Dearest trophy, can we split 'arguing about ReaperCharlie's horrible setup and his even worse attempts to defend it' out of the thread somehow?
You mean Lost Boys? That was a truly horrible experience for the town players, and I think Mr. Flay admitted he'd have done things a little differently if he ran something like that again. (Although, town would have had a shot had they not BLOODY WELL LYNCHED ME DAY ONE and I'd been around long enough to point out that MoS' unlynchable claim basically made it obvious he was the CR, and that we couldn't trust the Frog Brothers. /stillbitter)ReaperCharlie wrote: You have obviously never played a Mr. Flay game, if you think cults are BS.
OK, what roles existed to help the town defeat/warn the town about the cult then? The setup was NOT absurdly unbalanced, as you say; swingy != unbalanced.
I think his point is, town won whatever crap you come out with, because they lynched scum every single day and it is impossible for a town to do better than that. He's obviously not claiming that you as mod declared a town win.You have obviously NOT read the game, as you claim; as town did NOT win.
If a town played at the hundredth percentile, they won, because to permit any other result is basically to state that it was impossible for town to win if certain things out of their control went against them. Oh wait.
Next time, think before you create a ridiculously bastard setup. Oh, and gain at least the slightest modicum of f***ing humility. No-one thinks less of you because you made a mistake in writing a setup: your inability to admit there was anything wrong with said setup, however, is causing a lot of us to think you're a douche. As long as you won't accept your mistake, you will be incapable of learning from it, and that makes me incredibly wary about ever playing in an RC mod game.Next time, think before you hit the Submit button.-

Nth Mastin for his article on cop gameplay.
I was the town cop in that game which spurred the MD discussion, and I would consider Mastin's original post (and subsequent MD post) the equivalent of a quantum leap forward from the game theory I (and I suspect many other cops, especially new-ish ones) had been using earlier in the game (which was, basically, investigate a hard-to-read player, but with no thought as to LyLo competence, or even durability to make it to LyLo to begin with). Even though some more experienced players might say, "well, yeah," I've looked at enough games with sub-optimal cop play to see that Mastin's contribution was a needed one.On hiatus from any new mafia commitments.
Jesus loves you. But that doesn't mean you're town.

More speaking about Succession, from personal experience. Which was a complete success. The Fonz wrote:

Flips, duh. There was a Black Lantern flip on Day 3. That's when everyone shoulda been "OH SH*T", but they weren't.The Fonz wrote:

They misplayed it. The way they played after that was NOT how you play a cult game. Plain and simple.
Also, if the cops were slightly more competent, they would have gleaned from the cop result PM some extra info (had they been paying attention). There were plenty of hints.
PLUS OH YEAH DID I MENTION IT WAS AGAME?BLACKEST NIGHT
It obviously wasn't impossible for town to do better than that. Town's night choices blew (except for Andrius). Town's day play sucked (except for Andrius). The whole point of including informational roles that can 'confirm' other people as town (i.e. a bunch of roles that only work on townies) makes it plainly obvious thatThe Fonz wrote:

Yellow had a decent chance of winning. Orange very nearly won (and only didn't because of Andrius). Red had a terrible chance of winning because of the players, but would have had at least as good a chance as Yellow (if not a better one) otherwise. Town had upwards of TEN power roles in a 25 player game, including a MASON RECRUITER to combat the cult.
UNFORTUNATELY THE MASON RECRUITER GOT HIMSELF KILLED NIGHT 1 WHICH DIDN'T HELP MUCH.
As I say, terrible night action play by the town got them killed. The setup could just as easily have ended in a town win. I am not convinced that it would have been easy for Red and Yellow to win... those were probably the weak points of the setup. But Orange was fine.
Anyone who says otherwise is crying Boo Hoo Sauce and is pissed cause they lost. You don't see the winners crying about it. Because they know how f*cking hard they worked to win. Case in point, MagnaofIllusion.
Again: Boo friggin hoo. Cry me a river. Never played in a bastard setup before? The Fonz wrote:

What's the point of being a bastard if youpre-warnthe players you're being a bastard?
...
And I could care less if you ever play another game of mine. That was a dana-mod game, I was just the co-mod. I am defending the setup because I think it's legitimately misunderstood, but in all honesty, town's day play was ridiculously bad in most cases. They lynched scum 5 days out of 6 (seems insanely good, but there were 10/25 scum to start and that number went up each day... suddenly it doesn't seem so impressive).
Also, town did not come together and lynch who they were supposed to. The Black Lantern Cult Leader. Which led to their complete and utter demise. Sucks for them but they had a sh*tload of PRs. The Cop PMs specifically said "you have inspected X and you find that he/she is not RED, ORANGE, or YELLOW scum". Specifically implying that those are not the ONLY scum in the game!

Grr Arg is from the TV 'credit' part of Josh Whedon series when his "Mutant Enemy" board is shown. The cut-out shambles across the screen as someone says, in zombie-like fashion, "Grrr, Argg".
Anway back to actual Nomination business-
Add my unneeded additional supportfor Cyclic Mafia as "Best New Mechanic".
Also nominatekunkstar7(in the guise of his Mod account of The Eruci) forSmooth Operator. The game had a massive amount of cycling powers and complex interactions. Kunkstar handled them flawlessly and was very timely with vote-counts and mod action to boot."I am a leaf on the wind ... watch how I soar!"
Pretty much Geriatric game restricted at this point ... unless there are players I REALLY want to play with.-
