No I mean 'lynch an idiot'
Ah, okay. That's why I asked.
I ran into this problem in my first game here. In a sense, it really depends on the situation of whether its the best lynch for the day or if there's someone posibly acting scummier. If you have to do this sort of thing, then I agree that it can only really be done on the first day.
As for 'lynch all lurkers', it also depends on the situation, but I'd rather wait for a replacement before jumping to do anything.
Lynch all lurkers is a fail policy in my eyes... People don't always get to post every 5 minutes etc and are not always online. I post as often as I can but am not always about the site. I too prefer to wait for people to be replaced if it comes to that because a new person coming in can offer up a fresh prepective on things and might catch something missed by others.
I would not support a lynch on a VI... simply because he/she also has a vote that can help the town. lynching a 'Idiot' is a safe clause for scum to easily hop on knowing they will glide safely by into the night with the attention on the VI.
Did you really just do this sir???
God not only did you just epicly sheep, but what am I at L-1 now? or is it L-2?
my vote count shows only 3 votes for you, overreaction much?
How is this a scumtell?
It's easy to label someone's behavior (e.g. "overreaction") without really explicitly calling it scummy. It's just sphagetti flinging and it's quite scummy.
The distance between insanity and genius is measured only by success.

New reads: shotty and CKD are town, joystick is scum
UNVOTE: shotty VOTE: joystick
I thought the vote was my opinion... Giving my reasons right then (that I know Shotty better than JS) would have been a mistake as it would have changed how Shotty reacted to the vote. If he knew I was doing it to see how he would react my vote would have been pointless.

In the games I have read through on this site, people don't seem to be a fan of lynching VTs on day one, I saw one game where a guy was pushing it and everyone called him scum
so I learned it's best to keep my personal beleifs to myself.
I learned to play on another site where day 1 if we bw a vt, wr lynch and move on
over herei see people let VTs live and a new bw is formed, it seems to happen more often so people here don't follow that theory hence I'm in the minority
hmmm not too sure on that JS...VT claims often end up being lynched... can you link us to some games you played on this other site? I have played off-site too for many years see it completly the opposite of what you are saying both here and offsite.
Why are you a fan of quick lynches? surely it does not give the town much info to go on going into day 2? quick lynches only serve to benefit scum in most cases. Do you disagree?
Also, why do you support the lynch of claimed VTs? just out of curiousity?

Most scum in my experience wont claim VT and will end up claiming a PR to draw out the real Power Role to help their scum buddies.

1. site I play is a site you would have to create an account and than get invited into a special mafia forum
2. game I saw is ongoing, not sure if I am allowed to link it
3. vt claim day 1 is safer than outing a PR, plus it was how I was taught.
4. long day 1 is sort of a pet peeve of mine, blame my ADD I guess, also I tend to think mafia would avoid a quick lynch
5. on this site I don't think I have lynched a mafia member yet, I have been lynched as mafia without the benefit of claiming but I have seen town claim PRs multiple times (cough ANDREW cough)
Hey, sorry I haven't posted yet, been busy at work.
I'm relatively new to mafia games; I replaced out of my first game because I went on an unexpected holiday, and now I'm playing through my second newbie game (tbh, i'm not even sure if I'm qualified to play an open game, given that I've never even finished a newbie game). That being said, I've read through some games from start to finish (which takes quite some time believe me), and reckon I've got all the key concepts down. I definitely wouldn't say I'm a complete newb, but please bear with me if I don't catch on, or have to ask a few questions.
Policy Lynch - Whilst it doesn't make sense to lynch a non-scummy player in most circumstances, we just don't know what crazy stuff might happen, so to say I'm 100% against them would be unfair. It'd have to be a pretty obscure circumstance for me to agree with one though.
Lynch all lurkers - A definite no. People can lurk for all sorts of reasons. One thing to bear in mind: if somebody stops posting because they've become disinterested with the game, I think its more likely that they're VT, as a power role or scum player has a more exciting job to play, so might be more inclined to stick with it.
RVS - I'm not a huge fan of this whole business. One reason its used is to get discussion going, but I feel discussion can come about in better ways, e.g. a RQS, or (as stupid as it sounds) just talk in general. In my first game a number of players said they were against it, so we avoided a RVS completely and still got things going fine. Another reason some people like an RVS is because players can be put under pressure from a BW, and you can get a read from how they react, but does a BW from a RVS really put any pressure on someone? Even if somebody was at L-1 from random votes, it'd be pretty crazy if they got hammered, so there's not really anything in a RVS that tests a player's nerve.
---
One thing I don't really understand is this whole "Lynch all claimed vanilla townies" thing that Joystick is going on about. What benefits are there in lynching a town player? Is it to stop everybody claiming VT?
if you take a player to L-1 cause he is scummy and he claims VT, you thought he was guilty enough to vote him it is a 50/50 chance he is lying.
if you unvote, and run up another person than you run the risk of outing a power role, and if you get another VT you decide again what to do.
each time you run up a VT and don't lynch them, mafia can narrow down who is a power role giving them the edge, each VT claim gives them more clues to who PR is
