Sorcerers in the Magic Order Academy II
Mod:
Snow_Bunny
Back-up Mod:
Empking
It has been roughly a year since the savage intrusion on the grounds of the Academy which ended with the death of most of the freshmen. Some have tried to forget those days; some others now live in paranoia fearing another strike from the shadows. Peace had returned to the campus...
Until that day.
A blast sounded early in the morning instead of the usual bells from the clock tower. More followed, and soon chaos reigned. Bodies fell like rain, all cold, all lifeless. A group of survivors, leaded by the headmaster himself, took cover inside the Conference room. They soon realized they had felt just in their trap...
Everyone looked at each other in surprise, unable to discern each other's identity.
“This must be a trick from the savages,” one of them said.
“Most likely,” another followed. “I feel them close,” he added.
“Me too,” another seconded.
“So, they must be here with us. This is our chance, then.”
“Our chance?” one asked confused. “What do you mean?”
“Our chance to catch them,” he turned back to the door. He tried to open it, with no luck. “And so they think as well. Well, then let it be!”
“Speak clearly!” one commanded.
“We will look for the killers among us, during the day. During nights, we will rest.”
“Do you think that will work out?”
“It's the way the freshman did it last time. I bet if they hadn't been such fools, they would have prevailed.”
“Then, let's do it.”
“Until they die... if they don't kill us first.” And with that words, the struggle for life started.

Rules
General Rules
1- I am the mod, and my word is final. If you have a problem with it or you think I have something wrong, you are free to discuss it with. I am but a judge, not a god.
2- Have fun. Really, this is a game and you should enjoy it.
3- Play to win.
4- I don't like personal attacks, so try to keep your tone and insults low.
5- Do not discuss this game outside the thread, unless your role says otherwise.
6-
Red
is my pretty colour. Do not use it.
7- If you can't dedicate the proper time for the game, please do not in for it.
8- Do not edit or delete your posts.
9- I can include a new rule at any moment I want.
Ingame Rules
-Voting:
You may vote for another player using vote:player. You may unvote using unvote. Unvoting is necessary to move your vote from one player to another. You can also choose to vote for a no-lynch, using vote:no lynch.
-Lynching:
When a player has the majority of votes that player will be lynched. Further changes in votes will not affect this result. A lynched player will be killed regardless of its current HP (see below.) For a no-lynch, only half of the possible votes are needed. When a lynch is reached, you may still post until I post the scene and lock the thread.
-HP:
All players have Hit Points (HP.) They denote the overall health of the players. When a player's HP reaches 0, it dies. Lynching a player also kills him. HP is not publicity revealed, but players can see the health status of other players (Healthy, bruised, bleeding, almost dying.)
-Damage and Kills:
If a player is killed as the result of different damaging abilities targeting him, all players that dealt damage that night to the dead player are treated as the murderers of that player. However, if a player is killed as the result of an instant death attack, then the player casting the killing spell is treated as the murderer, regardless other damaging spells (kill has priority in the resolution order; see below.)
-Items:
Players can have items. When a player dies, its items are left unattended on the floor. An unattended item can be grabbed by any player, by posting in thread "grab: item name" (the first player to post grabs it). A player can only pick on item on the floor per real day of the game (think of it as an ability that recharges after 24 hours). Items can be passive, meaning their abilities will always be active; or be active, meaning the player must choose to activate its ability in order to function. This takes the place of the ability slot for the night. Items other than weapons can be used during day as well. A player can choose to leave an item unattended without using its ability slot, or even during the day, by PM'ing me its choice.
-Deadlines:
Days will have a strict deadline of three weeks, subject to change only during certain circumstances (replacements, high activity, low activity, among others). After only 9 or less players remain, the deadline will be changed to two weeks. At deadline, if no player have a majority, no lynch will occur. Nights will have a deadline of 72 hours.
-Quoting:
You may not quote any communication out of this topic. This includes role pms, questions to me, QT links, among others. Failure to do so will result in a modkill.
-Modkills:
If you break any rule, you will be, at my discretion, modkilled. Modkilled means that you will lose the game regardless of the result of your faction. A modkill may or not end the day, at my discretion, trying to punish the faction of the modkill.
-Spells and abilities:
Spells, as well as most abilities, can only be used during nights. There may be a few exceptions, but unless I state it in your role pm, all abilities are night-only. Items, except for weapons, can be used once per day, though.
-Activity:
I expect a post from each player each 72 hours. Failure to do so will result in a prod. Failure to respond to the prod will result in replacement or modkill (at my discretion, taking into account the length of the game). If you're going to be away for more than 48 hours, post in this topic the VLA warning. I do not check the VLA topic.
-Death:
Once you are dead you are dead. I allow a single bah post, containing no information, but please at least try to make it funny. However, don't lose sight of the thread. Something good may happen to you!
-Scum claim:
It is completely forbidden to claim scum/scum partners, whether you are scum or not.
-Roles and factions:
There is at least one vanilla townie in the setup, as well as at least one mafia faction. All factions have a winnable condition. If a win condition is achieved, and it doesn't directly interfere with the win condition of another faction, the game will keep on. For example, if the win condition of a player is to get certain player lynched, should that player achieve that condition (and no other win condition is achieved at the same time), the game can keep on. There is at least one town faction and one scum faction. Town faction is called Wizards, while scum faction is called Sorcerers. Other factions may exist, and they may have wizards, sorcerers, or other classes.
-Endgame:
It is considered endgame when the town or scum faction have achieved their win condition.
-Ability resolution:
The order of resolution of abilities is (take note that not necessarily all abilities described here exist in the game): hide, roleblock*, mass-roleblock, redirect*, protect, kill, damage, investigate, recruit, affect other, revive, miscellaneous abilities. Roleblock and redirect may switch place depending on who's the one being blocked (the redirect takes place unless the roleblocker blocks the redirector.) Conflicting abilities of the same type will happen simultaneously.
-Restrictions and Warnings:
If by some chance you get a restriction of some sort, and you fail to follow it, I will give you a warning. One warning is ok. Two warning is tempting your luck. Three warnings results in the lost of your night action for the following night.
-Block, protect and targeting:
When a player has an effect that says "can't be targeted", all abilities on the target will fail and the players targeting him will know their abilities failed, and the ability will be used. When a player has an effect that says "is protected from..." or "is immune to", all abilities on the target (of the specified type, if any) will fail, but the players targeting him won't know their ability failed and the ability is expended. When a player has an ability blocked or when an ability is prevented, it will know that its ability failed and the ability won't be used.
-Claiming:
Though you can paraphrase your role pm and make a claim, it is not advised to do so. Just a friendly advise from your nice mod.
-Roles vs Rules:
If there is a conflict between a role and a rule, the roles triumphs.
Vanilla Town "Adept" Role PM:
There is at least one vanilla townie in the game, with the following role PM:
Feel free to ask me any question you might have.

