Mini 1073: Autumn Mafia - Game Over!

The city of Kelvor had always been a quiet, peaceful city, with no inherent problems. Citizens went about their day to day lives normally, just enjoying their surroundings. Nothing seemed out of the ordinary or abnormal.

That was until this past September rolled around. Bodies started turning up left and right. Whiskey soured the breath of the local politicians. All signs pointed to organized crime becoming the apparent problem. Now, as October rolls into full swing, the city is almost in complete ruins. Twelve of you remain, but you know that not all of you are honest in your intentions. It is up to you to figure out who among you are out to take over the town. When you find them, you'll deal with them like any sensible law-abiding citizen - you'll hang them high in the streets.

Poor planning on my part has led to me scheduling deadline when I'll be at work. If the event comes that I must lock the thread after I leave for work (10 PM EDT - 2 hours prior to deadline), I will lock the thread mobile but likely not have a flip prepared. Night 1's countdown timer will be slightly extended by a few hours. Once the thread is locked, I will accept night action PMs.

As nightfall drew closer and closer, you all grew hesitant about the napping man. He was a short man, with olive skin, and he spoke with a funny accent when he did talk. For a while five or six of you had been glancing nervously at him, wondering if he was sleeping the day away so that he would be wide awake for the night. More and more, as time passed, you got shifty. Things were antsy, wondering what would happen if he were to be left alive.

Finally, one of you stood up. All of you had been tired of waiting and waiting for something to happen, and someone had to take action. He slowly sauntered behind the man and cracked his knuckles. With a sleeping target like this, hauling him over to a tree and tying a noose wasn't really necessary. With a few swift movements, he snapped the short man's neck. After a few seconds to make sure the break was clean, you all began scrounging around his body, looking for a clue of why he was sleeping so much. Unfortunately, the answer was not all that you thought. It was likely he was sleeping purposefully, but only after a long night of working the case files of the past murders.

After a night of sleep, the town awoke the next day to a cool autumn morning, with a fresh dew on the ground. The citizens began preparing for the long day ahead, hoping for better results than the previous day.

However, walking into the town square showed that this day was going to be as horrific as the last. Two bodies littered the town square, one with a bullet clean between the eyes, the other peppered with weapon fire. You searched both of the bodies frantically, hoping that one of the mobsters has been killed in the crossfire - one had the keys to the local prison, the other nothing. No such luck would be had.

Things weren't looking up for the town at all.

Again, the town found themselves all circled around one muchacho, screaming at him about what he'd done, asking why. The questions, the insinuations and the insults flew hard and loud, and the atmosphere became very, very heated; the tension so high, a dull knife could cut it.

The town once again came to a consensus of who should have to die. He was a smallish man, but he was intelligent. You all knew he spent much of his days playing chess, but you knew nothing of his nightlife. Five of you decided that it was time to find out. In a much more civilized fashion than the first day, someone began to fashion a noose by which to hang him, and after a brief scuffle, brought him over to the old oak tree in the park. After waiting for him to come to, everyone gathered round.

One voice asked, "Any last words, scumbag?"

He began to shout expletives until the support beneath him was knocked away and his body fell, the rope snapping taut mere inches before his feet fully touched the ground. It was just long enough that he could graze the grass as he struggled against the asphyxiation. After it was sure he was dead, one brave citizen boldly stepped forward and reached into the man's pockets, only to reveal what everyone had hoped for - a small semi-automatic handgun, complete with no serial number and a silencer. This was one of the problematic mafiosos that the town had set to flush out.

Just as people began to celebrate, a massive rainstorm rolled into town, and thunderclouds turned the skies dark and gray. A quick flash of lightning set one of the homes ablaze, causing a mass panic. By the time everyone gathered themselves and rushed over, it was too late. The man inside had been sleeping and stood no chance, he was fried almost instantaneously.

Everyone went to bed that night with an awkward sense of joy - one mobster had been killed, but how many more remained? And how many more of you would disappear into the night?

After a tense night, the town awoke the next morning. While the results the day before were good, they hoped to avoid the tragedy that came along with them today. Everyone sauntered out of their beds and prepared for another long day.

As everyone came to the town square, a head count was taken. After a few checks, it was noticed that another citizen had gone missing. Everyone split apart to go look for any trace of the man. One unlucky duo found him, speared through a fence post, a bullet between his eyes for good measure. When everyone reconvened at the town square, they told of the tragedy.

