I'm not sure 'if the king does not act, his men won't' philosophy applies to this game.

phpBB question:
This chess mod isn't going to transfer to the updated forum. How long will you guys
realistically
need to wrap this game up?

I'm pondering Qe4. I'm likely to vote for it soon.
I replaced into Chess Mafia for 6 months, and all I got was a win and this lousy sig.

IH has been very non-cooperative lately. Voting for odd moves with very little explanation.

I'm debating between Qe4 and Qe5. Both have merits.

Mr. Black, what was the result of your conversation with Mr. Flay? How much time do we have left?

We probably have less than two weeks before the forum changeover. Mr. Black said that you probably have (at least) 6-12 weeks of gameplay left. I've been looking for offsite options to keep the game going, and http://www.chess.com/analysis-board-editor.html looks pretty solid. It allows me to paste in the PGN notation from the first post and doesn't try to let a computer play or anything stupid. It doesn't save the game state between loadings, but we can work around that with PGN.

So long as you don't need the board for anything but looking at, we can certainly keep this game going after the forum upgrade. I'm open to other ideas for sites to 'host' your game if you know of any that meet the neutral criteria listed above (feel free to PM me rather than clutter your game thread).

I will say that 6-12 weeks of gameplay strikes me as an underestimate. Unless a horrible blunder happens soon, 20 weeks sounds like a more reasonable lower bound (assuming 20 moves and a week per move, both of which seem like reasonable assumptions.)

Whatever happens, I want the game to continue. It' been going on for too long for it to be stopped by an outside influence .__.
Seriously. Read your role PM before playing.
I am sorry if you have to prod me, I have absolutely no concept of time.

At this point, I say, screw the 6-12 weeks. Let's keep this going forever. We can stretch this out for the lifetime of MS, if we wanted to, so let's go for it.
One time, back in 'nam, Sudo was set upon by an entire squadron of charlies. He challenged them all to a game of Pictionary, which he won resoundingly. The charlies were forced to not only surrender the skirmish, but also their world-famous chili recipe, which Sudo sold to Texas for a hefty profit. Sudo is a master of diplomacy.

I actually have some ideas for how to make this game run much more smoothly (and be a better combination of chess and mafia) that I've been thinking of running on another site I play mafia on. I wouldn't run it again with the current rule set.

Anyhow, I much prefer Qe5.

I think Qe4 looks a little better, but they probably won't be too different in the long term. (In particular, I don't think we can force a gain of material based on the advantages that Qe4 has.)

That site looks like it will work. It's really only the move list that matters.

I am in no way trying to stop or abort the game. I can not state with confidence, however, that the current chess.php engine will be available under the new forum, so I want to make sure you all have options available.

I'm aware that "6-12 weeks" was probably an underestimate; the important part
for me
was the "definitely more than 2 weeks" part.

What about Qd7? Not ready to vote, but so far I'm liking it better than Qe4 or Qe5.

Thok:
Can you try to not give Black move advice? Obviously you should point out problems if there's need of persuading us to vote differently, but don't just gratuitously suggest the best response for Black. I'm not sure how much long-term analytic capability they have.

I think Qd7 is better than Qe5, for what it's worth.

I agree with you, but I had already pointed out the strength of that move yesterday. That was the time to yell at me. (Actually the time to yell was a few moves earlier, as there's one move I truly regret mentioning.) But your concern is the reason I haven't really said that much about the responses to Qe4.

Qh5+

Also, Qd7 Kf7, then a big fat nothing. So let's not do that.

As far as "not helping black".. we've gone through this earlier in the game (so I guess most current players have probably missed the argument) but the gist is that since this is a game of complete information, if we make the best move, it doesn't matter what black does. And we can't make the best move if people try to silence the discussion under the pretense of helping black.

I think I'm ready to
move: Qd7

Thok:
(Yeah, I figured. I wasn't being passive-aggressive; it was intended as genuinely constructive.)

I'm not seeing any advantages to Qe4 and one big disadvantage- we wouldn't be playing Ke4 any time soon. Is there something clever I'm missing with Qe4? (y/n)

veerus:
Uh, there's something after Qd7 Kf7. Moreover, there's certainly more there than after Qe5 Kf7 Qh5+. Which is either a 3-move repetition draw, or else there's something that the white queen can do something on h5 that it can't do on d7. Which I don't see at all.