-The end of the first day-
It hadn't been long since they gathered in the locked room to discuss when a consensus was reached. It may have been the panic, it may have been just an insight from a higher power, or it may have just been plain hatred against gandalf. As he yelled arguments back and forth, he was pinned down and tied with ropes. Then, they hanged him down from the ceiling. A rather unorthodox way of killing someone, but they couldn't trust magic for this task. As he died, he left out a chilly last breath, and the spell was broken. His face returned to normal, and all could see that he was just a wizard.

Night is coming to an end, or so the clocks say. However, there's no trail of the sun in the sky. The survivors start to raise from their beds, wondering what has happened with the sun. Some suggest to wait a little longer. But as time passes by, there's no sign of the sun. As it was dark, no one could see clearly the status of the other ones, and they feared that blood had been spilled during the night.
"This must be work of those accursed savages!" one of them said.
"Most likely," another one answered. "Hm, this is troublesome."
"How come?" a third one asked.
"Well, our job is already hard under the light. If we are going to do it under this deep darkness, we'd better just commit suicide. I suggest we wait, until the sun is out."
"I agree," one seconded the idea. "The savages have the advantage in this darkness, we better not give them more."
"Then, let's wait," they decided.
"Hey!" one of them yelled from afar. "Come here, quickly!"
"What is this?" one asked when they all gathered around a circle. One of the created a simple light spell, and all the survivors could see a body lying on the floor. It had several burns all over his body, as if a strong electric discharge had crossed through him. They looked at his face, but no one was able to recognize him.
"No doubt," one of them said. "he is one of those savages. Well deserved he had it. May he serve as an example for the others."
They put the corpse away, and returned to their resting.

