Years of hunting. Devouring. Choosing who would die, when, and how this death would befall each of them.
Decades of making the choice. The choice they could not make for themselves, but needed to be made nonetheless.
Centuries of carnage. Countless bodies annihilated, ripped limb from limb, as part of the old pact which had now run its course.
Millenia of tireless servitude. An existence dark and grim; impenetrably lonely, borne of necessity, and as thankless as could possibly be.
Such was the wretched existence of the creature known as the Evil Angel. Having lived for thousands of years as an offshoot of some twisted game of chance, it fed on the weak, crushed the poor, oppressed the powerful with fear, and then destroyed them as well when they least expected it. The body count was endless, spanning back to near the dawn of time. The chains had tightly bound; there was no escape from this heavenly assignment. The task of clearing the way for what was new was relentless, and must always be done by someone. By some... thing. And thus had existence passed for the past aeons of time. Destruction and torment following even more devastation and anguish. The same thing, night after night. Ravaging house after house, body after body, rendering soulless all.
But the book had been opened, and now nothing, not even the chains of old could stay the judgement that had been reaped.
Fire from the sky rained down upon the loathsome creature, swallowing it in blazing luminance. The sick undeniable cry of the Evil Angel could again be heard, muted by the roar of heavenly flame, and accompanied this time by the crackling of searing flesh. Thrashing and twisting, wrenching this way and that, it endlessly attempted to extricate itself from the inescapable inferno being visited upon it from above.
But it was no use. Judgement had already been decided, and was now being exactingly meted—in full approximation, to the very letter of the law.
"And the books were opened, and flames fell like rain upon the abomination, cleansing it from the earth. And mercy visited it not."
