screams. "Please stop! You're killing me! Oh god, why would someone wear GOLF CLEATS to go shopping?" Eventually, you all see his bleeding body lying on the ground. You all investigate his almost dead body with a morbid curiosity. With his last breath he says, "We will get you all for this. You will all pay!" You realize that in your rush to get started, you could have given rise to an evil gang of murderers bent on revenge. Except they would have been killing you anyways, so no you didn't give rise to this group. Now that you all feel better about this, you all go your separate ways in the store. It is time to see what the night brings.

Albert B. Rampage replaces el simo effective immediately
It is late at night, and most people have gone home. But there are a few people that are still active at night. Are they up to no good? Or are they helping the shopping customers out. Well, at least one of them is helping people. He is a doctor. A very manly doctor. He will help others, but he will accept no help himself. Somewhat strange, as one would expect such a good person to understand the value of good help, but all people have contradictions.
Late at night, he returns to his car after a long day of Christmas shopping. But there is another person out at night as well. And this person is not a helper. This person is a shadowy figure hoping to remain hidden. But there are times when he must act. There are times when he must kill. And this is one of those times. The shadowy figure slowly approaches the good doctor. As he is right next to the doctor, he whispers to the doctor, "Now, for my sake, you must die!" The doctor spins around to defend himself, but it is too late. By the time he is facing the evil figure, he has already been mortally wounded.
Early next morning, while people arrive to continue their shopping, someone noticed the doctor's body. The person that saw the body shouts for assistance. But no assistance can be made, because the doctor is has been dead for a long time. So the people search the body instead. They quickly realize that the body is that of Wulfy. And they also realize that he was a doctor. A doctor that would refuse any help offered to him. And now he is dead.

All of the shoppers gather together, trying to find out who could be responsible for the death last night. Who are the evildoers in this store? It could be anybody. Suspicion fals to various people, but eventualy, the choice is made. It must be Chinaman! You gather together and execute this scumbag... Except, he wasn't a scumbag. He was a just a normal guy going shopping. And now he is dead. This revelation sobers the mood in the room. People leave the store for the day, with sadness in their heart and dark thoughts of the past in their minds. Well, most people do. A small number of people just have dark thoughts of the future. Specifically, thoughts of what they will do tonight. Tomorrow will likely bring even more sadness.

semioldguy replaces Torqez effective immediately
After the sad events of the day, most shoppers have gone home and are resting. However, PaltryExcuse had disappeared during the day. It appears that someone has found him though. This person slowly begins to stalk PaltryExcuse and sees him to be an easy victim. So the stalker moves in behind his new victim. The stalker's approach is so stealthy (or maybe PaltryExcuse is just not paying much attention) that the victim is murdered before he can even notice that there is anything wrong.
As morning dawns, PaltryExcuse's dead body is found lying in the parking lot. It seems there has been yet another death. Everyone is becoming more paranoid as people realize that anyone could be next. Slowly, his body is searched for clues for why this might have happened. But, there are no clues; he was just a regular person, minding his own business. Will the senseless violence be stopped? Or will it continue until only a few remain?

The shoppers were all concerned. One or more among them had to have been responsible for these deaths at night. Discussion quickly turned to Albert B. Rampage who had been acting strangely at the end of the previous day. Was his strange activity because he was eager to kill again? Or was is because he was bored with the waiting? The shoppers decided that there was one way to know for sure. So they surrounded him and knocked him to the ground. Because none among them had revealed any weapons, the only way they had to kill this man was to beat him to death. So, they proceeded to do so. His response was strange. He asked if someone else could take the beating in his place. But in the end, the group decided that nobody could do so, and continued to beat him and kick him.
After his bloodied and bruised body had stopped twitching, and even the more sadistic members of the group had become bored with kicking his dead body, the group slowly converged to investigate. What they found was... nothing. Nothing out of the ordinary. Nothing that made this man suspicious. Just a normal individual, with no extraordinary features. Just as he had claimed to be. But nobody had believed him. His strangeness had seemed to be too strange. Everyone leaves the store for the night. Some question whether they are at fault for his death. Others reason to themselves that it was his behavior that got him killed - that it was his own fault and not the fault of any members of this group. And at least one person was feeling quite happy at the slowly reducing numbers of this group.