The sun finally appeared and with it, bad news. The joy of having finding a savage faded when they found a little note on the floor, that read:
"We have taken your precious headmaster. You are next."
The note had no signer, nor any noticeable trait. The survivors looked around, and they saw no sign of two of them. They searched the place, and they found one of the missing persons... torn to pieces by what it seemed to be the work of a mighty weapon. His face was still in one piece, so he was easily identified.
"I know him," one of them said.
"Me too. He was supposed to be a cleric the campus hired to deal with some diseases here." he explained.
"Oh, yes, I remember about him!" another added.
"It's shameful that such peaceful person had found its end in this horrible way."
"We can't do anything about him. May he find eternal peace at the side of his goddess."
They all kept a minute of silence, and keep looking for the other missing person. As time went by, they all realized that the note was true. One of them was missing to not be found, possibly ever.
"It seems our headmaster has fallen." Many couldn't resist the urge of crying.
"We have to remain strong. It is what he would have wanted. We must find those savages and eliminate them, for him."
"Y-you're right."
But it seems not everything was bad news. As they moved the torn body of Nachomamma next to the one of gandalf, they noticed he started moving. Some cried in fear, others hurried to help gandalf.
"I'm back," he said. "I don't know how, but I'm back."
"Ah, it seems luck hasn't abandoned us."
"Yes! We can still win this one, people! When we finish the savages, we will bring the headmaster back to life as well"
"Yes!"
With renowned hopes, they all started their daily routine: finding the savages among them.

It wasn't long before the sun was setting. The survivors didn't want to waste their time, and full of energy they pushed for the one who had made the last vote the past day. The grabbed him without giving him the chance of replying, and they lynched him. As he died the spell on him faded, and they could all see his real face. But no one could identify him, as he wasn't part of the campus body. He was a savage.

The day went as the first time. First, the survivors were confused, but it was not long before they got back in the track. After all, they had already seen Katsuki's true identity. Although his fate was sealed, he tried to fight against it, using his best tricks to convince the rest of them. But they all failed, and as the sun set, he was hanged.

Another day arrives. The survivors gather again, but this time there are fewer of them. They search the place, and found two bodies. From the clothes, they could tell them apart, and with the spell now over, they could identified them. One was a professor, the other one was a stranger. They searched the dead body of the stranger, and found clues that crushed their hearts even more: the sorcerers weren't the only threat. They kept looking for a while, as someone else was missing, but they couldn't find any trail of him. No body, no signs whatsoever.
They gave up the search and moved the dead bodies near the others, and found, to their surprise, that one of the bodies was missing.
What a strange night it had been.
Filled with fear, and with their hopes crushed, they began another day of discussion.

The day was long, but it finally reached an end. They grabbed him, despite his claims, and lynched him. As he died, the spell on him faded, and everyone could see his true identity. At first, no one recognized it at first, until someone said:
"Hey, isn't that the abroad student?
"Yes, he is!" someone else confirmed.
"Oh, I remember him. He had a funny accent."
With that, they all realized that they had lost another one of their team.

The sun rises yet again, and the survivors gather once more. They count themselves to see how bad the night was, and soon they realize their numbers are wrong.
"8... 9... and 10," one pronounced as he counted the survivors.
"Wait, why are there 10 of us? Weren't we 9 yesterday?"
"Well, it's because you have me back," one of them answered. There he was, with a grin on his face, waving at his partners. "It seems I'm not for the afterlife yet."
"Isn't that wonderful news!?" one cried. "We will definitively win this one!"
"Come on people! There are still savages to burn!"

As the sun broke in, the survivors got out of their beds, ready for another day, happy that they, somehow, had survived for so long. They gathered, and one of them is missing. Another death. But, no one thought about that. For the first time in seven days, they could recognize each other. Only familiar faces were to be seen. It was over. And they had won. Some cried tears of happiness, others danced on their spots. There was no body to be seen, and thus, they could not know who the last savage was. But everyone knew who it was. After all, most of their last actions targeted him.
"At last, we can rest," one of them said.
"We may have won this one, but we must not let our guards down again."
"I propose, then, that we strike first this time around."
"That seems reasonable."
"We can't let them wander freely around the world threatening innocents as they wish."
"You are right. We must end this, once for all. But for now, let's bury our dead allies, and rest. We all need it."
And without saying anything else, they all left the room that had been their prison for the past seven days.
9. CryMeARiver,
a sorcerer
, was removed from the game on Night 6.
The wizards (Beefster, Katy, galdalf5166, SnakePlissken, Riceballtail, chesskid3, vezokpiraka, malthusis, Tasky) defeat the savages and win the game!
The sorcerers (rewq455, Katsuki, CryMeARiver) lose the game!
The mageslayers (CoolDoG, ThAdmiral), get 6 points at endgame and lose the game!
The clerics (Nachomamma8, Bunnylover) get 12 points at endgame and lose the game! So close!
The spellthief (Albert B. Rampage) gets 3 points at endgame and loses the game!
I hope you have all enjoyed the game. Posting roles soon.