It looked to be a grim start to another day.

Noon came and went, and the town was fatigued. The emotional and mental roller-coaster of the past days had left them exhausted, and they were in quite rough shape because of it. No one was saying much other than a few bits here and there, keeping the discussion somewhat flowing.

Mod scene coming in a few hours

The town grew tired of waiting, becoming more impatient by the minute. Things were getting tense, though the woman under suspicion didn't seem moved.

"She's a cold-hearted killer, that's why she's so calm!" one shouted.

"Let's get rid of her, make more progress. Maybe we can finally put an end to this." another softly spoke.

Slowly, four of the remaining six townsfolk gathered around her, a hatred in their eyes unlike any other. They wanted their town clean, and they wanted it to happen now.

A swift blow to the side of the head knocked her unconscious, while they fashioned up a new noose. They tied it up next to the body they hung yesterday, where they had triumphed over one scumbag, preparing to celebrate again.

Just before the chair was kicked out, one of the men looked at her, glaring.

"I hope they show no mercy on your soul," he said.

Swiftly, the ground was pulled out from underneath her feet. Unlike yesterday, there was no struggle, just a quick snap as the rope pulled taut and her body fell limp.

Another woman cautiously stepped up to the body, and began rummaging through her pockets. All she found was a wallet and a shopping list. Just another simple citizen, caught in the madness that went on.

"W-w-what does this mean? What do we-"

A gunshot rang out, cutting her off midsentence, one man's body falling to the ground, an unloaded pistol clattering out of his pocket. Another shot rang out, and another man fell to the dirt, empty pockets and all.

The woman's horror turned to glee as she and the gunman turned on the last standing citizen.

"How... how could you?" he stammered.

"Simple. Like this!" she shouted as she lunged at him with a sharpened shard of glass.

She stabbed him once, piercing his aorta and stood over him as he struggled.

She turned to her partner, and smiled sickly.

"We're done here. It's time to move on."

Mod Notes

- Town was severely hurt when both PRs were essentially outted on D1. While I don't think the setup design relied on PRs for town success, the two biggest that I included were killed before they could be used to any benefit and

- I can't honestly say if Fernando ever actually picked up his prod prior to his lynch, unfortunately, because I BCCed him and Shattered Viewpoint on that.

- I told all of my reviewers I was using BaM. For some reason, to me that meant I had posted in the queue that I was using BaM. I apologize for not giving the heads up.

- The town in itself was very apathetic, which was it's downfall after D1. By D3, it seemed as if interest had completely died off, which is usually the opposite of what I see with short deadlines.

- I'm surprised that the town lynched on D2. It's been discussed in the past, especially when it brings D3 to MYLO/LYLO, to actually no lynch and just suffer the modkill on that day.

- Me=Weird and Equinox both played really well. I was seriously impressed by their play here, avoiding any real suspicion on them at all.

As for what you did wrong, I don't think anything, really. You replaced into a slot that hadn't been clearly pro-town, and I think people had just gained a suspicion of you. When a suspicion dies, it's often a relief.

Also, Oso, I'd like you to weigh in on posting your claim that you had drafted up. I didn't send it to CK3, only because I wasn't sure what the ideas surrounding that were. Not sure if other mods allow it/whatnot.

My question to the scumteam - why not kill ICEninja? I dunno, I felt he was more of a threat than even Zinive as the JK, but that was just me.

I'll continue to mod BaM, for the record.

Also, notably about BaM - it doesn't forbid replacements completely. Every replacement I made I believe was perfectly in line with the ruleset - it's up to my discretion. I won't modkill someone like Oso or Netlava, who ask for my replacement, because they can't make the commitment. I have modded an F11 game off-site, using a standard newbie ruleset. I wanted to pull my hair out. Making sure everyone was posting every 72 hours, making sure prods were in line. BaM is a ruleset I've enjoyed playing under and something that works well for me. I do realize it is probably too rigid for mini normals, as they have a much more loose player base and the games aren't intentionally swingy like themes can be, but it matters not, because I'm not going to be modding another mini normal. Ever. Lol.

I'm starting to architect my next game, I think it'll be a large normal. I have... ideas.

Also, I'm going to knock heads with one of the BaM mods who started with it about adding FeRnAnDo along with PerArdua possibly to the blacklist. While I can't 100% prove that he picked up his prod or not, the fact is he hardcore flaked and only didn't get modkilled because he got lynched first.