The number of people going shopping has been decreasing each and every day. Most of the shoppers are now living in perpetual fear for their lives. One person, named semioldguy just arrived yesterday, replacing another shopper that had gone missing. Unfortunately for him, arriving in the store turns out not to have been in his best interests. Someone saw him there, and decided to kill him tonight.
Now, this person decides to execute this plan, and semioldguy. The only comfort that can be had about all of this is that semioldguy never even knows that the bullet is coming. He is dead before he can react. His body drops to the ground, and his killer runs away from the scene of the crime, knowing that one more victim has been killed, and he is one step closer to seeing his enemies disappear.
Later during the night, CallMeLiam is returning from some task that he had performed. He seems to be satisfied with himself over the success of his task. Unfortunately for him, events are about to take a turn that is very much not to his benefit. CallMeLiam's great night is about to be ruined. By a murder. It is too bad. He was doing so well. But now, someone has decided to kill him.
CallMeLiam sees someone coming at him, and turns around to run away. Unfortunately, he cannot run fast enough. His assailant catches up to him, and starts to attack him. CallMeLiam starts making threats, but his attacker does not stop. Then he starts begging for his life, but his attacker still does not stop. Eventually, he goes silent, and his eyes are unblinkingly staring into the night. Finally, his killer stops. And smiles. And slowly walks away.
After this busy night, morning arrives. And the shoppers see the result of the carnage that occurred last night. There are two dead bodies tonight. What does this mean? Are there people out there capable of giving help to the normal folk? Or are there more enemies than have been suspected?
Whatever the case may be, the bodies have to be searched for clues. When searching semioldguy's body, it is discovered that he was just another regular person innocently going about his business. Just like all of the people that have been dying since that very first night. Why are all of the good people in this store dying? It has been so long since an enemy has been killed. Or maybe not.

But more is found on CallMeLiam. Apparently, he had the ability to stop people from doing anything during the night. A powerful enemy has been eliminated! Finally, some good news among all of this chaos.

There are only 5 people left here. Everyone notices the tension among this small group. Everyone reveals all of the information that they have, so that they can determine the best course of action. Someone has to be killed today, but who? Eventually, the people fall into two camps, those that want to kill Debonair and those that want to kill don. And the group that wishes to see don dead wins out. He tries to avoid this, but to no avail. The group attacks him and forces him down, where you slowly strangle him.
After his body stops twitching, you examine it to see if you made the right choice. Among his possessions, you find many knives, and even a machete. This guy had a lot of weapons. Many more than the one weapon he had claimed. It seems that the right choice had been made. You killed a villain. And after discussing among each other, you realize that none of you are bad people. All of the threats have been defeated! You are finally free!

Comments on the setup:
This setup originated from me reading a Mafia Discussion thread in which someone said that a game with two doctors could not be balanced. I decided that I wanted to try it myself, because I had this neat idea. And it fit perfectly well with TDC's modular role style, which I wanted to try out using. I made a few changes to the modular abilities to make them fit with my idea better. But some of those changes were a mistake. For instance, I thought that adding redundancy with the investigative roles (the effects made clear to both the investigator and the scum) would make the game clearer to everyone. Unfortunately, adding redundancy also increased the chance for me to make an error. I added in the gunsmith possibility after creating the role PMs. Unfortunately, I realized that the lack of the gunsmith modifier in the sample PMs might key people into the fact that there was no gunsmith in the game. I should have left it there, but I didn't. Apologies.
I decided to go with a 2 scum and 1 SK setup, because with the 2 docs, I wanted more killing, and 3 scum 1 SK or 2/2 could be at LYLO on day 2, which I did not want. The last addition was the Motion Detector. One of the reviewers stated that this setup was too similar to 10-2 mountainous, and suggested that I add an investigative role. I did not want an investigative role that was too powerful with 2 docs around, so I added the weakest investigative role I could.
Comments on the play:
The first 2 days were a pain to watch. Activity was absolutely crap. The scumteam losing a member day 1 kinda screwed them badly, but Liam recovered well. And that lack of activity did help him. I think don_johnson's SK No kill strategy was interesting, if suboptimal. Night 3 was hilarious. First I saw the SK kill come in, and thought goodbye Liam. Then I saw muh protect him and I thought that was pretty funny. Then Liam chose his roleblock. I laughed my ass off. Too bad Liam. God job town on the final lynch. I am glad you chose this for his play and not for the whole gunsmith modifier thing. I would have hated to see him lose for a mod error on my part.-

Yeah, after I started the game, I read an MD thread in which someone said there should not be two scumgroups in a Mini. If there's an SK, a 2 player scumteam screws the scum and a 3 player scumteam screws the town. To fix it, a 3 player scumteam and an SK, both of which have limited kills, could be used. There are a few options available. But of course, all of this is MD stuff. And my next game will be a Large Normal, so I'm not really going to think about any of this yet.Albert B.