The roles
This was town powerhouse. It had few HP to balance it a bit.
An interesting support role. This' the reason why some of you who got a scroll never knew what it did.
FYI, there is a prestige class named Elemental Savant. This was kind of a weak vig.
Another weak vig, but with extra HP and with the ability to deal damage with weapons.
Last game didn't have a necromancer, so I wanted to add one to this one. The zombies were a nice touch, and were the reason vezok died. Clone would have been a bit overpowered, but with so many spells that prevented resurrection that wasn't really an issue.
A real tank. Kind of a bulletproof townie, but this one bites.
A JOAT that shouldn't ever be out of any game of mine.
Last game's VT had more fluff.
A protown third party. I really liked the idea someone gave me in the last game, so I decided to put them in my game.
It's actually quite a shame the clerics lost, as they did good. Guess it was just bad luck.
Lots of hp, non-spell abilities, and immunity to investigations. Nice features. The mageslayers weren't a scum group, they were a pair of SK whose main mission was to get the archmage (which they did, amazingly.) It's a shame CooLDoG didn't talk more with ThAdmiral.
As you can see, this time there wasn't any anticlaiming measure. I just guessed you were all going to be scared to do that. Hey, it worked! Btw, ThAdmiral had the worst luck in this game. Almost all actions he submitted ended up failing for some reason. I feel bad for him. He could have won this game easily if it wasn't for his bad luck.
The support sorcerer. It's a shame chesskid took him out early on. I bet if he had lived more, things would have been different.
The beast of the sorcerers. Lots of damaging abilities, the most powerful ones based on weapons.
The sorcerer leader. His abilities were something. He wasn't as strong as the archmage, but he still packed quite a punch. And yes, he was a Godfather or sorts with that item.
I thought this role had it easy. But well, maybe I was wrong. ABR didn't ever use the abilities he stole, and well, that may had helped his demise.
Here are some extra things you should know:
--Professor Council Rituals--
(Rituals are one-shot. Rituals can only be cast as long as there is 3 professors left in the council.)
Mass Item Creation: A random number of random items will be created over night.
Field of Empowered Magic: All magic attacks will deal 2 extra point of damage that night.
Field of Weakened Magic: All magic attacks will deal 2 less point of damage (to a minimum of 0 damage) that night.
False Day: The next day, upon reaching a lynch, the lynched player won't die, but it will flip normally, as though as it had been lynched. After this flip, the votecount will reset and the day will continue as normally.
Greater Antimagic Field: All spells (including rituals) will be blocked for the night.
Greater Sanctuary: All damage will be prevented for the night.
Cut from the Source: Target player will lose all of his spells. He is no longer treated as an spellcaster.
Banishment from Grounds: Target player is removed from the game.
Commune with the Great Spirit: You may ask one question about the setup, and it will be answered (some questions may be left unanswered. If that's the case, you can ask a different question.)
Karma: All spells cast that night will change their targets to the caster.
Contingent Resurrection: Target a player. That player will return to the game the same moment after it is killed. This means, if it's lynched, it will return to the game at the end of the day (it won't flip, and the lynch will end the day); if it's killed during the night, it return to the game that same night (if he used any ability that would have otherwise be prevented by his death, the ability is prevented.)
Mass Spell Resistance: Target three players. Those players become immune to spells for the night.
--Sorcerer Rituals--
A player must forgo the use of one of its abilities in order to perform the ritual. Rituals are one-shot.
Commune with the Great Spirit: You may ask one question about the setup, and it will be answered (some questions may be left unanswered. If that's the case, you can ask a different question.)
Item Creation: A random item will be given to one of the sorcerers.
Mass Mind Blank: All investigative results that night will fail.
Summon Behemoth: You summon a mighty Behemoth, which will attack a random non-sorcerer player. It deals 20 points of weapon damage.
Soul Scry: Target a player. You know what action that player performed, what result it got (if any), who it targeted, and any other information the player got that night.
Eclipse: The next day phase is skipped. It only works before Day 4.
Animus Blizzard: You summon a blizzard that deals 3 cold damage to all players that perform actions during the night. Up to two players killed by this spell are turned into zombies.
Demise Unseen: Target player is killed, but it won't show up as dead the next day (no flip and players won't know it is dead; it will appear as if he had leave the game) At the end of the next day, the player will flip.
Momento Mori: You kill target player, and you can still use one of your abilities for the night.
Ruin: You deal 12 points of damage to target player. If the player is killed by this spell, it can't be revived.
Summon Ghost Swarm: You summon a swarm of vengeful ghosts. All players receive 2 damage. This damage can't be prevented.
Soul Drain: You kill target player, you recover 4 HP.
Possible Items -
When items are on the floor, they are just items. As soon as someone picks them up, they know what the item is and what it does.
-Potion of Cure Light Wounds (One-shot): You recover 1 HP.
-Potion of Cure Moderate Wounds (One-shot): You recover 3 HP.
-Potion of Cure Serious Wounds (One-shot): You recover 5 HP.
-Potion of Stoneskin (One-shot): You ignore the next 5 points of damage.
-Potion of Restoration (One-shot): You recover one use of one of your abilities, at your choice.
-Wand of Dispel Magic (Three-shot): You dispel on magic effect on target player.
-Energy Sword [weapon](Unlimited): You deal 2 weapon damage plus 1 energy damage. (element can be either fire, cold, electricity, force or acid)
-Cloak of Invisibility: You can't be tracked/watched.
-Ring of Deathward (passive): You are immune to spells that kill instantaneously.
-Ring of Regeneration (passive): You recover 1 HP at each phase change.
-Circlet of Nondetection (passive): You are immune to spells that investigate.

-Ring of Negative Life (passive): Whenever you are target of an attack that drains HP out of you, the effect of that attack is reversed.
-Cursed Ring (passive): You lose 1 HP at the beginning of each day. You can't leave this item unattended. Once you grab it you won't be able to lose it until you die.
-Earrings of Warning (passive): You are warned if you were targeted during the night.
Extra hidden notes:
-Actions from summoned creatures don't count as spells. This means, a summoned creature may attack a player who has protection from spells. The summoning spell and the summoned creature's actions can still be blocked, though.
-Zombies: A zombie has 1 HP, and deals 1 weapon damage per attack. As long as the zombie lives, that player slot can't be affected (for example, the player can't be revived or be targeted by abilities that target dead players). A zombie under the command of a player will follow that player's orders until it's given a new one. A zombie without a master will attack a random player each night. A zombie remains alive until it is destroyed.
-Clerics recover spells in this way:
Condition - Spell Recovered Healer - Spell Recovered Supporter
Night 4 and 5 or less points, and both clerics alive Resurrection Resurrection
Night 3 and more than 6 points Cure Serious Wounds Resist Energy
Night 1 or 2 and a cleric has died Mass Cure Light Wounds Spell Immunity
Night 6 Cure Serious Wounds Resist Energy
Night 4 and 6 or less points, and only one cleric alive Raise Dead* Raise Dead*
If a spell hasn't been used and it's granted to be recovered, the player just gains a new use of it.
* Raise Dead is a spell that either cleric will obtain if the conditions are met.
Raise Dead (One-shot): You return target dead player to the game. That player starts with half of its maximum HP, and loses one use of one of its unused spells, selected at random. Spells of that player already used will remain used.
I wanted to post the actions, but the file got erased from my pc (stupid Windows 7). I may compile the file again from the pms, but don't count on that.
So, what do you think of the game? Good? Bad? Unbalanced? Awesome ?
Again, thanks for playing.

Not all abilities were supposed to help town. Just like in the previous game. And that's not bastard.
SnakePlissken wrote:So can I ask, was it my hammer followed by my dispel magic overnighton CMAR that won the game? I did warn you attacking me was a bad thing to do.
TBH, everyone and their mom targeted CMAR during the night.

I... I don't remember. I think it was Katsuki. Oh, yes, he was the one who killed you, IIRC.

I had no idea how this happened, as ABR was in the middle of the list. I remember copying his role in the message, but I have no idea why it wasn't sent.
I'm really sorry for that.
